  • On this Vlog Eric and Lauren discuss a fire caused by a lithium-ion battery that was left charging. Just hours later and only a mile down the road, a 2 Alarm condo fire occurred. Drawings of the new Tiller 34 are revealed, they share video from Academy 23-1 Hell Night and of course, patch shout outs.

    Good Comm's not tons of convo's waiting to hear from Command, great structure, first Pump on scene looks like they started the knock down and radioed they needed water (truck probably has 250/500 Gallons can't tell cause I can't see Pump), Command clear instructions leaving the radio open for import comm's. Great comm's on trucks arriving and placement. Funny ,I have seen this many times and its usually the exhaust fan, NOT saying it is but have seen this many times. Great channel, enjoy it, keep up the great work.

      @@Autofleet4429 And the irony is, the old Station 15 is roughly half mile away from the Glen Oaks complex, while 37s is over two miles away. Not that it would've made a difference in this case, but it never fails that when a department closes a firehouse--even temporarily, as is the case with 15s--there's always a fire that breaks out right next door. Heck, I remember when FDNY Engine 204's own quarters burned down about two weeks after the company was disbanded in 2003!

    It's really interesting to see how different fire departements solve the challenge of changing requirements and demands in what we do - and sometimes in completely opposite ways. This Quint is a great example, because what SMFR is basically putting into service is an _eierlegende Wollmilchsau_ (as we like to call these things in germany, it literally means oviparous wool-milk-sow but is used to describe a jack-of-all-trades type of apapratus) - meanwhile other departements solve the ever growing specialization by becoming more and more modual, i.e. by having swap body trucks or pallet cage boxes that can be switched out according to the call's requirement profile.

Question on when they were attacking the fire. It looked like they were using foam. Is this a routine approach or do they change to foam if straight water is not working as they hoped? I thank you for any response to help me understand and learn. I will be looking forward to all of your videos.. keep up the great work. Welcome to the channel and thank you for watching! There are different types of foam for different types of material burning. This is considered a Class A or "ordinary combustible" fire and Class A foam was used in some of the hose lines. Foam helps maximize the efficiency of the water by cooling and smothering burning material. It's especially helpful when there's a lot of layered burning material.

    Any chance you guys were at 15's the other day when 31s was using it as a training prop? That would make for an entertaining episode of Station Saturday--"Hey, guys, watch us burn up our old fire house!"
    Also, great job filling in for Denver Health on that Bear Creek water rescue last Friday. I was a bit surprised to see a South Metro ambulance and med unit (?) on-scene with Denver Engine 25, but the Denver guys told me you fill in for Denver Health when they're short-staffed.
    Keep up the good work and stay safe.

      We didn't have a PIO for the training you saw, but there are more scheduled so we'll likely go and capture some of the scenarios. They're using theatrical smoke which looks pretty convincing!
      Denver Paramedics will occasionally call for South Metro Medic Units whenever our resources are closest and most appropriate. The SMFR Dive Team also started responding until the details of Denver's needs were confirmed.

      @@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO Yeah, I was being facetious about actually burning down 15s' old house. Still, what a great opportunity to train on a real residential structure (sort of). That said, I remember in my early volly days after the major Missouri flooding in 1993, we trained live-fire scenarios several times on a number of condemned, flood-damaged houses. You can recreate a lot in a formal training structure but there's simply no replacement for the real thing, especially in terms of dealing with exposure issues.

    • @SouthMetroFireRescuePIO
      @SouthMetroFireRescuePIO  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      The look of this building was very deceiving! What appear to fire wall breaks are actually just attic draft stops. The building construction is also unique in that the units run the entire width of the building with front and back doors. Many other complexes in our district have similar looking construction with units that back against each other under the ridge line.

That's unbelievable dam I'm sorry hopefully everyone was okay on both sides can't remember if he said no injuries or not .

    Are camping trailers required to have smoke detectors?

    • @SouthMetroFireRescuePIO
      @SouthMetroFireRescuePIO  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Since camping trailers aren't inspected by fire departments, smoke alarms probably aren't a legal requirement to maintain in most or all jurisdictions. However, we always recommend working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in every sleeping area and one in the main corridor of the camper, similar to a home.

      Station 13 and Station 14 are actually a few years older than Station 15, but they were designed differently. Their open layout and larger property allowed additions to be added about 10 years ago, so there isn't the same need to rebuild them.

    Why is the ladder truck only a 2 axle shouldn’t it be a 3 axle given it be going out in snow

    • @franklewis6943
      @franklewis6943 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nobody in the States makes a 3-axle aerial. Besides, there's a inter-axle differential that locks the front and rear driveshafts to equalize the power delivered to each axle and prevent slippage in low-traction conditions.

      And a huge thumbs down to the revelers who jumped the barricades at the end of the victory parade route, leading directly to DPD Sgt. Justin Dodge being run over by DFD Tower 15 while trying to prevent said revelers from being run over by said apparatus. Sgt. Dodge might still lose his leg but, even if he doesn't, his career as a LEO in general and DPD SWAT member specifically are likely over, just because some fans wanted to get just a little bit closer to the O'Brien trophy for a selfie.

      @@franklewis6943 What idea? Putting water on the burning material? I know it's an alien concept for USA fireplayers but take my word for it, putting water or other fire extinguishing materials on burning stuff will stop it from burning.

    • @franklewis6943
      @franklewis6943 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JB91710 No, the idea that a hose stuck through the roof will extinguish By the time a fire burns through the ceiling, the fuel that is feeding it isn't near the floor but closer to the ceiling. Simply sticking a hose through the roof and spraying downward isn't "putting water on the burning material". That doesn't even address a second side of the fire triangle--heat. Again, at that stage of a fire, cooling the floor does nothing to lessen the heat at the ceiling, so the fire there will continue to burn hot and spread, especially when it's already breached the attic space, as it did here. Then there's the issue of putting firefighters on a compromised roof that's already partially collapsed. Even if what you advocate was a logical approach to attacking a fire, placing them in a precarious position to effect it is downright dangerous, and I know of no agency in the developed world that would take such a risk.
      That said, you are correct to a degree, and that's why modern building codes require sprinkler systems in commercial (including multi-unit residential complexes) buildings. They might not always provide the water flow to extinguish a blaze but generally are enough to prevent its spread much beyond the origin. Unfortunately, this complex was built before Centennial required they be installed and the results are clear to see here. Had there been a sprinkler system in this complex--as well as fire walls in the attic--it's likely this fire would not have spread beyond the unit where it ignited before the first crew arrived on scene to address it.
