LMAO! I saw this in a discount theater at age 16. Though I never drove a truck, it did make me arm wrestle which I had to quit due to it causing tendonitis. Honestly though, this movie specifically inspired me to work out which I did for 25 years.

Only thing could've made it better was if he had a sleeper cab and there was a monkey in the back who drives when he gets tired, befriends the boy and teaches him to love his father... Dad how can the monkey drive? I put the cruise control on and he stands on the seat, think Mike.

Story Time: When I was in Australia at a family gathering back in like 2006, it was a mixed crowed of 3 generations, our oldies, my cousins and their kids. We were all gathered in the living room and I had rented 'Over The Top' for myself the week before and was supposed to return it that night to the video store and said, "Lets watch this, I got in my car." Which me and my male cousins were a fan of this, but when my female cousin (whose house it was and who had most of the young kids there between 6-10) was like "Wait a Stallone movie, this is gonna be nothing but violence and gore, not for my kids." I had to assure her as did my cousins, this was a family movie. Sure enough, in a room of about 15-20 of us, we sat down and watched this and we all just loved it. What was hard though is one of my aunties was battling cancer at the time, and she reminded me a lot of the mother in this, and I only thought about it after the fact I had put it on. Though no one complained and she really enjoyed it, this would be the last time we all saw a movie with her together before she passed. But I just remember how all of us, young and old, on a lazy Sunday afternoon just sat down and enjoyed a movie like this. Not everything has to be and Oscar box office hit to be a winner.

Arm wrestling is a contagious sport. And in the 80's, wasn't even a well known sport event globally. So, this movie brought a lot of global attention and interest to the sport and did real good for the arm wrestlers and arm wrestling community. John Brzenk an American legend as the most dominant and most successful arm wrestling champion 🏆 also a record holder for more than 40 years, being unbeatable... He appeared in this movie during the scenes of international competition.

Another movie from the "great" Cannon Films studio. A staple for us who grew up in the 80s. Fun Fact: Cannon needed a new big time star, they already had Chuck Norris and Charles Brunson, they paid Stallone somewhere between 12 to 20 million to do this film. No one knows the exact amount and Stallone has never said what it actually was, he just smiles when asked.

My junior high school actually had an arm wrestling table that was used to hold an annual arm wrestling tournament for the students. Based on that, I can confirm two things:
    1) the over the top technique is legit. It's about adding leverage.
    2) it is possible to break someone's arm while arm wrestling. I've seen it happen.
... I don't think the arm wrestling table is still around.

This was a very nice movie to watch with ypu both. It's surprisingly heartwarming and has some fun moments, and I like the awkwardness oof Stalline's character; it feels genuine and nicely done.
I have a feeling that the drug thing was real, but it wasn't a major drug problem, just mild abuse or smuggling maybe, because as speedy as the grandfather's hiding of the letters was, it makes more sense when you think on the straight laced grandfather being so angry and betrayed by the drug charge that he felt Hawk didn't deserve a connection with his son.
At any rate, fun to watch and fun to listen to you both!
