    Emily Blunt was three months pregnant in this movie. She was chosen for the part and did not find out until filming was due to start. She told only Tom Cruise, as she was worried about being replaced, he told no one else, and he just made sure that Emily was never in any danger of being injured. So she kept the part, and he made sure anything possibly too dangerous was safe for her. She revealed it publicly much later. Tom may be a bit nutty, but no one should ever doubt his dedication to film and the people he works with. You work hard, he works harder and respects you for it.

    Two great things about this movie:
    Big action hero Tom Cruise was happy to play an abject coward in the early parts of this movie. Not something we've seen before.
    Most Master Sergeant type characters in military movies are played from an emotional base of anger and hostility. Bill Paxton plays Farrell here from a base of pure joy and it is glorious to see.

    This is such an underrated sci-fi gem. I love it! Cage goes from a complete noob to a hardened war veteran but still manages to have a heart at the end of the story. The concept, the production design, the varying tones is all so well done. If you enjoyed this one, another Tome Cruise sci-fi movie that came out right around the same time was Oblivion. As near as I've ever been able to find, nobody is too sure of how many times Cage died before they finally killed the Omega, but most people put it in the area of around a year's worth of deaths, partly because Rita said she had the power for 300 days, and partly because Cage is nowhere near the soldier she is when he starts dying. So probably a couple of weeks before he figures out a way to get away from J Squad and find her, then maybe a week-ish of trying to actually get to her and talk to her, then all the dying during training, dying on the beach...I'm surprised he was still sane by the end!

    So, Emilie Blunt was talking about filming this in one of her many interviews for the movie and she was talking about how those metal exoskeleton armor suits weight like 70 pounds. And at one point it was too much for her and she broke down in front of Tom and started "whining" and complaining that it was too much and she couldn't do it. She was nearly in tears with how hard it was to do.
    Tom, she says, just stood there for a few seconds looking at her, then finally said to her "stop being a f****en pussy".
    And it was so unexpected that she just burst out laughing, but it also gave her the push she needed, and she then went on to continue filming!

      I've seen guys in actual combat get overwhelmed by all that was going on at the same time and a good slap really enhances the focus.
      Not the physical power of it but the fact that is disassociates the mind from everything it's trying to process. Like a spiritual reboot.

      I remember reading that in maybe in Vanity... Cruise is a professional and started training 6 mos before shooting, Blunt was only 2 months. Truely grueling to "wear" 70 lbs every day, but it is a determined/war-like mind that pushes that aside and gets it done... and thats who Rita is in the comics too. She will kill anything in her way... including you.

It's all fun and death until he loses that 'power' which changes the tone of the movie drastically. While it doesn't say in the movie, Cage dies like 300+ times.. Trying to perfect everything.. Losing, and dying over and over.. Meaning he suffered the same fate of watching someone he likes die over and over again :(

    Addie, I have a Halloween movie suggestion for you. The movie is called "Monster Squad" it's a pretty good movie that's not too scary and it has some of the classic monsters in it. I don't want to spoil it for you so I won't tell you anything else about it. I just hope you'll consider watching it for Halloween or anytime.

    Cage most likely still has the power from the Omega. I like to imagine what happens after these events. Say he and Rita get together and have a family, they get old, on his deathbed he's like "I love you all" and then BOOM right back on the chopper. 😂 "Maybe Ill see what that girl in J Squad is up to...."

    Another time travel movie you should react to is The Final Countdown. (1980) The U.S.S. Nimitz goes back to December 6th, 1941. It's filmed on the Nimitz. It's like Top Gun meets Back to the Future.

    The japanese book this is based on has an absolutely brutal ending, which they changed completely in this movie, which is why - if you think about the logic of the mimics' time shift - the ending doesnt quite make sense in the movie (for example, if they all go back 24 hours how come the nexus mimic didnt?). The book has an absolutely consistent logic - to defeat the mimics the person with the tainted blood has to be killed. Thats why the book is called 'All you need is kill".

    • @darsnider7429
      @darsnider7429 ปีที่แล้ว

      thats not actually true, its not that the person with the tainted blood has to be killed, its that 2 people with the tainted blood cant exists in the same time loop, how it works and how it is in the books is different, in the books, its a set of relay stations with the alphas acting as antennas and its in a specific grid, the mimics only setup the grid before the battle so its not always active, if you kill an antenna you take its place, and you have to kill all the antennas and the leader to stop the loop, Rita still had the power in the book and cage got it and since both were in the same loop, they were both seen as antennas for the mimics so even if they killed all the other mimics one of them would keep the loop going for the other, you can guess the solution, but also the longer your in your initial loop the more long term damage it does to your brain
