That first moment after leaving Estevez on the beach and walking up into the woods on the path Nightingale took at the beginning of the game... hearing the original music kick in... such a great moment in a game already packed full of incredible moments.
Wow, thanks to you I finally understood the meaning of the Final Draft ending It IS much more fulfilling that Alan accepts the Dark Place as a part of himself rather than a cancer to be cut out. Long live the Master of Many Worlds :)
Everytime you post a new video of this series i rewatch the whole Alan Wake/Control playlist from the beginning ;) Its just so good. Its not just the story, the storyteller adds to it as well. Thank you for all of this, best way to experience the series ;)
Let me get this right , So Alan is physically in real time out of the dark place , or becoming one with the dark place , he is becoming master of worlds , meaning now he can be in and out of the dark place as he pleases , now he can see both realities , for example he can look and see both versions Of NYC on top of each other like 2 layers , In other words now he can be at 2 different places at the same time keeping in mind that in the dark place he can create thing and characters while in real world he can only influence events or create circumstances , so basically he is getting a power upgrade , or maybe becoming like Mr. Door … it means that Alan now can drag people into the dark place and get them out … If Alan goes Rogue nobody can stop him even the director herself
Woah! At this moment I don't know what is more amazing...the story of Alan Wake, or your systematic (and beautiful!) telling of it! Thank you so much! This was breathtaking!
This is honestly the best explanation of this very complex story that is out there. Really A-class stuff here. Would love to hear you just spitball and talk about the story and what you think about it on a podcast or something like that!
Ha ha, boondoggle is a funny word. Great vid and series Lady Tip as usual and I gotta say Alan Wake is a great and somewhat confusing story I can’t help but love and these vids are an amazing way to unravel and enhance it. Also Remedy is just wonderful at making music for badass parts in their games
Has anyone ever noticed that when Saga opens the door of the Mind Place to get into the Dark Place, the little white stars from Night Springs' opening can be seen for a split second? 😮
The lore of these games is so cool, and as someone who loves lore and stories but hates playing anything resembling a horror/thriller game with a passion (and also appreciates how artfully you’ve explained everything in all your videos), this has been great! Whether or not you make a video about any DLCs, watching your videos on this series has been a delight😊
One thing to not with Dr. Casper Darling is that during the two videos you can of him is that in the first video he comments on how the dreamers voice kind of sounds like his own, and during the second video Zane remarks on Caspers build. I don't recall if anything is said about their similarities in the second video though. The game does say there are three videos but as of right now you can't get the third one since it may be tied to the DLC content. Same goes with Warlin Doors second night springs video.
An interesting ”double” to Alice’s photo of the hand reaching for the clicker (to retrieve it), is that it is the exact motif of one of Logan’s drawings in her room. I wonder if Logan’s art in someway inspire Alice or work in some other way. The drawing is near the photo of Tor and Odin and the Cult member with the clicker.
Interesting! Assuming that art is one of the real aspects of Logan that was transplanted into the story of her life in watery, it makes sense that she, as both an Anderson and a Door, would have similar preternatural abilities to her mother. So perhaps she had a vision of that event, in the form of a dream or something.
Two things. One: I love your lore videos!! They are very comprehensive, really fun to watch (love your wording especially), and you have the perfect voice for them Two: I only just realized your channel logo was a hat. This whole time I thought it was a weird dolphin
I'm so glad that I got my wife hook on the first Alan Wake game when I first met her. She watch me play AW2 when it first released and she jumped out of her seat when she saw a glimpse of Jesse on Zane's tv.And you just got a new subscriber.
With Control being added back to Game Pass this last week, and how much they've pushed Alan Wake 2 this year.. I'm PRAYING we get a sequel to either ASAP
HIII LADY I just finished watching this Playlist and I think you're easily my favorite video essay channel on this platform!!! Thanks so much for the great content
Thank you SO much for another amazing lore series! :) Honestly, this is the first time I really understood what the hell was actually going on, lol, thx for that too ;)
This is what real-life writer's block takes to be defeated 😅 But man, even explained slowly and carefully I'm still trying to comprehend what this means for Alan post-game. Great work here!
I have been thinking of options, and I'm also excited. It seems like the Dark Place represents the shadow archetype. It affects everyone in different ways, especially artists, who struggle the most with darkness and negativity. Alan was able to incorporate his own shadow -- Scratch, the sum of everything negative about him -- and that has made him enlightened. He accepts his dark side now. He is in control. From here, it's not exactly smooth sailing. According to Jungian psychology, the archetypal shadow can't be neglected. It needs to be fed, and it needs to be acknowledged. If Alan slips in his enlightened ways, or if he breaks his own rules, Scratch could resurface. Maybe that won't happen, but instead the Dark Place could encounter an artist of similar renown, causing it to create a new monster, and Alan will have to use his enlightenment and narrative skill to guide someone else out and defeat a new threat to the world at the same time. Could be Alice, as she still seems to be stuck there, or it could be Zane again, with his new buddy. Or, most likely in my opinion, Mr. Door might involve himself somehow. The Dark Place may factor into his plans (his motivations are quite unclear still). They could just make Alan a superhero with the ability to write cool shit into existence according to a set of narrative rules to set up an avengers-endgame-style battle against Mr. Door, involving all the remedyverse heroes. It all depends on how this universe comes together. I think we will see some combination of these, as there are too many big, named characters trapped in the Dark Place still. I think the Dark Place will now have a new "dreamer," and Mr. Door might reveal a wish to control that dreamer or the place itself by force to use as a weapon. Mr. Door, who can go anywhere he likes, seems very interested in the Dark Place, considering he's often seen there, and is killing Breakers just because they investigate him. He is also disappointed in Alan when he can't escape or seems too curious. He says he's mad because Saga is involved, but I didn't get the feeling that was because of warm fuzzy love. He has a plan for her. The only people who could shed light on Door's motives are Tor and Odin, and they are with him in the Dark Place. They sent him there, it seems. I'd guarantee he has an overarching motive he is desperate to keep hidden from everyone, and those are rarely surprise birthday parties. No matter how you slice it, Alan will be critical.
This is sooooo good! 🤩 I can’t wait for the lakehouse and night springs DLC that is supposedly coming sometime. There are so many more stories to tell, poor Sherrif Breaker’s for example 😅 And what shenanigans will Odin & Tor get into in the dark place? 😝 Stay tuned for more Remedy weirdness (that hopefully won’t take another 10 years 😅🤞)
I saw this video appear on my timeline and dropped everything. Ive been looking forward to this!! Edit omg... If I had known, I was supposed to do that...
Amazing video, as always 😁 I just don't understand how Saga could call Logan via phone while she was in the dark place at the end of the Final Draft. It's weird for me.
I had assumed the overlap scratch made into the dark place in his victory was more reality than dark place. The eternal Deerfest WAS happening in reality, with scratch freely able to twist it into its own will. Like how watery and Brightfalls were warping to fit return once scratch was let out, but at its strongest. So, when the story concludes and Scratch is back where they belong, it peels back into reality. So, Alan, Casey, and Saga were effectively back. With the AWE done, and whatever remnants stained onto brightfalls.
Holy SHIT I just thought of something We all think this was Alan Wake's way of writing himself and Alice back into reality, right? What if it was reality's way of writing Max Payne back into the fold of Remedy's connected universe?
Do you believe the the dark presence is also a hostile resonance? Alan described it as unlike the hiss but not so dissimilar that they couldn't interact" or something along those lines. I'm trying to figure out if all paranatural entities are resonance based or if there are other forms they can take, but there seems to be a lack of information to draw upon in that place as we've seen maybe 4 entities total, so I find it difficult to imagine what other ways these higher beings can engage with our plane. Resonance, vibrations, light travels in a wavelength, I thing that's a clue, however I don't think I like the answer it leads to, I want there to be still stranger ways for them to affect the physical world.
Is it just me or does Mr. Door give off similar vibes as Martin Hatch from Quantum Break? Maybe I'm just holding out too much hope for some confirmation of Quantum Break also being part of the Remedyverse or whatever people are calling it.
Definite intentional similarities. Unfortunately Remedy doesn't hold the rights to QB and they've confirmed it's not part of the Remedyverse. Same with Max Payne (held by Rockstar) which is why they made "Alex Casey". But they did buy the full rights to Control, so who knows what the future holds.
Dang, that kinda sucks. Hopefully their recent successes will afford them the capability to buy the rights to QB or Max Payne. Either could make great additions to the universe.
Another fantastic video, but did you talk about the bit where Alan doesn't remember sending messages to Rose? It's just that he doesn't remember doing it right? or is there something more that I'm missing?
Hedron does not exist. It has been all but explicitly stated by even the developers of the game that "Hedron" is what Darling named the device in the Oldest House and the entity he thought was contained within. However it is shown very very explicitly that it is empty, and instead Jesse is the vessel for "Hedron". If you can find one piece of evidence to support the idea that they are separate beings I would love to hear it, not just a single character musing on the possibility of it. The game goes above and beyond to make it very clear that the Hedron resonance comes directly from Jesse even before the device is destroyed. The two are bound together, and since Jesse was the first one to encounter and name it "Polaris" I'm going to go ahead and assume that's the name itself would likely choose. My personal headcannon is that Hedron / Polaris / Copy / Copy / Copy is a resonance that merely enhances / focuses the influence of consciousnesses it enters. Like placing mirrors together so they direct light to a point, or setting up acoustic panels to amplify sound waves. Whatever powers Polaris might give Jesse, I think she already had. Mainly evidenced by their lack of mutations when entering the slidescapes. They opened the "Hand" one last, so Polaris was not yet in contact with Jesse when they met the other entities that mutated other children. Jesse is the key. She has some kind of protective power that is just amplified using the Hadron resonance.
So you mention Tom Zane as being the Scratch of the real Tom Zane (The Diver), but lately I've been thinking that might not be the case. In fact, I'm pretty sure Tom Zane is the real Scratch, Mr. Scratch from American Nightmare. Just like the Dark Presence in the first game, he needs to "collaborate" with people to create his art, so he approaches people when they're at their lowest points (Like the Devil, also known as Old Scratch). Now, how did he come to exist though? He might be either a sentient being native to the Dark Place, another aspect of The Dark Place or (and this is where things get interesting) a pseudonym for Alan. Or an Heteronym. There's a Portuguese poet called Fernando Pessoa who is known for creating several different pseudonyms, each with their own voice, writing style/structure... With their own different lives even. And when asked about them, he actually talked about them as if they were different people. I fact, there's one in particular that he mentions as being his mentor or master. Well, if we translate this idea into the whole ouroboros-esque idea of who created whom (Zane created Alan or vice-versa) and the whole "you look like me" beat, that might explain some things. Like, a Heteronym that gained life, independence through the powers of The Dark Place.
She recently played through it on stream and said she probably wouldn't do a lore vid on this DLC. If she does do a vid, chances are it would be on The Lake House DLC when that releases
Thanks for the great video. I want to ask who is the third one in Old Gods Of Asgard? There is Odin with and eyepatch and the guitar, Thor in the back with the drums, and someone else near Odin. Is it Saga's mom's husband? Or is it Barry? He lost so much wieght?
