      I do the same thing as you do. What I love most is laughing at people driving their 4wd trucks and SUVs getting stuck and sliding around in a little itty bit of snow and having to throw chains on all 4 wheels because they are not smart enough to understand the difference between AT tires and snow tires. I do at some point stop to laugh though when they are blocking the whole freaking road because they were to scared to continues on the road and decide to do a U-turn.

      Andreas M if I could like that comment a million time I would. here in Quebec winter tires are now mandatory, and you don't need satistic to realise that under bad weather condition, there is like 10x less cars in the ditch then before the law pass.

      As those think they aren't immune to going out during a heavy snowstorm when those think they could get trough with a Subaru when even they couldn't tell the difference from the surface of the road and the ditch when they do slide into the ditch as after warnings from authorities to stay off the roads.

      @@andreasm2882 I never got stuck in my 2500 Ram 4WD when we got that 30 inches of snow last year it took me 3hrs instead of 1 hr. because everyone was stuck so I had to ride over the grass to get off the highway and go all the back roads.but I never got stuck and the back roads were not even plowed yet.

    Awesome, I just travelled myself through lots and lots of snow with my forester. I also installed Bridgstone Blizzack snow tires which just rock but they do wear down quickly. But I also tested them out on pure ice going 50 mph and the car just came to a stop no slipping or abs was required with those tires. I highly recommend when you have to upgrade to new snow tires. And they are also very quite as well.

    Even the older Subarus with just front wheel drive were amazing in deep snow. Had a 74 wagon in Alaska and 80 hatchback in Minnesota and many times I was the only one operating on the roads. Snow drifts busting over the hood. If it got really bad, I would let a little air out of the front tires for extra grip. Helps to always utilize momentum and the manual box was a definite plus for lugging.

    • @l337pwnage

We had band practice that night and we used her Subaru because of the snow! From Seguin to Canyon Lake there were cars, pickup trucks, semis scattered all over the place but our Outback had no problem!! Practice cancelled cos nobody else could make it so driving back the snow was even deeper and with the Outback-- NO PROBLEM!!!

    I'm on my second outback, have gone through drifts as high as the hood, got each of them stuck once in drifts that high that were longer than I expected, 10-20 feet! Had trouble getting the door open, shoveled just in front of the tires, threw some kitty litter down & drove right out :) they could stand to be a little higher off the ground! Are the new outbacks or foresters higher off the ground? ***LOVE THEM!

    • @snowrocket
      @snowrocket 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +jo braford The tough thing to figure out is WHERE does each manufacturer measure the ground clearance? Near the suspension at the wheels it's less. It's likely more at the floorpan area.

    • @chanceblackheart9098
      @chanceblackheart9098 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Starting in 2010, the outbacks went up to 8.6” ground clearance. Not sure what the newest ones are though. I still plan on putting a 2” lift (front) and 1.5” lift (back) on mine. I plan on pulling people out of ditches so I need a bit more ground clearance.

    Looking forward to my first winter in my 2022 Forester! Loved my 88 Subaru wagon, 91 Legacy, 98 Outback and the 2008 Forester that never left me stranded! Had to buy the 2022 after a moose came out onto the highway and hit my 2008 Forester. It had 444k miles and all indicators that it had an additional 444k miles left to go but it did save my life as I walked away without a scratch, looking back at a very smashed Forester. Sadly the moose didn't make it and it's a good thing I always carry my 9mm with me where ever I go for just such an occasion to put an animal out of it's misery.

    Subarus are very good in the snow - especially the ones with elevated suspensions. I did notice in the video it passed a large Chevrolet SUV that also had been driving in the snow and was parked. Although much bigger, it also is a great car/SUV in the snow. Tires make all the difference in the world however.

    My 2017 handled snow pretty well. Only got stuck once after losing momentum on a hill. But at the same time I could have driven my Honda with snow tires to the same places i drove my subaru with all season tires. It’s not just about going but also about stopping. I can’t count how many stop signs and hills I slid down this past winter lol. That being said even when I had a Forester with new snow tires I still slid down steep hills.
    My only complaint, to be honest, is the amount of snow build up I had this winter. Also for not getting the optional heated wipers/mirrors

    Nice, Nice awesome. I had experience to drive subarus and many of it really strong powerful real all wheel drive. We cleaned up dealership parking lot from the snow and no one subaru need to clean up. They all goes through the snow without any help. And no matter how deep snow. Need just a strong FRONT BUMPER. Right?

    I've been driving for Uber for two years, year round in a 2012 Subaru Forester. I would bet I've sold maybe somewhere between 750 to 1,000 Subaru's in that time. EVERYONE is impressed with it especially in snowstorms where hardly anyone even plows are out. Only got temporarily stuck twice. Rider gets worried as I say "Watch this" as I turn off the traction control and floor it. Leaps out of heavy snow like it's dry pavement on a sunny day. I should ask Subaru for a commission.

  • @taplinger
    @taplinger 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Don't try this with the stock factory-mounted all-season tires - you'll get about 2 feet. These cars are supposed to go in the snow but if you ask about switching the stock tires for all-terrain or snow tires when buying a new Outback at the dealership in Staunton Virginia they're no help at all.

    • @bruceyyyyy
      @bruceyyyyy  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The factory tires are low rolling resistance to aid with MPG. I wouldn't drive on LRR all seasons in the snow with any vehicle.

    • @nicksmith8166
      @nicksmith8166 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +1 to this. As soon as I drove my '15 off the lot, it went straight to Pep Boys and got Continental PureContact tires on all around. Those stock Bridgestones are crap.

    • @taplinger
      @taplinger 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is possible to arrange with a tire dealer beforehand to swap tires - the tire dealer might be 3 miles from the dealership so the factory tires will be good as new. But a helpful dealership could put the stock tires into inventory and put on whatever you want ordered.

      I had no issues driving through deep snow on the freeway and up a steep alley with the all-season bridgestone dueller tires. I actually think winter tires might be overkill.

    Awesome Outback video, thanks. How many miles have you been driving your 2015 Outback, did you have any issues? I m close to buy one, but i have read some forum posts about noises here and there even in the new car, as well as the CVT transmission not shifting when its cold. Maybe you could reply giving me an owners insight, that be awesome. Great vid and driving btw, thumbsup!

    • @bruceyyyyy
      @bruceyyyyy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +wmsbk2k Thanks for watching, and thanks for the thumbs up! I have 18,000 miles (29,000 km) on it now. Have had no issues at all. The CVT is great, it's actually the best automatic I've driven period. You can fool it with throttle changes constantly and quickly, it will get confused and shudder, like it doesn't know what gear it wants to be in, but it's pretty avoidable. In my experience you really have to try to get those conditions. The car behaves slightly different in extreme cold. Around 0F or -17C. It just likes to rev more when it's cold. But once warmed up it will behave normally.
      I'm a moderator over on subaruoutback.org if you want to hop on the forums there and ask some other folk what they think. It's a pleasant crowd.
      By the way, your English is superb!

    • @UselessAlias
      @UselessAlias 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +bruceyyyyy Thanks for your quick answer - about the higher revs due to cold from the CVT, can you bypass that by using the paddle shifters? While this doesnt sound useful concerning engine wear, i have read reports of people crawling on the highway, even after a few miles drive, because the CVT would stick to high revs for way too long even when the engine is on temp already. If i compare theses reports with my own car, also auto trans, i have to say that the higher revs cease like after 1 or 2 min drive. Thx again and best regards!

    • @bruceyyyyy
      @bruceyyyyy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It behaves normally once warmed up, you can override with the paddle shifters in manual mode even when cold. It takes about 10 minutes to get fully warmed up in extreme temps.
      Do you have a link about the highway crawl with the CVT? I keep up with info about them (mostly on the forum I mentioned) but haven't heard about this issue.

    • @UselessAlias
      @UselessAlias 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +bruceyyyyy i m pretty sure it was on www.subaruoutback.org/forums/ but i cant dig it out now since i failed bookmarking it. It was either in the Gen5 or in the issues sections. But if i can override this, then its no issue for me, you either choose to save your engine or drive the gear ratio you desire. Other issues i read about are the already mentioned rattles here and there (tailgate?) and some wind noise probs. Not that you had any, it seems. I am really close buying one, i am xshopping this vs the new BMW x1 (a little small fpr the familiy trip) and vs the Landrover Discovery Sport (good size, but you cant order a sunroof that opens, bit high RL fuel consumption). Hard decision atm :)

    • @bruceyyyyy
      @bruceyyyyy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would test drive them all, see what you're happiest with. I pay more attention to the interior than the exterior (as thats what I'm looking at more often) and highway ride than absolute off road capabilities (as that's where it's going to spend most of it's time, any off road capabilities that still maintain a nice highway ride are a bonus)
      You know what my recommendation is, but I also love all cars/trucks. This one just so happened to win me over if I was going to spend my money on it and not have a poster of it in my man cave.
