- Smashed a rental car parking, that's on me.
- Some guy pulled out into my car (his insurance paid, I wasn't driving).

If anyone is interested in learning more in-depth information about the Titanic or Oceanliners in general I highly recommend the channel Oceanliner Designs. While his channel isn't exclusively about the Titanic, he does have several videos about it and why they couldn't have been switched. He also explains things like why the *California* didn't immediately rush to the Titanic (ice field, as well as the timing of the flares not consistent with a distress signal so they weren't sure what was going on), and a whole slew of other things. Something a lot of people don't realize is that at the point of it's maiden voyage, the *Titanic* wasn't as hyped up as we think it was today. The Olympic was the first in it's class- literally the *Olympic Class*, so that was the more famous ship at the time pre-sinking. Honestly the channel is just super interesting in general, as is the history of Ocean liners in general. Definitely worth checking out.

The list to the port was cause there was a fire on board, in order to get the fire under control they moved hundreds of tons of coal to the port side. This actually saved hundreds of lives cause being off weight stopped the ship from capsizing like many big ships do when sinking

Between all the sinkings and conspiracies, I'm shocked there's still no video on M/S Estonia, which has both, a lot of which are still being uncovered today. The front bow was lifted from the seabed for examination literally couple days ago.

@@thepastmaster5643 I think one of the more popular and more substantiated theories revolve around potential nuclear weapons smuggling to Sweden that the Russian's knew about and suspected the ship was involved in, so they had a sub follow it, but Orcs being Orcs Orced it up.
Then the Swedish government wanted to cover it all up to hide their involvement and wanted the whole thing buried under concrete. Another sussy detail is that the diving company hired for the job specialized with nuclear material cleanup.
There's so much suspicious stuff all over and around the whole thing. Like the NATO naval excercizes that jammed the emergency radio frequencies.
We SERIOUSLY need a deep dive video on this. Can easily make even a 3 hour deep dive into all of the various conspiracy theories from Russian Mafia to insurance conspiracies and so much more.
Im still annoyed at, how that "documentary" a couple of years ago both dived and filmed illegally on a wreck, thats a protected tomb for 100s of ppl, AND they did everything possible to spread conspiracies.
Also annoyed, that I have yet to hear any1 speculate, that maybe that big hole in the hull was made by illegal divers after the sinking. Not exactly an unknown occurance, but instead, especially thanks to that disgusting "documentary", its got ppl all over raging about "the real cause" of the sinking.
Im happy, they reopened the investigation and allowed diving on the wreck for the purposes of raising the bow, examining the hole etc, so they can once and for all blow these despicable conspiracy mongers out of the water - literally and figuratively.

@@grantmctaggart9942 That's not so weird. Sweden, Finland, and Estonia made a joint law declaring the Estonia wreak as a graveyard. But they quickly realized that Estonia was in international waters. They could prosecute citizens from their respective countries for diving and desecrating the gravesite, they couldn't prosecute anyone else and the wreak had become a very popular spot for German and Swizz divers. So the idea to cover the wreak in concrete to preserve the sanctity of the wreak came up.
Your tangents are probably my favorite part of these. Not only do we get amusing stories, we learn a bit more about you every time, which makes your video's more endearing. Please keep on doing what you're doing. Always a fun romp!

Captain Smith was in command of both Olympic and Titanic at the time of the accidents, stewardess/later nurse Violet Jessup (who retired many years later after continuing her career with no further disasters) and stoker Arthur Priest were onboard for the oopsies of ALL THREE Olympic-class ships (the other one, Britannic, was sunk by a mine while operating as a hospital ship for the Royal Navy in 1916). Priest, unlike Jessup, was also on the crew of another ship that survived a collision and two other ships that sunk out from under him (one torpedoed, one sunk in a gunfight with a German liner*, both during the Great War). I think maybe Arthur Priest pissed off Poseidon at a young age.
*And yes, luxury liners fighting to the death was not an uncommon thing, both sides requisitioned merchant ships into naval service during both world wars, and transatlantic liners were built for speed and had plenty of accommodation for passengers such as crews to sail back captured ships and the prisoners that were the original crews of said prizes, so throw a couple of 75mm or 88mm guns on them and send them to chase down and capture/sink enemy merchant ships so the actual warships can fight other warships; the slower liners and cargo ships were used to transport troops and supplies and armed to defend themselves against said raiders.
On the other hand: He always survived. So maybe ... demigod?

Violet Jessop was on all three Olympic class ships. She was on the Britanic when it sank.

When ships sink, there is indeed a suction effect. As the ship sinks downwards, it disrupts the water and the suction comes from water filling the space the ship was once occupying.
Mythbusters tested it, and while there is a light pull, it was barely enough to pull Adam underwater.
Suction was also what caused the Hawk incident and near miss Titanic had with the ship New York
@PeninsulaPaintings considering that the boat they sank was tiny, it really isn't representative of what would have happened around Titanic.
One easy way to see if it was the Titanic versus the Olympic is the bridge wings. On Olympic, they were flush with the superstructure (the stuff that rises up above the hill). On Titanic they were a few feet extended over the side on both sides.
If you look at the photo of the sisters together, you can see this. Olympic is on the left, Titanic the right. Look at the bridge wings and you have the right ship.
Also, on the latest 3D scans, they found the number “401” on Titanic’s propeller.
And "400" is written on every piece of the Olympic that still exists after her scrapping.

The Titanic was actually underinsured against the cost to build. So when WSL claimed the insurance they actually took a loss. Not to mention the WSL may have lost a bit of reputation for this and people won’t trust WSL anymore.
Also E. J Smith was known as the “commodore of the White Star Line” and as such was put in charge of both vessels…but what’s really strange is the story of Violet Jessop. Violet was a stewardess aboard the Olympic when she hit the Hawk, then she was a stewardess aboard the Titanic and survived, then was a nurse aboard the Britannic when she sank and Violet survived after the lifeboat she was shredded by the propeller and all others were killed…I’m sure she was a bad omen…like if I was in the early 20th century and I saw Violet on a ship I was about to get on I’d cancel…straight away…
Also, JP Morgan didn’t cancel his berth at the “last minute” he cancelled it months in advance.
There was also a few crew members who missed the departure because they were in the pub too long but later one of the guys’ mother said they had a premonition, or an ill feeling but the truth is they were getting lashed in a Southampton pub.
I don’t always watch all the Decoding the Unknown videos when they launch, but when it’s one that’s just particularly OBVIOUS I have to watch it just to see Simon’s little fits while he tries to hold in the tangents until the dam finally bursts 😂😂😂
At the time that the Titanic sank, they hadn't quite gotten the math nailed down on exactly how much suction a stricken ship of a given size produces when sinking. Estimates were a tad high, and the Titanic was *much* bigger than the rescue ships, so...yeah, folks were scared.
I feel like the mechanics of the ship that was recently stuck in the canal has proven we STILL haven't figured out all the maths on the vacuum/displacement issue.
Even if they had enough lifeboats they would not have been able to deploy them in time

I enjoyed the way this one was written. It started off with an obvious easy question and then threw a lot of facts at us that actually made it sound a lot more complex and then went back and showed just how all the 'facts' we'd been given were fake. It made for a fun ride but also pointed out how easy it would have been to fall for the story if we trusted Simon (and Katy) to do the research and this one time they'd stopped at the fake facts and never debunked them. Some of us would have gone digging and found the real facts but a lot of us would have just gone 'wow', not been invested enough to bother fact check since we trusted Simon and the Titanic sinking doesn't have much day to day bearing on our lives and gone on with life convinced something fishy had gone down with the Titanic and now we knew a cool story most of the world didn't. Fun plot twist entertaining video to watch but also kind of enlightening.
American here. Maybe it's a regional thing, but I've never heard wellingtons referred to as "Gum boots". Rain boots or garden boots is what I always heard growing up.

Oh, theres soooo many Titanic conspiracy theories out there. Most of them have gone from the time of the sinking, coz the papers didnt have any facts to report, so they just made shit up, even b4 the survivors made it to shore. And most of what ppl think, they know about the Titanic today, comes from "A Night to Remember", a 1950s movie, thats quite good entertainment, but full of false information (most of which was already known to be false at the time of filming) and perpetuating false conspiracy theories.
To this day, loads of Titanic "documentaries" claim all kinds of complete crap, thats been debunked decades ago, some of it provenly false even at the time of the sinking.
Switch theory and coal fire are the most popular. Coal fire is also debunked by experts. In fact it caused the Titanic to sink more evenly preventing capsizing because they moved coal to the other side of the ship
They've been around and most were debunked decades ago, but whenever the Titanic hits the news again; Dr. Ballard finding the wreck, the movie release, the 100th anniversary, the submarine implosion; the theories come back into circulation without the facts that debunk them.

Books are great, aren't they? Well, some of them are, at least.
There's this very famous book - an annual publication - called '*Jane's Fighting Ships*'. It was founded and edited by Fred T Jane, a naval expert, journalist and... maritime artist.
The original issue of Jane's "All the World's Fighting Ships" was a collection of *hand-drawn* illustrations by Jane himself of every major fighting ship in the world in 1897.
What has this to do with the Titanic?
Well, Jane was extremely good at picking out and highlighting any & all small differences in rig and structure: a minor difference between bridge details, tops on masts being slightly higher or lower between sister ships, vents & cowls being larger or smaller or different in number and all that.
This guy kept his eye on the details and knew his trade very, *very* well.
In the 1914 edition (by which time photography had replaced his main illustrations) Jane still included hand-drawn silhouettes of the major ships at the start of each section. *In the British section* Jane included silhouetttes of the major *liners* of the day, for size and appearance comparison with cruisers and so on, and because they might end up serving in some capacity as well, but mostly as an identification guide for readers.
He included the silhouette for Olympic, Britannic, Mauritania & Lusitania... *but not Titanic* - because jane was very well aware that it had sunk two years prior. As a keenly-informed and highly observant (and well-connected & regarded) totally independent third party, you'd have expected Jane of all people to have picked up on the Titanic swap - had it ever happened.
But of course it didn't.

not to mention, the time difference between both ships construction, with Olympic being in service long before Titanic was even finished, the names of the ships are actually engraved in the metal itself, and the engines are 2 stories tall at least with the serial numbers matching their corresponding ship.

Really fascinating consideration. Also like industry experts at that time never mentioned. The dock workers or anyone else really talked about it too.
The "under-insured" figures are what they are do to devaluation. That is Accounting 101. The moment an insured item is used, it is losing value, depreciating every year, month, week, even every day. So insuring the Titanic for exactly what she had cost was not going to be backed by any insurance company. she's losing value every mile she steamed along.
Insurance on items aboard would have been a totally different policy, and likely insured by different companies that specialize in such items. Insurance for the passengers and crew would have been yet again different companies with different valuation, and so on. So that info at 41:00 in the video is not a shock to me, Simon!
Reminds me of how new cars lose around 10-20% of their value (depending on the make/model) as soon as their front tires leave the sales lot :(
My dad got into a low-speed fender bebder once (not his fault). The repairs cost over $2000. The body shop said that the reason that the repair cost so much was that a sensor in the rear bumper had been damaged.

A similar thing happened to me, I was rear-ended and I thought it would be easy to remove the dent. Nope that's when I learned my 1990 wagon had a fiberglass rear gate and we would have to specially order a new one. I just never got it fixed lol.

A deer jumped a fence and basically sat on the front passenger corner of my car ... almost 11k in total, about 7 of that was parts. I learned a lot about how some parts, like sensors, are often replaced in pairs. To how I needed a new front bumper because the clips hooking into the frame were broken but my bumper was fine.
As far as the speed of insurance psyouts goes, it probably helps that a *bunch* of the claimants were *super* rich folks who probably had some kind of *ridiculously* costly insurance concierge service.

As a maritime historian, I have, in fact, realised that most people are not aware that there were/are waterways. Or navigation tools. Most people seem to think ships just sail off in the hopes to find the other shore somehow. They know shit about currents or the ocean CHANGING throughout the year. In their minds, it's basically a massive swimming pool you can cross however you please. Which then of course means you'll hardly ever meet another boat as the Atlantic is freaking large. Surprisingly, a lot of people also seem to think that about planes. You have a starting point & a destination & in between captains can do whatever they want. I had many tiring conversations about this 🤦🏻♀️

Fun fact the Titanic did have a fire in its coal bunker while in dock and was still burning when it left dock which is believed to have led to the weakening of the bullhead
Most Titanic historians don’t think it weakened the bull head but there is an argument that the fire was the titanic’s guardian angel, because of the fire they had to move millions of tons of coal to the port side putting the whole ship at a 3 degree list. So when the titanic hit starboard side the water had to overcome that extra weight and ended up stopping the ship from capsizing. Tests run found without that coal the ship would’ve capsized within an hour before they got even the first lifeboat launched
This fire was also why it was listing to port with asymmetrical coal usage - they had moved coal that wasn't burning out of the burning bunker to help put it out, which was what caused the list, and when it was finally put out they didn't bother moving it back - they were just going to use it from the over-full bunkers first.

I gave the local agent a picture of a collared grizzly bear i saw while hunting where you could see the agent's vehicle in the background. She told me said bear doesn't exist. More recently i had a cougar on my roof and the Conservation agents tell me that it was just a feral cat. Ever see a 170 pound house cat?

here are thedifferenc es between the 2 ships -
The Titanic and Olympic were sister ships, both operated by the White Star Line. While they shared many similarities in design and appearance, there were some key differences between them.
Size: The Olympic was slightly larger than the Titanic. The Olympic had a gross tonnage of around 45,300 tons, while the Titanic's gross tonnage was approximately 46,300 tons.
Maiden Voyage: The Olympic's maiden voyage took place on June 14, 1911, while the Titanic's maiden voyage began on April 10, 1912.
Promenade Deck: One of the noticeable differences between the two ships was the placement of the promenade deck. On the Olympic, the promenade deck was continuous and wrapped all the way around the ship, offering uninterrupted views. On the Titanic, the promenade deck was not continuous due to the placement of the First-Class cabins and other structural differences.
Funnel Design: The funnels on the two ships were slightly different. The forward funnel on the Titanic was more streamlined, while the forward funnel on the Olympic had a slight taper near the top.
Scirocco Fan Placement: The Titanic had additional scirocco fans in the First-Class smoking room, which the Olympic did not have. Scirocco fans were large electric fans used for ventilation.

There is another flaw with the whole "canceled tickets at the last minute" thing. They had to do the switch in March, which meant that they would have had to be working on this whole scheme for over a month, but then bought tickets to sail on the ship he was about to deliberately sink, and didn't realize it until the last second.

According to Mike Brady from Oceanliner Designs, they actually cut those portholes in Titanic first, to vent heat from the crew mess area. It worked so well, they did it to Olympic.
The insurance scam conspiracy theory is new to me. The one I've heard was that the original Titanic wasn't ready to set sail in time and another ship set off in its place.
Its not new, tho its completely idiotic and easily disproven, yet many ppl continue to claim it today.
Plus, if it was an insurance scam, it was the worst insurance scam in history, coz the Titanic was only insured for a fraction of its cost, so the White Star Line actually suffered a HUGE economic loss.
The only ship that could have replaced Titanic was Olympic. The only other British four stackers (4 funnel ships) were the Lusitania and Mauritania which were owned by White Stars rivals Cunard lines. Also those 2 looked nothing like Titanic.

Great video! I went down this rabbit hole a few years ago, and you covered everything I discovered about this. I wish your video had been out back then, as it would have saved me a lot of time! Watching you go through this reminds me of how it went for me as well. Initially, there is a lot of evidence that makes you think it's actually possible that this could have happened, but then all that evidence is quickly debunked. Nice one!
Wasn't the issue with so many people dying on the titanic not also that there were far too few lifeboats, because regulations werent good enough and the company didn't want lifeboats to ruin the aesthetics of the ship or something. But if you were planning on sinking the ship in freezing temperatures with supposed rescue ships miles away I daresay they would have put on enough lifeboats (which also would have been good PR in the aftermath: "Because we care for safety we put on more lifeboats than were required and that's how everyone was saved")

The "Campanile of Saint Mark's" is the bell tower on the main square in Venice. It has hundreds of years of history and for Venice people was quite an event when they put the freshly restored bells in their original position in 1912 after a two years long restoration.
There was ABSOLUTLEY no difference in length between Titanic and Olympic and I have zero idea where the writer got that from.

Titanic was even a few inches shorter im height as Olympic had larger funnels. But they were identical in length.

It was definitely the Titanic that sank, not the Olympic. The only thing the Titanic and Olympic had switched were their original captains and if those two ships were to have been switched, there’s no way they would’ve gotten away with it without everyone noticing. They weren’t 100% identical and the Olympic looked exactly the same after the Titanic disaster as she did before and the Titanic’s window shapes, numbers, and more were the same on her wreck as they were when she was first built and they both had their names engraved on their sides and written in dozens if not hundreds of other places on them. If they were to have disguised the Olympic as the Titanic and the Titanic as the Olympic, they would’ve had to work on those two ships a lot longer than they did before letting them leave for New York City to do big investigations on their names, numbers, windows, and much more to ensure that the Titanic’s appearance matched the Olympic’s and the Olympic’s matched the Titanic’s.

I remember watching this theory on discovery or nat geo. Can't remember which one. This was a very long time ago. But the episode was quite convincing.
I guess my family must be part of this conspiracy too then, as my Grandfather and Great Grandfather were scheduled to sail out to Canada on the Titanic, however, at the last minute, "something went wrong with their tickets" and they were given passage on the next available ship. I have often wondered about this, not because of it being a conspiracy, but just the dumb luck that I am here at all...

There was a coal strike going on at the time, so it was far more likely for other ships to have their passages cancelled and rescheduled to the larger liners. Actually there were quite a few Titanic passengers who were originally meant to take other ships but due to the strike, most of the coal taken from other ships and reallocated to Titanic instead.
@@piratesswoop725 I'm aware, that's part of why they were leaving. They were smiths and shipwrights and had been given free passage, but there were duplicate tickets issued for their berths. So many people also just wanted to go on the Titanic because she was so famous before she launched, but my Elders didn't care, they just wanted to get to Canada. Being smiths, the coal strike is part of the reason they were leaving.

fun fact about that episode. Prior to that one, Blue Peter held a competition for kids to write a Dr Who story send it in and the writers would pick a winner and make said episode. My daughter with a little help from Mum lol shhh decided to try, being huge Who and Titanic fans we combined the two. We wrote about angels onboard, pirates and a new blonde love for the doc etc etc you get the drift. Anyway long story short, daughters story didnt win but BUT lol not long after guess which episode came out for that years christmas special..... STILL gives us both goosebumps.

47:31 A note on the wireless operators: most of them were basically tech geeks. They tended to be very informal when chatting with each other so one wireless operator telling another to shut up wasn’t shocking. They were employees of the Marconi wireless company who made their profits from messages sent by passengers. The Titanic had a backlog of telegrams since the wireless had broken down earlier in the voyage (Harold Bride and Jack Philips fixed it even though tampering with the machines was against company policy). The Californian was also a lot closer than the station Jack Phillips was trying to reach so their message would have been like someone shouting in his ear.

Ram that car into a glacier, the driver will die and that beast will still run.

Maybe this was mentioned in an earlier comment, but if so, I missed it. In defense of the crew of the Californian, yes - they saw the rockets of the Titanic exploding on the horizon. However, the rockets shot off where white, when the standard at the time was to use red rockets for distress. So, while the Californian saw the rockets, the crew were confused as to what exactly they were seeing. Surrounded by ice, the captain decided not to risk his ship out of idle curiosity. Yes, the captain could have woken up his wireless operator, but I believe the man had just worked multiple shift (had been up for two days…?) and the captain didn’t want to disturb him for nothing. Again, the crew of the Californian were uncertain of what they were seeing and did not know the Titanic was in trouble.
Edit: The Californian did attempt to signal the Titanic with signal lamps, but never received any reply.

The videos are good, yes, very nice, but any time people need an ACCURATE example of how an ADHD brain works, I show them the first 30 minutes of a video and they realize its much less "and so I was- SQUIRREL!" and more "so the Titanic- oh yeah, that reminds me of ice cubes and- ..crap I need to fill my ice cube tray. Aaaand now I've passed by laundry that needs done so I put that in, then an hour later realize I never filled the ice cube tray and I should put my laundry in the dryer but OMG I was making a video about the Titanic! 🤦🏻♀️ "

The biggest thing that kills the whole switching conspiracies is TIME. The Olypic was in dry dock for 40 to 44 days getting repaired after the collision with the Hawke. It took 7 months from when the Olympic first hit water to when it was completed ready for service. It is impossible for them to switch the two boats in 44 days. All of the mill work, electrical, adding addional rooms, other minor interrior differences to convert there wasn't enough time. After repairs the Olympic went back into service while the Titanic finished out its construction.

There are major promenade deck layout differences..and the olimpic did not get titanics propeller...it had its own spares, the 2 ships had different pitch propellrs so they are bot interchangable .dk if it got said im half listening.
Titanic was just an unfortunate accident and the actual swap was between Olympic and Britannic. Britannic never entered service in the high-speed transatlantic liner role, wasn't finished until war broke out and was requisitioned by the Royal Navy as a hospital ship, then ALLEGEDLY hit a mine and sank in warm water in the Aegean Sea with a great many other ships nearby, with the loss of only 30 lives. That makes just as much sense as the Titanic conspiracy theory (they're both total bullshit, or course, I just made the alternative one up on the spot from what I know about the three ships).
And those 30 lives were lost due to people boarding and launching lifeboats despite the captain ordering them to wait as he wanted to attempt a beaching and the unfortunate lifeboats were sucked into the exposed spinning propellers and most of occupants were tragically killed.
The captain only ordered the propellers stopped upon hearing the news that lifeboats had been launched and that they were being dragged to their doom.

No, the Titanic did not suck anyone down with it. This myth has been busted pretty much from the day after the ship sank. The ships baker stated that he had been clinging to the back of the ship as it went down and simply stepped off the sinking ship and swam away easily.

In 2012, a cable channel made a doc called “titanic the final mystery”. It made its way to TH-cam and I watched it just recently. It talks about the “Olympic sunk on purpose” conspiracy theory, and that the California was supposed to be there to pick up the passengers before the Olympic sank. Given that the California’s captain allowed his radio operator to go to sleep, missing Titanic’s call, it all seems pretty thin to me.
Not to mention both Second Officer Groves and Third Officer Stone notified Captain Lord about their observations of the Titanic during that evening. Stone even mentioned the distress rockets. If Lord was supposed to rescue the Titanic's passengers and crew in that moment, at that location, and he was told about distress rockets, then his inaction is a pretty huge issue.

I would just like to point out that NONE of the lifeboats were pulled under as a result of the titianic sinking, so the Californian probably wouldn't have been either. I'm no engineer...but that doesn't make any sense lol
It's the laws of physics that any large object being submerged suddenly creates suction. At least in principle. There are also examples of this, though we're mostly talking people, debris & smaller boats being pulled under. I don't think it would've happened to a larger boat, especially as they normally don't pull up right beside the sinking vessel anyway. But it is a legit concern. The main reason why Titanic didn't do that is because she filled with water relatively slowly & was thus already largely submerged before her final plunge.

@@philipibaugh2925 Nope, she's the "toxic" woman -- in the early 90's in California, she had been using some kind of dimethyl sulfoxide gel/lotion (normally used as a solvent, but sometimes used in sketchy "alternative medicine" regimens) as a general painkiller to help her manage symptoms of her cancer. At some point while using it she began to have heart issues and went to the ER. They used a defibrillator to stabilize her heartbeat, and the current caused a reaction with the chemicals in the solvent still on her skin and in her blood. This reaction produced fumes that caused a number of doctors and nurses to become nauseous and pass out, which ultimately forced the hospital to briefly evacuate. Gloria passed as all of this was going on. It gets a lot of play as "unexplainable" and "mysterious" when it's really just chemistry doing its thing.

Idk if or how true this story is, because I come from a family of alcoholics. Allegedly, my great grandfather was a dock worker and sailor in England at the time. He apparently had a ticket for the voyage, but the morning of loading supplies onto the Titanic he saw rats running off of the planks. Which is a sailors superstition that rats flee a sinking ship. As I said though take this story with a grain of salt: I asked what he did with the ticket I got no answer. And this was also the man who got run over by a tank in WWI, and lived to make it home. Again alcoholism runs deep in my family’s Irish blood.

The other way you can very easily debunk the switch-theory is money. If the name plates riveted to the hull, furniture, table cloths, plates, bowls, cutlery, promotional leaflets and apparently even bedsheets bearing the ships names were swapped, it wouldn't have been by magic, it would have been done by hundreds perhaps even thousands of dockyard workers. Are these conspiracy theorists going to seriously tell us that once the news of the sinking came out every single one of those people would have stayed quiet? Journalists are going to journalist, and I guarantee they went around throwing a few ££'s in the direction of dockyard workers just in case there's dirt to be dug up, because journalists are ALWAYS going journalist!
So on that basis alone, I call BS on the switch.

41:00 nope, they weren't racing Titanic to get to NYC for a record. If they were; all of Titanic's boilers would have being used; they weren't. If memory serves; 4 out of the 6 boiler rooms were being used. Her maximum speed (as stated earlier in the video) was 23 knots, but up until she hit the iceberg; she was going 21. Heck; her 4th funnel (the one at the very back) was essentially fake to make her look faster than she really was. White Star Line didn't make the fastest ships at the time - they weren't going for the Olympic class to break records due to that if the ships were going faster, that would mean they would shake more, which would displease the passengers. White Star Line was going for comfort over speed.
She was just making good time with her schedule., probably thanks to the calm waters and good weather. Much like how a plane flight might make it to its destination slightly ahead of schedule thanks to good weather or such.
Oh BTW the reason all that coal got moved that caused her list to port was due to a coal fire. They spent a lot of the 13th moving the coal.
And fun fact; it was due to the coal being moved is why Titanic lasted 2 hours and 40 minutes instead of the expected 90 minutes.
She got damaged to her starboard side, so water came in on that side. The coal being on the port side helped keep her stable. She likely would have capsized like most ship sinking's if not for the coal fire.
If Simon shaved his face and got contacts nobody would recognize him.

Haven't watched the whole video yet, but i already find the major flaw in this conspiracy. There were 3 sister ships in Olympic class: Olympic, Titanic and Britannic. From what i know, Olympic looks slightly different from its sisters. So it is very easy to debunk this theory, just look at the side view of each ship.
Miles Power has a great series of videos on this subject too if anyone is interested.
