I'm only a trolley Motorman, but this is pure power right here! On these kinds of grades, I could run flat out at about 15 mile an hour with no slippage. The trolley I run makes a grade look easy, but NKP 765 would put on a show. Our steepest grades are 1% and 2.5%.
I actually have gone up to the tunnel here. Plus up to Moscow. My old home was about a few hundred feet from the siding there. I still have the video of 26 going onto the turntable after my trip behind it.
I'm sure some of the dislikes are from the fact that this was more audio-focused than video, but I'd rather see this no other way, the stack talk is some of the best I've heard, if they want to just see 765 then just fast forward till she's in frame, no need to dislike it
It's not fabulous when you consider it happened because some damn fool greased the tracks. We may never see 765 out here again because of this. I don't blame them if they never come back.

I have to admire the skill of the crew and how they manage wheel slip. They don't have computer managed wheel slip control systems, like they have on diesels. There is something about 765 that makes it my favorite steam engine.
At its height during the 1920's, Nay Aug saw about 60 train moves a day, half of them (of course!) upgrade and about ten of these were solid coal drags, which usually rated three helpers in addition to the road power. And beyond that, a junction with a branch to Winton, a few miles to the east, was protected by an interlocking plant (tower), which endured until about 1943, if my sources are correct. What a show that must have been!
And last year I had a cross-country running meet at the park right above the tracks and there was absolutely nothing for the 4 hours I was there. Sometimes change sucks
My guess is that FWRHS either wanted or needed to do some upgrading of 765's own auxiliary tender so that it could run on the mainline with her, and I think that work was initiated in 2016 after the operating season ended that year and was finished up in 2017.
