    @squirrel FYI, Avionics master should stay off until after ignition. The startup can damage electronics in rare cases. Almost all C172 checklists have it as an item post-start. Cheers...

    Paul, believe it or not when you are learning to fly you are taught to turn on the avionics master after starting the engine to avoid any possible surges to the "sensitive" electronics. Applies to most smaller Cessna aircraft (172,182 etc) :)

    Hey Squirrel when starting the Cessna the easiest is to set mixture to full, and crack the throttle (open 2mm) and then start the engine. Following the start the POH recommends
    1. Set RPM to 1000
    2. Check oil pressure is in the green within 30seconds
    3. Check ammeter is charging
    4. Set mixture for taxi (done by reducing mixture after the peak a drop will be seen, from the drop increase mixture 3mm or so careful not to kill the engine)
    5. Do a magneto dead cut (this is debated among pilots whether it's good or bad)
    6. Flaps now come up (usually put down for preflight inspection and to protect battery lifted once engine is running)
    7. Radio instruments (including transponder to stby until on runway) come on now (as said in other comments to protect from surges in starting
    8. Check circuit breakers are not popped
    Then your ready to go

    Fun fact....
    When Airbus started flying their planes (I think it was the A318/319?) into London City, they had to actually rewrite the entire flight control system to deal with the 5.5 degree descent into the airport.
    So now you know. Also, IIRC that 5.5 is still the world's steepest approach as of this year into any airport...though correct me if I'm wrong, I just remember reading that somewhere that it was even steeper than Kathmandu's approach or Tincontin's spiral and dive, or even the spiral diving approach into Ben Gurion airport.

    I remember playing XPlane 8 and downloading a Kenworth. I drove from my local airport to where about my house would be. Granted, it was no ATS/ETS, as the AI and roads don't expect you to use them and you steered with the rudder, but to roleplay flying from a big city to my regional airport and driving home was a cool experience.

    The "MI5 building" at 17:24 actually belongs to the Secret Intelligence Service (what used to be MI6) - movie watchers may remember it from some of the more recent Bond films (it gets blown up twice, once in both The World is Not Enough and a second time, more seriously, in Skyfall).

    OSM is not a tool for X plane. Its a map database.
    The tool I think its called World2Xplane. What that does is grab the 3D bulding vectors from OSM (OpenStreetMaps) and using a big library of 3D models, it places these models about where the real beuildings would be located IRL.
    The dev himself is a great guy!

    This game is GORGEOUS

  • @horacelee8384
    @horacelee8384 8 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    As a student pilot in real world, I think Paul can do better.
    I know he is not professional.
    Flying a Cessna is very different from a big aircraft.
    Most of the time, we focus on what we see outside, not the instruments.
    We start the engine will richest mixture.
    Also, we always use full throttle while climbing.
    For the landing, he is too early to flare and too late to idle the engine.
    He should forget how to fly a big aircraft while flying a Cessna, especially during Landing.
    Here are something I want to share about landing a Cessna.
    Just before it touch the ground, we pull the yoke to the as back as we can.
    The aircraft will then touch the ground vert smooth.
    This is a small and slow aircraft, we can do a better landing because we usually do not need to care about the breaking distance, unlike big aircraft.
    I know this is just a game but I think something should be done more seriously.
    However, as a non-pilot, he had done very well.
    Keep Going.
    If I wrote something wrong or not accurate, please point them out.
    I also want to learn more.

      +Squirrel I'm a huge FAN!!!!!!!

    • @blub77
      @blub77 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Concerning the mixture setting on start-up it's different with fuel injection engines (like in the C172S). You prime it with the mixture on rich and then start it with mixture in cut-off, otherwise it will inject additional fuel during starting and flood the engine. Once the engine fires you slowly advance the mixture to full rich.
      Regarding the landing technique to pull back on the yoke as much as possible, this also only applies to older Cessna aircraft - the new C172S have a different behaviour on the flare and quite many other aircraft as well.
      What I noticed in this video and also the DTG Flight Sim videos is that Squirrel is fixiating very much on the Vertical Speed Indicator on landing those small aircraft, which is something not done "in real life". Most VSI in those small aircraft are just VSI and not Instantaneous, hence they will show you a trend but it will take between 10-20 seconds before they will display the correct rate of climb/descend. A good landing approach is defined by the correct approach speed and the correct visual picture.
      Greetings from a flight instructor ;)

  • @SIMCFI
    @SIMCFI 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just some pointers: You'll want avionics off during start and shutdown to protect the electronics. The fuel pump is only for starting or purging the lines in case of fuel vapor lock. When landing, shoot for 60-65 knots short final and cut the power when crossing the threshold (roughly).
    I've got a GA Flight Training playlist on my channel if you or anyone else really wants to get into GA flying. Right now all the videos are directed at the 172 (A2A/P3D side of the house, but a 172R is a 172R). More videos in the future will feature other GA aircraft and eventually IFR in GA aircraft. It can be quite different from the airlines!
    I love X-Plane 10 and I agree with you, it deserves some love. Would really like to see ORBX/A2A/PMDG develop for X-Plane. (I know PMDG actually started down that road finally)

    As a reccomendation, if you are planning to do passenger services a good freeware aircraft is EADT's X737. There is currently no 3D cockpit version (although I believe that it is due for release this month). I have access to the beta 3D cockpit version and it gives PMDG a run for its money.

    Hey mate, if you're looking for a flying challenge, get the Dreamfoil Bell 407 and do this flight in it. Extremely detailed helicopter model, probably the best in X-Plane (even all the circuit breakers work) and it would allow you to take more time looking around the place.

    Please make more videos like this using proper commercial airliners to really show case the simulator and maybe do a show of all default planes in the game and what quality they are, just a suggestion but really enjoyed the video!

    The London Heathrow payware addon is now part of the default X-Plane installation since the latest update.

    Can you make a video from Norway on X-plane? Maybe from the area around Bergen, like Hardanger
