    Sometimes I get jealous of the Rick 325. Not the company, not people who own a Rickenbacker, the actual guitar. "Why do _you_ get to have such a great tone? It's unfair!"

    • @riogrande163
      @riogrande163 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Though I've never heard anybody call the flat, chuggy, clacky tone of the 325 great, it shouldn't be super hard to achieve;
      A 5/8 scale, (20 & 3/4 inch scale length) guitar, low-output single coil pickups,
      and heavy gauge flatwound strings should get you pretty close to the tone.

      @@riogrande163That’s just one flavor of the 325, it’s tuned in “flat and chuggy” since it’s a rhythm guitar bit, giving space for lead guitar, filling the upper headroom the bass lacks. If you listen to You Can’t Do That, it has a beautiful brightly percussive sound in the solo. Although yes, I was able to achieve such a sound with my Squier Affinity Stratocaster with my Vox VT20+ amp using the modeling capabilities

    • @jamescreswell9037
      @jamescreswell9037 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can dial in to that bright tone with any Gretsch fitted with FilterTrons, even an Electromatic fitted with BlackTops. Can't match the Rick's super short scale length though, although that won't matter to those with larger spider fingered hands. The Thin U neck and short scale of the Gretsch Electromatics still works OK for medium-small hands. Alternative super cheapie for those living in the EU is a Harley Benton RB600, but too expensive to ship to my country now killing the incentive/value. I'd go with the Gretsch instead anyway as it nails both the Harrison and Lennon parts well enough most wouldn't pick the tonal difference. That's what I use. I'd never be able to afford a Rick 325, let alone justify the spend even if I could.

    Great. The bridge I believe starts on a D minor before going into the F6-G6, and Lennon ends the song on a 3rd fret bar chord on the final G chord. With all that said everybody hears those two bits I mentioned differently. Yours was great . If you had a compresser on your Rick it would have sounded perfect. There was so much compression on Lennon’s guitar ,between the way he played,and the compression it was the most unique,and innovative rhythm playing imaginable ,and that was 1963 .

      This guy doesn't play E major in the verses, no major third.
      And how Lennon played it live is not how he played it in the studio

      @@victorlinge92 He's playing E Major on the third chord WHICH IS WRONG! Even if you can't hear it, maybe you'll believe your eyes BECAUSE the DIAGRAM of the chord that he is playing SAYS E MAJOR on the video. LOL

    This sounds dead. What am I actually hearing? Flat wound strings with the tone way down?
    This is an incredible guitar part for a rock song released in the early 60'sand without it the song wouldn't have any back bone..... Also, the guitartist deserves a beer. Well done.

      @@riogrande163 The 350 I assume just sounds like any other full scale Rick. I do think the 325 has a uniqueness in its awfulness, its a rhythm machine for sure, but besides the "chug" it cant really do much else.

    Might help to learn chord structures within a key. Eminor is the 6chord in the key of G. E major is not.
