Back in December 1962 I was playing bass with Mike Dean and the Kinsmen and we played with the Beatles at Bedford. When they came on I couldn’t believe what I was listening to. We played with lots of top bands at the time but these guys completely knocked us out, they were the best. I’m 83 now but still have wonderful memories of that night
Thanks Dad you told me who the beatles were and it was your fav. Band. You passed away today and it hurts so much but i love you for all and forever! ❤
@@pokey5736yes! It was so fun and easy, my dad dead that winter and the hard times came. My mom, never worked outside the home and had 5 boys 2 girls .. no insurance. I love the Beatles music. ❤❤ for the memories
I was 13 when my father drove myself and my friend Kathy to the Beatles concert at the Boston Gardens. My poor dad must have been petrified to allow me to go in there without him while he waited in the parking lot. The screams were so loud you couldn’t hear a single word. That and Woodstock were 2 of my finest moments.
Im in my 60s i had 5 siblings only the youngest left. Butbmy older sister and i were so close. Her and older brother had a crazy love for music. Anywaywe used to talk about though getting old what generation had our music 🎶!! Beatles, elvis, kinks, the who, rolling stones, Dylan, Clapton, endless talent that carried into the 70s,80s. Even today. How fortunate we heard a brand new Beatles album for fist time. Beach boys. You understand. I miss my family and old friends being able to talk what great music we had. Music will never be the same. Our generation changed it forever. Peace olle friend!!🎶🎹☮️✌️👍😊
It’s 2021 and we have Spotify, iTunes, etc to listen to thousands of other groups, yet I still rather watch the Beatles than anyone else. So, who’s watching in 2021!!!
I’m almost 60 years old and have been a huge Beatles fan since receiving the red and blue double albums as a birthday gift in December of 1976. I’m still listening and watching and have no plans of stopping anytime soon. Beatles forever!!!
I remember the summer of 1966 as being the quote-unquote best summer of My life! Revolver had just come out and you could walk down the Ave here in the University District in Seattle in here all the tracks from that album playing up and down the street with the sun shining on my 11 year old head!❤
I was working a summer job as a fulltime landscaper for a doctor on Mona Lake in Norton Shores, MI. Didn't need a radio. Someone on the lake played Beatles albums all day long and, if you aren't aware, sound carries quite well over water. Ah, the memories.
I'm 71 and still feel that thrill I got in 1963 when I heard them for the first time. There have been so many great bands, but these guys were the best.
@@inevski I agree with your comment about the Beatles. However, my own experiences are that you really had to be around during those times to fully appreciate the phenomenon that was happening all around. No book, no video nor any film will ever be able to capture the essence of those times.
@@jeanhansel5805 I don't even think this is true. I know people from those times who think of the Beatles like one famous group of the time. Others who dismiss them in favour of some dim rival. And I know two generations since who are absolutely immersed in everything they were and are. It's something like the difference between being a music lover and a consumer passively absorbing the trends of the time. There are plenty of 60s teens and 20 somethings who never went to a live event nor cherish the Beatles to this day, even though they bought some records then. So how would you know what it is to love the Beatles when you're born after the 60s and actually grew up as a young child on our parents' soon to be forgotten records. Only then to investigate their phenomena across a lifetime. You don't know. With more access to media than those days. You don't know how younger music lovers understand the Beatles.
I'm 76 and I've seen every major rock band in history, from the Cream, to the Doors, to the Beach Boys, to Jimi Hendrix, to Led Zeppelin, and trust me, this was the single best rock band in history, bar none. No other quartet was able to generate this kind of sustained excitement ever, and none ever will again.

I'm 62, never lived a moment when I wasn't aware of the Beatles and their music. Rarely does a day pass where I don't either actively or passively listen to at least one song, so literally tens of thousands of times. I love all forms of music, but there is no one who comes close to what the Beatles represent artistically, socially, historically. And yes, this is the best recording of their best performance. To have been in Hamburg for one of their marathon sets in the early days would have been magic.
Wow. There is nothing I can write that could add to or enhance what you articulate here. The Universe was on its inexorable path through time and space. Then the Beatles occurred. the Universe split in two. You and I, my friend, and all those with open hearts and souls felt the gravitational pull of four lads from Liverpool. We had no choice but to follow the new Universe and its arc through life WITH THE BEATLES.
I agree, they were the best band ever, they truely changed the world. I;m glad the music has been in my life since I was a teen in the 80s, It helped me through alot of tragic events.. There is no one to compare them to. They were above them all IMO better then the Stones. I love Badfinger and Bee Gees also but the Beatles were the still in a class all their own.
@@larryhunter2026 Glad to hear you got emotional support through the Beatles. I did and still do. Hell, I Wanna Hold Your Hand still brings a smile to my face and joy to my heart. I don't indulge in the Beatles v. Stones tug-of-war. It's meaningless. It's like arguing Big Bang v. Supernova.

@Nick Madness Stones? Yes, in terms of longevity but, in terms of originality, creativity, and impact on music and the world in general, it's not even close in my opinion.
@Nick Madness I agree! IF you like both bands for their unique qualities your better off I do not know how many verbal fights I have gotten into trying to choose one over another..
@Nick Madness The early stones were never in tune, sang flat in every live show, and were miserable. I do love their early recordings but compare 3 videos of the Beatles from 1964 or so to 3 videos of the Stones and then let us know. Even Mick Taylor said they were never in tune and sang bad and he quit in 5 years. Also, Beatles vocals and music is way more taxing than the Stones music
I have never seen any comments area, without many DOWN thumbs. but here truth be told...not ONE down thumb, any ware!!! that my friends, speaks for itself. they were and still are unexplainable. just simple the best rock and roll band ever, there lyrics were ALWAYS about love, happiness, maybe a little loneliness, but never vulgar. never boring, never not understandable. rest in peace John, and George, thanks for the memories. youse were the GREATEST.
So glad I saw this video, never saw it before. Ok so here is a "sentimental" experience I had about 9 months ago. I live in Bangkok, Thailand with my wife....at the malls they have these huge Guitar shops.....everything you want, Fender, Gibson, ESP, Dean, PRS, Gretsch etc.etc.etc. They also have a huge selection of "Vox" amps too...One day I went in there to look around, this young guy is hooked up to a Gretsch and to a Vox Amp. I do not speak fluent Thai....yet LOL! So my wife comes in, this kid is just playing some riffs etc. I said to my wife "Ask him if he can play any of The Beatles"? Not remotely thinking this kid knows who they are, he looks at me and says in perfect English " No problem sir" and starts playing " I Feel Fine" I about died....then he launched into "Drive my Car" He said to my wife in Thai " Ask your husband if he wants me to play any of The Rolling Stones"??? Oh my Buddah...he was rewarded with lunch from Subway from me and my wife. He was 15 years old...
10 songs performed in just over 24 minutes, in what is probably the tightest, rocking-est, most energetic set the world has ever known. Bookend this with the rooftop performance, less than 5 years later and the talent and vision is unbelievable. The Beatles will be giving joy and sending shivers down the spines of listeners 100 years from now and we were lucky enough to have shared this time and era with them.
Absolutely agreed. For those of us who lived during these amazing couple of decades, we are beyond blessed. Spoiled rotten and didn't even know it. We just jammed. ❤
What I wouldn't give to be able to go into a time machine and see this very concert live.. I mean it's recorded and we hear it but can you IMAGINE how this sounded live... The sonic onslaught would have been mind boggling! Being played live and to hear it immediately reproduced from there voices.. LIVE. Omg.. it's so unfair that time machines aren't a thing
Ikr, the Dreamcast was able to drink before me and I grew up hearing their stuff all the time. Still do, actually. Come Together plays on the radio all the time and so does Hard Day’s Night. Yellow Submarine was also one of the first films I ever watched, aside from shark tale and the live action Charlotte’s Web remake

I feel sorry for kids nowdays who think modern music is even music. The Beatles didn't have the technology they do now. They had to be really talented and great musicians.
No need to bring down modern music, there’s a lot of good music now. I’m 18 and appreciate the Beatles a lot but a lot of modern music is doing innovative things.
I idsagree. Rap and hip hop are just decadent and negative for the most part and all the kids listen to it.. There are some good songs that come out now and then but seems to be mostly country, western which I'm not a fan of. @@DeKevers

They sang in harmony. They stayed in tune despite the screams. They wrote their own songs. They were beautiful on stage, with their smiles and bows and little dancing movements. They were clearly enjoying themselves, and their love and affection for each other was obvious. They were like no other band before or since. Legendary.
The one and only “The Beatles.” I was only 14 years of age and l became an instant fan. My little sister was only 2 and she would clap her hands and sing to the tunes of “l wanna hold your hand” and “l love you yeah yeah yeah.” She had a mop head like the Beatles. My parents are almost 70 and I still love hearing them tell me stories about The Beatles. I feel like the grunge explosion was the closest thing my generation had to that time.
Wonderful, timeless, it takes me back to my favourite year of 1963 when it really all kicked off. I was 19 years old then, so many fabulous memories of the music scene in the 1960s. If only we had time machines.
Nobody will ever surpass the Beatles, in terms of musicality, innovation, consistent high quality song writing, and impact on the music industry at the time. The greatest group ever.
Obviously people remember their later studio stuff more these days as it's more listenable and relatable for a modern audience, but what's often forgotten is how the Beatles cut their teeth as an absolutely killer live band. By this point the core members had been playing together for 5+ years and had thousands of gigs under their belts. Their first two albums were also recorded in the 2-track era, so what you hear is pretty much the best live take. Being that good, that young, with that much charisma and their own songs. Simply unheard of at the time. They blew everyone away.
Agree 100%... their harmonies were so tight and they - especially Paul - look to be having so much fun!. Would have loved to have seen them in concert back in the day. If only time-traveling was possible... some day!
Yeah, it's a shame concert technology was still in its infancy back then. Live Beatles with today's advanced microphones and speaker systems would have no doubt sounded astounding.
This vid is misleading. The audio has been cleaned up. I have a friend who then aged 17, attended one of their Australian concerts (Brisbane venue). We both still play guitar and I jam with him to this day. He reported to me that apart from beign able to say he was there as a nostalgic novelty, he may as well have saved his money. Given the amplification of the day, after the first 30 seconds, The Beatles couldn't be heard above the din of the girls unceasing screaming. Beatlemania as was, which just had to be experienced. No retelling quite captures their impact & the hysteria. Lennon confirmed this himself on several occasions, reporting their annoyance in not even being able to hear themselves above it.
@@theblytonian3906 The recording though should be coming off the board so it would not be much like they or the audience was hearing at a live performance. This video is indeed evidence they could pull it off live and tightly. Granted their later music was not meant to be played live and that not all went as well as this particular performance it is stunning historical evidence that they could indeed perform live this well..
To add. Their early albums were essentially live performances as they didn't use many if any overdubs etc.. hence they plugged in and played together and what you hear is what you get. Considering how quickly they recorded those early albums is testament. Their later stuff was more experimental and depended on studio magic to get the sound. But still undeniable talent. Just add the producer as a 5th member.
@@whichgodofthousandsmeansno5306 Not dealing in 'what ifs', but as it was. I just gave you accurate testimonial evidence of what a live performance by them was like to experience first hand as reliably related to me by someone I've known for over almost 50 years. That The Beatles were tight live derived of their grounding around the traps in the UK prior to their foundation developed by those grindingly long hours in Hamburg through their return to The Cavern and other venues around the UK until their subsequently presentation polish and promotion by Epstein is already well served by evidence prior to this. No-one can challenge A. their raw talent, B. the alignment of the stars probability of the charismatic mix of those 4 individuals coming together in that place and time. Having lived the era with a basis of comparison since, no argument from me, The Beatles -as was, remain the act to follow & greatest band ever in my eyes since their initial chart success in late 1962.
@@whichgodofthousandsmeansno5306 Don't forget the real 5th Beatle, Brian Epstein, no disrespect to Sir George Martin who might arguably hold position as 6th. Epstein was the glue, an undeniable fundamental factor in shaping their image, harnessing their talent productively, availing them of opportunity critical to their initial success and subsequent unprecedented rise of Beatlemania no one could have predicted. Even with all that talent, without him or the coincidence of the time was right, they may remained struggling also rans or a few hit wonders before fading into obscurity like so many other bands of the day. @@jackburton2431 What people do not appreciate was that the Beatles spawned an almighty industry of knockoff merchandise which the band had zero to do with but which harnessed their massive fanbase. THE BEST BEST of the BEST!!!! No band can ever , ever come close!!! I loved them from the first time I saw them on the Ed Sullivan show in February 1964!! Listening to them brings me so much joy!!
They were the best….however….with the exception of Brian Wilson. John, Paul, wrote their music George Martin arranged the music Brian Epstein managed the band Others produced the music. George Martin who knew the Beatles better then anyone said John and Paul were very good, but the one true genius was Brian Wilson Beachboys harmonies we’re second to none. Wilson wrote, arranged, managed produce etc. he did it all alone except for a few exceptions. Wilson’s music, Good Vibrations, God only Knows, etc was are more complex and arranged the. Any music the Beatles did. The Beatles Help song came AFTER the Beachboys Help Me Rhonda song. The Beatles Yesterday& Today album came AFTER the Beachboys Today album The Beatles Sgt. Peppers & Magical Mystery Tour albums came after Beachboys Today & Pet Sounds Albums. The Beatles always paid close attention to Brian Wilson.
I saw a quote from a journalist commenting on their anthology release once years ago, which struck me; "they were the collective joy of the 20th century; having followed two world wars, a great global depression and a time of profound upheaval and change. They were the heat that melted a cold war. The ushers of a new way of thinking and celebrating life." A great way to describe this phenomenon.
This is without question he best band of all time. Those of us lucky enough to have been teenagers when they burst on the scene have carried them with us all through our lives.
The early mid 60s were amazing for music, my high school years. My best friend and I went to a great effort to see them at Red Rocks when they came to Denver...
As someone born in 86, they're still the best band ever. The sheer volume and cutting edge exploring of creativity was a birth place of many future bands. A once in an eon phenomena
What amazes me is that John can maintain that chain saw of a great voice without going hoarse. I've never heard another voice that sounds even remotely close to his. Paul's is really unique too. The grouping of those 4 guys and George Martin was truly a miraculous gift to us all.
@@thewkovacs316 They certainly changed the world's perception of the supposed division between high brow and low brow composition. To my knowledge, folks like Leonard Bernstein were not given to weighing in on the merits of the songbooks of Buddy Holly or Little Richard. Songs like 'For No One' and 'Eleanor Rigby' changed that. Also from Revolver, I believe it might've been Al Kooper who suggested that without 'Got To Get You Into My Life' there would've been no Blood, Sweat and Tears or Chicago. For better or worse? That's a separate question.
The Beatles were a big part of my life during my teen years. I saw them at Shea Stadium in New York. We could hardly hear them singing because the screams were louder, lol. Still a day I will never forget
They took Rock to a new level, taking Elvis, Chuck Berry, Memphis and English Rock and Roll and many other genres together in those early years. They were so terrific and deserved all the attention they got in those years. No one has ever been bigger in Rock and Roll history, and their appeal was so universal all before the years of the internet.
This performance was made in Australia in June 1964 at Festival Hall in Melbourne. As a Beatles fan who has lived in Melbourne all my life, I am thrilled that this has been labelled as the Beatles' best performance ever! It really is a fantastic showcase of the band's ability to entertain and to remain artistic and musically in control at the same time. Years later, my father played keyboard in a band and the audio guy they frequently hired in the early 90s would setup the sound system with the very same microphones used in this concert! I also had to sit university exams in Festival Hall in 2009-10. It was surreal to think I was with hundreds of others in a place so quiet where 45 years earlier the same venue was filled with thousands of screaming fans watching one of the greatest musical groups of all time!
Exams in Festival Hall. Well. How many bands I saw there. Eric Clapton and split enz supporting, roxy music, met meatloaf there, leo sayer, cant even remember. iron maiden world slavery tour was last
As a young lad growing up in Canada (Toronto) I watched the Beatles for the first time on the Ed Sullivan show and to this day I can still remember sitting in front of the TV literally vibrating and shaking as the performance followed. It made a profound effect on me and I’ve been a music lover ever since. Thank you boys !!
I can totally relate to your story, and can recall thats all everyone was talking about for weeks before the Ed Sullivan show, and we were calling all our friends on our “party phone line” right up to the show. I was 13 at the time and my siblings and I were jumping up during the songs, and we couldn’t believe what we saw and heard, then my father looks at our mother and said” well, they are no Bing Crosby, thats for sure”. I still laugh when I think of it today.
I’m 70 now. This is without a doubt the best recorded performance of The Beatles I’ve seen. They stayed together as a performing group the perfect length of time. All things pass. This was a beautiful interruption
what a group of hits in 24 minutes. I'm sure many were like me, going through the entire sixties looking for the Beatles' next hits and more. After a couple years, I basically considered every Beatle album and song to be a 'hit', and they never disappointed me.
Same. The album Meet the Beatles was like $2.65 at a GROCERY STORE. Couldn't believe what I was hearing. Later got The Beatles' Second Album and that introduced me to Chuck Berry and Smoky Robinson, I still think George Harrison's Roll Over Beethoven is the best ever recorded. They played those early songs a million times in Germany until they dropped, they literally could have done all of them in their sleep. It was 1964, I was TEN, really didn't know any Elvis songs, faintly knew some Everly Brothers. Other than that my familiarity with music was Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer stuff. Went to see Hard Day's Night, was blown away. Have been a fanatic Beatlemaniac ever since. I look forward to hanging out with John and George in Heaven.
Unless you experienced the arrival of The Beatles you can barely imagine their impact. They not only changed music, they changed the world. They made rock'n'roll not just a fad but the music of a revolutionary view of reality.
I think it's a bit of a hyperbole to claim that the Beatles changed the world. The world is unchanged: people are still killing, stealing, cheating and polluting.
I’m a sixty four year old scouser and can remember sitting on my auntie’s wall waiting for the Beatles to go past back in the late sixties, eventually they came by in their black limo doing about 35 mph, I just got a glimpse of some faces wearing dark shades (don’t really remember who’s they were) but it was really exciting I was only about nine or ten years old 🤔
Change music? Absolutely. Change then world? Huh? And I don’t think you needed to experience their arrival to understand their impact. You’re way off with your comments, mate. 😉
Love Lennon's raw grainy voice. It's a total opposite of McCartney's smooth voice. Together, they complement each other. Best songwriting duo in the history of rock and roll. George's voice is awesome and underrated too.
@Keith Kristi Paul had greater range and training. He was a choirboy, after all, but his was the screaming voice -- as well as the "lover voice". He and John were very competitive about who really understood rock and roll. And then there was George, who managed to find a miracle middle. Without Ringo's deceptively "uncomplex" drumming, always a bit "behind" the "Sound" wouldn't have been there. Again, a miracle.
@@harold3165 Didn't you read my post ? I said George's voice was underrated, which means he had a great voice too. As far as Ringo, he was a better drummer than singer, but this doesn't mean he can't sing.
Musically George's lead drove the band. Typically a compliment for an exceptional bass. George was the under-rated element of the band as he proved with a lot of the music he was forced to caned until he went solo.
I am 74 now and loving all the old Beatle videos on the airwaves rightnow. When "Long Tall Sally" came on I was thrilled to hear it again but here's the cool part, my beautiful Calico- Daisy came running over to hear Paul sing too! He still draws fans!

I too was eight when the Beatles toured Australia in 1964. At the time I thought I was a drummer, since Ringo was my "favourite", but shifted to bass later on. These days they're all my favourites.
Ah, the harmonies! In 'Hold your hand' everything is in unison apart from the word 'hand' (with a couple of exceptions later on). I will never know if this was deliberate, or simply natural genius.
I love this recording! You can pick out the voices and hear the harmonies. The vocal notes are spot on. We never hear about where they learned to sing. The whole performance is really tight. Brilliant musicians. I’m so glad their music has lasted all these years.

My penchant for exaggeration about PG is entirely my own - and you yourself are exaggerating to say it resembles anyone else's. Especially since you don't know me from Adam. How about - my views on PG's talents 'resemble those of some other PG fans' you've encountered? I have to say I'm disappointed that an apparently fastidious person like yourself would be so sloppy, to be honest. Now - back to the music - and my larger point. MANY great artists - Greeny among them -have spoken about deriving their 'style' as a result of being failed copyists of their personal heroes. In essence, they found their own paths as much out of frustration as inspiration in the end. That's all.
Four basic instruments, three amazing voices, amazing songwriting talents and then magic happens - it really is a miracle and I am thankful I have been alive to experience it! Saw them on Ed Sullivan when I was 9 and saw Sir Paul in May of 2022 - they have, essentially, spanned my life!
I can't understand why John hated his own voice! This is an amazing example of what a great singer he was, especially live! He sounds awesome in this performance!
Such great tunes how can anyone criticize these guys? For too few years they were The Best and for me still are. Thanks again for sharing such tremendous sounds, Flawless, j
72 here ❤ love the Beatles, stones etc. so many memories pour out. I remember Christmas 1967 my brother & his new wife opened the doors to the car to leave after their wedding. Penny Lane was playing in the car and they jumped in, hugging and drove off. I watched for a long time. I always think of that day when I hear that song! My brother is now in heaven. Bittersweet ❤
267Copied from earler post .
Very cool memories! WoW!!! I was born on June 15th, 1964... the day Ringo joined back up in Melbourne and Jimmy flew back to London...that's my landmark...BUT...your story is much better! I'm a BEATLES fanatic! Thanks for your story....awesome!
I was at this concert. Fourteen years old. Stood outside the Southern Cross Hotel for four hours on the Saturday, waiting for them to arrive. They played two nights at Festival Hall, Saturday and Sunday. I went to their second concert on the Sunday night. (It was the Queen's Birthday weekend.) I've watched this footage many times, looking to see if I can see me in the audience. So far, nope.
I saw the Beatles at The Ed Sullivan Theater when I was 13. That afternoon literally changed my life. The raw excitement & the quality of a NEW style music. I still see that show
Ohhh yes Larry. I saw my introduction to the Beatles when I was 6--7 years old. ( I'm 66 now). Like you it changed my life ToTally---for the better. I too can vividly remember watching them play " I want to hold your hand "; on of their first and fouding songs.
No on-stage antics, no light show, no preaching from the stage, no pre-recording. Just playing their incredible songs. And love the respectful deep bows after each song. I'm glad the Beatles arrived when they did so we could enjoy them in their pure form.
@@terenceoneill3075 What they mean is that there are artists and bands that bore their concert audiences between songs by preaching a political or social view.
The Beatles split the universe in two. Those who got it couldn't resist their gravitational pull. The rest of the world still lives in its drab part of the universe.
I remember the anticipation of watching them on TV when they first came on The Ed Sullivan Show - I was a young girl watching with my Mom - and when they came on and started singing - I completely fell in love for the first time! I still get chills hearing them! There is truly something magical about The Beatles that cannot ever be put into words 🥰
Me too ! Even though I was only a seven year old kid at the time, I was just awestruck hearing the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show, and they actually changed my life with their influence later on !
No one can compare to this band in a million years they were/are the best of all time and wasn't even my era I'm a 70s girl, but still love the BEATLES !!!
I was 15 in 1964 when The Beatles came to America. And I still know the words to their songs and even their less played songs. I still love them and their music. And the “bow” will always be a classy move.
This helps one understand what a magnificent band they were. Keep in mind there was no such thing as vocal processing back then they had to really SING. And they did. Wonderful showmen as well. Very polished.
I was a huge Beatles crazy teenager in the sixties.. I remember clearly thinking of what they would be like in 50 years and here it is. Still the very best.
Unbelievable! Perfect Vocals and no stage monitors wtf John is still my favorite voice of all time, and the mix in this video is best I've ever heard. It's 'clearer' on Sullivan, but it isn't BiG, this is a huge, fat, loud rock and roll band...I'm also 67 and I'm crying too...it all starts and stops with the lads, best band hands down in history...how lucky were we to grow with them as the soundtrack of our lives...
This brought back memories of the August 1965 Beatles concert I attended in Portland, Oregon. I was 17, my girlfriend 15, and we were both HUGE Beatles fans, and we still are today.
I totally agree. I feel sorry for the rolling stones when they say that they are a long lasting band and they are still performing. Even if they played for 100 years they wont. Do what the Beatles did in less than 10 years.
I saw them in HOUSTON IN 1964. IT WAS GENERAL ADMISSION And 100% HUMIDITY. Mom stayed with me and my sister. 8am to 8pm outside in the heat. She brought lots of water and snacks. Mom, it finally occurred to me why you took us to the Beatles and 100 more concerts. BOC ZEPPELIN TOMMY JAMES and the SHONDELLS URIAH HEAP And MANY more. THANKS MOM ❤❤❤
Devastated when they left us(were taken!!) Murdered and cancer… it still hurts. Ringo and Paul , Olivia and Yoko are carrying on without their mates.. so sad ..

I’m almost 60 years old and have been a huge Beatles fan since receiving the red and blue double albums as a birthday gift in December of 1976. I’m still listening and watching and have no plans of stopping anytime soon. Beatles forever!!!
I saw them in Portland Oregon, August 22, 1965. There was nothing like it. It was amazing!
Here I am back down the Beatles rabbit hole. Sorry, but you really had to be around back then appreciate what a phenomenon they were.
Not only the Beatles.....holds true for much of what the 60's experience was like. Just had to be there to personally experience it.
No I didn't have to be there to appreciate them
Not true. A reductive comment on the power of the Beatles phenomena
The subsequent generations of fans understand and appreciate very well.

I love all forms of music, but there is no one who comes close to what the Beatles represent artistically, socially, historically. And yes, this is the best recording of their best performance. To have been in Hamburg for one of their marathon sets in the early days would have been magic.

Then the Beatles occurred. the Universe split in two. You and I, my friend, and all those with open hearts and souls felt the gravitational pull of four lads from Liverpool. We had no choice but to follow the new Universe and its arc through life WITH THE BEATLES.

I was just a dumb 10 year old when the Beatles invaded the USA and didn't really know what all the excitement was about . only that my older sister had over night turned insane and seemed possessed by some unseen force, that drove her to cover her walls with Beatles stuff and talk incessantly about "Paul" . i'm an old man now and my sister is gone, and i cherish every one of those those memories.
Thanks for sharing this. I can tell you miss your sister but cherish the memories you both made together with The Beatles.
Awww! That's adorable. I'm glad you still have those memories! :D
I am same age brother. I wore a crew-cut and wanted a Beatles "wig" and "Beatle Boots". That got flatly denied; imagine that.....and the rest of the Beatles story is some amazing history; that we have the pleasure of being a part of.
Golden times. Fantastic
@@jackburton2431 What people do not appreciate was that the Beatles spawned an almighty industry of knockoff merchandise which the band had zero to do with but which harnessed their massive fanbase. You mentioned "Beatles wigs" which you could get - but for kids like me for just a few shillings you could get these blown plastic "wigs" that you could perch over your head and pretend you were John, Paul, George or Ringo. You would specify which one you wanted when you bought it. I can't remember which one I had - and it didn't last long - but for a while this kid was a Beatle. Not to mention all the phantasmagoria of other stuff that was created - especially decals (transfers). They were hot property in the early days. I was 15 when the Beatles played the cow palace on Aug 31 1965. I was lucky to sneak into the backstage area , there i found the boys playing cards in a small trailer.I pretended to be the curtain monitor and would open and close the curtain for the acts, Sam the Sham and of course my heroes the Beatles. When they were playing, I stood behind the boys. When they finished there set , I held the curtain closed until I got to shake there hands. What a concert.
The amount of jelly beans, stuff animals and non stop flash bulbs coming on stage was very cool.

THE BEST BEST of the BEST!!!! No band can ever , ever come close!!! I loved them from the first time I saw them on the Ed Sullivan show in February 1964!! Listening to them brings me so much joy!!
That was the night “The Brylcream came out of your hair.”
Everything Changed.
Everything.
I saw them on our black and white TV that night. It was history
I was 12 then. Now I'm 69 and listen to THE BEATLES STATION ON XM RADIO AND THEY STILL SOUND FRESH!!!
How lucky you are to have been so close to them! What an amazing trip! Carry that energy for the rest of your life!!!
They were the best….however….with the exception of Brian Wilson.
John, Paul, wrote their music
George Martin arranged the music
Brian Epstein managed the band
Others produced the music.
George Martin who knew the Beatles better then anyone said John and Paul were very good, but the one true genius was Brian Wilson
Beachboys harmonies we’re second to none.
The Beatles Yesterday& Today album came AFTER the Beachboys Today album
The Beatles Sgt. Peppers & Magical Mystery Tour albums came after Beachboys Today & Pet Sounds Albums.
The Beatles always paid close attention to Brian Wilson.
Superb concert. There's no denying their appeal in any century. Thank you for posting this concert.
Yes I’m 71 and still love listening to the Beatles they were the greatest. Makes me wanna dance ❤
Is there anything more uplifting in this dreary, depressing world than listening to the timeless music of the Beatles ?
Yeah..."The Beatles " translated means....HAPPY!....
Agreed
No.
Of course. Listening to Chic or Sister Sledge is way more uplifting.
This is without question he best band of all time. Those of us lucky enough to have been teenagers when they burst on the scene have carried them with us all through our lives.
And I got to see them perform live...twice!
I saw them in Toronto in ‘64 and ‘65…I loved them in the 60’s…my kids loved them in the 80’s…my grandkids love them in the 2000’s….
❤YES BEST BAND EVER & FOREVER ❤
What amazes me is that John can maintain that chain saw of a great voice without going hoarse. I've never heard another voice that sounds even remotely close to his. Paul's is really unique too. The grouping of those 4 guys and George Martin was truly a miraculous gift to us all.
Shhh Kurt Cobain! If you actually listen to lennon he hardly ever adds distortion
I was wondering if Paul was having difficulty with the placement of his mic. Like it seems like he had to keep moving to get at the right spot.
On Twist and shout he rips the voice like there’s no tomorrow.
Hardly? actually listen to the distortion he adds? @@ramiroescamilla7263

No one has ever been bigger in Rock and Roll history, and their appeal was so universal all before the years of the internet.
and for me, they tool that rock and roll, and they made it swing like no one else had done at that point. That was their great innovation.
Far superior to Ed Sullivan 4 months earlier.

Talent like The Beatles can only come together this way once in a thousand years. The Beatles will live forever.
A band like the Beatles can only be said that they are the Alpha and the Omega.
💯
what a group of hits in 24 minutes. I'm sure many were like me, going through the entire sixties looking for the Beatles' next hits and more. After a couple years, I basically considered every Beatle album and song to be a 'hit', and they never disappointed me.
I'm 72 and the first album I ever bought was Meet the Beatles... wow, what a wonderful time to be alive!
Ditto!!
Me too!
My first album also!
Still have my Meet the Beatles album at age 74.
Unless you experienced the arrival of The Beatles you can barely imagine their impact. They not only changed music, they changed the world. They made rock'n'roll not just a fad but the music of a revolutionary view of reality.
I was just a kid but I remember after Ringo came on the scene you never saw ANYBODY hold sticks sideways except maybe Buddy Rich.
I think it's a bit of a hyperbole to claim that the Beatles changed the world. The world is unchanged: people are still killing, stealing, cheating and polluting.
True!
What a knock on George and Ringo
@@harold3165 Didn't you read my post ? I said George's voice was underrated, which means he had a great voice too. As far as Ringo, he was a better drummer than singer, but this doesn't mean he can't sing.
Each of their voices is distinctive, even when they harmonize. I love hearing George’s perfect enunciation! Mmmm

I will never know if this was deliberate, or simply
natural genius.
I love this recording! You can pick out the voices and hear the harmonies. The vocal notes are spot on. We never hear about where they learned to sing.

I totally agree. I feel sorry for the rolling stones when they say that they are a long lasting band and they are still performing. Even if they played for 100 years they wont. Do what the Beatles did in less than 10 years.
Wings?
I saw them in HOUSTON IN 1964. IT WAS GENERAL ADMISSION And 100% HUMIDITY.
Mom stayed with me and my sister. 8am to 8pm outside in the heat. She brought lots of water and snacks.
Mom, it finally occurred to me why you took us to the Beatles and 100 more concerts.
BOC
ZEPPELIN
TOMMY JAMES and the SHONDELLS
URIAH HEAP
And MANY more.
THANKS MOM ❤❤❤
WOW!!
I raise my glass to John and George . . . much loved and sorely missed.
Devastated when they left us(were taken!!) Murdered and cancer… it still hurts. Ringo and Paul , Olivia and Yoko are carrying on without their mates.. so sad ..
YOU SAID IT, MATE... 🥰
Amen and salute
I just wish I could step in Paul’s or Ringo’s heads for one hour and absorb the memories of those days. What is it like to be one of them?
