    I am a former police Sgt., 29yo, and with a wife and kids. Last March I left policing to pursue my aviation dream and have since earned my CMEL and CSEL. I have never had money to go and buy things in the past due to my salary and the cost of living for a family. I am using a loan to pay for flight school, but I'm looking at it as an investment. It is definitely a motivator to see you in a hangar with the plane you are getting built from the ground up. If all goes as planned, I hope to one day be in this exact situation. Congratulations.

      Try to get your old job back. It’s going to take 15 years before you have enough flying time to get a decent job. You need to be in training by 18 years and not have any plans for a family for at least 15 years. That’s how long it takes to get above minimum wage in flying. You will be stuck flying mail at night and for crazy hours for a long time before you make it to decent paying stuff. Flying for fun is great at any age, but if you want to fly commercial, start young and single.

      Who pissed in your Cheerios?
      Don't listen to this guy. I don't want to speculate on his motivation for sewing discontent & misinformation.
      To be fair, the best time to get into flying was yesterday. Ya missed the crazy hiring wave during Covid, but historically speaking, you are sitting in a reasonably good position. Make no mistake about it, you have a couple challenging years ahead before your hours are competitive.
      Don't bother wasting money on a CFI ticket. Nobody cares about instructing experience anymore. Try to get work flying pipelines, or better yet go to Alaska for the summer & fly in the bush. Ya you will be away from the family & it will be difficult, but getting 75-100 hours a month while getting incredibly valuable experience can't be over stated.
      The chances that you live in a place with entry level aviation jobs that have a reasonable wage AND allow you to log 75-100 hours a month is rare. Unfortunately you should expect to move the family, be on the road for months at a time, or commute.
      I wish you the best.

      @@adamr9215What is someone supposed to do with that information? Why instead of trying to understand different perspectives and choices, do we chastise them as wrong with no tolerance for difference. No one can go back in time, and a wife and children are more precious than anything job you could ever do. That’s coming from a single 28y/o student pilot who (almost) gave up on professional aviation, just to wind up living alone, working in dead end technical service job primarily staffed by bitter, mean old men. Like them, you sound like a doomtroll and I hope you aren’t anywhere near Part 121 aircraft with that attitude.

    WOW! Progress is going well and quick! Thank you Trent for bringing us along on this build journey! I have enjoyed it immensely! I am actually surprised at the Completion date of mid to late Feb. I honestly wasn't expecting completion to be until at least May. I'm so excited to see it fly!
    With that being said, I think it is time to address the elephant in the room. What are we gonna call it? What will your callsign be? For 8 Juliet Juliet your callsign was Freedom Fox. As great of a name as it was, Freedom Cub doesn't have the same ring to it. Not to mention the Freedom fox is still out flying so we cannot take away from that. So What names are we thinking? I original was thinking Black Star, then the name from Topgun 2 jumped into my head, DARKSTAR. As cool as a name as that is, I do think it is just stealing it from a movie. We need something catchy, original, and something that when spoken, everyone will know who, and what aircraft is being referred to like Freedom Fox of old.
    So what say everyone? What name have YOU thought of? Reply and comment your Name Idea

    having wheels that big,is it really that necessary? You are going to have to really pick your landing spots due to the wear rate of those tires. The drag factor will have to be considered also.

    • @TrentonPalmer
      @TrentonPalmer  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Really necessary? No, but awesome? Yes! Honestly I doubt I will ever land anywhere that 35in tires are required, but they do smooth out all off airport landings and protect the airframe and act as an insurance policy in case you run into any unexpected rocks or logs.

    Very cool aircraft!! But as an aircraft mechanic it hurt to see all the mounting hardwear (bolts and nuts) being installed without any anti-seize or CorBan. If you have to do maintenance or any repairs on landing gear, flight controls etc. it will be much easier to remove the hardwear with anti-seize applied to them prior to installation. Maybe before final inspection take that into consideration.

    Hey Trent Im an aviation student and I have a law/technical question that I was hoping you could answer since you've already built your own plane before. When you finish building and get an airworthiness certificate does someone from the FAA come out to evaluate how it performs or do you just send in your Mx logs and weight and balance info? And when you modify your plane how big of a modification can it be before you have to re-certify it?

    • @TrentonPalmer
      @TrentonPalmer  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I will do all the test flying, basically a DAR comes out to do the final inspection and issue a special airworthiness certificate which will define the phase 1 fly off restrictions, phase 1 is testing phase, after the testing is complete I will place the plane into phase 2 which is the standard phase for experimental aircraft with the least limitations.
