    Great see someone using a left hand bait caster, should be more of it. Exactly as you explained.👍

    • @blay7263
      @blay7263 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Why should there be more of it? People should reel on whatever side they're most comfortable with.

    • @robpaterson5274
      @robpaterson5274 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@blay7263 you're right. But until recently people who like casting right handed and wind left handed have had very limited choice in baitcasters. Casting right handed and having to change hands to retrieve never made sense to me, however others enjoy double handling their rods.

    • @mihaiad86
      @mihaiad86 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@robpaterson5274 you have choices, all my 3 baitcasters are with the handles on the left side, and i always use my right hand to cast, so the rod never leaves my hand. I did not find any problem in getting them. I have an Abu Revo X for the big baits, Gunki thg 200, and a Gunki BG200 for smaller lures. I live in Europe, so maybe this is why i find them easily.

    The first time I threw a buzz bait I thought no self-respecting bass is going to hit this noise making lure. At about that same moment a nice size bass came out from under some brush along the bank and swallowed that lure. Not only was that fish hooked but so was I. Enjoy watching your videos. And your Bible verses. God bless you!

      I hate bait casting systems! They can tangle way too easily. I don't like the feel of them. I'm happy sticking with Open-faced spinning systems, especially if they're Shakespeare systems!

    I have tried that little pond once with tiny fish. That back pond is so grown up and the warehouse to the south of it keeps blocking off their driveway when 20th St was closed. I have seen that little dirt trail but not changed it yet. Not been over there since back in early spring to look it over. Good job again John. Those good ponds are awesome. My biggest lake bass has been just over 5lb, but I have caught a 9lb bass in a pond and then the next 2 casts I caught back to back 5 pounders. The pond where I was is not near as productive now and the grass is growing crazy. After a couple cold spells and the grass slacks up you can cast without getting 5 lbs of grass on your lure. Life cycle of ponds is weird

    Grats on the new PB! You picked a great baitcasting combo to start with. I have the first generation Mach 1 combo and it can cast a mile. The dual brakes help curb backlash. My friend has the same philosophy as you about choosing a left hand reel. I use right handed baitcasters because I am right handed. At least that’s what I thought was the reason to pick it when I was first starting.

    Great bass, I have the 7'2 mh mach I with 50lb braid, love it for top water and heavier lures but anything light can be a pain. For my soft plastics and weightless senkos I use 12-14lb fluro. I've started choking up on the rod, 2 fingers in front of the finger grip and 2 behind it with my thumb always on the spool. Took some getting use to but the rod is more balanced and you have more control when a fish is on.

  • @greenwoodsbushhogging6704
    @greenwoodsbushhogging6704 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Frogs are a royal pain to fish for me. I've found that a high rod tip helps with the "pause" before the hook set. As soon as the hit drop the rod towards them. Reel till you feel the weight and jerk straight up to pin them hooks in. Or just use a buzz bait.

    Congrats on that big bass! Us old timers who've been using baitcasters since the 1960s still get an occasional backlash. Baitcasters seem more sensitive to me than spinners, they're more compact and with proper thumb control are more accurate on the cast.

    Congrats on the big 6! Yes, those Baitcasters are a pain with a light lure and/or a wind blowing in your face. I use them when throwing something heavy like a jig and trailer, when throwing larger buzzbaits, chatterbaits, big flukes. Now I have a whole collection of Baitcasters. They still make me mad sometimes. Spinning reels are way more flexible but if you need a super fast retrieve the 9.1:1 Baitcasters are awesome and keep you from wearing your shoulders off. I have 2 bad shoulders and I have to lather up with Voltaren Gel on them before I go and hammer the ibuprofen. A 4.3:1 ratio spinning reel will fatigue those shoulders faster. Shoulders injured initially from working on some seized bolts. Have to get steroid shots in them every 3 months or have no life.
    YOU WILL ENJOY A RIGHT HANDED BAITCASTER BETTER THAN THAT LEFTY. THAT THING WAS MOVING ALL OVER IN YOUR HAND. GET A RIGHTY AND CUP THE REEL AND ROD IN YOUR LEFT HAND ON RETRIEVE AND WIND WITH YOUR RIGHT HAND. YOU HAVE WAY BWTTER LEVERAGE THAT WAY. CAST WITH RIGHT HAND BUT USE LEFT HAND GRAB FAR BOTTOM END OF POLE AND HELP REALLY FLING THAT LURE OUT THERE. FLING THE RIG HARD AND USE YOUR THUMB TO SLOW IT DOWN. TWIST THE ROD TO THE LEDT AS YOU THROW. SOMETHING ABOUT THAT ROTATIONAL FORCE NOT WANTING TO TURN FROM SPINNING VERTICAL TO SPINNING HORIZONTAL HELPS CONTROL THE CAST BETTER JUST LIKE A WHEEL ON A BICYCLE WANTS TO KEEP THE BIKE UPWRIGHT

  • @billtackett8217
    @billtackett8217 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'm right-handed and retrieve exclusively with my left (like you) so I can have my strong arm to fight the fish. Dudes retrieving "righty" (from what I understand) prefer to reel the fish in faster with their strong hand(?)

    That bass was a monster. So awesome. Congrats. I prefer an open face reel. I hardly ever have trouble with them snagging. But I have been fishing with family members who shall remain nameless in case they see this and spent most of my day picking snags out of their lines. Right Rich? lol. That's one of my sons. I don't know why but I'm really good at untangling line and necklaces. Happy fishing.

    I like using a baitcaster mostly for Carolina rigged worms. My favorite way to fish for bass on a hard bottom.
