    When I was a kid in 1982 I watched this film. Quint's story about the USS Indianapolis chilled me to the bone. I asked my uncle about it. He had been in the Navy during the Vietnam war. He gave me a book about the incident. To this day when Quint tells that story I get chills.

    The original plan for Jaws 3 was a comedy pastiche called Jaws 3 People 0 that was going to be written by the people behind National Lampoon (and apparently about a film crew trying to make a Jaws sequel being attacked by a shark, including the book’s author and Hollywood executives being eaten)
    It would probably have been the Airplane! of shark movies (and was going to feature Roger Bumpass, aka Squidward’s voice actor)
    Ever since learning about that, I will feel forever robbed of that amazing spoof

    • @ThatBugBehindYou

    Spielberg was briefly interested in directing Jaws 2 and wanted the producers to wait until he finished Close Encounters, but they chose not to and hired Jeannot Szwarc (Supergirl (1984)) to direct it instead. There were also ideas of having Jaws 2 be a prequel to the original in which we watch Quint during his time on the USS Indianapolis.

    I've always been curious how a Jaws reboot would turn out in today's world. Like how CGI could be used with more modern practical effects, who would be the main cast, how the protagonists would deal with the shark with today's technology etc...

    • @YouVSMeTV
      @YouVSMeTV 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It could be roughly the same, just in a small town without much access to "big city" tech. When some tech does arrive after 4 attacks and 3 fatalities in as many days, then seeing the sheer size and speed of this behemoth would be a big reveal itself. Then a combination of practical and cgi with the final showdown between the sheriff and coast guard leader.

And don't get me wrong, Jaws (1975) is my favorite horror film of all time, and I downright love it, I first saw it when I was around six years old and constantly wanted to rewatch it ever since, I was practically addicted to it when I was in elementary school--so I do not have a warped watching pattern with these movies that would conflict with my ranking of the entrees...for some random reason I've always thought the first was a masterpiece, the sequel wasn't necessary but it did the best it probably could, and the third and fourth were both terrible, but I always thought 3D was a little worse

    The telepathy stuff in Jaws Revenge is probably influenced by the book.
    In Peter Bentchleys novel, Chief Brody and the shark have some weird connection. Not quite telepathy, but there is something that makes it seem as though the shark is attracted to Brody.

    • @dunebasher1971
      @dunebasher1971 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The original screenplay of Jaws The Revenge had the shark explicitly being controlled by voodoo witch doctor (yes, really) in order to hunt down the Brody family. That was obviously completely removed for the final shooting script, but it's included in the novelisation.

      @@dunebasher1971 Having the shark be controlled by a voodoo witch doctor would have made Revenge more entertaining, so I wish it had been included.

    Funny timing when you said "really great shark work". The shark swimming by the boat side caves in from the rubber and you can see metal rods when the mouth opens.

    I would lose my shit if they remade Jaws. My favourite film of all time, just watch the original it can't be topped. No doubt it will be remade eventually with The Rock as Quint and Kristen Wigg as a female version of Brodie or some shit.
    Great video again Elk, thanks 👍

    Jaws 2 was a perfect popcorn film with a bit of added gravitas from Roy Scheider. I don't see a need to remake the original, but I think a good remake or remix of part 3 would help salvage the franchise from its watery grave.

    Fun fact: the director of jaws 2 said that for the sequel, instead of creating tension and hiding the shark, he said they should show it as much as possible. Completely ruining one of the best aspects of jaws.

    It's kind of close call as to which is worse between Jaws 3 & 4. They're both garbage. Also, Michael Caine is in Jaws 4 for the same reason Louis Gossett Junior is in 3 as attempts to elevate these cash grabs.

    My dad was a small lad when Jaws came out in Theaters. He lived in a seaside village and he told me that the entire beaches were empty for months. Signs were placed around due to the panic of sharks that might be in the waters cause of the movie. Idk I thought it was pretty funny how much of an impact that movie has done hah

    I was not old enough to see Jaws when it came out, but a few years later--right before Jaws 2 came out--I caught Jaws in a small theater one night. I was terrified and it really did make me think of what might be in the ocean every time I go into the water. Now it should be noted here, that at the time I was the world's biggest Olivia Newton-John fan. I had first happened upon her when the song If You Love Me (Let Me Know) came out, and in fact that was the first album I ever owned. So, when Grease was coming out I could hardly contain myself. I so wanted to see her on the big screen--I should add I was not a John Travolta fan (never saw an episode of Kotter, and had not been old enough to see Carrie, and had yet to discover Disco and Saturday Night Fever) so his being in the film with her was not a factor. Then one day, OPENING DAY for both Grease and JAWS2 I was at the theater. I had time only for one film. I had to choose. Having just seen Jaws, I opted for Jaws 2. I would later go on to see Grease many, many times, but not that day. I actually LIKED Jaws 2. I thought the action was good, the kills were fine, and except for the helicopter scene, I really like it. Sure, it was not JAWS, but then it did not seem to me that it was trying to be. The end of the film was, for me fine because it was something that seemed like it could happen. That being said, I did not care for Jaws 3D, but the effects in the theater were good, and when people--as here--only show them in 2D yeah, sure, they look stupid. I thought the plot to 3D was pointless, and that is why I waited until JAW 4 came on TV. Even on the smaller screen it sucked. So, good job on this video, and thanks for reminding me of just how people can take the money and run as they did with 4.

    I agree that Jaws is a perfect movie. Other perfect movies from each decade since:
    80's - Groundhog Day
    90's - Shawshank Redemption
    00's - Children of Men
    The 2010's feel a little too close in the rearview to say for sure, but I'll go with maybe 'Mad Max: Fury Road' or 'Get Out'.

    Jaws 1 is a good film and i rewatched it recently. It has one major flaw for me and that is quinns breakdown towards the end, it feels contrived and is aimed towards creating a showdown rather than letting the shark create the moment.

    I saw Jaws the Revenge in the theater when I was seven or eight years old! (It was the ‘80s, no one cared) It was my first Jaws film, and I thought it sucked even as a kid. It made zero sense. I saw Jaws 2 and Jaws 3D bloodless on Sunday afternoon television probably in the ‘90s. I finally sat down seriously in college in the early 2000s and watched Jaws (1975 PG) for the first time, and that movie rocks! I’ve seen it a number of times now, and I just got the Blu-ray for it. My wife says our 10yo daughter isn’t allowed to watch it until after our beach trip. X-D

    As a horror movie fan, I do appreciate Jaws and I'd pick it over Halloween or Friday the 13th anyday. The only thing that bothers me is how much it made human beings hate sharks even more. Sharks are beautiful and interesting animals, but still they are slaughtered to the edge of extinction and people hate them so much. Disgusting and sad and Jaws did it's part in all of it.

    The Floating fish head with the 2001 theme was hilarious :). There needed to be a lot more deaths in Jaws 3 at least a whole team of water skiers needed to be wiped out to at least get another star. The author is correct Jaws 3 is a masterpiece of cinema compared to the god awful Jaws 4. But you can't beat Jaws eating the Helicopter from Jaws 2.

    I know Spielberg will never allow it as you said, but realistically we are in a perfect time for a jaws remake. You have major hit games like Subnautica able to exist purely on the concept of people's interest in the sea. TH-cam channels about marine biology and general dives into the ocean are blowing up, everyone can't stop talking about megalodon despite only 5 images existing about it all debunked, and Thalassophobia has become such a meme that the majority of people "afflicted" with it so actively seek out ocean content that it's a keyword that will get you more views.
    If we had an actual effort placed into making another jaws movie and it wasn't just a crappy generic underwater horror like all the current ones circulating you'd have another movie that will break into the box office up there in the top 10.
