1 killed after car crashes through fencing on bridge near East 28th Street and Cedar Avenue

- One person is dead after a car went through the fencing on a bridge in downtown Cleveland Tuesday morning.
3News crews were on scene early Tuesday morning and streamed as Cleveland police and Cleveland Fire Department officials worked to pull the car safely from the situation.
According to officials with the Cleveland Division of Police, the incident occurred on the overpass bridge at East 28th Street and Cedar Avenue.
Officers were still on the scene around 2 p.m., according to police.
No other information is available at this time. Cleveland police officials tell 3News that additional information will be released as it becomes available.

It seems foolhardy not to close down the underpass on that side. Falling debris would be dangerous.
I can't believe someone didn't shut down the highway below this vehicle!!!! A tailight dangling above and falling below into a vehicle driving 60 mph would be catastrophic below. What the hell were they thinking.

I agree... who knows what bits and pieces, even personal belongings could have fallen from the SUV... it was swinging and bumping for such a long time... although some guys did walk to the fencing, not sure what they were checking for.
It’s obvious that first responders have been on scene for some time....how police are not controlling traffic below at that point is beyond me

Good job that fence did its Job, there was more of that Car on the Freeway side than on the public street side.could easily of been much worse. It says in the comments this Driver suffered a Heart attack at the wheel age 45

so near yet so far...
The longer I watched, the more anxious and upset I became. Do you know how many times cranes fail? I watch accident videos... and all those guys kept looking down at the traffic in the underpass... yet, they continued. This seems extremely reckless. Those cars below have no idea the danger they're in 😳😡

I have been a heavy rescue driver for many years but this is a first for me I have done some pretty bad fatalities but this takes skill absolute skill to get a car in that position.

From what I see and the some of the comments I read, I sounds like to me that he didn't quite make it to the hospital, he should have just gained the attention of a cop instead trying to drive himself to the hospital. I know that Ambulances are expensive but maybe he still be alive. May he rest in peace and condolences to his family, unbelievable
My husband had a heart attack in 2009 at age 54. I was driving him to the hospital because he was “feeling weird” but a few blocks from home he wanted to stop at the fire station down the street because they have EMTs. About one minute after we walked in the door, he went into cardiac arrest. They had medics on him within seconds. He flat lined and they did the paddles on him 3 times and then took him to the hospital by ambulance. That saved his life. Today he is thriving.
It amazes me every time how slow the whole process takes they just seem to walk round aimlessly
Dammit!! Another news channel who posts long videos with no editing to make it watchable (like taking out the useless parts that noone wants to sit through), and no narration or on screen text to walk us through it. This is lazy work. And the second video I've seen from this channel that I felt exactly the same about. I'm going to press the "Do not recommend this channel" button. Total waste of my time.

I really appreciate the firemen and first responses. Their job can be so grueling- extracting people from wrecks and disasters, et al. I don't know how they do it and I commend them for it. You have my gratitude 😌
These guys signed up for the job knowing the conditions. They get very well paid for it too. I'm more appreciative of doctors, nurses and other ER staff!
Cedar and East 28th Streets. One of my first jobs out of college was calling on all the inner city Cleveland grocery stores. I was told by the major food company I worked for to get out of town by 4:00 pm. I had a couple store owners walk me to my car. They were carrying firearms. They knew I was a target as a white guy walking through there. I got wise and told the company to get me out of there or I quit. They finally hired a black guy for those areas. That was 40 years ago. I can't imagine what DA HOOD looks like now...

Seen and done a lot of recoveries , bet the crew were quite capable of recovering the vehicle with out the " expert help " of the fire brigade, esp that guy in the white hat, he was all over the place and more of a nuisance than help .
So.. were the victims still in SUV prior to getting it off wall... or did they recover them first???
So they didn't bother closing the road below anyone could be killed from falling debris 😮

Well the catch fence did it’s job I guess that steel pipe laying in the median with that traffic wiping through there I don’t think would be too safe another family lost a member right before the holidays very sad
