One of the best sci-fi action flicks ever. Fun fact, the guy that Emily Blunt pushes down when he calls her the Full Metal B*itch is her brother in real life.
@@markg1727 critical acclaim by known critics and audience score suggest the exact opposite. It takes a lot for a movie like this to get this kind of praise by critics and audience (91%, 90%) respectively. Then again, not everyone likes every movie.
No one is out there saying "You should like Edge of Tomorrow." Actually, most movie-watchers don't know about this film. It's more often than not overlooked. And yet most audiences that see this movie enjoy it. You might be one of the select few that have seen this movie and also dislike it.
Two great things about this movie: Big action hero Tom Cruise was happy to play an abject coward in the early parts of this movie. Not something we've seen before. Most Master Sergeant type characters in military movies are played from an emotional base of anger and hostility. Bill Paxton plays Farrell here from a base of pure joy and it is glorious to see.
Emily Blunt was three months pregnant in this movie. She was chosen for the part and did not find out until filming was due to start. She told only Tom Cruise, as she was worried about being replaced, he told no one else, and he just made sure that Emily was never in any danger of being injured. So she kept the part, and he made sure anything possibly too dangerous was safe for her. She revealed it publicly much later. Tom may be a bit nutty, but no one should ever doubt his dedication to film and the people he works with. You work hard, he works harder and respects you for it.
yes Tom even does his own stunts, in this movie he actually got covered in the blood of a time-controlling alien in order to perform his death-stunts and wake up alive again to shoot the next one
This is such an underrated sci-fi gem. I love it! Cage goes from a complete noob to a hardened war veteran but still manages to have a heart at the end of the story. The concept, the production design, the varying tones is all so well done. If you enjoyed this one, another Tome Cruise sci-fi movie that came out right around the same time was Oblivion. I think you would really enjoy that one. It also has an unexpectedly happy ending.

It is always interesting to me how many things that MSG Farell says turn out to be applicable to Gage. Great heroes are forged in the crucible of fire... check. You will be baptized in battle... check... and you will be reborn tomorrow. Check! Also, his notion that gambling entertains the notion that our fate is in the hands of someone else... in this case, since Gage is the one that is being reborn, he gets an opportunity to make sure he gets a fate that is favorable... through readiness and discipline, in fact. Gage, indeed, becomes the master of his own fate at the end, when he finally wakes up in the helicopter! Great reactions, and commentary!
The heli scene always gets to me. He spent so many days with her, he have fallen in love with her. Making their last day together count for every second, just broke my heart.

As near as I've ever been able to find, nobody is too sure of how many times Cage died before they finally killed the Omega, but most people put it in the area of around a year's worth of deaths, partly because Rita said she had the power for 300 days, and partly because Cage is nowhere near the soldier she is when he starts dying. So probably a couple of weeks before he figures out a way to get away from J Squad and find her, then maybe a week-ish of trying to actually get to her and talk to her, then all the dying during training, dying on the beach...I'm surprised he was still sane by the end!

Tommy boy also has really good chemistry with Cameron Diaz in "Knight & Day". A fun Cruise romp is there ever was one. But this is my favorite movie with him.
So, Emilie Blunt was talking about filming this in one of her many interviews for the movie and she was talking about how those metal exoskeleton armor suits weight like 70 pounds. And at one point it was too much for her and she broke down in front of Tom and started "whining" and complaining that it was too much and she couldn't do it. She was nearly in tears with how hard it was to do. Tom, she says, just stood there for a few seconds looking at her, then finally said to her "stop being a f****en pussy". And it was so unexpected that she just burst out laughing, but it also gave her the push she needed, and she then went on to continue filming!

My personal favorite when it comes to the time loop cliche. The name Operation: Downfall comes from a proposed WWII plan for the Allied invasion of the Japanese Home Islands. It was not used because of the use of the atomic bombs and Japan's surrender.
I always wondered something, by the logic of getting covered in an alphas blood and gaining the power to reset the day. Now whenever he dies it will also reset the day, including naturally.
Love this movie! A while back I made this comment on another reaction. " This film and "Source Code" - 2011 are very similar films. Both Equally entertaining! " … edited to remove a possible spoiler.
They keep talking about it. The only thing that ended up holding it up with the continued success of the Mission Impossible movies. As Dead Reckoning Part 2 is allegedly the last one Tom Cruise is going to be in, maybe they'll push forward with the sequel to this soon.
Cage most likely still has the power from the Omega. I like to imagine what happens after these events. Say he and Rita get together and have a family, they get old, on his deathbed he's like "I love you all" and then BOOM right back on the chopper. 😂 "Maybe Ill see what that girl in J Squad is up to...."

I got a screenshot of this video with a pic of Groundhog Day listed underneath it. I have to believe that was planned.
One of my favorite movies of all time
Cage died over 300+ time.. Over a year+ to him to know Rita.. That why he teared smiling eye in the end.. Cage is immortal now too..
*Emily Blunt already read the Sequel script, but she's have wait Tom Cruise to finished the Mission Impossible 8..
My personal favorite when it comes to the time loop cliche.
The name Operation: Downfall comes from a proposed WWII plan for the Allied invasion of the Japanese Home Islands. It was not used because of the use of the atomic bombs and Japan's surrender.
Genuinely great movie. The original name of the film was going to be "All you need is kill".
That's the name of the novel, the title of the movie specifically was Live, Die, Repeat.
Spooky. I just watched the DVD of this movie yesterday. I've seen it many times before. Great movie.
Awesome reaction to an amazing movie. Thanks
I always wondered something, by the logic of getting covered in an alphas blood and gaining the power to reset the day. Now whenever he dies it will also reset the day, including naturally.
This is such an amazing movie!!
This movie is honestly so good.
Something I am not clear about is if Tom Cruise’s character now has the omegas ability permanebtly or was it a one time reset?
A movie which somehow went under the radar.
One of the movies where I don’t think I’d change anything (others being The Fugitive and Galaxy Quest)
I saw lucy as the next film! I love this movie so much ❤
Love this movie!
A while back I made this comment on another reaction.
" This film and "Source Code" - 2011 are very similar films. Both Equally entertaining! "
… edited to remove a possible spoiler.
I love this movie! ✊
It might be better for October, but Emily Blunt is also in A Quiet Place, which is a fantastic scary thriller.
Bill Paxtons last movie😭
This movie is so insane.
I don’t know if a sequel is making with the same actors, but I hope that do ❤😊
They keep talking about it. The only thing that ended up holding it up with the continued success of the Mission Impossible movies. As Dead Reckoning Part 2 is allegedly the last one Tom Cruise is going to be in, maybe they'll push forward with the sequel to this soon.
@@EhrineAshbark Thanks for your answer 😉
Why make a sequel? It’s just a rip off Starship Troopers + Groundhog Day (minus the stuff that made those movies good)
tbh i hope there isnt a sequel. the movie, and the book it's based on, are perfectly fine as standalone stories.
No, the omega is dead. Stop doing sequels. Invent something new.
Fantastic reaction!
It is one of best sci-fi movies ever made.
