- 60 years ago to this day, the Beatles made their first live performance on American Television, on the Ed Sullivan.
This marked the first wave of the British invasion of America, and the beginning of the global Beatlemania to follow. For my video, I am to recreate the Lead Guitar work of George, playing which inspired many to pick up the guitar at the time, and continues to inspire people to this very day through Internet videos!
I have tried my best to remain 100% faithful to the original parts, but of course I am human, and there are some slip ups along the way rhythmic wise, but I hope there are forgivable given the pressure I had to recreate this accurately! ;)
The show went as follows:
0:00 - Introduction to the Beatles
0:26 - 1) All My Loving
2:34 - 2) Till There Was You
4:45 - 3) She Loves You
7:05 - Commercial Break
7:31 - Introduction to 2nd Set
7:45 - 4) I Saw Her Standing There
10:24 - 5) I Want To Hold Your Hand - เพลง
Thanks for showing how great a player George atually was.
Wow. He is an even better player than I thought
Add in that he was dealing with a 102° fever during the show and it's even more impressive.
For all those who claim that the Beatles were mediocre musicians playing Instruments
Who?

Oh God, such people must be dumber than the flat-Earthers!😂
Awesome job Luca!!! Great playing! I'm in love with the Gent
Thank you Lukas! I had so much fun making the video and I'm glad you enjoyed!! :)
Well done sir! You are fantastic. Replicating a known recording note-for-note really takes great skill and talent. Tom H.
Thank you for the kind words Tom! Very kind :)
60 years ago history was made, great job
This was so perfect!
Thank you so much Sam! Glad it was worth all the work haha!!
Legendary playing Luca! Absolutely nailed George’s playing on the Ed Sullivan show! Really enjoyed hearing the country gent and definitely didn’t realise how often George switched pickups/used the switches on the gent live. Favourite song was definitely I want to hold your hand, and really enjoyed seeing how to play the live version.
Thank you Luke! The Selector Switch changes on I Saw Her Standing There were quite difficult haha! Glad you enjoyed :)
Great! The highlight to me is Till There Was You
Must admit, spent some of it playing along on my kit, some just listening, either way, I loved it.
You killed the solo my friend. Wasn't a bad way to spend the 60th anniversary. :)
Jolly Good Luca, Jolly Good
Thank you Nate! Some of those solos took a while to learn! And that quick Selector Switch change took 15 TAKES 😭
haha me too i was playing rhythm
Amazing! Was there at the premiere 🎉🎉🎉
Haha! Just as good as the original haha?
@@LucaColaMusic it was! I just played along on my bass!
@@TheVeeeBoy Was doing it on my kit, heh
@@TheGingerDrummer2006 i was playing rhythm guitar lol!
Great playing and tone!
Thank you Levi! Loved making this :)
And all that work smiling, looking at the audience and keeping the coolest attitude. Big George and all the beatles.
Incredible job you did with this and such great attention to detail. THANK YOU !
Thank you Jim! Stick around for new videos! :)
this has to be one of the best videos on youtube, awesome stuff dude
You're completely right, man.
Thanks for the isolation of sorts you and George are great.
Thank you man! Very lovely compliment! :)
@@LucaColaMusic I’m a wanna be guitar player, at 72 it’s really hard to remember chord progressions. You are really reproducing my favorite Beatle’s music. It’s good to hear the music dissected but your talent to play these great lines are nothing short of amazing. I will be following and listening. Thank you
Thank you very much for subscribing! It's lovely to hear you want to get into guitar! And thank you for your compliment! I really means a lot, and helps with the self doubt I sometimes feel making my videos! Thank you mate :)
@@LucaColaMusic Dude you are a true musician, thank you.
Amazing...thank you!
Nice playing! It’s very accurate. Note for note.
This is amazing! Great job!
Thank you man! I'm happy you liked it!
Well executed Luca. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Rich! I'm very glad you liked it :)
Loved it! Amazing playing!
Thank you Paul! I'm very glad you liked it, the roundwounds made a world of a difference haha! I can't thank you enough for that revelation! :)
AMAZING
Really WELL done job!! Congrats!!
Many thanks Luis! Stick around for more videos ;)
I actually saw that show live on the Ed sullivan show, never forgot that Sunday night
Great job!
Love this
Awesome video and playing! And they did it all with only the instruments a small band in the 60's would have: guitars, combo amps, drums, and house PA ... no effects beside reverb and maybe board compression from the TV studio. Mind you, it appears that the amps were NOT mic'd into PA. Most importantly, their sound was CLEAN!!!
Very interesting and well done
Tremendous!
this is amazing
Cool!
Nice job my friend, my favorite was Till There Was You, you nailed it!
Thank you man! Very kind :)
Beautiful Luca.. Subscribed
You nailed it. Great job. Always considered George, the best guitarist in the band. I’ll stick to my rhythm guitar..👍
I absolutely agree! He had some amazing lines in Till There Was You! Glad you enjoyed it! :)
And they say Paul and Ringo held the band together, rubbish! This is the heart of the music.
Nice playing 🔥🤘🏼
Thank you!
Great work! 🙂 I hope you can do also Lennon part
Great video! People should keep in mind that George did this while suffering from strep throat and a high fever. He was too sick to participate in the rehearsal the day before. Neil Aspinall had to stand in his place.
Good job
Muy bueno, te felicito, George Harrison FOREVER
¡Gracias hombre! ¡Me alegra que hayas disfrutado mi vídeo!
Wow…
Thank you mate! It took a lot of time haha!
I can tell! Keep up the great work 😁
love this!! please do the second ed sullivan show in miami🙏 or the washington coliseum concert
Very interesting.
Fantastic sound, nothing like Grestch Gent!
Absolutely! The sound is unbeatable! Glad you enjoyed the video :)
Fantastic!!!! 👏
But I have always wondered why The Beatles played their songs in a different key
Thank you man! It seems like a weird decision but hey its history now haha!
Love this take. His leads are all music by themselves.
I couldn't agree any more! George's melodic lines were unmatched and continue to be to this day!
so pretty !!!
During She loves you a lot of people don't hear George play the first (of two) " Yeah yeah yeah's on his guitar. That's the recurring theme (Leimotif) of the song.
I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about, or how it could be considered leitmotif haha?
@LucaColaMusic A leitmotif or recurring theme refers to something that occurs over and over again in things such as a novel, a motion picture or in this case, a song. In She loves you it would be when John and Paul sing "Yeah yeah yeah several times throughout the song. It's at the beginning, throughout and at the end of the song.
And during the song George plays it on his guitar as well.
You can hear it after the line " Because she loves you" and after "And you know that can't be bad". The guitar is modeling the vocal.
I am aware of what a Leitmotif is, but I'm not sure that's the correct usage of the phrase
@@LucaColaMusic That's ok. I'm sure.
SET HIM FREE by APOLOGETIX a great Beatles parody
What a fantastic performance have a good weekend also I have subscribed to the channel ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊
Thank you Mate! I'm glad you subscribed! Stick around for more videos!
Kieth Richards claimed that George had a "thin sound on guitar." Keith Richards is mistaken and miles behind him.
What Keith meant was that George Martin made George's guitar sound thin. Listen to the BBC sessions and you will understand that he was right.
To me a Beatle fan who saw this TV show and them live in 1966, yes, George could have given it a little base. That beautiful Gretch has it, however I’m not going to second guess George a Fricking Beatle! At 7:45 it wasn’t thin. But then Stones are Stones and Keith is Keff still rocking.
👍
I have always wanted to know why the songs were toned down in this presentation.
Beatles live at Melbourne, please?
I might! It seems quite a niche idea but I may give it a shot!
where can i find I saw her standing there from this show? Been looking for a minute
It used to be up on TH-cam, but even before I made this video it got copyright striked. You can find a Google Drive link in the description of a video somewhere on here and download the whole of the first performance. I'll see if I can find it
COME TO FATHER by APOLOGETIX a great Beatles parody
Wait ...His (all) guitars are tuned down to Eb?!
friend, how did you manage to adapt to equalization apart from having the great gleteman?
I'm not sure I understand what you mean?
@@LucaColaMusic I mean how to equalize the amplifier to sound as similar as you
Tune ? 432hz? D? D#?
The guitar is tuned a semitone below E standard tuning, so Eb!
@@LucaColaMusic D# thanks
What kinda strings?
For this video I'm using the Factory Gretsch Strings, which appear to be D'addarios! Rounds as well haha! I'm thinking of getting some reissue sonomatic rounds at some point ;)
ed sulivan got mad at the beatles and unplugged everything but forgot georges guitar and you can slightly hear paul in the pickups
What?
Why are you using 2 kind of Bars techniques?
There isn't really an explanation, it was just what felt most comfortable at the time. Plus George barred with his ring finger in the video, but using my pinky on the lower frets feels less awkward compared to using my ring finger on the lower frets.
Would you be interested in collaborating on drive my car? I'd need a lead sample if possible
Very nice job. I would only note that the solo on ALL MY LOVING missed couple of forms. Check out this version and see what you think: th-cam.com/video/zZrxEqUr_Rg/w-d-xo.html
You sure he was using a hard pic?
What else would he have used haha? I'd love to know. Just using a regular pick
Well, I hate to disappoint you, but the stand out performance on All My Loving is Lennon's triplets. Very difficult to play.
I agree, very difficult part
how’s your knee?
Oops, this was so funny I accidently ignored it for 2 weeks 😬😬🖕
Now sing and do it like he does
Good one haha! I'm definitely no singer, so I'll leave that to the professionals! :)
Nah, that's not quite how george played the lead.
I'd like to see your interpretation then. Let's see you toil over the footage and audio for 2 weeks to try and decipher it. Didn't think so. I'm 90% certain this is how George played the lead. Quit talking shit mate.
No, dude, you don't hear the difference because you don't have the ear to hear it. @@LucaColaMusic
@@jerrylanglois7892 Huh? I only hear a difference in tone mate. I can't match George's exact tone from the day. Every note I play is a close as I could possibly make it. Granted there may be a few errors but I believe you are hideously wrong.
I'll just put it this way, you played it high on the chords, george played it more on the bottom, as a tribute to chet atkins.@@LucaColaMusic
@@jerrylanglois7892 On what song? You're gonna have to be more specific than that.
You can’t hear for the guitar ??????
Huh? This is a Guitar cover? If you want to hear the song, don't come here, listen to the original? Such a pointless criticism.
Promo*SM 😡
Pardon? Can you elaborate
you play it very poorly and the solo is a disaster
So why leave the comment..? I spent long and hard practicing and memorising these parts. You willing to give it a shot yourself and let the world see YOUR chops then? Didn't think so :)
GEORGE HARRISON, PARTE IMPORTANTE DEL SONIDO BEATLE 😊❤
I believe Harrison was only 20 years old when this show aired. He was already an accomplished guitarist.
Great job!
Thank you! :)
