Hi there. Just wanted to let you know I’m enjoying your podcast 😊. I’m thinking about knitting the field day cardigan and I think yours fits perfectly. I saw that it has lots of ease in the sizing and I’m wondering how much ease is in yours. That would be really helpful for me. Your Birkin is beautiful and I hope you’ll be able to save it. Looking forward to your next episode.
could you aggressively block the birkin and then add an elastic thread to the collar?
Why dont you use thicker needles for the yoke?
Great to see you again, Sarah🥰 Sorry to hear about the troubles you've had. Hope the rest of the year will end on a high note for you and your family ❤ A fun sweater I really like to knit for kids is the petite soufflé or the love note😊
Oh my gosh, your Birkin sweater is gorgeous! It's on my list for when I feel like trying colorwork for the first time. This information about the tight yoke is good for me to hear before I attempt it.
Hi Sarah! I just stumbled upon your podcast today - watching as I work on my Sorrel sweater. Fun to discover we are neighbors (Livingston County). Some fun kid's sweaters I recommend: Bean & Olive, Welcome to the Flock, Spelt, and Norwegian Fir top down cardigan. Adding you to my subscription list to see you again!
I don’t think it’s all about your knitting as there’s lots of comments on Ravelry about the poorly fitting yoke. I had the same experience myself . I believe we rewrote it so I don’t know if it’s still a problem.
Hi Sarah I just found your podcast and I am really enjoying it. As far as your colorwork sweater goes your colours are great. I have not done colorwork however I have been reading what some folks have been saying about Summer Lee's colorwork socks and that is that they have a hard time getting them on. A few experienced colorwork ladies have said to go up two needle sizes whilst doing the colorwork. I expect that this would apply to sweaters as well. Sorry this doesn't help you now.
You need to try Nancy Wheeler’s sock patterns. They are addicting and you will never have second sock syndrome.
Have you considered combining a mohair or suri with the fingering yarn to make it not as tedious? Lento?
I’m mid way through my first ever sweater knitting for my grand daughter. It’s turning out really cute ☺️ pattern is King of the Castle on Ravelry
I hope you enjoy finishing it! I just looked the pattern up and its very cute.
@ making the size 6 with worsted weight- adorable
Being from the south, I hadn't heard of Midwestern goodbyes but here, my son always starts to leave an hour before he has to go because he says my southern goodbyes take forever and he'd never be out on time if he didn't lol (my children are adults btw)
Hi Sarah, I knit the Woodsmoke sweater, by Jessica McDonald, for a toddler in my family. It was my first and only sweater so far. It turned out good. I was very happy with it. I plan to knit an adult sized sweater sometime but I am learning to knit socks and hats now. I started knitting about 26 months ago and I love it! Thank you for sharing your knits with us 😊
Thank you for watching. It sounds like you're well on your way to making your first adult sweater soon! When I first started to knit I mainly made scarves and hats.
Love the sweater for your daughter!
Thank you! 😊
Hello, I made poets sweaters, tee etc, this is my favorite stitch lace pattern, everybody in my family wanted it. I am not able to knit it without ripping it at least once because of mistakes. I have been intending to knit the birkin for ages. I would try to put an elastic in the collar hem or even turn the collar inside to have a dubble turtleneck before trying further surgery.
Thanks for the sweater advice. I hadn't thought to adjust the collar at all. Hmm...
First Im so glad I found your channel. I am a fellow Michigander 😊. And secondly I have made 3 cozy classic raglan by Jessie Maed. And I love all of them. I am also a tight knitter and this pattern didn’t change the fit even though I didn’t swatch. 😂. Look forward to watching any future videos you have.
Hi fellow Michigander! 👋🏼 So glad you found my channel. I've had the cozy classic on my list for ages so I think it's about time i finally just cast it on.
Just found you today. Thank you for voting! Good to hear life is getting back on track for your family. Being older -late 70s - we've been through many challenges too over the years, and my heart goes out to you. Your knitting is lovely, and I' looking forward to including you on my knitting/video pairing.
Thank you so much for your kind words and for watching/subscribing! Hopefully brighter days are ahead for us. Just gotta pray and stay positive.
Nice to meet you! I enjoyed your podcast. I’m sorry to hear about your recent troubles--water problems are hard enough, employment issues on top of that are just really really hard. I’m so glad that they are being resolved and you’re moving to the other side of this trial. On kids’ patterns, I really like the designer Anna Daku (The Bluebird Box). She has several patterns for kids; I really like and recommend the Homegrown Hoodie. I knit two of them this year.
Hi, nice to meet you as well! It certainly was a doozy having both challenges to navigate around the same time. Felt like we couldn't catch a break but things are looking brighter these days. Thank you for the knitwear designer recommendation. I will check her out.
Hi the soufflé kids pattern by Laura Penrose is a lovely knit and looks great. Enjoyed you vlog and hopefully your husbands work situation will be resolved ❤
Love that pattern. I didn't realize she released it in a child's size. I bet that would be adorable on my girls.
So lvoely to see you back! Welcome to the wonderful world of sock knitting!!
Thank you! It feels good to be back.
Nice cardigan
Thanks :)
So sorry to hear about your flooding and layoff! Glad to hear things are looking up. Lots of positive thoughts coming your way!
That’s so sweet of you. Thank you for all the positive thoughts. I'll take them all right now. Haha
For some all over texture dk weight sweaters, I really like several I’ve seen by Petite Knits and also Rebecca Clow. Definitely worth checking them out.
Oh good suggestions Darlene! There are just so many wonderful designers and patterns out there to choose from.
Regarding your colorwork sweater, have you tried blocking the yoke aggressively. That would be the first thing I would do. If that worked, you may still need to do something with the solid color neck section unless it layed down better. But, if the yoke fitted better, I’d try cutting off the neck area, picking up the stitches and knitting that part over again. I’ve done sweater surgery once before but it was basic, just cutting across the center as I missed a stripe color and it worked great by going slowly, using lifelines and saved unravelling and reknitting. Hope something works for you. Your sweater is beautiful.
I agree with the recommendation. The neckline could be easily be redone. Not sure if the pattern calls for short rows to lift the back neck area but that would be helpful to add.
I recall trying the sweater on when it was still damp after blocking it. At the time it seemed to fit well but as the sweater dried I think it tightened up. I like your suggestion to try and block the yolk again. If I can avoid cutting it and re-knitting it that would be ideal.
Great suggestion! The pattern did not have short rows when I knit it up. Someone else mentioned the pattern has been updated so maybe they include those now. This sweater was one of my earlier makes so I wasn't aware or short rows and how different sweater constructions fit my body.
So nice to see your podcast again. I hope your household issues settle down very soon. Never good things to go through. Your daughter’s sweater turned out beautiful. I have got second sock syndrome in the past until I watched Crazy Sock Lady’s utube video for knitting socks on two circulars. It was a lifesaver for me. I knit both socks at the same time but separately which requires needles for both socks but you knit so much on one and then the same amount on the other. Both are basically finished at the same time so you don’t get second sock syndrome. It is never fun to knit the same thing over again. The fun of seeing it knit up is gone. Your husband’s hat turned out beautiful. Your knitting is beautiful and you have great ideas and projects.
I am so glad you liked the podcast and the projects. Thank you for coming back to watch. Your comment brought a smile to my face. I'm excited to get back to knitting more now that things are starting to settle down. Love the idea of knitting two socks at the same time!
Would be happy to help you on the sweater surgery if you need any help!
When the moment comes your number will be on speed dial! I thought of your Alpine Bloom sweater and how that should be what mine is like. More soft and loose on my shoulders.
Your daughter’s sweater is so cute! One of my favorite kid knits ever is the Skift by Jessica McDonald. Maybe something to add to your queue for a rainy day. And your sock is fantastic!!!! So nice to see another episode from you!!! Miss you friend! ❤❤❤
And I miss you! Thanks for watching and supporting me. The Skift looks like such a cute sweater! I'll definitely add it to my favorites list.
Hi Sarah! You can definitely do the sweater surgery as described. Put the lifeline (spare yarn or spare needle) above the sleeve divide. I don't know the pattern but make sure it's lower than the final increase round. I haven't knit the Birkin but have seen it discussed in various videos and online forums about the fit issue in the yoke you are describing. You might, if not already, try seeing if anyone put up extensive notes on Ravelry on any modifications they felt were successful. Good luck!
Agree with all of this. Also, which version of the pattern do you have? I believe the pattern was updated to improve some of these ‘funnel shaping’ issues. Go for it! Good luck!
You know I am not sure! Thanks for letting me know there was an update. So nice to hear that others are aware of this 'funnel shaping' issue.
I'll need to do some digging. Great idea to see if anyone has made notes and adjusted the pattern. It is so lovely and I really want to enjoy wearing it.
It's great to see you again!! This was a wonderful episode! Looking forward to watching your next episode when you have a chance; Sending you positive vibes things go smoothly with the work on the flooring and life in general. 🙂💗
Thanks a lot for a new and nice episode. For ideas to sweaters and cardigans for children you can watch Hanaan Bonet 's knitting podcast. Wish you beautiful days. 🧶🍂🍁❄️☕🤗
TH-cam suggested your channel for me. Love your tank top!!!
Thank you for watching!
Enjoyed the video! What a special treat for you to have your grandmother’s hand knits! I think your hand dyed yarn would look great as a ranunculus, it works up great with DK weight yarn.
Ngl it do look good asf
I really love that whitish color sweater you're wearing that your grandmother knitted. Any chance you could ask her what the pattern is called please?
@@YehowahDaughter I wish I could but my grandma passed away almost 10 years ago now. That’s why I’m so grateful to have her sweaters now.
I am enjoying your new podcast. I hope you are enjoying creating it. I too had a grandmother that knitted but unfortunately she passed before I started as well. I think of her often while I knit.
Your yarn is beautiful!! You could still do a sweater but maybe with contrasting collar, cuffs, and hems? (A nice tawny brown??) A dear duomo or something would be so cozy!
@@jordynknits oh what a fun idea adding a contrast color!
Absolutely love hearing your memories of the cottage and so glad you get to go there with your kiddos! We’ve got a family cabin that’s been in my husbands family for three generations and it is so fun to be able to bring our son and future daughter up.
So special for you to have your grandma’s sweaters. I also learned from my grandma but didn’t really become a knitter until long after she passed, and I wish I had more of her knitting. I have one afghan that she crocheted (which she also taught me) and it is well loved.
What a wonderful gift to have your grandma’s sweaters AND they fit!!! Thank you for sharing the photos of the old yarn store as well - great family history. The colors you dyed with M1 would fit perfectly in my stash. 😉
P.S. Tubular bind-off: I loosely wrap the yarn around the edge that I am binding off 4 times and that has been enough to finish.
The Tolsta Tee would be beautiful in your Copper Oxide yarn.
@@laneyf7849 good idea! That pattern has been on my list.
Check out Lories Twisty bindoff. I use it all the time and like it.
Hi, i'm only hoping that in the future, my granddaughter will appreciate my knits as much as you do. I love the yarn you dyed. I think you should add a copper coulour skein and make a colorwork sweater. It would be stanning.
I love that you have your grandmother's sweaters. 🧶I like your daughter's purple sweater. 💜
Roxanne just did a video on adding yarn when doing any kind of needle BO... Especially useful when using unspun and can only use a short piece at a time.
I was just on ravelry and I believe it was Izabell Kraemer who had a bunch of different pullovers in sport and dk that also had all different stripe patterns. You should be able to find something interesting to do with the yarn you dyed if you have something to go with it. Even colorwork can be done with solids over variegated and it's wonderful.... I may go one of those routes myself.
You are so blesses, I hear in your voice that you do realize this. You might be able to get some of the coffee stains out of the sweaters, do some research on how to remove coffee stains, that might help. But then the coffee stains are who your grandmother was so, maybe just love these things that are in each sweater that will remind you of her. These are such beautiful sweaters 💕
It's been so nice to see you again, Sarah!! How blessed you are to have your grandma's beautiful sweaters!! ❤ I love them. Your projects all look lovely. Take care!
❤❤ awww looooved your suitcase if gorgeous knits from your late gran, simply special and what a talented lady. She will be looking down in you and be happy ❤❤ love the dk yarn you have dyed up its lovely. Make a shawl it's squishy to wear around you in the autumn. You make my day Hun. Love Di xx in the uk
@@dianegatley2467 Hi Di 👋🏼 So nice to hear from you again. Hope all is well over there in the UK. ❤️
@@coffeeknitswithsarah awwww his, the weather here where I am is beautiful today. Just been to a local cafe with the nicest staff and food and beautiful ponds with ducks and dragon flies. Took my adult son ed with me and we had a cooked breakfast and he read his book whilst I knitted on my musselbrough hat. Bliss. Enjoy your crafting and hope you all are well too. Love Di xx
Love the sweater your wearing. Looks so nice with that lace pattern. Such a keepsake to have your grandmothers sweaters. So special. Love your daughter's sweater and the patterning of the yarn is so pretty.
Try doing the alternating cable bind off which doesn’t require cutting the yarn yet is stretchy and is a good alternative to the Tubular bind off. Take a look at Cheryl Toy’s tutorial. Love the fact that you have the sweaters knit by your Grandma, and will look forward to seeing them in future podcasts. Your dying was amazing.
