Hey Eric, thanks and another great video!
If you would like to do more 44 mag videos, you might want to try lower weight 44 cal projectiles. One of the loads I shoot from my desert eagle is Remington UMC 180 gr JSP. It's nothing fancy, but the box says it's 1610 fps, and 1036 ft-lbs out of the muzzle. I have verified this out of my 6" DE and the numbers were pretty much spot on. So, I would think they would benefit from the rifle length barrel and be a little flatter shooter out to distance. 180gr down range is no slouch!

I had a Marlin 1894 in .44 mag but had so much troubles with it that I ended up selling it. Being from France I couldn't send it back to factory. The rare times when I could get it to work properly it was very fun to use. Guess I'll buy a Rossi (still in .44RM) next year, they are cheaper and have less problems

Tracks pretty well with what I said about .44 mag on your 'unfair comparisons' gun gripe episode. As I said there, there's a reason my first 'go to' rifle was a Marlin 1894 CB in .44 mag, which lasted until I was able to afford a Ruger Mini-14 in .300 blackout, which has since itself been succeeded by an AR-15 I built, simply due to the convenience of putting things like a light and red dot on the AR over the Mini. Very useful stuff to have on a 'go to' rifle, thus why I upgraded as I was able to.
I'd be very interested more stuff like this, .41 mag (if you can find one), .357 mag, .327 Fed, etc. .44 mag's the only one I've put in any real time to find out what it does out of a rifle, as it's my choice in modernized lever gun cartridges, but I'd love to find out what dear old Dad's preferred .357 can do as well.

My Rossi lever action launches a .357 180gr XTP at 1550fps! Great hog gun. Hand loading with slower burning powder brings out the best in the lever actions!

I have a Marlin in 44 mag. I hunt with. It will kill over 200 yards. I use a 225 gr. FMJ and just breezes through. Glad to see someone on TH-cam end the argument I been having with a friend. Thanks.

Fantastic video! I hand load .45lc but I don't have a Chrono yet, so I've always been curious how many more fps I'm getting out of my Henry (with hot 45, not cowboy loads). This was an awesome video, thanks!

Glad you boys made the video. I've found this same data with my own .44mags. 44 and 357 both get huge gains moving to rifle...in fact the most gain of all (traditional) calibers. I can shoot right with my 30/30 loading 180gr (in the 44) and carry more in the tube. BTW I know from experience the 44 is plenty up to 200 yards.

Great video! I always wondered about that, but i also wanna see the difference between the Ruger 10/22 carbine Vs. The Compact 10/22. My research led me to believe that the 14" barrel for the 22lr will give optimum performance. But since thats unavailable for me here in California the 10/22 Compact is the next best thing.

Cassidy Bronson Big Horn Armory makes a lever action rifle chambered in 500 S&W. It’s a bit pricey and I’m a big Henry fan so I’m stuck waiting.

I love the Marlin brand of Lever Actions. Years ago I was initially looking to get one in .357Mag or even .44 Mag, but could not find one at any of the local gun shops or other stores, so I ended up buying my Marlin 336CS .30-30 Win. I bought a 3-9x33mm scope and some see-thru scope mounts to top it off. I also like Henry lever actions, but at the time they did not have any in .30-30Win.
I would to see other comparisons of pistol calibers between handguns and lever-action rifles! Definitely .357mag, and maybe .44-40 and 45LC.

i just bought a caldwell premium kit, went to range with my henry AW 44, handloads using Hornady xtp 240 and lehigh 160 xtreme hunters, was getting 1600-1700fps with xtp's using 2400 powder, on the lehigh xtreme hunters 160gr same powder 2400, i was getting 5 shot group running avg 2000fps shooting 1.5" group at 100yds, extremely happy with that.

Hey Eric... do you think the velocity would still increase in a 24 inch barrel or would it start to decrease due to complete powder usage and friction now taking over? Got a 24 inch barrel around by chance to try it out?
