    I have the Ani 150 but I’m liking the mini from your testing.

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Scott, I still have a few R150 guns. What I would say is if your R150 is the earlier model, so only has one hole in each air horn you will notice quite a difference between the R150 and R160, if, your R150 has two holes in each air horn, so four in total, you probably won't notice any difference between yours and the R160, although obviously you will if you go with a 1.3 or 1.4 setup as they flow more material.
      The cap is doing OK thanks mate, it still has room to expand, so the knowledge collecting still goes on 😁, cheers Scott ✌️

    I have the 160 and it’s an awesome gun for the money . I recently purchased a lph80 , what a gun with that low air consumption, absolutely love the minimal overspray at home, gonna get another one so I have one for clear and base .

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Mate, The LPH80 is quite a contrast to the ANI R160/Compact. It's excellent for smaller areas and , as you say, has minimal overspray.
      The ANI has a much larger fan, needs more air, and runs at a higher pressure. It's more of an arounder, especially with the new bigger tips sizes, which speed it up and make it more usable for bigger projects.

    great video pete i run a couple of these great little guns i await the comparison videos on the 1.3-1.4 to see whats best

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Grant, when I enquired about the compact, I was advised that 1.3 was the best for most things, SGD only had 1.4 in stock at the time, so I went for that with the 1.3 on backorder.
      That gave me a while with the 1.4, which I was thinking would be a bit ott for the smaller stuff. However, it's been really good.
      I'm a little surprised that the 1.3 and 1.4 pattern is different, that video was literally the first time I had put anything through the 1.3 and looking at the 1.4 pattern it looks wetter and smaller, in use I hadn't noticed that at all.
      The 1.3 and 1.4 definitely flow more material, so speed the guns up with no deterioration in finish, not as far as I could see anyway.
      So 1.2 v 1.3 testing needs to be done as well as 1.3 v 1.4, lots to play with, so it should keep me busy.
      Cheers mate 👍

    A wonderfully thorough video, thank you for going to such an effort with this and your many other videos. I’m still trying to get my head around the Compact vs the R160 and why SGD would have the compact made for them, while also selling the nearly identical R160?

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Mate, good to hear you enjoyed the video.
      I think the reasoning behind it is to give the R160 more bite, to take it a step up, which it does actually do.
      It likes it's air though, so it uses more air than is often quoted, especially for clear coats, I reckon around 6.5 cfm, but it's still not particularly high.
      I have a video to voice and upload that has the 1.2 v 1.3, same panels, everything the same bar the tip, hopefully it will give people a better idea, cheers buddy, much appreciated 👍

      @@peteshobbies5383 Kit arrived, amazingly quick. It never ceases to amazing me how something can be shipped door to door, literally to the other side of world, as fast as it does. I've only used it quickly, to paint a cast aluminium screen door. First impressions weren't that I was holding a super high quality tool. Not meant to be a criticism and it's not like it felt cheap, rather "appropriate" for the price. This job probably the opposite to how a lot of people would want to use the gun, and basically painting with a spot and everything wound right back. It was a delight to use, it felt like a large airbrush, extremely precise and a different world to the previous cheap gun it replaced. Unfortunately my main compressor blew up half way through the work. Of course. I have a second portable compressor and finished things off with that but it definitely wasn't big enough to run even that size gun, so that was frustrating waiting for it to catch up.
      Takeaways for others: Yes I'm definitely very happy with the purchase and would recommend it so far. If anyone was thinking or had heard a small nail gun style compressor could run these guns, can absolutely say that won't. It wasn't even a maybe, even with things would right back. Can recommend Spray Guns Direct and will be looking to purchase another gun(s) from them in future. Hope all this helps

    I got the kit last week. Comes with the 1.3 fitted. No numbers on the air cap. On the nossle it says 1.3 or 1.0 just HSP. Nothing on the needle but it's pretty obvious, which is which. Used the 1.0 yesterday to repaint two wheels, very pleased with the results. My old gun is now in the bin.

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's interesting that there is no numbering on the cap. What sort of pressure did you use it at with the 1.0, I've found the smaller tips you can get away with a lower pressure than the bigger tips, obviously depends on what materials you're spraying as well, cheers Stephen 👍

      Hi, I was spray a gloss black HS 2k, on a 4:1 ratio with a small dash of thinners. Just what felt right . The pressure was 2.5 bar May be a little higher. I know I should be more precise, but it first first time use and on wheels so expected a few issues. However I was majorly impressed and more than happy with the results. May be a while before I use the 1.3 to do a bumper job. Really I like your videos because you are real world and not the fancy “look at my Booth Guys” from whom you learn very little.

      Yeah, I know what you mean about being able to relate to me and what I'm doing , it real life for most of us, we don't have great facilities but as long as we get the results it really doesn't matter.
      I have a mechanical engineering background, so I'm just as interested in how a gun is made and the physical differences as to the performance differences there may be, manufacturers often try and sell us the same thing twice, just badge it differently 😂, cheers mate, let me know how you get on with the 1.3 when you use it 👍

I currently have a small internal leak, but have no idea where it's coming from. I'd like to fully strip down the gun & replace all parts, hopefully fixing the issue. The new caps I have are shaped differently, and I still haven't found out if the newer version of the 1.2, 1.1, etc, are shaped the same.

    Hi Pete, great video mate and a very interesting watch👌I know you've always liked your R160 so you are the ideal person to compare it to the new Compact, TBH I was expecting the Compact setups to use more air than the R160 setups seeing as the Compact is a faster gun or is it all down to the tip sizes🤔what I'm asking here is, are these guns both the same apart from the tip sizes or is there a difference in the air caps apart from the more pointy shape of the airhorns🤔
    I'm wondering if the Compact is an upgrade to the R160 or is it just an alternative🤷‍♂I guess we will have to wait for the actual painting comparison😁 Do you know if the Compact will come with the digital gauge from the Skull Pete, I've been thinking about getting another gun and have the Compact, the new Sagola 4600 or one of the Porphis split tip guns in mind the price isn't a factor but a ANI Compact with the digital gauge would be nearer the top of my list🤔cheers Pete👍

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi John, From what I can find, the 4 setups here use the same amount of air, more or less.
      The Compact isn't an upgrade to the R160. It simply complements the R160 by making it more usable, particularly if people have larger areas to cover or thicker materials to spray.
      I was skeptical as to whether or not I needed one, but having used the 1.4 I totally get the point of having the bigger sizes, hopefully ANI will come out with a 1.8 version one day, the amount of people that ask about a smaller primer gun is unbelievable.
      ANI do make the R160 with reception for their digital gauge, so I'm sure in time with enough enquiries SpraygunsDirect will start to stock them, it's really handy to be able to just twist and swap the gauge over.
      One thing that came out of my conversations with SGD was that the polished silver ANI guns are made exclusively for SGD. You can get a black finish or a matte silver finish from other suppliers but not polished, cheers mate 👍

    • @JohnWD40TC02
      @JohnWD40TC02 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for all the info Pete, it seems that if you have the R160 then getting the Compact would make a great addition and make for a versatile setup or you could just get the Compact tip sets for the R160 making that gun do both jobs🤔
      Sorry mate but I have yet another question for you😁would you say that the Skull is a better made gun compared to the Compact and the R160 and does it spray better🤔I will soon be looking for another gun but want something a bit different🤷‍♂thanks Pete👍

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @JohnWD40TC02 Hi John, Yes, if you have an R160 and want to speed it up or cover larger areas then just buying a tip set would do the trick, the Compact comes with a bigger cup as well so it you wanted that it may be better to get the complete Compact, although the cups are only around 12.GBP so it's still cheaper to buy the parts separately.
      The Skull is the ANI 200 Series, also known as the black, I think they are excellent spray guns, I only have one in 1.3 but for what you get with it as a kit, so cup, detachable digital gauge, 3 caps and obviously the gun it really is excellent value, I don't you'll be disappointed , cheers John 👍

    Do you think 45 to 50 psi makes a finer flatter finish with clearcoat

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Mate, most definitely, I've had many people contact me over the last few years who have been disappointed with the finish they are getting from there R160s, when I ask them about pressure they are normally around 29psi, when I've recommended more pressure they have said the finish is much better, it depends on the clear, thin MS clears around 44psi is ok, for HS clears I recommend 49 to 50psi.
      It does use more air, but it's worth it. You can get some great finishes with it. Cheers, buddy 👍

    1.3 pattern looks top heavy,,,is that a defect

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Buddy, it's rarely a defect if a pattern is slightly off. It is much more about pressure and material viscosity.
      If a pattern is top or bottom heavy, it will normally be the pressure is too high for the viscosity of the materials.
      Since doing this video, I've used the 1.3, along with the 1.4, and with an HS clear coat at 3.5 bar, the pattern and results are excellent.
      For Base Coat, I recommend 2.5 bar as the material is a lower viscosity, and generally, with too high pressure, the patern will distort and application will be too dry, hope that helps, cheers 👍

      @ferncottageardentinny Hi buddy, yeah, that's the pressure I use and recommend, you can use lower for basecoat but not really for clear, that's why I say it's air consumption is around 6 to 6.5 cfm, because it needs the pressure, its a really good gun overall but it does like its pressure, cheers buddy 👍

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi buddy, I think the idea is to market it a little differently, so it comes with a larger cup and bigger tips than is available with the R160.
      When I first spoke to SpraygunsDirect they were completely open about the fact it's the same gun as the R160, but comes with a choice of bigger tips, and, as I say, the larger cup as standard.
      I guess you have to call it something so Compact seems as good a name as anything.
      What I like, as in your case, you already have an R160, so now there are more setups available to speed the gun up or for thicker materials, so it's giving more choices to the people that already have the R160, which can only be good.
      Cheers mate, appreciate the comments 👍
