performance of the 7th Sonata in 1961 , Carnegie Hall, VHorowitz playing the 9th in 19655 and a bit later the 10th Sonata.

Petrenko is actually not only conducting the orchestra but also the audience. Since orchestra musicians always say that - in happy moments - they become part of this huge collective wave, Petrenko might be seen as a modern high priest who accumulates, shapes and directs the energies neccessary to achieve this state of collective dissolution - where everything becomes one.

Petrenko can win over the masses completely unpretentiously, because he does not inspire through lazy magic, but through a shared understanding and desire to experience the most beautiful thing there is - music. He is curious and excited about what he does. And it shows.
@@chrisczajasager If you´d attended Tchaikovksy 6 conducted by him, you would understand. Sometimes, as you may know, there is applause after the 3rd movement of the Pathetique - and some conductors like it, some don´t. Petronko doesn´t - and he made that with his gesture very clear. Everyone in the audience got it, no one applauded. And this was important, clapping would have destroyed the moment, the silence between the movements was part of the interpretation (Petrenko seems very aware of that, e.g. Beethoven 7 after the 1st movement).
If a conductor does not "conduct the audience" it can destroy very intense moments, but you will only experience this in the concert hall. Take the end of some symphonies, like Bruckner 9, Mahler 2 oder Schosta 4 - these seconds between the end of the music and the beginning of the applause can be very, very intensese. And the conductor can keep these moments if he wants to and the audience gets it. Thielemann, Brahms Requiem... nearly one minute silence after the last note. And that silence was part of the performance. Thielemann made it clear with his posture. It would have destroyed the moment if the audience did not get that or respected it. There are a lot of things more going on than what one can hear in the concert hall, for me at last and the people who have an understanding for these moments.
The composer could never imagine that in this present time, people would appreciate this masterpiece so much!!! Scriabin is a master composer indeed! Ahead of his time, where genius usually are!!!!

I'm so glad he was picked over conductors like Thielemann. The Berlin Phil has very much become the "modern" orchestra and I know this man will continue to push this amazing orchestra in the right direction.

ArtShouldBeBeautiful well either way I am very happy with their choice. There are many dull and uninspiring conductors they could have gone with. Thankfully they didn't.
Wow, the way the entire orchestra immediately goes from FF to nothing at 1:34 is something else. Not only does every musician have to stop playing, but they have to dampen their instruments (if possible) to stop the reverberation that causes the sound. Amazing musicianship.

Going from that ff or p or whatever quiet dynamic it was would have been impressive had it not been for the lengthy fermata.
@@AlexEwan1 If there was no pause, there wouldn't be a significant or jarring silence, which is the whole point of going from ff to nothing. Imagine if the orchestra simply "got over" the silence 2 seconds after it had occurred.
The dynamic possibilities of the BerlPhil are one of the things that make them what they are. Sadly there is always some compression on recordings etc., because the actual dynamic range would not be feasible at home. Their piano ist astounding. Their forte earth shattering. If the music allows it, they beat you up - and throw you into emptiness a moment later. Let Milo organize some tickets and come to the Philharmonie some day!

I think this man is a perfect replacement for Sir Simon Rattle. Certainly 'feels' the music in his expression and the orchestra will follow him very well.
It seems that every time I hear the music I’m discovering something new. What a masterpiece!
Orgasmic. Attending a concert you usually see the conductor only from behind. How nice to watch him from a different angle. Imagine standing there yourself, in the centre of the room, surrounded by this exceptional band, with this sound being produced by them, like storm waves rolling over you from all sides, breaking at the walls and flowing back, inundating you. Smashing you down and lifting you up, a little barge with broken rudder. Still, you steer it precisely. I doubt that it should be possible to approach bliss much closer. Who would not be moved to tears! I commend Petrenko on showing his feelings. There is nothing to contemn here.

@@chrisczajasager these are three completely different dimensions of performance perception: audio, video, live performance. And there is an abyss between all three. What is permissible in one spoils others.

So this was the piece that was supposed to be played before the very end of the world if the Mayas were right in their calculations… wow. Which better composer to herald such frightening and deeply solemn moment than Scriabin? If someday we happen to know somehow the date of our collective fate, please, schedule a concert with his Mysterium. How suitable it would be!
Shocker -- conductor appointed on his merits as a conductor! Film at Eleven... lol. Looks and sounds to me like this band is in very good hands, i.e. an intelligent musician who is very much about serving music and having the musicians communicate the music to the audience.

Emotion ! I heard this amazing piece last March in the same hall, with the Berlin Radio Symphony (Janowski), and it was just as phenomenal. The best acoustics in the world !

The final peroration is thrillingly intoxicating. Perfection as usual from the Berliners.
I was in Munich last summer, to hear and see him conducting Wagner's Ring. It was grandioso, but also tender and full of nuances. I am amazed by his work. He and Esa-Pekka Salonen are my favorite living conductors.

here in Berlin, shame,: a Scriabine Piano series series in 2015 where not all of the 10 sonatas were played.And also in that year all of the symphonies should have been performed,too..
