"Do You Hear What I Hear?" is a carol composed in October 1962, with lyrics by Noël Regney and music by Gloria Shayne Baker. The pair, married at the time, created this carol as an appeal for peace during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

You can't go wrong with Bing Crosby singing Christmas. I'd say he's probably the embodiment of the Christmas sound.
As far as Frank Sinatra, some of the great Christmas songs he's done are "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas", "It Came Upon A Midnight Clear", "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "Silent Night". I don't believe he had any original Christmas songs, but he gave the the traditional songs that great crooner feel.
"Little Saint Nick" by The Beach Boys is also a must. The girls would probably enjoy it as well.

    • @gljm

This song was actually done a little later in Bing's career. It came out in 1962. It was, actually, meant as a prayer for peace during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Bing did the song first and, in my mind, no one has ever come close to matching this original version!
As for crooner Christmas songs: Frank, Dean, and Sammy all did different Christmas covers at one point or another. Frank Sinatra, in particular, did a lovely version of "O, Little Town of Bethlehem". But, one I'd recommend just because it's more unusual (and it's also one of my all-time favorite Christmas songs) is Dean Martin's song, "Peace On Earth/Silent Night". It combines the song "Peace On Earth", which is the opening Christmas song from "Lady and the Tramp", with the classic Christmas carol "Silent Night". "Peace On Earth" is an absolutely beautiful song but, Dean is the only one I've ever heard do a cover of it. (And yes, you can find his version here on TH-cam!)

That recording, "Adeste Fideles," was recorded on June 8, 1942. Bing was recovering from a rather severe head cold at the time, and if you listen carefully, you can hear a slight "stuffiness" in his voice (he still had a bit of nasal congestion at the time). He also recorded "Faith of Our Fathers" and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" during that same session.

Since you asked... another crooner with a superb voice is Ed Ames. He has a rich baritone that is so melodic and beautiful. Among his Christmas music you'd find he also sings "Do You Hear What I Hear." th-cam.com/video/bemYbfHBOj8/w-d-xo.html
I know there's hardly enough time in a pile of Decembers to do all the Christmas music that's been suggested to you, but Ed Ames has some incredible music in his catalog that you might investigate in the New Year... songs such as "My Cup Runneth Over," "Time To Remember," "When The Snow Is On The Roses," "Mary In The Morning," and many others. One of his albums was the very first record I ever received as a Christmas gift, and I instantly fell in love with his voice at the very first song on the album! Please note his name for music to explore and react to in the future.

Another cool fact about this is that Jimmy Dean, another singer and later sausage king, was in 165 episodes of Daniel Boone from 1968 to 1970 (the number seems inaccurate for 3 seasons of television, but who knows?

Please react to "I'll Be Home For Christmas" sung by Perry Como. Como's voice is smooth and beautiful, but the feeling he gets in this song is very special. It is a song for and about soldiers at war and away from their families. Originally sung by Bing, whom I adore. But Perry Como brings something extra. Great reaction to a beautiful song, one of Bing Crosby's best! All the best to your lovely family!🎄🤗

Bing's voice is, perhaps, more resonant on this recording than on the Davis Bowie duet, for example, because he was 14 years younger. I agree with your comments about the recording. It was 1963, 'stereo' was a relatively new thing and great care was taken to make this recording and everything was top notch.

I think you're reading Way too much into what is, simply, a Christmas song. If you try, you can insert any song into any context. Next, you'll be insisting "White Christmas" is racist. Calm down and appreciate the song for what it is. A pseudo-Bible story set to music. Without any
      "Deeper Meaning".

Tony Bennett singing Winter Wonderland with Lady Gaga. There's a live performance from Good Morning America that's good. Thye also did it at Rockefeller Center, but that video is harder to find.
Tony Bennett was one of the 1940s era crooners. His big hit was I Left My Heart in San Francisco. He's 95 years old and just did his final concert at Radio City Music Hall. He has teamed up with younger female singers including k.d. lang and Amy Winehouse, but the most productive partnership has been with Lady Gaga.
He has Alzheimer's and his memories of people and experiences are fading, but he can still sing. Lady Gaga did his Radio City Concert with him, and gave him as much support as he needed to make it a great evening.
