According to Guinness World Records, Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" (1942) as performed by Bing Crosby is the best-selling single worldwide, with estimated sales of over 50 million copies. The song is recognized as "the best-selling single of all time".
I have the 78rpm vinyl Capitol Records version of Bing's White Christmas. (Tho' I no longer have a way to play it.) PS. Check out the 1956 movie, "White Christmas."
"Do You Hear What I Hear" was a hit for Bing Crosby. It also doubles as an anti-war song. It was written as a plea to end the Cuban Missile Crisis. His duet with David Bowie, "Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy" was amazing, especially since they really didn't get along during filming.
Fun Fact: Most people think White Christmas was released as part of the movie "White Christmas" in 1954 but in fact the song came out in the 1942 movie "Holiday Inn" which is ACTUALLY the video clip you're watching. The premise of the movie is that Bing's character wanted to retire from Vaudeville performing with his partner played by Fred Astaire and open an inn where they would put on seasonal small performances. This clip is him teaching her the song so they could prep for a Christmas show. That actress is the late Marjorie Reynolds but that's not her voice. The real singer is Martha Mears and she was a contralto. She actually did the singing for a lot of famous actresses.
Irving Berlin wrote White Christmas for the movie, as well as the other songs featured in the film. Holiday Inn is a classic, that is underappreciated in many instances.
Both movies, "Holiday Inn" and "White Christmas" were family tradition movies at Christmas in my house, along with "A Christmas Carol" from 1934 with Reginald Owen, or the version with Alastair Sim from 1951 (both black and white, total classics!). Just wouldn't be Christmas without them!😊
He introduced this song in this clip of Holiday Inn, and they then produced a whole movie around the song in the 1950s titled by the same name, costarring Danny Kaye, Vera Ellen and Rosemary Clooney, who is also someone you should really consider reacting to. Rosemary was George's aunt.
This is actually a scene from the 1942 movie “Holiday Inn” where the song was first featured. There is also a 1954 film “White Christmas” which stars Bing Crosby, and the song is featured again.
A must Bing Christmas song is: Bing Crosby and David Bowie’s “Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth” It’s from Crosby’s 1977 Christmas Special - “Bing Crosby’s Merrie Olde Christmas”. It was filmed on September 11,1977. Bing, unfortunately, passed away the next month on October 14,1977. For me, the Christmas season hasn’t started until I’ve heard that song and watched that video.
You've nailed definitive version of two iconic Christmas songs these first two days. Since tomorrow is female Friday, I'd suggest keeping t hat streak going with Eartha Kitt, Santa Baby.
and I hear him constantly at work this Holiday season. And from what I learned from my father about back in the day: Bing has an incredible voice and screen persona, but was a total controlling asshole. Beat his wife and kids and emotionally abused them way before those things were disclosed. Esp for a big Hollywood star. His son committed suicide as a young adult. The WWII years were incredibly hard for Americans, and his songs helped them thru it. Imagine the stress of your loved one being overseas fighting a war for 4+ years, maybe coming home injured, and being away over the holidays too. Or husbands, fathers, sons and daughters coming home in coffins. Like Covid times 100! Terrible and grief filled times and his music did soothe that a bit. So good and bad in one person.
@@sarahdee374 I heard that my whole life too. But this year I heard the son who wrote the book about that recanted it. I haven't looked into it to confirm it but thank you for reminding me to.
@@sarahdee374Starting with the quotation marks is an interview with Nathan Crosby "Crosby: Well the four half brothers have been deceased for quite a while. I don't want to be rebutting a book that my half-brother wrote 35 years ago but the book that Gary Crosby wrote about my dad gave a little controversy to an otherwise legendary figure who had no negative publicity in a 50 year entertainment career. If one were to read my half-brother's book it was more of a self-critique, a lot about his alcoholism. The focus of the controversy about dad was on corporal punishment which every single parent from every single upstanding family from the 1930s all through the 1970s. It wasn't until the 1980s that corporal punishment started to get restricted or reduced. To this day it's still emphasized in the Catholic church as a reasonable way of raising children. In that time when those boys were growing up, corporal punishment was in the mainstream. Gary was there when dad was sick. We got more time with Gary. And when Gary wrote the book in 1981 or 82 it was only two or three years after Joan Crawford's daughter wrote "Mommie Dearest," so let's say it became a successful business model to knock your parent in a book and you could get an audience. I chalk it up to that. Dad was an incredible parent. It really burned a bridge in Gary's relationship with the other three boys after that book was written. They were crushed that Gary wrote that book." Apparently, the older boys got into a lot of trouble when they became young men. So Bing put their inheritance in a trust fund until they were 65 and the trust fund their mom set up for them went broke during some oil market trouble. I could not find evidence of the rumor I had heard about him recanting on his death bed however.
Since we are all family here. Our Grandfather 🤣 looked a little like but more importantly sang like Bing. I loved riding in the car with him. Especially around Christmas Time. Thank you my heart is full❤️❤️❤️✌️✌️✌️
Love the movie “White Christmas” (1954)-Bing, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney (George’s Aunt) and Vera Ellen were the main characters. The “White Christmas” album Bing put out in 1945 has traditional “Christmas” songs and some not so traditional songs. One of my favorite Christmas songs is by the Tractors “Santa Clause is Comin’ (On a Boogie Woogie Choo Choo Train) there is video on TH-cam of this song featuring the “Canadian Pacific Holiday Train” the girls and you will love if you’re truly into Christmas. It’s got some scat, a Rockin piano and.a kickin drum line.
Yes, yes, yes. A favorite, I try to wa5ch this every year. I highly suggest watching the movie. So good, you'll laugh and you'll cry. It has incredible singing and dancing.
This video is not from the movie "White Christmas" (which came out in 1954). This video is from the movie "Holiday inn" which came out in 1942, which was the 1st film in which Bing Crosby sung the song "White Christmas" The song won the Oscar for best original song that year. The actress in the video is Marjorie Reynolds, who played Bing Crosby's love interest in the movie "Holiday inn" but Marjorie Reynolds was not actually singing in that scene. Her singing was dubbed by somebody else. Bing Crosby did once again sing "White Christmas" in the movie "White Christmas" (which again came out in 1954).
Bing was the definition of a Crooner, his voice was so unique and could easily entrance anyone who listened. I believe the lady singing with him was Marjorie Reynolds. Glad you enjoyed it.
My dad served in WWII, and he told me that when he and the men he served with heard this song, they cried. He was teary every time we listened to it at home. I will always think of him when I hear it. This movie is Holiday Inn. He also stars in the movie White Christmas and The Bells of St. Mary's, and he sings beautifully in all his movies.
This song was HUGE. It was first performed by Bing in December 1941 on a live radio broadcast, just after the United States entered World War II, so it took on extra meaning for servicemen and the families who were left at home. In fact, the original recording of the song (in 1942, I believe) was so popular, the metal pressing of the record (from which they made vinyl records to be distributed to the public) actually _wore_ _out_ from overuse! Bing re-recorded the song in 1947, and that's the version that most people since then have heard, as they no longer have the ability to make copies from the original recording.
Watch the movie “White Christmas” and you’ll hear the voice of the incredible Rosemary Clooney along with Bing and Danny Kaye. You’ll see some of the most beautiful dance and costumes ever. Puts you right in the Christmas mood. Rosemary is amazing! You’ll love her voice. Vera Ellen is a dancing machine in a White Christmas. It’s the movie that starts the Christmas season at our house. Every Thanksgiving night or the night after. Now our kids are doing the same with their family.
Another iconic Christmas song sung by the original artist is the original "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" by Judy Garland. I'd put that on your list too! ❤️For Bing, "Do You Hear What I Hear" and his "Drummer Boy" duet with David Bowie are the other two musts. I'm sure other people have mentioned that this song was written for the movie "Holiday Inn", which is what this performance is from (i.e. this is the original and still the best 😊). This particular video, also, cut in a little bit more footage from other "Holiday Inn" scenes as visuals to go along with the song which was a really cute idea. To answer your question about the female singer, the voice you're hearing is a singer named Martha Mears but, she wasn't an actor, so the actress you're actually seeing in this video (and the movie) is a lovely actress/dancer named Marjorie Reynolds. Martha Mears was mostly a radio star but, she made a secondary career out of dubbing actresses for movies. "White Christmas" is easily her most famous song but, "Long Ago and Far Away" is probably next.
This version of White Christams was from Crosbys movie "The Holiday Inn." The female singer was Marjorie Reynolds. Movie was in 1942 and it was the 1st time Bing Crosby sang this song in a movie.
A MUST Christmas Bing Crosby reaction would be the Little Drummer Boy featuring Bing Crosby and David Bowie. The long video version is best where there is some build up with banter between the two of them before they start singing. A MUST REACTION!!
Bing Crosby is THE KING of Crooners. The film clip you watched was from the 1942 movie HOLIDAY INN. The actress in that scene is Marjorie Reynolds. As awesome as this is, it ISN'T Bing's best version of the song. He is the artist who introduced this Irving Berlin tune to the world, however. BTW, Marjorie's singing voice is dubbed by Martha Mears.
Yes, Martha Mears was known as the "Queen of Dubbers". Her incredible voice made a lot of actresses appear to be singers and there are a lot of her songs on TH-cam.
Bing's other can't miss Christmas song is the immortal, "I'll Be Home for Christmas" which is arguably the greatest Christmas song of all time, as it reflected the thoughts of an entire generation during WW2. While you continue your Christmas classics, don't forget too also have some fun with songs like, The Dropkick Murphy's "The Season's Apon Us", Weird Al's original "The Night Santa Went Crazy". Jeff Dunham's "Jingle Bombs" and Sherwin Linton's brilliant "Santa Got a DWI".
One of my Dad's favorite Christmas songs. He missed 5 Christmas' between 1940 to 1945 during the war and this is on of the songs they would sing on Christmas. One of the stories my Dad would freely talk about from his war era.
Agreed! THE BEST VERSION of White Christmas EVER! He is THE CROONER and everyone else followed! I am not sure who the blonde singer is, but she does have a lovely voice and the two together just blend perfectly together! Great reaction! Peace!
Karen Carpenter. Merry Christmas Darling Written by her brother, Richard, and their college choir director, Frank Pooler. For me, a must hear Christmas standard. Just gorgeous.
As others have said this was first featured in the film 'Holiday Inn' - which incidentally also starred Fred Astaire (not sure you've got to him yet...but you should). Bing was also one of the stars of 'High Society' which included two of your other favourites; Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong. Not a Christmas film but still one of the best musicals ever and Bing does two duets with each of them! You'll love it.
JanCW Oh yes please, the legendary Judy Garland singing a beautiful Christmas song, what a heavenly combination !! This would have to be my most favourite Christmas song ever, even though I really love "White Christmas"
I know it's been suggested on here several times already, but I have to agree with those who mentioned it previously, that you need to check out the duet Bing Crosby did with David Bowie. It's a combined song called "Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy". It was performed on Bing Crosby's last Christmas special and was recorded shortly before he died.
When you want to try another Bing Crosby Christmas tune, check out this duet with David Bowie. th-cam.com/video/n9kfdEyV3RQ/w-d-xo.html It aired in Bing Crosby’s final Christmas special in 1977, very shortly after Crosby passed away. It’s Crosby singing “The Little Drummer Boy” with Bowie singing “Peace on Earth.” It’s amazing how their voices and the songs mix together. Crosby had a Christmas TV special annually from the 1960s until his death.
You need to watch the Christmas movie..”White Christmas “ starring Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. It’s legendary. Great musical. Also Rosemary Clooney, a great female singer and George Clooneys auntie.
Check out the movie "White Christmas". George Clooney's aunt plays the lead female role. Bing's music and this movie were a staple in our home at Christmas. Rose Mary Clooney and he are beautiful together. The music and dancing is classic. Canadian Grandma Lori. C.
Martha Mears was the singing voice dubbed over for many actresses on songs in movies of her time, including this White Christmas song. Wow !! this woman deserves her own recognition for all her work thats been done and thanks to your elaboration of her discography , you , in a way did just that . now we can all look her up to discover more things about this talented lady who lends her voice to so many. Thanks so much.
I absolutely love Bing Crosby and he was such a great actor and singer. White Christmas is still my favorite Christmas movie ever with Danny Kay. A must see for the bucket list!
Almost all of the famous crooners weren't just great singers. They were some of the biggest movie stars during the 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's. They filled the big screen with musicals, a lot of them Christmas movies. Bing Crosby starred in several of them, winning an Academy Award for playing a priest in "Going My Way", a true Christmas classic. There's one song in that movie that has stuck in my mind after seeing the movie so long ago. It's a beautiful Irish lullaby that you really should share with Luca to see how he likes it. There aren't many crooner lullabies out there. This one is titled "Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral" and you'll love it.
Bing Crosby, Perry Como, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra... this was the “popular” music for my parent’s generation. Pre rock& roll they were their version of “teen idols”
Bing Crosby, Perry Como, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra... this was the “popular” music for my parent’s generation. Pre rock& roll they were their version of “teen idols”
The funky thing about Bing is, that while he may be pigeonholed into the “crooner” vibe, and singers like Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Vic Damone, Perry Como et al followed directly in his footsteps, his original love was jazz. If you dig deep into his discography from the 20s-30s, you will find a distinctively more swingy jazzy sound.
This is absolutely the GOAT version of White Christmas. No one has sung it better than Bing Crosby...he owns this song. You should react to some songs from the movie White Christmas. Count Your Blessings is a wonderful duet that Bing sings with Rosemary Clooney.
This is the original version of "White Christmas". I love that you are appreciating Bing and his beautiful voice. He was the first singer to have a "goupie" following.
The word 'crooner' was first used to describe Bing Crosby. One special thing about Bing - the microphone was invented in 1925, before that people sang into bell shaped horns that recorded by scratching a needle into a platter from the volume of the singer and band. Crosby was about the first to successful artist to sing in a soft singing voice.
"Do You Hear What I Hear" and "O Holy Night" are also Bing Crosby Christmas classics they used to play everywhere, before the proliferation of modern Christmas recordings in the 80's. When hip hop and rock began to dominate how the songs were recorded.
He did an entire Christmas album where this is the title track, back in the day........be sure to check out "Mele Kalikimaka" from that record....you're gonna love it!
Marjorie Reynolds is the actress, her voice was dubbed by Martha Mears. Martha did a lot of dubbing for actresses as well as being a successful singer using her own face. This song was sung by Bing for the first time just a few days after Pearl Harbor was attacked. Puts the song in a whole new context.
Here's my Christmas wish list 🌲🎄🌲 #1- last Christmas by wham #2- do they know it's Christmas #3- little drummer boy with Bing and Bowie #4- all I want for Christmas is you Mariah Carey #5- Pat-a-pan David archeleta from Celtic Christmas (it's not well known but fabulous!) #6- jingle bell rock by Brenda Lee #7- I'll be home for Christmas by the carpenters #8- baby it's cold outside with either Dean Martin or Michael Buble... Both do a great job #9- the most wonderful time of the year Andy Williams #10- the twelve days of Christmas by vocal point... So FUN!!!! Must try #11- Mary did you know Pentatonix #12- pine cones and Holly berries the Osmonds Okay... Those are the top!!!
the version sung by Bing Crosby is the world's best-selling single (in terms of sales of physical media) with estimated sales in excess of 50 million copies worldwide.
One of my favorite all time crooners is Andy Williams. His voice was like velvet and if you want a Crooner Christmas, I wholeheartedly suggest the Andy Williams version of O Holy Night. I sure miss his annual Christmas shows.
Bing is the original Mr Christmas for me and im sure many others! How do you fancy a bit of BING and BOWIE doing a Christmas duet? David Bowie and Bing Crosby singing "Little drummer boy" (peace on earth) from Bing's Christmas TV special I think is a lovely version of this song, the mix of these voices shouldn't work but it really does! Love you guys!! Dot from the Isle of Skye, the Hebrides in Scotland.
This song is truly iconic for the Christmas holiday, it was originally written and sung by Bing Crosby in the early 40s… I think it was called Holiday Inn was the movie that he singing it in. Then later on he did the movie White Christmas and I believe that was in the 60s or late 50s and he singing it again. It’s a just a great song it’s a wonderful holiday song and it brings back so many wonderful memories every time I hear it🎅🎅🎅
Holiday Inn also features the original “Happy Holidays” song. The famous version of Happy Holidays we hear on the radio every Christmas is someone else (Perry Como maybe) and features a completely different tune for the verses (the chorus is the same tune).
Thanks for reacting to this one, and I'm glad you got to hear it. It's been a favorite of mine since I was a kid, and Bing Crosby was a national treasure (and didn't just sell orange juice in commercials!).
The sound of Christmas to me will always be my mom playing Wham "Last Christmas" all day, every day in the week running up to Christmas Day, the only difference is when this was happening it was in Johannesburg, South Africa and it was summer, we would all usually be playing in the pool during the incredibly hot days with the tunes being blasted by my mom on our old school JVC record player...
Song originally from Crosby film "Holiday Inn' made in mid-1942 when Americans were not certain they would win World War 2, the war was at a crossroads, most people globally still thought the Nazis and fascists would win, so people in films were aware of the effects movies might have on US morale, and were very much 'in the moment' when this song and scene were filmed (link): th-cam.com/video/GJ36gbGlm8Y/w-d-xo.html The Crosby version many people are aware of was/is the arguably superior version from the 1954 Irving Berlin film 'White Christmas' set in late-1942 USA (link: th-cam.com/video/7S-IidmcSN8/w-d-xo.html). This is what was going on US force morale when the film 'Holiday Inn' came out in theaters in December 1942: th-cam.com/users/shorts4qqnaE3vo5w The film 'Holiday Inn' received a 1943 Academy Award for Best Original Song (Irving Berlin's "White Christmas"), as well as Academy Award nominations for Best Score (Robert Emmett Dolan) and Best Original Story (Irving Berlin).
For retiring versions of Christmas Songs after the best version was performed, Bing Crosby: White Christmas, Nat King Cole: The Christmas Song, Andy Williams: It's the most wonderful time of the year!
This is THE DEFINITIVE Christmas song. Also, one of the biggest treats you or anybody will ever have is watching the movie "White Christmas". Crosby, the great Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney (George's aunt), and my favorite, the drop-dead gorgeous Vera Ellen, dancer extraordinaire.
Great classic the actress with Bing is Marjorie Reynolds. The film Holiday Inn introduced this song to the world. You might be surprised how many Christmas Classics were introduced in old movie musicals. Remember at this time there was no television only radio records and movies. I recommend the classic “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” first (and best) sung by Judy Garland in the 1944 musical Meet Me in St Louis. You guys would remember Judy Garland as Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz which was made several years earlier. Judy Garland was a wonderful entertainer you might look at some of her non Christmas stuff for a female Friday
Bing Crosby made holiday specials with his family every year until he died in 1977. On his last one that year, he sang this duet: Bing Crosby & David Bowie - "The Little Drummer Boy (Peace On Earth)". Elton John wrote a Christmas song in the 70's called "Step Into Christmas" The best version of The Little Drummer Boy was by the Harry Simeone Chorale. It was my Mom's favorite Christmas song, and always makes me cry.
"I'll Be Home for Christmas" is truly a Christmas Standard. Released in 1943 to honor Solders who longed to be home for Christmas. Originally sung by Bing Crosby but covered by so many to Include Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis and Elvis Presley.
The interesting thing about this song is that it was originally written for the movie "Holiday Inn" in 1942. Bing Crosby sings the song with Martha Mears whose voice was dubbed in for his costar Marjorie Reynolds. Fun Fact is that the attack on Pearl Harbor (the 80th anniversary of which was yesterday) came in the middle of filming Holiday Inn which is one the reasons the song for the 4th of July was so Patriotic. The song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. The movie "White Christmas" which many people associate with the song did not come out until almost a decade later in 1954. You are right. It is the absolute best rendition of the song.
I love y’all. I swear Rob got teary eyed. Y’all are so sweet! I love y’all’s reactions. You’re right, no one can do this like Bing. This song made him catapult into even bigger stardom than he already was. This song is played everyChristmas at my house.
That little four note run on the word "dreaming" is Bing Crosby's vocal trademark. You can hear little runs like that on just about all of his records.
Bing sang this song in the movie scene you are seeing titled "Holiday Inn" The actress singing with him was Marjorie Reynolds, though her voice was dubbed by Martha Mears. Martha was dubbed "The busiest Dubber in Hollywood" Many many actresses of that time would co-star with singing actors that could not sing. Martha Mears would dub in her voice in many of these movies.
Bing Crosby's original recording of "White Christmas" is the biggest selling recording in history (more than 100 million singles). Bing performed the song in three films, and in all of his TV Christmas Specials.
According to Guinness World Records, Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" (1942) as performed by Bing Crosby is the best-selling single worldwide, with estimated sales of over 50 million copies. The song is recognized as "the best-selling single of all time".
Correct!
Amen!
CRRAZY!
It's not Christmas in my house until Bing sings White Christmas.
I have the 78rpm vinyl Capitol Records version of Bing's White Christmas. (Tho' I no longer have a way to play it.) PS. Check out the 1956 movie, "White Christmas."
The man had a voice as smooth as melted butter 🧈 😋
"Do You Hear What I Hear" was a hit for Bing Crosby. It also doubles as an anti-war song. It was written as a plea to end the Cuban Missile Crisis. His duet with David Bowie, "Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy" was amazing, especially since they really didn't get along during filming.
Jay and Amber really need to review that one.
Was just about to suggest his duet with David Bowie.. good one
I prefer Andy Williams version of Do You Hear What I Hear?
I agree, I hope Jay and Amber will give Little Drummer Boy a listen.
I love his duet with Bowie! A favorite!
Bing Crosby is a legend.
And won the Academy Award for Best Song.
Love those movies!
Just wouldn't be Christmas without them!😊
I love holiday inn, I’ve always been a sucker for Fred Astaire
He introduced this song in this clip of Holiday Inn, and they then produced a whole movie around the song in the 1950s titled by the same name, costarring Danny Kaye, Vera Ellen and Rosemary Clooney, who is also someone you should really consider reacting to. Rosemary was George's aunt.
Both movies are worth watching.
Loved Holiday Inn!
@@kimmycook2698 We used to watch it when I was little. Lots of memories at Grandma's house for Christmas.
White Christmas is my all time favorite movie, not just Xmas movie.
Fantastic movie!!!
This is actually a scene from the 1942 movie “Holiday Inn” where the song was first featured. There is also a 1954 film “White Christmas” which stars Bing Crosby, and the song is featured again.
White Christmas is a great movie, one our family enjoys every holiday season. You should watch it.
A must Bing Christmas song is:
Bing Crosby and David Bowie’s
“Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth”
It’s from Crosby’s 1977 Christmas Special - “Bing Crosby’s Merrie Olde Christmas”.
It was filmed on September 11,1977. Bing, unfortunately, passed away the next month on October 14,1977.
For me, the Christmas season hasn’t started until I’ve heard that song and watched that video.
Yes!!❤️❤️
Waiting on this one!!!!
!YES, best version ever!
An iconic memory & piece of my childhood!
Been waiting on this reaction, excited for you to hear the best Crooner ever...Just awesome, chills...Thank you, Blessings
This is what I grew up on, we always had Christmas music on all the time around the house. Makes me miss my parents 😔 You need to watch the movie. 😊
The Carpenters have done a couple of wonderful Christmas Albums. Also Bing Crosby and David Bowie did The Little Drummer Boy cover that is great too.
I was just going to suggest Bing and David's little drummer boy/peace on earth.
Bing and David Bowie's "Little Drummer Boy/ Peace In Earth is a MUST LISTEN TOO!!
I agree, David Bowie and Bing Crosby, "Little Drummer Boy." Drop Mic.
Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth is one of my favorite Christmas songs!
Agreed - that and the Fairytale of New York.
You've nailed definitive version of two iconic Christmas songs these first two days. Since tomorrow is female Friday, I'd suggest keeping t hat streak going with Eartha Kitt, Santa Baby.
*seconds this nomination*
I vote for her too. So saucy
Karen Carpenter "Merry Christmas Darling" would also be a good choice
Yes! Wonderful. I had forgotten about that one.
Yes!! Couple that with her "I Want To Be Evil"! She was sassy!!
Bing Crosby is the ORIGINAL and the biggest selling record OF ALL TIME!!!
and I hear him constantly at work this Holiday season.
Yep, this was the FIRST version and he was the FIRST to sing the song.
@@bluebird3281 Let us know please!
@@sarahdee374Starting with the quotation marks is an interview with Nathan Crosby
"Crosby: Well the four half brothers have been deceased for quite a while.
They were crushed that Gary wrote that book."
Apparently, the older boys got into a lot of trouble when they became young men. So Bing put their inheritance in a trust fund until they were 65 and the trust fund their mom set up for them went broke during some oil market trouble.
I could not find evidence of the rumor I had heard about him recanting on his death bed however.
So beautiful that I got happy tears 🤗♥️🎄
Watching the movie is an absolute MUST! I adore all of the old movies with the legendary actors and this is definitely one of my favorites.
Love White Christmas! Snow Snow Snow Snow Snooooooooow! It won't be long until we'll all be there with snoooow...
Vera Allen's nerve taps in that are spectacular. I love White Christmas. SO many great numbers in it.
I just looked it up from the film Holiday Inn which confirms Marjorie Reynolds.
Marjorie Reynolds’ singing voice was not used in this film. It was dubbed by Martha Mears.
Absolutely 💯 OG Crooner
My dad served in WWII, and he told me that when he and the men he served with heard this song, they cried. He was teary every time we listened to it at home. I will always think of him when I hear it.
This movie is Holiday Inn. He also stars in the movie White Christmas and The Bells of St. Mary's, and he sings beautifully in all his movies.
Bing was the crooners crooner, with that incredibly smooth baritone. His voice is pure butter
Bing Crosby's White Christmas is just a classic! And no other rendition comes close - as far as I'm concerned. 😊❄️
Correct! 1000%!
@@larrydewein401 absolutely!😊
You sir can drop the mike.
The USA was IN the Second World War ??
Better late than never Guys :)
Love From London....:)
Bing and Bowie perform an amazing duet of “The little drummer boy”
YES!
One of my favorite Christmas movies. We watch it every year! =)
She’s George’s auntie👍🏽🥰
Bing Crosby and David Bowie "Little Drummer Boy!"
Hiya voice is just his voice. No electronics. This song is a warm hug.
It's so appropriate that you start the Christmas season with Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole... Both are synonymous with Christmas! ♥️💚
Bing is one of the Kings of Crooning ...Yall should check out . Bing singing with David Bowie "The Little Drummer Boy" an amazing performance
There's also a bizarre reenactment of that duet by Will Ferrell and John C Reilly.
YES!
Bing Crosby and David Bowie doing
"Little Drummer Boy" is a must!!!!!
Amazing duo
YES!
The clip from "Meet Me In St. Louis" is the way to go on that one.
@@GirlWithAnOpinion Can't sing along to this one, I always end us crying. One of my favourite
christmas films.
As much as i like Bowie, for drummer boy i go with Johnny Cash
This version of White Christams was from Crosbys movie "The Holiday Inn." The female singer was Marjorie Reynolds. Movie was in 1942 and it was the 1st time Bing Crosby sang this song in a movie.
A MUST Christmas Bing Crosby reaction would be the Little Drummer Boy featuring Bing Crosby and David Bowie. The long video version is best where there is some build up with banter between the two of them before they start singing. A MUST REACTION!!
YES!
Yes, it is my favorite Christmas song😍
Can I like this more than once?
for KING & COUNTRY - Little Drummer Boy (LIVE from Phoenix) is a PHENOMENAL modern version of a CLASSIC Christmas song! Must check it out!
Yes, yes, so much yes!
You should give Bing Crosby and David Bowie sing little Drummer Boy.
Agreed. It's beautiful
Absolutely!!! Two legends!
The best Christmas collaboration ever!
My favorite Christmas song!
Great song
I concur.
The Female Singer that sang White Christmas with Bing Crosby was Marjorie Reynolds & That Video was a film clip from the movie ""Holiday Inn""
Classic Christmas songs like this. Remind me of my mom. You can't go wrong with these classic singers.
Oh absolutely. I had forgot that one.
Pretty much any Christmas song Bing Crosby does is a can't miss classic.
One of my Dad's favorite Christmas songs. He missed 5 Christmas' between 1940 to 1945 during the war and this is on of the songs they would sing on Christmas. One of the stories my Dad would freely talk about from his war era.
You MUST react to Bing and David Bowie's rendition of "Little Drummer Boy"! Brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. Simply beautiful. ❤️
YES!
Good call!
Bing Crosby and David Bowie singing Little Drummer Boy
Agreed! THE BEST VERSION of White Christmas EVER! He is THE CROONER and everyone else followed! I am not sure who the blonde singer is, but she does have a lovely voice and the two together just blend perfectly together! Great reaction! Peace!
Little drummer boy by Bing Crosby and David Bowie!
Karen Carpenter.
Merry Christmas Darling
Written by her brother, Richard, and their college choir director, Frank Pooler. For me, a must hear Christmas standard. Just gorgeous.
I love this song!
This absolutely!! And let's not forget a certain Grace Kelly.
Judy Garland's lovely version of *"Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas"* would be wonderful!
JanCW
Oh yes please, the legendary Judy Garland singing a beautiful Christmas song, what a heavenly combination !! This would have to be my most favourite Christmas song ever, even though I really love "White Christmas"
The best is to take it from the movie clip - "Meet Me in St. Louis" (1944) with the incomparable Margaret O'Brien (who's still alive).

Yes definately, I love that version too, such a great wee film
I know it's been suggested on here several times already, but I have to agree with those who mentioned it previously, that you need to check out the duet Bing Crosby did with David Bowie. It's a combined song called "Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy". It was performed on Bing Crosby's last Christmas special and was recorded shortly before he died.
YES!
An absolute must!
Bing and David Bowie LITTLE DRUMMER BOY
When you want to try another Bing Crosby Christmas tune, check out this duet with David Bowie.

It aired in Bing Crosby’s final Christmas special in 1977, very shortly after Crosby passed away. It’s Crosby singing “The Little Drummer Boy” with Bowie singing “Peace on Earth.” It’s amazing how their voices and the songs mix together. Crosby had a Christmas TV special annually from the 1960s until his death.
I'll second that recommendation; and third it; and fourth it; ......

The innocence and beauty of old classic movies make me wish I was living in those times or it was still like that
You need to watch the Christmas movie..”White Christmas “ starring Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye.
My favourite singer of all time.

The Carpenter's "Merry Christmas Darling" is such a phenomenal song!! I would hope you guys include that one...
Definitely one of the great classic Christmas songs.
Agree - though the lyric "Logs on the fire Fill me with desire" is, erm... a little questionable
@@Polyglot85to90 Just means the desire to be with the loved one she's singin about.. nothing else..
@@Polyglot85to90 My mind was pure and innocent back then.
It REALLY is!!
Bing Crosby and David Bowie collaboration, Little Drummer Boy!!! Fantastic!!!
Agreed, this is the most beautiful version of this song. Timeless and classic.
"Do You Hear What I Hear" and "O Holy Night" are also Bing Crosby Christmas classics they used to play everywhere, before the proliferation of modern Christmas recordings in the 80's. When hip hop and rock began to dominate how the songs were recorded.
Bing Crosbys whole White Christmas album is GOLD … my faves on that album are Christmas in Killarney and Mele Kalikimaka
Mele Kalikimaka for the win!
Love that album even though I am not a Christmas person.
My favorite Christmas song since I was a little girl... That being said, only when Bing Crosby sings it... Its Magical!

The lady accompanying Der Bingle was Marjorie Reynolds in the movie Holiday Inn.
the version sung by Bing Crosby is the world's best-selling single (in terms of sales of physical media) with estimated sales in excess of 50 million copies worldwide.
One of my favorite all time crooners is Andy Williams. His voice was like velvet and if you want a Crooner Christmas, I wholeheartedly suggest the Andy Williams version of O Holy Night. I sure miss his annual Christmas shows.
Andy was one of the very best. So many great songs. For Christmas, I recommend, "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year."
Definitely the best for O Holy Night, Andy Williams
Love Andy Williams!

It’s a just a great song it’s a wonderful holiday song and it brings back so many wonderful memories every time I hear it🎅🎅🎅
It was written on a very hot day
Yeah... the song premiered in "Holiday Inn"
White Christmas was written by the (once) very famous Irving Berlin.
Bing Crosbys voice is like a Norman Rockwell painting it's Americana at it's finest thank you for bringing it back
The sound of Christmas to me will always be my mom playing Wham "Last Christmas" all day, every day in the week running up to Christmas Day, the only difference is when this was happening it was in Johannesburg, South Africa and it was summer, we would all usually be playing in the pool during the incredibly hot days with the tunes being blasted by my mom on our old school JVC record player...
I have to agree. This version is iconic! You should watch the movie White Christmas, it stars Bing Crosby and features another version of this song.
Add anything by Perry Como to your Christmas list.
My parents had his Christmas record and it got played every year growing up.
I grew up listening to Perry Como, because he was another Italian singing God, and my Grandfather and Mama listened constantly
Toyland by Perry Como is one you should check out.
Another great great amazing song singer .His Voice is so rich rich.......❤❤❤ Love to listen to all these great singers......no words.......❤❤❤
Song originally from Crosby film "Holiday Inn' made in mid-1942 when Americans were not certain they would win World War 2, the war was at a crossroads, most people globally still thought the Nazis and fascists would win, so people in films were aware of the effects movies might have on US morale, and were very much 'in the moment' when this song and scene were filmed (link): th-cam.com/video/GJ36gbGlm8Y/w-d-xo.html
The Crosby version many people are aware of was/is the arguably superior version from the 1954 Irving Berlin film 'White Christmas' set in late-1942 USA (link: th-cam.com/video/7S-IidmcSN8/w-d-xo.html).
This is what was going on US force morale when the film 'Holiday Inn' came out in theaters in December 1942: th-cam.com/users/shorts4qqnaE3vo5w
The film 'Holiday Inn' received a 1943 Academy Award for Best Original Song (Irving Berlin's "White Christmas"), as well as Academy Award nominations for Best Score (Robert Emmett Dolan) and Best Original Story (Irving Berlin).
Bing Crosby's version of "I'll be home for Christmas" never fails to give me goosebumps.
It makes me cry
Me too, when my husband was deployed. ❤
It’s not Christmas for our family without Bing’s White Christmas! The movie and the album!🥰🥰🥰
Another amazing Bing Christmas song is a duet with David Bowie Little Drummer Boy/ Peace on Earth
Martha Mears overdubbed the female vocal in the duet in Holiday Inn.
YES!
Wow another guy named Ross...COOOOL
Bing did many of those specials on radio and then of course did them on tv.
"I'll Be Home for Christmas" is truly a Christmas Standard. Released in 1943 to honor Solders who longed to be home for Christmas. Originally sung by Bing Crosby but covered by so many to Include Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis and Elvis Presley.
Bing Crosby and David Bowie: "The Little Drummer Boy".
This is a clip from the movie “Holiday Inn”. He also sang it in the movie “White Christmas “. It is a classic!
I LOVE this version! It is a clip from "Holiday Inn" and the woman singing with Bing is Marjorie Reynolds.
You should hear " the little drummer boy. With Bing and a young David Bowie.
Songs don't get much more famous than this one, for god's sake. Best selling song of all time.
That little four note run on the word "dreaming" is Bing Crosby's vocal trademark. You can hear little runs like that on just about all of his records.
He did note decorations BEFORE Mariah Carey! lol.
If you are listening to Christmas songs now, find Bing Crosby and a young David Bowie singing "Little Drummer Boy". Really an amazing duet.
YES!
Bing Crosby's original recording of "White Christmas" is the biggest selling recording in history (more than 100 million singles). Bing performed the song in three films, and in all of his TV Christmas Specials.
You HAVE TO listen to his duet with David Bowie on Little Drummer Boy!!!
