Welcome to MASpets! A channel dedicated to providing high quality information about exotic, alternative, and unique pets, as well as traditional ones. This channel supports the freedom of pet owners to care for the species of their choice as long as that animal has been shown to thrive in human care under the right conditions. We strongly believe that facts and education, not admonition, is the best policy for encouraging potential pet keepers to choose the best pet for their living situation. We believe there is no such thing as a ‘good pet’, and do not promote any particular species as pets, however we understand that the desire of some to own something different is essential to their expression and existence as an individual. Whether you are considering a pet, or are just interested in the subject, this channel invites you to become informed about the exciting world of animal diversity.
There are hundreds of species of exotic pets! Some examples include: fennec fox, porcupine, serval, wallaby, boa constrictor, rainbow crab, bush baby, zebra, squirrels, ostrich, kinkajou, macaws, springhare, lemur, leopard gecko, tarantula, capybara, sloth, owl, cockatoo, muntjac deer, lion, short-tailed opossum, raccoon, scorpion, green iguana, and more.
Domesticated exotic pets include domestic rats, hamster, gerbil, goldfish, guinea fowl, Bengal cat, peacock, fainting goats, and sugar gliders.
We post introductory videos to animals that can be kept as pets, care tips, address controversies, legal issues, and more. Please see the posted links for more information about this subject!

Sounds to me that there's a decent chance we simply don't know enough about their breeding behavior to support them properly in captivity, it might not be a situation where they inherently can't. Particularly because of the "inconsistency" mentioned and the limited research on the matter. As a specialist species (although they are behaviorally adaptable, so maybe not as specialist as I thought?), no doubt they require very specific circumstances.
If that's the case, perhaps down the road domestication and fostering could aid their protection as a backup population that could gradually be allowed to become more feral again. Not only is it greatly increasing in traction for being generally popular, but there are so many people that don't have the time for pets. I could also see a lot of people wanting to feed their pet primarily plants.

I didn't watch the video yet but I personally don't think they would make a good pet for one reason and one reason only and that's due to the strong smell

Considering the popularity of smoking marijuana, there's certainly a large group that apparently doesn't mind that smell.

@@tobikopulei9090 At first, but if somehow availability could be increased it would probably just be a thing people would learn to check into first.

i loved your video and I honestly think that at this point considering how there naturally habitat is dwindling a possible solution like domesticating them into to pets should actually be considered and maybe at least tried in an attempt to preserve there species and prevent them from going extinct the same way there close relative the Falkland Islands wolf did

It could also be the most surrendered pet wild canid, consequently filling up the collections of animal sanctuaries.

More surrendered than wolves or coyotes? What makes you say that? I'm not sure we could even have more of them in captivity in the first place for that to even be a possibility, unless we discover something we are doing wrong when trying to breed them (which I strongly suspect).

Only way to increase their numbers is domestication!. By that they might breed well n live longer with no natural threat.
