The chord progression of the Canon in D is one of the foundations of our popular music today. IMO, it's the most beautiful song ever written. I really think that God gave this to Johann Pachabel so we could hear a taste of how the angels sing. ❤

Just like in this title. Merry Christmas to you all ❤
As a classically trained musician the "Pachelbel Canon in D major" is my favorite piece of all classical music. I have never heard vocals on it before, Magestic . You should listen to one of the versions that is Piano with Cello accompaniment. It is gorgeous. It is magical. It has been used in so many wedding marches down the aisle for the bride over so many decades. I am always so moved when it is played. Thank you for this beautiful pick. TSO's song "Old City Bar" tells the story of a magical Christmas Eve at a, well, at an old city bar. The story is so moving that I can hardly type this without crying - - just thinking about it. It really tells how beautifully strangers can act toward each other. If only all people could treat each other so kindly.
You can't do "Old City Bar" without doing "Ornament" before and "This Christmas Day" afterward... Those three songs, though not back to back to back on the album are a true trilogy, detailing the argument between the parent and child, the child having runaway and trying to get home and lastly the revelation to the father that she is indeed on her way home. A perfect Christmas song. Most of the rest of their work has a tinge of bittersweet in it, but that one avoids it for the perfect positive vibes.
Old City Bar is my favorite TSO song and always brings this 71 yr old man to tears. As others has said to get the full impact of Old City Bar you really have to listen to it in the context of Christmas Eve and Other Stories. It's available on CD or DVD.
I'm about to watch this reaction and wanted to suggest, before I forget, Mannheim Steamroller's Christmas album. It's kind of funny to hear it now, almost 40 years later, but it was HUUUUUUUUGE in the mid-80's! The first album came out in 1984 and they took off from there. "Deck the Halls" is the song you usually hear. You've probably heard it in a store while shopping now that the 80's is considered grocery store and doctor's office music! Ha! Jay, get ready for the synth! 😅
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly was performed by an actual Symphony Orchestra. Trans-Siberian Orchestra is a rock band that developed orchestral arrangements of classical and Christmas songs. They grew out of an appearance on the band Savatage's 1995 album called Dead Winter Dead - which was a rock opera telling a love story against the backdrop of war for the control of Bosnia-Herzegovina that was recently freed from USSR a thousand years of being ruled hostile forces of one type or another.
This clip is from a special TSO put out years ago called The Ghosts of Christmas Eve, in which a young runaway takes shelter in an abandoned theatre on Christmas and the 'ghosts' (aka the band and some special guests) put on a show and ultimately provide her with the means to return home for Christmas. Also TSO are primarily a Christmas band- they have 3 Christmas albums each of which tells a story.
OMG I am so beyond happy you guys finally did this one. Been praying ever since you started doing Christmas songs for this one. Between Amber's love for children's choirs and Jay's love for orchestra music I knew y'all would be blown away. There are no words to express how much I love this song. I discovered it over 20 years ago and it is hands down my favorite Christmas song and it makes me cry most every time I hear it. If ever a song came straight from heaven this is the one.❤
This is beautiful. Now, you need to check out an actual TSO song with the band, and you can check out their metal side. Almost any live performance should do... Christmas Dreams, The Lost Christmas Eve, This Christmas Day...
TSO is really known for their very loud theatrical performances with laser lights, etc. I also believe there are actually 2 TSO bands. One that performs on each coast, East and West.
Do yourself a huge favor. Next Christmas time, find out where the TSO is playing in your area and go watch the whole Christmas performance from them. The story, the master musicians the special effects all add up to an experience you will never forget! Cheers\=/\=/
I've seen them 6 times. We used to go to Spokane to see them every year on the day after Thanksgiving. I've seen them in Seattle and Portland and even when I lived in Nashville. Never a bad show! I especially love "O Holy Night" on the electric guitar. Mind blowing
Jay I believe the term you were looking for is “singing in the round” where one group continues singing a phrase while the next group sings a phrase over top of them etc. I bet you could learn the choruses to this song, teach them to your lovely children, and have a wonderful musical family experience. Thanks for sharing!❤️🎄
Merry Christmas Amber, Jay and your beautiful family. Know that YOU TOO are loved, and it's a blessing to watch your passion each day. 2024 will be even better I'm sure
Pachelbel’s Canon in D is one of the most famous pieces of classical music of all time. Written in the late 1600's or early 1700s. Since the 1970's and 80's it began to be recorded by more and more orchestras and it's iconic melody has made it's way into pop songs, films, as well as advertisements. Although not a Christmas song, it's heard mostly at Christmastime. The Trans Siberian Orchestra made this Christmas piece that has become one of the most iconic pieces of Christmas music.
I was a huge fan of Savatage, see comment below, and now love TSO so much. Unfortunately due to living in Australia I do not get to see them tour every year or I would. I have seen them twice for their Xmas concerts and many years ago I also saw them when they did a concert tour for Beethovens Last Night. I recommend going down the rabbit hole and as mentioned below you should watch the entire movie/DVD that this clip was from. You and your kids will absolutely love it.
Now that you've had a taste of TSO, all I can say is you're going to want more and more and more!!! GO SEE THEM LIVE NEXT YEAR, you will not regret it one bit! No video will beat seeing them live. I've been blessed to have seen them in Pittsburgh with my son 3 times - floor seats. ❤❤❤
My husband and I had a organist play the instrumental version of this song as I was walking down the aisle, this song is important to me because it was my late grandfather’s favorite Christmas song. There wasn’t a dry eye when the organ started playing, that the part where the violin starts is when the double doors open and I walked down ❤😊 💍11/15/14💍 Also been to the Trans Siberian Orchestra concert 👌🏻 highly recommend…
The first time I ever saw a house decked out to lights synchronized with music was a beer commercial I saw while sitting in a doctor's waiting room in Hawaii around 2004/5. It was TSO's Wizards in Winter. I'm happy to see that the original video was cleaned up and is now the official video for the song. If you're ever in Texas and see someone in their car headbanging to Christmas music, that's me. Also, if you want to catch them live, start watching for tickets around Sept-Oct. They almost always make a stop in Oklahoma City
This tune was based on German Composer Johann Pachelbel's Canon in D. It was composed way back in 1680. So this may be something of a record of a song with the longest pedigree for your channel. Amber's emotional reactions never fail to impress, she intuits the music almost preternaturally and responds to it.
"Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24" captures the 'essence' of TSO imho. The live version of this song would make a great reaction video, esp when they give a signed guitar to a young person in the audience. My grandson has seen 3 concerts and two of those were the TSO Christmas show.
There is a longer version of this video where the young lady in the audience is a runaway and stumbles into this old abandoned concert hall and the man is the caretaker and guides her to the stage to show her that she is loved. When I heard this the third time or so, and could anticipate the music ahead, I admit I almost teared up!
The backing music is Pachelbel Canon in D Major. It is said it is one of the most beautiful melodies ever written, even though it is a very simple melody. A lot of couples have it played at thier wedding.
They come to my city every year at Christmastime. I had the pleasure to see them in person 4 years ago. They’re very much a rock orchestra. If you ever get the chance to see them please do!
Hello. This piece of music has been a favoirite of mine for over 50 years but I'd never heard this rendition before. So beatiful it made me cry. Thank you so much for including this on your channel. Best wishes from the UK.
Such a beautiful and moving piece. I love this and am so glad to see you enjoying it. It's an amazing introduction to the beauty of Trans Siberian Orchestra. Now you need to be introduced to the POWER of Trans Siberian Orchestra, and about the best song I could recommend for that is their version of "Carol of the Bells." You probably won't be doing any more Christmas music until next December, but PLEASE remember that one when the time comes. I promise you that you will be blown away by it!
Hey guys. For Trans Siberian Orchestra, their biggest "hit", if you will, is "Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24". It is based on the carols, "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" and "Carol of the Bells". But made more dramatic with an added metal/hard rock edge by the creators of Trans Siberian Orch. music. It was inspired by the actual image of a musician playing his cello in the rubble in the streets of Sarajevo while the bombings raged on around him during the war that tore Yugoslavia apart. Definitely check it out. I highly recommend it. Peace!
Didn’t read through the comments to see if anyone else mentioned this, but TSO was formed by the remaining members of the band Savatage. An amazing band in the 80’s. The disbanded after the death of their lead guitarist and one of the founding members. Their one manager, formed TSO to honor him. He’s now passed, but the many musicians still involved, most ex members of Savatage, carry on the legacy.
A show you will NEVER forget - they have two bands - an east coast & west coast division (east featuring Joel Hoekstra, Roddy Chong, Chris Caffrey). If you get the chance, as another person commented, GO!!! Don't sit up front though, the further back you are the better the light show becomes, although if you sit near the stage, you will probably get snowed on! I have seen them 14 times & I look forward to each and every concert....it literally IS Christmas for me; you can't leave without the spirit of Christmas.
If you noticed, there was an old man and a young girl watching them. This is from a larger story. The young girl ran away from home and wandered into an old theater to get out of the snow. The old man was basically ghost from the theater and he conjured up that song and several others. You guys should definitely go see The Trans Siberian Orchestra next year. They tour every Christmas and usually play in OK City. It is a fantastic show. It is very kid friendly so take the kids if you go. Meanwhile, you should do some other TSO songs. Their version of Carmen Burana (look it up for the meaning) is phenomenal. Enjoy
I've had the great pleasure of seeing Trans-Siberian Orchestra twice @ VanAnnel Arena in Grand Rapids Michigan Dec. 2018 & 2019 they are even more spectacular live! "Oh the Beauty & Aww of it!" It's a must see for ALL! This is my favorite CHRISTmas song. Merry CHRISTmas Amber & J. May GOD send you, your Family, Followers/Listeners Many Blessings of Health, Happiness, Laughter, Love, Hope, Peace & Joy in 2024!!! Thank you for the Joy you both bring to me & many others! Also Amber & J My awsome Children took me to see METALLICA @ Ford Field in Detroit Michigan both nights on November 11th & 12th of this year "2023" A must see as well! 61yr old Nana from Northern Michigan!😊
Trans Siberian Orchestra is typically instrumental, but sometimes they have songs with singers. They have albums out and do a show around Christmas in NYC every year. You should check out more from them. Also, if you want to hear young angelic voices, some women who both started when they were 10 years old...Charlotte Church and Jackie Evancho. Charlotte Church is Welsh and her debut album was released when she was 10. She is 37 now. Jackie Evancho started on America's Got Talent at 10 and is now 23.
Definately check out their other Christmas songs live .. it will blow you away . See them every year . Worth every penny .. and .. when the show is over they all go to a long table and sign autographs fir everyone that wants to say hi
TSO is not your typical orchestra. They have beautiful pieces like this and others that totally rock. Their first album "Christmas Eve and Other Stories" came with 2 CDs; the first, just the music and the second , the music placed in a story. I know it would be difficult to do a reaction to the whole thing, but at least try to listen to it. It will make Amber cry, but you'll both love it.
TSO was formed by members of Savatage and their producer Paul O'neil. They are still touring every year with two versions of the group TSO East, and TSO West. Catch them if you can, they are incredible live. BTW, The song is Johann Pachelbel's " Canon in D" a classical piece from 1680.
RUN!, don't walk, but RUN! to see these guys live the next time they're in your neighborhood. Totally amazing, rocking live show with flames, lasers, movable lighting racks. I've been going to see them for years now and ove the show every single time! Also, a little known number of theirs that they *don't* perform live is called Remember'. Layered, multi-part chorus. You'll *LOVE* it!
This orchestra is amazing. My wife walked down the aisle to this song. I modified it to fit the parts she wanted to walk down to. This video is part of a longer video called “The Ghosts of Christmas Eve”. It’s definitely worth watching. It’s mainly about a runaway girl around Christmas and the magic that can happen at Christmas time. My family and I watch it every year. My daughter likes falling asleep to it. 4:53 this is a Christmas take on “Cannon in D”. They have another great Christmas song called “The Three Kings and I (What Really Happened)” the song is from the view of a relative who was there that night.
It's beautiful to hear their voices with the orchestra behind it. Thanks for sharing! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! God bless you both and your family! Peace be with you!
Cannon (Pachabel) is a fantastic symphony no matter who performs it, but Trans Siberian Orchestra has a wonderful arrangement. BUT this is the SOFTEST this they do. Jay, you'll love their Carol Of The Bells and also The Wizards Of WINTER!
You must see them live …. They are actually a rock orchestra…they are incredible … look them up … watch a few song they put on the best Christmas show on earth … lots of laser lights … they have two groups of musicians and singers … east coast group and a west coast group
Why I'm not sure, but this song always takes me back and makes me think of my mother, a very loving person, who passed away in 2009. She looks down on all of her family still here on earth, with a warm smile on her face. Merry Christmas to everyone.
I was able to see them live and it was incredibly beautiful and impactful. If you get a chance to attend a performance, don't hesitate. It will blow you away!
Christmas isn't Christmas without a mediaevel singalong, so you should check out Gaudete (gow-day-tay), by the legendary UK folk group, Steeleye Span, led by the wonderful vocals of Maddie Prior!! They've been singing this for over half a century, & still nail it every time, even though Maddie is now in her 70's!! 😍
It is so pure, so non-commercialized, a true rarity in modern Christmas music. TSO performing Christmas Eve Sarajevo touches my soul equally, knowing full well the horrors of what the city of Sarajevo went through in the Yugoslav Wars in the early to mid 90's. I spent 11 of my first 21 years living within 100km's of the Iron Curtain (the last year was the year the Curtain collapsed) as an Air Force brat. Add to that 3 years serving in the Marine Corps. Cathedral acoustics can transform a truly beautiful song and spiral it high into the stratosphere. If you ever want to take a dive into a live performance of "The Sound of Silence," performed by Gregorian in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Make sure you pull up the live performance of that song, simply breathtaking❤❤❤ My lifelong favorite Christmas song is a tie between "I Believe in Father Christmas" by Greg Lake (of ELP fame) and "Snoopy's Christmas" by The Royal Guardsmen. Followed by about 10 different songs mixed between Mannheim Steamroller and TSO...
This particular performance was from a holiday television special from several years ago. The children are not normally with the orchestra. You should check out Trans Siberian Orchestra with their own singers doing this song. Fantastic!!
TSO has another version of this song called "Christmas Canon Rock". Stellar guitar work and some powerhouse vocals. You need to see them live to witness the TSO Experience. The kids would love it as well!
I wish you guys would watch this entire dvd... this is a story... the girl and the old guy watching... the girl is a runaway who seeks shelter in an old abandoned theater and the ghost of the curator shows her this concert... the whole story is incredible.. and each song is so amazing and powerful. Maybe next Christmas? The DVD is called ghosts of Christmas eve...
The underlying melody that you recognize is Pachelbel's Canon in D Major composed in 1680. It is covered and sampled everywhere. A few of the comments have mentioned TSO's annual Christmas Tour. My wife and have been going to their concerts every year since we got married in 2011. You guys just missed them in Oklahoma City on 12/07. Watch for them next year.
I seen them in concert in Virginia with my son when he was in middle school. He was playing violin in school and wanted to go see them to see how loud a concert would be with all the instruments..If you ever get the chance look them up for tickets and see if they are coming to your town. It was an amazing concert. You have to take your kids .My son was 12 :)
They tour a lot during the Holidays. This was just a small taste of what they do. Go see them LIVE. Watch for them. God Bless you and yours. Merry Christmas especially your little ones. Love families.

Old City Bar is my favorite TSO song and always brings this 71 yr old man to tears. As others has said to get the full impact of Old City Bar you really have to listen to it in the context of Christmas Eve and Other Stories. It's available on CD or DVD.
The Good the Bad and the Ugly was the Danish National Orchestra.
Nice to see Amber emotional and empaty, pure music feeling.🥰
One word. PHENOMENAL!!
This is beautiful. Now, you need to check out an actual TSO song with the band, and you can check out their metal side. Almost any live performance should do... Christmas Dreams, The Lost Christmas Eve, This Christmas Day...
This is my favorite Trans Siberian Orchestra piece of all time! I just love the children’s choir that sing on this!
You must see them Live, and Feel the notes........Unforgettable.
TSO is really known for their very loud theatrical performances with laser lights, etc. I also believe there are actually 2 TSO bands. One that performs on each coast, East and West.
TSO is a side project of Savatage who are also just as theatrical!
@@karlpmadsen Wow, very interesting
Finally this video gets uploaded!! Miss Amber, I'm glad I wasn't the only one that teared up!!
I know Jay loves an Orchestra and this was just great. I think Majestic is the right word and quite emotional-Colin Ward
This piece is my absolute favorite Christmas song. It is the only song in modern times that truly captures the true meaning and feeling of Christmas
One of the greatest musical pieces of all time.
Pachelbel’s Canon was played at my uncle’s funeral. He was the trombonist in a brass quintet, and I was honored to take his place to perform it.
PS: You need to watch TSO Christmas Canon Rock
Floor seats are awesome. One year we had 3rd row. Incredible.
I've seen them 2x at Christmas time SO AMAZING! Stories and Great music! LONG shows!
This was beautiful.
My husband and I had a organist play the instrumental version of this song as I was walking down the aisle, this song is important to me because it was my late grandfather’s favorite Christmas song. There wasn’t a dry eye when the organ started playing, that the part where the violin starts is when the double doors open and I walked down ❤😊 💍11/15/14💍
Also been to the Trans Siberian Orchestra concert 👌🏻 highly recommend…
This is one of the most beautiful arrangements of this amazing song.
Great reaction! Now for a great variation, listen to them doing Christmas Canon Rock. Same song but adding rock.
Saw them in concert 4 times. Awesome stage show and music
Yes I have heard this tune before, as it’s a very famous classical tune. But not heard this particular one before. I know wizards in winter as well.
Love, "This Christmas Day" by them 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Such a beautiful and moving piece.
It's amazing how transcendent all music is. Music is our virtue that speaks to us all
Peace!
Christmas Eve/Sarajevo is actually a Savatage track from their album Dead Winter Dead 1995.
Christmas Eve/Sarajevo is actually a Savatage track from their album Dead Winter Dead 1995.
@markbrock4427 The title of the piece, as I put in quotes, is "Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24".
This is my favorite instrumental! It's called Pachebel's Canon in D. Many brides choose this song to walk down the aisle.
I love this song, I can listen to it over and over. The Canon in D in general too. The Piano Guys have a great version as well.
TWO'S Cannon Rock really brings in the heavy guitars in with the orchestra
I truly is a beautiful, beautiful song. I've always wondered what it was going to take to get a tear out of you. Thank you
These preferences have been done every Christmas since the 80s and have been the hottest tickets in town at Christmas time every year.
My absolute favorite Christmas song. So calm
Paul ONeill was just brilliant... SO much to dig into with TSO... Old City Bar live with Bart Shatto is something i'll never forget seeing live.
Definately check out their other Christmas songs live .. it will blow you away . See them every year . Worth every penny .. and .. when the show is over they all go to a long table and sign autographs fir everyone that wants to say hi
I knew this one would make Amber cry!
Now try Christmas Canon Rock!
I first heard this 15 years ago. There is a story around it. Moving and inspiring. Thanks, guys, for having it.
The Pogues - Fairytale Of New York. The best Christmas there is.
I have goosebumps! Thank you for this beautiful piece of Christmas music 🎶 guys. Merry Christmas 🎄
I saw them in concert last night for the 24th time! You have to see them next year if they make it to the OKC area. You won't regret it
It's beautiful to hear their voices with the orchestra behind it. Thanks for sharing! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! God bless you both and your family! Peace be with you!
Lovely Christmas choir music 🎵. Merry Christmas, Jay and Amber! I have goosebumps. Can’t wait for what you’ve got for us in 2024.
You need to see them live. Trans Siberia Orchestra is hands down THE GREATEST SHOW I'VE EVER BEEN TO.
This song always gets me emotional. It moves me, makes me think of childhood memories.
Still one of my favorites ✌️
Make sure you pull up the live performance of that song, simply breathtaking❤❤❤
My lifelong favorite Christmas song is a tie between "I Believe in Father Christmas" by Greg Lake (of ELP fame) and "Snoopy's Christmas" by The Royal Guardsmen. Followed by about 10 different songs mixed between Mannheim Steamroller and TSO...
I absolutely adore orchestral strings. It really does move my soul and heart. This piece by Pachelbel is particularly beautiful.
This song is a variation of Pachelbel's Canon in D. Beautiful song. TSO does so many incredible songs and bring the same heart to them all.
The orchestral part is a very famous piece of classical music known as Pachelbel's "Canon in D." Then they added the children's (angel's) choir to make it a Christmas song. Very beautiful.
One of my must for Christmas, it's angels singing.
