The bad guys in the Mulan story was a nomadic people called Rouran that later merged with other nomads to become the Mongols. After the Göktürks, a Turkic people, rebellion, some of the Rourans fled into China, while others are believed to have been pursued by the Turks all the way into the Byzantium Empire. The Rourans have long disappeared as an ethnic group, and are believed to have descendants from Northern China all the way to Eastern Europe.
Actually in the original lore Mulan came from the Northern Wei, which had nomadic roots. Their emperor held the double-titles of "Son of Heaven" and"Khagan". The Xianbei tribe where she was from was famed for their horse-archery. So Mulan fighting for the Kublai's Mongol still kinda make sense.

Consider taking Amani as your first governor in H&L mode; you get a hero reveal automatically with each city state suzerainty. So Amani represents a "free" heroic tale every 5 turns assuming you can get 1 more envoy from either tech, meeting bonus, or quests. The opportunity cost of your first governor title is almost always worth the 2-4 hero reveals you get out of it; especially if you get Himiko or Hercules.

This video just flew by. Excellent gameplay. Also good editing, I think McWhiskey has an editor now or a new one or something, I remember him saying something about that. Anyway, yeah good gameplay and some risks with the early aggression but if you can roll on that first civ early you pretty much are going to win the game in my experience.
I was playing as Kublai, and interestingly enough if you conquer the city you send the trade route to, you get another set of Eurekas, I haven't tried it but this might mean that you can repeatedly conquer a low population city, send a trade route to it, get another set of eurekas, declare war again, repeat.
This is a really great opening game. A challenge to be sure, and one I’m not sure many in this community could’ve done, but you pulled it off and your endgame is looking incredible
Maybe you can get a group of friends, play a multiplayer game, but then halfway through the game, you all save the game, reload it, and swap positions with another player for the second half. Now that would be some chaos
just play a China Khan game. so much fun. played on Prince, but was way too easy, I cant believe Im winning King and Emperor games now. thanks again. The community surrounding Civ6 makes the game that much better. I watch all you guys. im having a blast. great content.
I think if you went into masonry earlier for the battering ram, you would have saved yourself a lot of time against those city walls. You could of bought it in one of the cities you captured.

i dont get wonders like that that take up so many tiles. like they are not workable and they just use up ur tiles as u need to settle next to them to get the benifit am i missing something with them ? its the same for the coco hills in a way they take up loads of space but can never be improved well they kinda can now with the preserve

Mr. Potato, how many times do you usually restart for your recorded games? I know you've mentioned before you do that sometimes, or like in your preserve game stream you mentioned losing due to RNG. So I'm curious how often you essentially get 'dead' games where your start is so bad you can't win, or something completely screws you over before you can really get started when you play on Deity. Is it common or is it pretty rare that you get a start you just can't work with?
I got an insane start with Ethiopia, I started right next to a city state so I got a settler for free turn 1, I found a natural wonder and some really good tile yields... also I got the Great Bath on Apocalypse so I’m insanely OP lol
Not sure if potato is going to see this, but I wish he explained his thought process behind that particular first city settle, it doesn't look that awesome to me. He's way better than me at civ though, don't get me wrong, I'm genuinely curious.

Im currently playing as mongola and managed to take out egypt and scotland before turn 100. Scotland gave me a huge science boost, so i am producing 61 science in 1340 AD. I have such a huge science lead that im working on caravels to explore the seas to continue my conquest.
wow Mongolia seems to have nice perks. I just played my first Sanguine (SANGUINIUS FOREVER FOREVER SANGUINIUS) game and didnt realize the Vamps got stronger for nearby deaths too...even still they got up to 85 or 90 cobat strength and the castles are amazing. Not dying doesnt hurt either.
Would buying a battering ram not been helpful for Ottawa? (know you needed the tech but had the boost). Just wondering as I rely heavily on battering rams in the early game vs walls.

I got the civilian trap bug recently. It was a great engineer surrounded by free cities (dramatic ages) He was basically safe until I moved him though.
I don't understand why you didn't surround Ottowa? It was healing every turn, that must have added at least five more turns of resistance, that would have probably let you skip the pike&shot.
The builder stuck in a free city issue happened to me too yesterday, so it must be a recent bug. It also happened to a great general and a naturalist, so it seems that it happens to any non-military units. The thing is that despite saying the unit can’t move out of the city, it still let me have the unit move out. It’s a rather strange bug.
