  • Does your E90 have IBS? Do you need to register/code a new battery?
    As I explained in the video, I was 100% sure I needed to register my new battery on my BMW E90 form 2006. My battery died on me after 14 years of use. It looks like I don't need to code it because earlier models do not have IBS ( Intelligent Battery System). How to determine if your care has it? Take a look at my video. The exact explanation starts at 4:40.

I drove to two mechanics today to get it coded and they were asking for a 100 dollars so i was gonna buy a tool and do it myself but now it appears i dont have to.

    Very helpful and useful video. Just what I was looking for. Most talk about changing battery, coding and registration but won’t say what you said, “if you don’t have IBS you don’t need to code and here’s how to know if have or not have IBS.” how long did that take. Great research and keep up the good work!

    Hello Adrian, are you still available on this channel?
    I have a E92 with IBS and when I try to recode the battery it won't let me. So I think I have a conclusion. My car was imported and whas changed from RHD to LHD and I think that they possibly missed the B+ cable, and I am pretty sure that the B+ cable is the red cable in the middle of the 3 red cables on your positive battery terminal. Also, I am pretty sure that this cable is just connected to ground on the car, for some reason but it could also be connected to something and I don't know about this since I don't have any reference. BUT, my E92 does not have this cable. So I'm wondering if that could be the issue why I'm not able to recode my battery.
    Could you possibly locate this middle red cable and see where it's going on your car so that I can use it as a reference? Maybe it's and hopefully it's just for me to order one of these cables to be able to recode my battery.

      Hi. It is unclear from you comment if after changing the battery you still have thsi problem If yes I doubt it is from the IBS. IBS is a sensor that measures Voltage, temperature and charge/discharge cyles. I sugest to do ODB diagnostic.

    • @benassy69

      If You have IBS than yes. Otherwise your new battery will not last you as long. This is because the car does not know you have a new battery and it will feed it a higher voltage.

    I have e91 177hp n47 engine one. Last year i drive very short distances to/from work..around 7km one way. Noticed in last month that my clock on dash keep reseting with every start.. also orange vehicle check light pop out. Looks like my battery is on its way and thinking to buy one with higher Ah..something like 95 or 100.. as I retrofited heated seats. Just not sure if i can install battery with higher capacity.

    • @benassy69
      @benassy69  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the battery fits in the compartment than it is ok. But even though you retrofitted heated seats there is no need for a bigger battery. A bigger battery will charge fully even slower. Take a quality brand 85Ah and you will be fine.

    • @benassy69
      @benassy69  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you have the IBS sensor on the negative lead than you have to register it. If you dont do it than the ECU will consider you still have the old used battery and it will feed more curent to it. This will result in a premature death of the new battery. Hope I answered your question.

      Must be done with a Carly for BMW adapter or by a service. Cost depends on the service.

    • @CrazyCarMods
      @CrazyCarMods 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or you can use a coding app that is called protool, it is a coding app as well as a diagnostic scanner. BMW dealer asks $150 USD to code it, yet it depends on the dealer. Must Dealers won't code a battery that wasn't sold by them, which in turn it will increase the cost. You can code it yourself, it's easy. Check out either Carly or Protool. Both are good. Protool is not vin locked, I'm not sure about Carly though.

      They are just the best batteries. I had a non AGM battery in a 2007 328xi that had ELV (electric steering lock) and the battery messed up my IBS and locked up my ELV and I couldn’t start the car, I had to get it towed to a shop that had a snap on diagnostics tablet so they could reprogram my ELV. And the battery ruined my IBS. So I had to get a new battery and when they went to program it into the car they couldn’t because the non agm battery fried my IBS and that’s when I drove it home after they unlocked my ELV and I installed a new IBS and then I was able to program my battery to The car. So I would always get an AGM battery with bmw , really just a personal preference because of the trouble I went through with not having one.

    Hi, i have a 2007 330i. Everything was working perfectly but few days back my battery suddenly gave up. The car doesn't start or crank, just a click sound when the push the start. All the interior lights, radios, locking are still working. Is my battery really dead or it might be a different issue? Car came without a IBS. How can i really confirm if its the battery.

    • @benassy69
      @benassy69  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. The battery needs to feed up to 80 Ah of power at startup. This is a huge amount of power in order to crank the motor. The interior lights and radio need way less power to operate...thats why they work. Your battery is for sure discharged. The simples way to be sure is to charge the batter for an hour and test it again. After that buy a new battery and that's it! Your description clearly describes a faulty battery

    • @benassy69
      @benassy69  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. It does not have anything to do with the registration. You have a massive consumer in your car.Could be a short to the ground somewhere. The troubleshooting procedure is to connect an Amphermeter in series with the battery and remove fuses one by one from the fuse box until the Amp consumtion drops. Than you know which is the cause by identifying the right fuse.
