Instead of putting the fire extinguisher in the front trunk put it at the base of the drivers' seat. Time is extremely critical after the fire starts.

    • @tavarish
      @tavarish  5 ปีที่แล้ว +22

no space for it. the bottom of the driver's seat is touching the floor.

What about on firewall between 2 seats? By the time you get it from frunk a lit of wasted time.

@@tavarish, understood but what ever happens if for some reason (front crash, etc) you can't open the front trunk. If I'm you I'll find a place inside the cabin.

Tavarish, seriously, get a 2kg automotive grade fire extinguisher with a bracket and mount it at the bottom front of the driver's seat. Learn how to use it, not only how to trigger it, but how to put out the flame.

    • @JoranGroothengel
      @JoranGroothengel 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Yeah, in a car like this with a bit of history I would definitely not skimp on the fire extinguisher, get a biggun. Plenty of space in the frunk, don't know if a 2kg would fit in front of the seats?
      Edit:
Especially since an engine fire from a fuel leak, if one reoccurs, might be a bit tricky to put out. If you put it out it might easily reignite if the gasoline reaches a hot part of the engine again. Don't do a Hoovie! :P

Definitely get a decent size extinguisher. I recently went on a fire extinguisher course for work. Those small ones are pretty useless. They last seconds. Best advice given for a building fire was use the extinguisher then throw it thru the window and follow it out! 👍 Guess the guy never lived in a apartment block 😂.

    • @dawidtf

Notgoin’ Back2Cali yeah it’s the fact that it waits for the spoiler to lower down for the trunk/ hood can go up to let the top out or maybe it thinks it’s driving which is why it only unlocks the mechanism but doesn’t actually open or close it fully like when you drive above 20mph

I feel like a fire extinguisher would be more viable in the footwell because if it were in the trunk, you have to open the trunk, get out walk over open and take it out, whereas if it were in the footwell you just have to reach to it and get out. There is a lot of lost time if it were in the trunk

Take one more fire prevention step and put a main battery disconnect directly off the terminal. You have lots of room and easy access right beside the extinguisher. Or at the minimum keep a pair of wire cutters large enough to cut the lead battery wire mounted on the extinguisher. A fuel fire almost always burns electrical insulation and can erupt a secondary fire that it tough to put out until the power is interrupted. Its a bad feeling when you use all of the extinguisher putting out the gas fire then a few minutes later the shorted wires from it start glowing haha I call it the ole Ferrari one-two whammy!

However, (and I hope you take this the right way!) lately it feels like most of these uploads you talk about things that need to get done and nothing else happens. We want to see these things actually get done, fixed, replaced, etc. The lists that you go over honestly speaking are kinda repetitive and we all know what needs to get done. Upload your next videos with some progress! Anyways keep it up and good luck with the lambo.

    Hi Tavarish,
I look forward to all your posts as you include brilliant detail.
R8talk.com mentions the stock spoiler motor has position sensors that the ECU likes to see.
When de-cating Motorbikes we leave the motor working and disconnect the linkage when removing any valves.
So on my R8 I have managed to tap the '7mm output shafts' out and leave the motor turning free.
    All the best.

Heat and horsepower aren't the same thing. Heat is energy and horsepower is work. The 4 stroke internal combustion engine has an efficiency of around usually 35% theoretically it isn't 65% of the horsepower that is lost but rather 65% of the energy of the combustion is heat and the other 35% is pressure that the engine can translate into work. It's thermodynamic my friend. Energy loss = engine, horsepower loss = drivetrain. Of course in the real world, the efficiency can be affected by poor combustion, the compression, the timing.

Man I regret not mentioning it too, I'd forgotten by the end of the other video. I used that seal paste stuff too recently when I upgraded my fpr. The fittings came with tape already on them, but I took that off and used the paste instead. It's got an anaerobic cure, so sorta like thread lock. I'll take the gauge off it soon so will find out how easy it is to undo fittings with the paste.

Remember when you noticed a gas smell while driving it and someone told you it was the fuel lines permeating the smell. lol. I'm so glad you found the real reason for the smell coming from under the seat. Aren't project cars just the best?

This is just my opinion but the spoiler ECU is probably sending a signal to the main ECU to tell that the convertible top that is in a safe position to move back and forth safely and probably a secondary check to ensure you're not trying to put the top up at say 80 mph. Without that secondary signal check from the spoiler ECU to say that the spoiler is not engaged. Its going to go into safety move as a precaution until it receives a signal from the spoiler ECU. Most likely check the firmware for any mods or reconnect the spoiler ECU, place in neutral, and engage the e-brake and the top should move. This is a European Supercar. Its normal for something that simple to be that complicated

Fun fact I myself am in automotive electrician never button everything back up just connect all the connections back up which will coincide with that top then install the computer or body control module and what may be it. Then do a little bit more troubleshooting once you’re done or feel that you’ve covered all bases and you cannot figure it out put the interior back in

RE: The Roof - it makes sense that the roof ECM would check with the spoiler ECM to detect the spoiler position before operating, it would also explain why the roof starts to move and then stops - because it got no signal to proceed from the spoiler ECM. Only one way to find out...:)

I follow on the Samba (VW) website. I've read a lot of good things about the BlazeCut Fire Suppression System. You just zip tie it in and if it ever gets too hot (fire), the system dumps the retardant and puts out the fire. Air cooled VWs are notorious for engine bay fires due to unsafe repairs and the fuel inlet tube coming out of the carburetor.

Don't forget that the top can't be raised when you pass a certain speed, so it might have a connection with the spoiler ECU. It might get a faulty signal now, that the car is moving at a speed above that limit, and that stops the top from going up.

Could def see wing position being an issue for the top opening and closing
Could be it only moves a little bc it thinks it’s going to hit the wing without the wing ECU present

when seconds count make sure your fire extinguisher is only minutes away!
and i say yes it's very possible that the computer is needed for the top to function. probably needs an all clear on the wing position before operating so things don't "foul".

Id mount your fire extinguisher on a bracket behind the drivers seat.
By the time you got out of the car, around to the frunk, the car would be well alight. You want it close to hand, not tucked away in a storage compartment.

It's been a great journey so far......
re' missing ecu's etc........ I've no experience of Lambo however as has been discussed many times this car is in many ways an Audi. I used to have a mk2 TT. The cables running into my drivers door failed. Result. The electronic spoiler started acting up - not coming up at speed/not dropping when parked etc. I know that doesn't solve your lid problem BUT it does represent the peculiarities of Audi wiring systems. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the missing ecu or perhaps other apparently unconnected wiring issues are at the bottom of the problem.
Keep up the good work - ps time for the Supra!

That's right! The spoiler ecu might just contain an axis sensor to detect angler if the engine cover too. Just a guess.

The fact that you’re getting an “implausible position” error with the top, it could stand to reason that part of it has to do with the computers getting a full up, or full down signal from the spoiler. It may need to see the signal transition, or a specific signal to know it’s safe to open the rear lid to allow the top to go up and down. If I were working the logic for the top, that’s what I would have done.

The ECU might complete the circuit. The spoiler might have to be in a certain position before top can go up and down. So the ECU most likely has a position sensor built in.

In case of fire you want to reach the extinguisher as fast as you can !

Stato-seal is simply the best seal and they have AN sizing Earl's Plumbing has a great selection, it is nitrile AKA Buna rubber and is perfectly suitable for fuel and ethanol, I have used it plenty of times modding fuel canisters. Also Earl's sells AN crush washers that really help sealing AN fittings. 😀😀😀
