I was a huge fan of Desi and still like her but it was so disappointing to me when the whole DACA thing was going on and Trump was going to repeal it, Desi did not support the movement at all. It was not until she was called out by some of her followers on twitter that she addressed the situation saying that she had no words. Really? Profiting from the Latino community but can't speak up and raise awareness on a super important topic? She says she's so proud to be Mexican but only when it's convenient. Many other beauty influencers used their platform to inform and educate their followers. It just rubbed me the wrong way and I hope she realizes that being a Latina is more than dressing up as Selena for Halloween and putting a Mexican flag on her insta bio.

There were plenty of posts, pictures and tweets just giving information on how to contact local representatives, etc. That’s just a click away. I am in no way expecting her to share her personal stories because like you said some people are not comfortable with that. But again that’s just me :) no hate towards her. Just a comment.
This may be an unpopular opinion, but just because she’s a Latina influencer doesn’t necessarily mean she should be an activist & speak on such huge things. I actually love that she doesn’t get political. I watch her stuff to get away from all politics. The world is already so separated & instead of focusing on our differences that the news & politics bring out in us, the beauty community focuses on bringing all women together. Having completely unbiased influencers that stay on neutral grounds is definitely nice. Besides, some people aren’t really meant to be activists. I’ve seen so many people go to protests & stand up for things they don’t know much about or they’re there because they’re overly emotional yet uneducated on the full extent of the issue. When they get confronted or asked about their beliefs they make an ass out of both themselves & the movement.

I'd love to see more accurate representations of Latinas. This video with Desi with was a great start but I'd like to see more beauty influencers who are bilingual because Spanish is so integral to our culture. Latinas are such massive contributors to the beauty industry that I'd wish I saw more content through a Latina lens. Substantive content about mental health (Latina teens are more prone to suffer from depression than their contemporaries!) as well as health and wellness would be awesome too (as Latinos in general are dealing with an obesity epidemic that affects Latino women more than latino men). Refinery29 has such a great opportunity to fill this gap! Not even PopSugar Latina or even Latina Magazine have great quality content. Would love to share more ideas as I'm very passionate about accurately representing my culture to better serve their needs

I'd love to see more accurate representations of Latinas. This video with Desi with was a great start but I'd like to see more beauty influencers who are bilingual because Spanish is so integral to our culture. Latinas are such massive contributors to the beauty industry that I'd wish I saw more content through a Latina lens. Substantive content about mental health (Latina teens are more prone to suffer from depression than their contemporaries!) as well as health and wellness would be awesome too (as Latinos in general are dealing with an obesity epidemic that affects Latino women more than latino men). Refinery29 has such a great opportunity to fill this gap! Not even PopSugar Latina or even Latina Magazine have great quality content. Would love to share more ideas as I'm very passionate about accurately representing my culture to better serve their needs
