  • This historical video of Earthrise Farms, the first US spirulina algae farm, was made in 1983 shortly after Earthrise began operations in the Imperial Valley of Southern California. With several expansions into the 1990s, Earthrise Farms grew into the world's largest spirulina farm on over 40 hectares, with a capacity of over 500 tons of spray dried spirulina powder per year. May 1983 - the year I graduated High School. Aug 1983 - Freshman in college & first time I ever saw a computer in person and it looked almost just like that! Now I’m holding a phone in my hand that probably holds hundreds of times more data than my university’s computer lab that took up the whole floor of the tech classroom building.

      actually, our generation are the ones with the best computers, because we remember what it was like to have slow computers. You generation is the turn key Windows using generation, while my generation grew up with Unix, so we all use Linux and build our own computers :-)

    After rain 🌧️ the water PH decreases. How to maintain that in open pond ?

      they would probably welcome the bird shit - it would provide nitrates.

    why not use vertical farms?

    • @Nobody-11B
      @Nobody-11B 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Arboza liyan that's what I'm wanting to do.
      I'm trying to make a vertical grow platform for home cultivation..
      But the only suitable cylinders would have to be glass and I'm currently unwilling to put that much money into glass.
      Thinking about concrete ponds...

    I am desperate to start cultivating a small spirulina farm for a school project but need a source to get started. Can you recommend a place where I can get a small 15ml sample?

      I ended up here after tumbling down another google rabbit hole researching info on detoxifying from mercury. Scrolled to the comments wondering if I was the only one who thought “Soilent Green”.

    organic farming?

    • @gvxrlole
      @gvxrlole 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Earthrise initially labeled their spirulina products as organic, but in 2005 the USDA no longer allowed previously permitted nitrates to be used during the production process of foods labeled as organic. So Earthrise stopped using the organic labels. Would have made more sense if they'd stopped using nitrates.

    What kind of water are spirulina grown in? Tap water? Clean and purified water?

    • @earthsbounty341
      @earthsbounty341 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably clean because the water needs a PH of 10 in order for Spirulina to grow in optimal conditions and so no contaminants can infiltrate
