Some tips, make sure you pre-heat it, oil the cooking surfaces, after you add the egg, cook for a minute and a half, then add the top muffin and cook another minute to a minute and a half. Leaving the egg to cook a bit first before adding the top bread decreases the cooking time so the bottom doesn't overcook. And as you stated, add the cheese after the sandwich is done cooking. Make several on theweekend, wrap each tightly in plastic wrap and freeze for future use. Remove from plastic, wrap in paper towel andmicrowave 90 seconds or so, depending on how strong your microwave is. Very convenient for weekdays.
I feel like the cheese would do a lot better added directly to the bottom bun. Then it would melt into the bread instead of sliding off a piece of meat and burning to the edges. Bet it would make a great texture too.
Yes. That's how you should do it. I have this device and if you put the cheese on top of the meat, it will not stick to the egg. It just slides right off.
I have one of these, and cheese directly on top of the bottom bun is definitely the way to go. Also preheat longer, cook for 4 minutes, and the egg doesn’t leak. Cheese on bottom bun also produces a sandwich that doesn’t slide around as much. I usually just plug it in as soon as I decide I want breakfast then start grabbing the stuff.
I love my breakfast sandwich maker. A few tips I have found: 1. I scramble my egg first, it cooks up into a nice egg disk. 2. I use half a slice of cheddar cheese per sandwich. It melts, but is not all gooey. 3. I don't add the cooking oil at the pre-heat. Once pre-heated I add the bottom muffin, sausage, and cheese, then lower the ring and spray with cooking spray just before adding the egg and top muffin. 4. I have the double sandwich maker, and make up 6 sandwiches at time. They refrigerate or freeze nicely in a sandwich bag. I refrigerate them so I have them for the week, and then microwave them for a minute...perfect.
I bought the double for my son who was in college. He loved this. He sold versions of the egg McMuffin in the dorms when they were up studying. Kept him in spending money plus he always had enough money to buy his McMuffin supplies.
I've had the double version for a couple of years, and really like it. I often make several sandwiches at a time (to cut down on cleanup), and bag them for heating up in the microwave later. No complaints about that either.
add the cheese to the bottom of the bun so that the meat touches the bottom of the egg tray. This means the cheese wont melt as fast from touching the griddle. Also use deli sliced cheese or thicker slices so it doesn't liquify.
Or if you want to use the thinner slices or American cheese, which melts easily, just add it immediately after you bring the sandwich out, and let it melt a little while the sandwich cools.
These are dope! A few things that could help: Shredded cheese is easier to melt but I normally fold the edges inward and put it at the bottom bun if I'm using square cheese. Smaller eggs tend to work better, but you can lightly press the lid for a quick minute for larger eggs and it won't bleed over as much if at all. Hope this helps!
Egg McMuffins, like he's making, are made with square cheese though. So your first tip (which is really one of a couple, not one of a few) doesn't help as much.
@@Dyanosis , why do you think the shape of the cheese matters? The first tip is helpful, and it's about preference too. Shredded helps keep the sandwich neat, and taste the same (or close to) an Egg McMuffin.
I had one of these for about 5 years and used it quite often. A few tips that i learned over that time is use grated cheese instead of American. Also the top plate is not big enough to hold a large egg and english muffin most of the time so the egg squeezes out the sides. I also did not like how crisp the top english muffin gets. My final solution for everything was put a muffin in the bottom with some grated cheese and then a sausage patty. Add the egg to the top plate break the yolk and set the timer for 4.5 minutes. After 3.5 minutes the egg is cooked so i add the other half of the muffin for the last minute so it heats through.
This is what I do as well. I didn't like that the egg and the top muffin become fused into a single thing. The texture is kind of strange because the egg soaked into the bread and then cooked. If you wait a little while to add the top muffin and the cheese, it comes out better.
@@meandmyEV Totally agree! The only thing that sucks down here is the sausage patties. The Johnsonville sausage patties are not sold here anymore and the Walmart patties are bland since they changed the ingredients at the end of 2022. I have started making my own now with A.C. Legg's seasoning. Their stuff is awesome!
I do want to say that although he does use 3 different items to make his breakfast sandwich you can just cook all 3 items for this sandwich in one pan at the some time especially if you are using a ring mold.
@@Bud3236 I make my own bread rounds, use Taylor Pork Roll (don't like Canadian bacon) and shredded cheese on the bottom bread round makes the sandwich much neater.
I've had an older HB version of this for quite a few years now. While I don't use it very often these days, I have to say it has always worked flawlessly. I would usually make a second while the first cooled down. (On a side note, I requested Cathy and Rachel try it a long time ago. Check out their review)
Same here. I used to use one in my office instead of picking up the unhealthy stuff from fast food restaurants in the morning. I haven't used it in a long while, but will likely pull it out because it does very well.
We take waffles seriously in our house th-cam.com/users/postUgkxUfphIgghPSpAXNq6OG2WRYsFVqylcqMn and worked our old one through many years of Sunday brunches till it finally gave out on us. Our old one only made two at a time, this one makes four! Nicely sized 1 inch thick which are lovely! Now the kids don't have to wait as long to eat our weekly waffle breakfast and everyone's are hot if we wait and eat all together! Setting 3 seems to work perfect for golden brown. Be sure to pour the batter in the center of each waffle square, not the center of the iron like the novice that posted the scorched waffles photo. About a 1/4 to 1/3 cup of batter in each seemed to work well for us. We tested making just one at a time so we could use all the remaining batter and it made it just as fluffy and golden as when we made 4!
I have the double version and love it! I will wait until it's done before adding the cheese to prevent it from oozing out. Also, the bottom muffin gets too hard for my liking, so I lightly moisten the bottom before cooking so the bread gets toasty but still keeps a bit of softness. You can also season the egg with salt and pepper before adding the top piece of bread.
I got this thing for $5 at a thrift store and honestly of all the "gimmicky" items out there, this one is absolutely fantastic. Super easy to use and clean. Well worth the $5 I spent and use it A LOT.
You could use the same pan for the canadian bacon, egg, cheese, and muffin, all at the same time. I do 2 sandwiches at a time on a 12 inch cast iron frying pan. It takes some placement, but once you get used to where to put everything it works flawlessly.
Use a small egg, put timer on 4 minutes and fold cheese over twice to make a nice little square. Add to bottom, great suggestion (previous poster... ty). That is what I will do.
This model usually gets as inexpensive as $20 at Walmart in August with all of the other little dorm sized kitchen appliances. I’ve been SO curious but didn’t want to buy until I saw you test one. Now I can’t wait til August!
This newer version with the timer is $35 at the Target in my area, Walmart doesn't even carry it. The local Walmart clearances out the older model and didn't restock.
Had this machine (older version no display) for a few years and I found it works great. Big thing is keeping the sliding part firmly pressed closed. I have not had any egg leak out that way. Also my version advised to put the cheese on top of the egg then place top bun on and close. Works great cheese melts into top bun perfectly. Thanks a ton for doing these reviews!!! Much appreciated and love when you team up with your son for taste reviews.
I just ordered it in red! So excited! My only problem with breakfast sandwiches is they only serve them until 10:30! I work at a restaurant and am allergic to mornings!😆
The cutoff sucks and most McDonalds have stopped serving all day breakfast. I work 8-5 but I like to sort of combine breakfast and lunch into a single meal as I don't usually wake up hungry. The regular McMuffin with Canadian bacon is actually one of the less "bad for you" items they sell at McDonalds. I lost 50 pounds a few years ago and I had the regular McMuffin 3-4 times a week for breakfast. The problem is having the self control to not order a hash brown.
I've had my Hamilton Beach for just over 10 years and it still works great. I use to put English muffins in it but I changed it up. I get 2 pieces of Texas bread and use the circles from the Hamilton Beach unit to cut out the bread. Then I put one slice of the bread on the bottom, then cheese and then the ham or bacon. Lower the first ring and then add the egg and lower the top and wait about 30 to 45 seconds and then add the 2nd piece of Texas bread. I don't spray the unit before using and nothing sticks and it cleans up really easy. Thanks for the video.
I just purchased this a week ago and used it for the first time this evening after watching the video. Not a single egg drip. 😀😀. I made sure to spray the egg surface after it was preheated and I dripped the egg very slowly onto the surface to give it time to immediately sizzle and stick to the surface and that may have helped. This review was very helpful so I didn't have to read the instructions thank you so much 😀😀
I have one of these and I use it all the time and enjoy it very much. My only complaint is it doesn't have an off on switch. I would give it high marks and maybe in the future order one that makes two sandwiches.
I started with the single unit. Found out I really liked it and since I eat 2 sandwiches, I bought the dual unit. I also bought an on/off switch. It was about 5 bucks on Amazon.
I have the older model without the timer. Been using it for a few years now, on most weekdays. It's starting to show its age in that the non-stick coating is starting to flake off of the ring assembly. Particularly the separator plate. The hinge is also getting a bit loose. Still, I love this thing! I was chuckling at this video, and saying he needs help with his technique! 😁😁 1) Use a deli slice cheddar or other harder cheese. Trim the corners and fold them over into a double thick smaller square of cheese. 2) Cheese goes under the meat. 1 & 2 will help with excessive cheese melting. 3) Make sure the separator plate is fully in place before putting the egg in, then give 5 or 10 seconds to set before putting in the top bun. This will eliminate or greatly reduce the spillage. Also, I spray the avocado oil onto a paper towel, then wipe that onto the cooking surfaces after the unit heats up. Spraying it on directly before heating seems messy to me.
I've had one of these for years, and never had the egg spill out, which makes me wonder if their newer models aren't exactly an improvement. I also learned, after the very first sandwich, never put the cheese on while it's still in the rings lol What a mess. I always put it on as soon as I take it out. There's plenty of heat in there to melt it by the time you take your first bite. It's such a convenience when you're getting ready for work in the morning though. No need to watch over it. Set the timer for 5 minutes and go on to make your coffee or whatever. Love it.
I have the double version, and we love it. I use all sorts of different shapes and sizes of bread too. I used to cut them into circles, but I don't bother anymore. You can just cram them in there and it works just fine. I don't have quite as big a problem with my cheese, possibly because I only cook mine about 4 mins and I don't use processed cheese slices. We've had ours for years and it has held up perfectly.
@@GreenDudeHC If you wait for the egg to set up a little bit, which kind of seals up the cracks, before you put the bread on and close the top, it does reduce the leaking. Also, just lightly setting the top down and not trying to press it all the way flush helps, since it won't squeeze out any egg.
I have the original sandwich maker which doesn’t have the built in timer. I think this is a great product and I really like it! If you cook your sandwich for 4 minutes it’ll still be good, and the bottom won’t get burned. I’ve noticed that you will get some egg spillage but it’s not a big deal to me. I also add the cheese once I remove the sandwich from the machine - once the sandwich is cool enough to eat, the cheese has the right amount of melty-ness! Also, for better results don’t use the individual wrapped cheese. Use the higher quality ones like from Sargento or Tillamook or from the deli counter.
I have had mine for at least 7 years now. It is the older version but I have always thought it was the best little appliance I bought in a long time. Mine never makes a mess like yours did lol. I do only use half a slice of cheese, and I tear that half in half. My never melts out like yours did. I also use a frozen sausage patty, (thin ones) works fine.
I like the idea of this product, but i would just add the cheese after the sandwich is finished cooking. It will help the sandwich cool faster and the cheese won’t get too melted!
I've had one of these for years and still use it from time to time. Yes, leave the cheese until the end and I like to stir the egg with a popsicle stick.
I have the original model of this item (Without all the lcd screens and buttons) I think I paid $15.95 for it years ago and it still works great. Never had an issue with it at all. Sandwiches alway came out great.
I have pne of those. I let it preheat until the green light is on, and use the spray oil. Also as you put the egg, let it set a little, as there is a gap between the edges of the plate and ring. If you let it heat for the proper amount of time, the egg white will set pretty fast and won't spill out. I also use a spreadable cream cheese with onion and chives, it heats up but doesn't get all gooey.
I like the way you did it with 2 pans and the toaster a lot better. This device isn't toasting both sides of the muffin which is crucial for texture, and this would also allow me to butter the muffins for even more flavor. Can't see how many slots your toaster has but it could be possible to whip up a few sandwiches at once.
I just bought mine and have used it twice now, and that too is my complaint. I feel like the top of the egg is uncooked. The english muffin is only toasted on the outside. And my Canadian bacon doesn't get toasted either. I'm not yet convinced that I will like this long term? 🤔
I got the same thing from HB except it makes 2 sandwiches - side by side. Mine doesn't leak or anything like the video. Maybe the tightened the tolrances for the side by side version. Also I've found you can just bend each corner of the cheese slice inwards towards the center and it works just fine. No need to cut it.
Just bought my second one because I wore the first one out. I make low-cal “egg McMuffins” for my dieting husband. Use light English muffin, one egg, low-fat American cheese, and one slice of Canadian bacon. About 250 calories. He loves them. Easy to clean, too.
When you said low-cal I was like, is that a fancy word for local or does it have something to do with California. Took a minute to realize you meant low calorie 🤣
Well my mom lives with us and since she is in her mid 90s we did not build stovetop burners into her kitchenette. So I bought her one of these but she was ambivalent about using it. Thanks for the video! She is going to try it now that she has seen it is easy to use and makes good sandwiches.
This is practically a nostalgia item, for me. My father-in-law had an older version of this thing, which he called the "Egg McMuffin Machine," and I thought it was awesome. My wife (then girlfriend) wouldn't let me buy one. When we got married, my father-in-law gave us one as a gift, trumping my wife's concerns. We used to make a lot of early morning road trips, and I'd often get up a little earlier than necessary and make a couple of sandwiches for on the road. It became something of a tradition. We didn't really use the machine much outside of early morning road trips, as it was almost as easy to just make a proper breakfast on the stove, but we really enjoyed it for those occasions. When our unit finally died, we didn't replace it, but I'll always have fond memories of the HB "Egg McMuffin Machine".
I had an older version of this when I was in college and used it daily. I did the same with the cheese though, I'd leave it off and add the cheese after I took the sandwich out. I'd just lift the bun with the meat side and put the cheese on it. It was still hot enough to melt it but not hot enough to melt it right off. I do still have it but don't use it very often. I'd still highly recommend it though.
think i'll stick to my pan on the stove with a $3 egg ring from walmart. I like to toast a bagel in my air fryer for 3 minutes as i fry the egg, perfect every time and almost no mess. btw, with a large pan like you used, you could probably heat the ham in the pan as you cook the egg, thus saving having to wash 2 pans
Have one of these and totally love it! My issue is I used it every day for about 4 months and got burnt out. Now I need to dig it back out. For the ham, honey baked, the sugars of the honey come out and add so much more flavor. Easy to clean up afterwards, never had an issue with it. I never punctured the egg.
Love how you say it's Canadian bacon.😀 It is simply called "back bacon" here in Canada, where "Canadian bacon" is traditionally unsmoked back bacon that has been sweet pickle cured and coated in yellow cornmeal. It comes from the pork loin of a pig. It looked like you put a piece of ham on that breakfast sandwich.
@Lisa Surname - Another Canadian here. Lived in Florida for 3 yrs and it took awhile to get comfy with the "Canadian Bacon" name for back bacon. To us it sounds like they think we call it "bacon" but they know that's not the case. They know that is just what they call it, not us.
Two things I do that fix problems in the video. Let it preheat beyond when the green light comes on. The middle part get hotter so the eggs will start cooking in contact and not leak. I break the corners off the cheese so it fits better. I put two corners below the meat, the middle part above the meat and two corners above the egg.
We’ve owned one for several years and it’s become a camping must have for us. We like it so much - bought the double :-). Delicious, but a bit of messy clean up.
This thing looks like a hassle to clean imo. Bought for 4$ at walmart a simple size egger container with lid for the microwave, takes a fast second to clean it out, n nice n compact for the rv. Lol 🍻
I meal prepped my version of the starbucks egg and gouda breakfast sandwich and I have to say that when I do that again this product would cut the process from 1 hour and half to 35 minutes for 7-8 sandwich's to 35 or 40 minutes if it is 5 mins per sandwich to cook. This is going to be my next kitchen investment, also for anyone wondering how to make that sandwich with the Hamilton breakfast sandwich maker. I would add the cheese. on top before the top piece of bread so it comes out gooie like in the third sandwich in the demo video and enhances the taste of the egg and bacon as you bit into it.
I put mine in the toaster and cook turkey bacon on the bottom plate. It adds a few extra minutes but it's worth getting everything crispy instead of steamy.
I have a large square cast iron pan. I can cook 2 eggs and 2 slices of pork roll (not Taylor ham lol) at the same time in about 5 minutes. I usually just use bread and I don't generally care for it toasted. Not for me but I can see how this would be useful I guess.
I used to have one of these. I got rid of it. So much easier to do it all in a single pan. First I toast the muffins in the pan, then I cook the sausage. Then the egg. Then I assemble it all. Clean up is so easy.
I have bought many kitchen gadgets from your videos and this one did not disappoint me. The one I ordered did not have a timer but nothing Alexa could not handle. I used real cheese slices, and it was flawless. I had to comment because it seemed too weird to work but it worked, and easy to clean as well.
I had one of these. I would always use grated cheddar and put it right on the bottom muffin/bun, or sometimes even wait until it was done and add the cheese after. I would also sometimes leave the top muffin/bun out until the egg was partially cooked so it didn't soak up the egg, but that's not a big deal.
You guys want, but i’m going make myself - hahaha i got similat model with square shape (for tost bread) & I love it. Important is order: bread, chees, ham; slide on top egg and bread. I nevear had leak of chees and any mess!
I've been using this for years. I have the one without the timer. If you let it heat up for about 3 minutes past when the green light comes on, the egg usually wont run out. Also I put the egg in a small bowl first and stir it with a fork to blend it together better. After the sandwich is done, I add the cheese. I don't use the 'processed cheese food' used in this video though. I use deluxe cheese or cheddar. It tastes better and it doesn't melt all over as bad.
I have one of these for years I love it but there are a few tricks one you want to make sure the divider is set just right not to spill any egg also do not use anything larger than a large egg. 2 cook the egg thoroughly before adding the top muffin or else the muffing will soak into the egg I have done it with bagels too
Thanks for this review, I just ordered one using your link. I think I would fold the cheese corners in to help eliminate the meltover, and I would butter the insides of the muffin too ;)
Yeah, I don't know why you'd use separate pans. I got one of these and I find it more trouble than it's worth. A simple egg ring a pan and a toaster and I don't have to pre-cook sausage, etc. This machine doesn't save any time or money and takes up space and you have to jump through so many hoops to get things to turn out right. The key to the leaky eggs is just to keep that center section hot my keeping the two heating plates in contact until just before you are ready to add the egg.
I just purchased one of these after the Christmas break and received it in the mail yesterday. Mine is black and doesn’t have a timer on it. It does have the red and green lights where when I plugged it in the red light was on to indicate the unit was preheating. Then after a few minutes the red light went off and the green light came on. After loading it up and after about five minutes the green light went off. It must be a different model of the same machine by the same company. A pretty good sandwich on my first try. When cleaning I discovered a little cheese had leaked onto the bottom cooker and a little in the back where all the hinges come together. Easy clean up. Only thing, i need to add a meat. I know I can buy frozen precooked sausage but I don’t eat pork. Maybe turkey sausage or something. I’ll be using this thing a lot!
I love this thing. I have this one and eventually got the double one. Has worked flawlessly nearly ever use. As others have said you should definitely be putting the cheese on top of the bottom muffin (I think it mentions this in the manual) and also I always use real cheese and have never had a problem. Kraft Singles melt to fast and don’t taste as good. From what I’ve seen, it takes about 4.5 minutes to cook through if you put the ingredients on immediately after it’s done preheating, but after a few minutes of being pre-heated if you start your sandwich at that point it will cook the same in 1 - 1.5 minutes less.
My daughter’s fiancé who lives with us has one. He makes breakfast sandwiches for the five of us every once in a while. He uses sausage patties. It takes a bit of preparation and cleanup is a bit more than a one pan method. I can make them in a pan with an egg ring, and toaster in about half the time and cleanup is a bit quicker. I don’t personally see an advantage but I’ve been cooking since I was a kid. It’s mostly in the process.
It's an interesting idea but I think that it's much less messy and less to clean if you just use a pan. American cheese melts in about 10 seconds so adding it in the end is a good idea. If you go to any Salvation Army or Goodwill, you will see at least two or three of those on the shelf.
my friend has one and he brings it with him on deep sea fishing trips. he also is a painter and brings it with him on his jobs. there is no reason to use 2 pans as you did. you can easily put 2 eggs and 2 either ham or sausage in the same pan at the same time. you can also put 2 english muffins in the toaster at the same time.
I do not have this product, but just a idea to try,... When adding the cheese might want to put it in the bottom of the egg section. Or maybe on top the egg under the top bun... For my sandwich press I found I gotta use half a slice of cheese.
I have one. I use shredded sharp cheddar and I don't think it liquifies quite as much as american. The main thing I do different is let the egg cook and solidify a little before I add the top bun. I don't have egg running out - maybe adding the bun later is why, or maybe I use more cooking spray and it seals the gaps?
I have one of these and I do like it. I have also customized my method of sandwich making. I like to place the muffin top in the bottom. Fold the cheese fit and place it next. Then I place the meat. Close up the bottom section then put in the egg then the muffin bottom. I also like to cut the cook time to 4 minutes as I like a little runny yolk.
I have the older version, but I love mine. I cook the egg first on the top tray, then come back and add the muffin, meat and cheese, but I pull out the middle section so it all cooks together. I also use shredded cheese. Hardly any mess. I'm on my second one.
I use a pancake griddle for many things I cook. Eggs, hash browns sausage and pancakes. I would cook egg/sausage on griddle and use a 4 slice toaster to control the crispness of the bread. Cheese will melt of the griddle and all ingredients will be hot and or crispy.
I’ve had one of these for awhile now. If you put the cheese on the muffin first and then the meat you don’t lose the cheese and it’s much easier to clean up. I tear the cheese and place the two pcs so it covers the muffin without touching the sides of the grill. Works every time.
I ought mine a long time ago. I use it off and on but I preheat it so that the egg doesn’t run. If you use egg whites or some egg substitute then I’ve had it run. Nice review.
I have this exact model and I find it best if u add the cheese after u remove it from the device while u wait for it to cool a bit there enough heat to melt the cheese perfectly
I have this and it makes perfection cooked breakfast sandwiches every time with little to no mess. ... As mentioned already, the cheese goes on the bun before the meat. If using square cheese slices. Just fold and tear into 4 pieces and place overlapping within the bottom bun. Also, found scrambling the egg in a little pour cup works best. Pour in slowly from the middle and it won’t leak. Being more dense with the yoke blended it doesn’t leak out like the whites do. Also, this thing makes awesome taco bowls using street taco sized tortillas 👍
I have the dual maker. Never had a problem with egg running out the sides. But I don't make sandwiches much with it anymore. Nowadays I use it to easily cook just the eggs. I can cook 4 eggs at a time with it in under 4 minutes (I set the timer for 3.5). Just put the egg where the bottom piece of bread would normally go. I let all the eggs cool, pack them in the fridge and snack on them just like a hard boiled egg. No need to peel hard boiled eggs.
Would it be better to scramble the egg first? Is it the weight of the top bun that makes the egg spread out of the ring? What about letting the egg solidify more on the bottom griddle before adding the weight of the top bun?
I also add cheese below the meat on the bottom bun. As well, I let the egg cook a bit before putting the top bun on, don't have many issues with egg leakage. And I've never sprayed cooking spray on mine.
I wonder if he eats like that off camera because when he eats anything on camera he leans his head super far back and then like does a front flip when he bites down on something.. lol it looks wild!
Yes. I have used this many, many times and love it. Except I don’t use all five minutes. I give it 4-4.5 minutes. I also spray all the way around. As for the cheese, take it and cut it in half, and make an X across the muffin. That will help with the mess.
The way I make mine usually results in no spillage. Preheat, add bottom muffin/bun, cheese, ham, then 2 small eggs with a few glugs of whole milk scrambled goes in, then close the lid. After a minute, I add in the top muffin. The timer is set for 4 minutes, once it's up unplug the unit and let it cool for 3-5 minutes with the sandwich still inside. The residual heat will finish the eggs and brown the top, while the cooling down period allows the cheese to set a little so it's not a flowing mess and I can't eat the sandwich right out of the maker anyway, too hot for my liking.
I make my sausage and egg muffins differently. I've found a frypan on Amazon that has 'indents' that can hold an egg and cook it completely round. I can place my sausage into another 'indent' and top and bottom into the final two 'indents' I can assemble when done to my liking and add cheese or not, depending on my mood. There are other versions of the pan with both four and five sections to them.
I don't need 2 dishes to clean when I cook up my one egg... I have this camp pot/pan The pan is also the top for the pot. But the pan is small enough to cook that one egg the right size circular shape. I love it! And that way I use only one item to make the egg that way. Plus I rarely ever use the electric oven/stove to cook my food. I rent a space at the parents. They have the oven/stove which I can use, but I actually cook in my space with a Butane camp stove or my mini-burner on isobutane canister. In the summer I will also cook outdoors on the campfire. The lawn is big and surrounded by forest where there is a good camp setup for campfire, tenting, chilling in nature.
I quite possibly missed it so forgive me if I did, what size egg was used? If there's egg spillage wouldn't going to a smaller egg size fix that? Most people use large eggs unless a recipe calls for a different size but I'm not assuming anything here.
I bought my first one years ago and used it so much the teflon flaked off. Later on I bought another one and same problem, but they do work great once you master the right ingredients and their layering.. It is difficult to clean. Maybe it's time to dust it off again. Thank for the video
This is a great idea. I can finally upgrade from instant oatmeal every morning on weekdays to egg McMuffins!
Thanks..
Genuinely asking, does it actually save more time than making this on a regular pan?
@amagohom If I am only making one sandwich, I will just use a regular pan. If I'm making sandwiches for the week, I will use my sandwich maker.
@@amagohom I thought he said he was going to do that and compare?
I feel like the cheese would do a lot better added directly to the bottom bun. Then it would melt into the bread instead of sliding off a piece of meat and burning to the edges. Bet it would make a great texture too.
That's what I was thinking too 🤔
Yes. That's how you should do it. I have this device and if you put the cheese on top of the meat, it will not stick to the egg. It just slides right off.
Or you just put the cheese on after you take it out of the device. Everything should be more than hot enough to melt the cheese.
I have the double version and I always add the cheese to the bottom bun with the corners of the cheese folded under so there’s not much cheese loss.
I like the idea of making them in advance! Perfect for when you have to get up at 5am!!!
Youre supposed to oil? I dont even oil mine lol
PS, we use a shredded chedder, it holds up a bit better than slice cheese. I also lightly butter the muffin.
I've had the double version for a couple of years, and really like it. I often make several sandwiches at a time (to cut down on cleanup), and bag them for heating up in the microwave later. No complaints about that either.
I always waited until the sandwich was cooked and removed to add the cheese to it so it would not make a mess. Definitely recommend doing it this way
Thanks. This seemed like the obvious solution, but since I don't have the product, I was unsure if I might be missing something.
add the cheese to the bottom of the bun so that the meat touches the bottom of the egg tray. This means the cheese wont melt as fast from touching the griddle. Also use deli sliced cheese or thicker slices so it doesn't liquify.
straight american processed slices in this video but you have a good idea for sure
I added the cheese after I cooked the sandwich
Deli sliced is thin sliced.
@@peekaboots01 but it's not fake cheesefood cheese
Or if you want to use the thinner slices or American cheese, which melts easily, just add it immediately after you bring the sandwich out, and let it melt a little while the sandwich cools.
These are dope!
A few things that could help:
Shredded cheese is easier to melt but I normally fold the edges inward and put it at the bottom bun if I'm using square cheese.
Smaller eggs tend to work better, but you can lightly press the lid for a quick minute for larger eggs and it won't bleed over as much if at all.
Hope this helps!
Egg McMuffins, like he's making, are made with square cheese though. So your first tip (which is really one of a couple, not one of a few) doesn't help as much.
is shredded grated ?
@@Dyanosis , why do you think the shape of the cheese matters? The first tip is helpful, and it's about preference too. Shredded helps keep the sandwich neat, and taste the same (or close to) an Egg McMuffin.
@@Dyanosis But if it is better with rounded cheese, go with that. (McDonald's is over-rated)
@@girlsdrinkfeck NO, shredded is shredded, can be bought this way from the dairy case where square sliced cheese is. It's what I use for this.
I do want to say that although he does use 3 different items to make his breakfast sandwich you can just cook all 3 items for this sandwich in one pan at the some time especially if you are using a ring mold.
thank you
or just go to McD's lol
@@Bud3236 at the prices grocery stores are selling the basics now, McDs is equal or cheaper in some places.
This is easier and no ring mold is needed.
I take mine to the campground during the summer. Use it when I'm not cooking over the fire.
If the movable plate is not closed all the way and free of any pieces, it will leak. However, once cool it cleans very well even after over 10 years.
I toast my english muffin for 1 minute @ 350 dregrees in my air fryer, I only use the sandwich maker to cook the egg and canadian bacon for 6 minutes.
@PlasmaStorm73 [N5EVV] you can start the air fryer and do something else.
I got this thing for $5 at a thrift store and honestly of all the "gimmicky" items out there, this one is absolutely fantastic. Super easy to use and clean. Well worth the $5 I spent and use it A LOT.
I love mine. Use it daily.
You could use the same pan for the canadian bacon, egg, cheese, and muffin, all at the same time. I do 2 sandwiches at a time on a 12 inch cast iron frying pan. It takes some placement, but once you get used to where to put everything it works flawlessly.
I used this gadget at work and it was fine but when at home I prefer to do it as you explained. 💯🎯
Now I can’t wait til August!
or just spend five bucks more and get it now

I am allergic to mornings as well. I am in the middle of seeking out a 2nd or 3rd shift job.
@PlasmaStorm73 [N5EVV] so I've been doing overnight for 10 years. Did your eyes burn from that glowing orb in the sky
@@meandmyEV Nice! Congratulations on the weight loss effort. I feel you on the hash browns. 😊
Thanks for the video.
i saw a lot of guys review this maybe 5 years ago.
now the master reviewer gives it a spin
1) Use a deli slice cheddar or other harder cheese.
Love it.
It could be that James was using slightly larger eggs
It’s because he didn’t pre heat it
I have the double version, and we love it. We've had ours for years and it has held up perfectly.
did they fix the egg leaking with the double design one?
@@GreenDudeHC
If you have egg leaking, preheat longer.
Used to have until I realized that it wasn’t any easier than using a pan and toaster
Freakin’, loved the demo, liked the simplicity, and the Mandelbrot Set!
😂😂😂😂
The plastic wrapped cheese is some what fake. Deli cheese is the real deal.
Always well done reviews. Really nice filming equipment, production, and editing. Thank you for the effort! Keep going!
I love mine. My main issue is sometimes the egg isn't fully cooked ( I don't like runny eggs ) so you have to play with the timing
@earhornjones
Did he also buy you a skirt and apron?
I had an older version of this when I was in college and used it daily. I did the same with the cheese though, I'd leave it off and add the cheese after I took the sandwich out. I'd just lift the bun with the meat side and put the cheese on it. It was still hot enough to melt it but not hot enough to melt it right off. I do still have it but don't use it very often. I'd still highly recommend it though.
Freakin' Reviews upload. Perfect time to look for a video to watch
I think you are the first one I have watched that actually read the directions. Most don't then complain that it doesn't work right.
think i'll stick to my pan on the stove with a $3 egg ring from walmart.
That's what certain ham cuts are called in the US. Accuracy is not our strong point.
That round shape is called Canadian bacon. It is definitely a type of ham not bacon but that's what it's called.
Canadian bacon here in the US is smoked and cured pork loin. (not ham, technically)
I’ve had one of these for a long time and I love it. Works great.
I use this every morning. I love MickyDs egg McMuffins & this has saved me a ton of money.
Delicious, but a bit of messy clean up.
where do you plug it in when you are in the forest?

I just picked one up brand new in box at Good Will for $6.50. Score! And I love it!
I thought I'd like this breakfast sandwich maker but it was a hassle! Egg leaking out the side ended up giving it away!
How did you feel about the inside of the English muffin being untoasted? My favorite method is to walk into a deli and ask for a bacon egg and cheese.
Please add tomato on mine! Ta!
I put mine in the toaster and cook turkey bacon on the bottom plate. It adds a few extra minutes but it's worth getting everything crispy instead of steamy.
add salt and pepper to egg, and butter the muffins. I also put cheese down first on muffin.
Looks like the bottom muffin gets more done than the top.

Clean up is so easy.
well damn, I had no idea I wanted this until watching this video, I'm off to walmart

I have bought many kitchen gadgets from your videos and this one did not disappoint me. The one I ordered did not have a timer but nothing Alexa could not handle. I used real cheese slices, and it was flawless. I had to comment because it seemed too weird to work but it worked, and easy to clean as well.
I was waiting to see Bailey come around due to the delicious smells coming from your kitchen.
Now in Poland is 11 pm... and I want a sandwich... very badly... :D

I think it would be great for a college student that may not have access to a stove/toaster/etc.
It's an interesting idea but I think that it's much less messy and less to clean if you just use a pan.
American cheese melts in about 10 seconds so adding it in the end is a good idea.
If you go to any Salvation Army or Goodwill, you will see at least two or three of those on the shelf.
Thanks. I bought it yesterday and made fantastic sandwiches. Your review was a great help.
my friend has one and he brings it with him on deep sea fishing trips. he also is a painter and brings it with him on his jobs. there is no reason to use 2 pans as you did. you can easily put 2 eggs and 2 either ham or sausage in the same pan at the same time. you can also put 2 english muffins in the toaster at the same time.
This is the kind of product that sits on the kitchen counter for about a month, then ends up in the garage.
Hamilton Beach makes garbage products anyway.
It probably just spilled because of the muffin, as well as if you dont adjust the piece that slides out just right, it's more likely to leak a lot.
I bought my first one years ago and used it so much the teflon flaked off.
Later on I bought another one and same problem, but they do work great once you master the right ingredients and their layering..
It is difficult to clean.
Maybe it's time to dust it off again.
Thank for the video
I have seen this reviewed elsewhere, I'm happy to see your take on it.
