Great to see you again, Sarah🥰 Sorry to hear about the troubles you've had. Hope the rest of the year will end on a high note for you and your family ❤ A fun sweater I really like to knit for kids is the petite soufflé or the love note😊
Oh my gosh, your Birkin sweater is gorgeous! It's on my list for when I feel like trying colorwork for the first time. This information about the tight yoke is good for me to hear before I attempt it.
Hi Sarah! I just stumbled upon your podcast today - watching as I work on my Sorrel sweater. Fun to discover we are neighbors (Livingston County). Some fun kid's sweaters I recommend: Bean & Olive, Welcome to the Flock, Spelt, and Norwegian Fir top down cardigan. Adding you to my subscription list to see you again!
Hi Sarah, I knit the Woodsmoke sweater, by Jessica McDonald, for a toddler in my family. It was my first and only sweater so far. It turned out good. I was very happy with it. I plan to knit an adult sized sweater sometime but I am learning to knit socks and hats now. I started knitting about 26 months ago and I love it! Thank you for sharing your knits with us 😊
Thank you for watching. It sounds like you're well on your way to making your first adult sweater soon! When I first started to knit I mainly made scarves and hats.
So nice to see your podcast again. I hope your household issues settle down very soon. Never good things to go through. Your daughter’s sweater turned out beautiful. I have got second sock syndrome in the past until I watched Crazy Sock Lady’s utube video for knitting socks on two circulars. It was a lifesaver for me. I knit both socks at the same time but separately which requires needles for both socks but you knit so much on one and then the same amount on the other. Both are basically finished at the same time so you don’t get second sock syndrome. It is never fun to knit the same thing over again. The fun of seeing it knit up is gone. Your husband’s hat turned out beautiful. Your knitting is beautiful and you have great ideas and projects.
I am so glad you liked the podcast and the projects. Thank you for coming back to watch. Your comment brought a smile to my face. I'm excited to get back to knitting more now that things are starting to settle down. Love the idea of knitting two socks at the same time!
It's great to see you again!! This was a wonderful episode! Looking forward to watching your next episode when you have a chance; Sending you positive vibes things go smoothly with the work on the flooring and life in general. 🙂💗
Hi there. Just wanted to let you know I’m enjoying your podcast 😊. I’m thinking about knitting the field day cardigan and I think yours fits perfectly. I saw that it has lots of ease in the sizing and I’m wondering how much ease is in yours. That would be really helpful for me. Your Birkin is beautiful and I hope you’ll be able to save it. Looking forward to your next episode.
First Im so glad I found your channel. I am a fellow Michigander 😊. And secondly I have made 3 cozy classic raglan by Jessie Maed. And I love all of them. I am also a tight knitter and this pattern didn’t change the fit even though I didn’t swatch. 😂. Look forward to watching any future videos you have.
Hi fellow Michigander! 👋🏼 So glad you found my channel. I've had the cozy classic on my list for ages so I think it's about time i finally just cast it on.
Just found you today. Thank you for voting! Good to hear life is getting back on track for your family. Being older -late 70s - we've been through many challenges too over the years, and my heart goes out to you. Your knitting is lovely, and I' looking forward to including you on my knitting/video pairing.
Your daughter’s sweater is so cute! One of my favorite kid knits ever is the Skift by Jessica McDonald. Maybe something to add to your queue for a rainy day. And your sock is fantastic!!!! So nice to see another episode from you!!! Miss you friend! ❤❤❤
Nice to meet you! I enjoyed your podcast. I’m sorry to hear about your recent troubles--water problems are hard enough, employment issues on top of that are just really really hard. I’m so glad that they are being resolved and you’re moving to the other side of this trial. On kids’ patterns, I really like the designer Anna Daku (The Bluebird Box). She has several patterns for kids; I really like and recommend the Homegrown Hoodie. I knit two of them this year.
Hi, nice to meet you as well! It certainly was a doozy having both challenges to navigate around the same time. Felt like we couldn't catch a break but things are looking brighter these days. Thank you for the knitwear designer recommendation. I will check her out.
Hi the soufflé kids pattern by Laura Penrose is a lovely knit and looks great. Enjoyed you vlog and hopefully your husbands work situation will be resolved ❤
Hi Sarah I just found your podcast and I am really enjoying it. As far as your colorwork sweater goes your colours are great. I have not done colorwork however I have been reading what some folks have been saying about Summer Lee's colorwork socks and that is that they have a hard time getting them on. A few experienced colorwork ladies have said to go up two needle sizes whilst doing the colorwork. I expect that this would apply to sweaters as well. Sorry this doesn't help you now.
Hi Sarah! You can definitely do the sweater surgery as described. Put the lifeline (spare yarn or spare needle) above the sleeve divide. I don't know the pattern but make sure it's lower than the final increase round. I haven't knit the Birkin but have seen it discussed in various videos and online forums about the fit issue in the yoke you are describing. You might, if not already, try seeing if anyone put up extensive notes on Ravelry on any modifications they felt were successful. Good luck!
Agree with all of this. Also, which version of the pattern do you have? I believe the pattern was updated to improve some of these ‘funnel shaping’ issues. Go for it! Good luck!
I'll need to do some digging. Great idea to see if anyone has made notes and adjusted the pattern. It is so lovely and I really want to enjoy wearing it.
Being from the south, I hadn't heard of Midwestern goodbyes but here, my son always starts to leave an hour before he has to go because he says my southern goodbyes take forever and he'd never be out on time if he didn't lol (my children are adults btw)
Regarding your colorwork sweater, have you tried blocking the yoke aggressively. That would be the first thing I would do. If that worked, you may still need to do something with the solid color neck section unless it layed down better. But, if the yoke fitted better, I’d try cutting off the neck area, picking up the stitches and knitting that part over again. I’ve done sweater surgery once before but it was basic, just cutting across the center as I missed a stripe color and it worked great by going slowly, using lifelines and saved unravelling and reknitting. Hope something works for you. Your sweater is beautiful.
I agree with the recommendation. The neckline could be easily be redone. Not sure if the pattern calls for short rows to lift the back neck area but that would be helpful to add.
I recall trying the sweater on when it was still damp after blocking it. At the time it seemed to fit well but as the sweater dried I think it tightened up. I like your suggestion to try and block the yolk again. If I can avoid cutting it and re-knitting it that would be ideal.
Great suggestion! The pattern did not have short rows when I knit it up. Someone else mentioned the pattern has been updated so maybe they include those now. This sweater was one of my earlier makes so I wasn't aware or short rows and how different sweater constructions fit my body.
For some all over texture dk weight sweaters, I really like several I’ve seen by Petite Knits and also Rebecca Clow. Definitely worth checking them out.
Hello, I made poets sweaters, tee etc, this is my favorite stitch lace pattern, everybody in my family wanted it. I am not able to knit it without ripping it at least once because of mistakes. I have been intending to knit the birkin for ages. I would try to put an elastic in the collar hem or even turn the collar inside to have a dubble turtleneck before trying further surgery.
Thanks a lot for a new and nice episode. For ideas to sweaters and cardigans for children you can watch Hanaan Bonet 's knitting podcast. Wish you beautiful days. 🧶🍂🍁❄️☕🤗
I don’t think it’s all about your knitting as there’s lots of comments on Ravelry about the poorly fitting yoke. I had the same experience myself . I believe we rewrote it so I don’t know if it’s still a problem.
When the moment comes your number will be on speed dial! I thought of your Alpine Bloom sweater and how that should be what mine is like. More soft and loose on my shoulders.
Great to see you again, Sarah🥰 Sorry to hear about the troubles you've had. Hope the rest of the year will end on a high note for you and your family ❤ A fun sweater I really like to knit for kids is the petite soufflé or the love note😊

Thank you! It feels good to be back.
So sorry to hear about your flooding and layoff! Glad to hear things are looking up. Lots of positive thoughts coming your way!
That’s so sweet of you. Thank you for all the positive thoughts. I'll take them all right now. Haha

And I miss you! Thanks for watching and supporting me.
The Skift looks like such a cute sweater! I'll definitely add it to my favorites list.

Love that pattern. I didn't realize she released it in a child's size. I bet that would be adorable on my girls.

Love the sweater for your daughter!
Thank you! 😊
I’m mid way through my first ever sweater knitting for my grand daughter. It’s turning out really cute ☺️ pattern is King of the Castle on Ravelry
I hope you enjoy finishing it! I just looked the pattern up and its very cute.
@ making the size 6 with worsted weight- adorable

Wish you beautiful days. 🧶🍂🍁❄️☕🤗
Have you considered combining a mohair or suri with the fingering yarn to make it not as tedious? Lento?
I don’t think it’s all about your knitting as there’s lots of comments on Ravelry about the poorly fitting yoke. I had the same experience myself . I believe we rewrote it so I don’t know if it’s still a problem.
You need to try Nancy Wheeler’s sock patterns. They are addicting and you will never have second sock syndrome.
Nice cardigan
Thanks :)
could you aggressively block the birkin and then add an elastic thread to the collar?
Why dont you use thicker needles for the yoke?
Would be happy to help you on the sweater surgery if you need any help!
