  • Emergency services expedited to the scene of a shocking building accident this morning.
At around 10.15am, crews from Fire & Rescue NSW, NSW Ambulance and Police descended upon a building site in Pine Avenue, Earlwood.
The 17-year-old male who was working on the building site became trapped from the waist down as the massive concrete slab crushed his body against the side of a 4 foot trench.
His workmates rushed to his assistance and raised the alarm for help. Workers from "Energy Alliance" who were nearby on another building site heard the screams for help, and they rushed over to assist the other builders.
Prior to the arrival of emergency services, the builders used their ingenuity to secure an excavator to prevent the concrete slab from shifting any further.
The multi-agency rescue involved specialist teams such as accredited rescue fire personnel, USAR, (Urban Search & Rescue), SOT (NSW Ambulance Special Operations Team), SCAT (NSW Ambulance Speciality Casualty Access Team), and the MRU (NSW Ambulance Medical Retrieval Unit / Doctor)
Emergency services were thankful for the additional assistance of the workers from Energy Alliance. These men worked tirelessly to secure an accessible working area for the rescue team and provided a mobile crane which was used to relieve the weight of the concrete slab.
Mark Reilly from Fire & Rescue NSW said it was a "textbook rescue", and these types of rescues have been performed time after time.
Michael Corlis, from NSW Ambulance said that the male was in a stable condition and he has suffered a suspected leg fracture. He was transported to St George Hospital.
The extraction took around an hour to complete.
Work cover is investigating the incident.
