BMW DIAGNOSIS/ IBS FAULTS INFORMATION

- My BMW was not showing my current oil level status so i investigated the situation and it all pointed to the IBS system stored faults. ⚠️IBS MUST BE REPLACED AT BMW DEALERSHIP because of SOFTWARE UPDATES/ voltage communications between DME and IBS / BSD bus systems / BATTERY state of charge/ state of health.
Work notes:
Sometimes talking to some not all service advisors about stuff like this is like pulling teeth because they have no idea what your talking about. I was lucky to have my latest experience with a service advisor who really wanted as much info to help mitigate time. Thats why its best to learn as much as you can so when they print a repair order the tech can get right to the point. Trouble shooting can take hours. As the consumer, it can cost us big bucks when we have no idea whats really going on.

God bless you ...this also causes the engine to give a warning of 'engine too hot drive moderately" when scanned it says battery sensor missing" (IBS) .....
On bmw I've noticed that qhen the level (oil level) is low the level on the display won't show and that I have checked the level by draining and measuring the actual level especially turbo charged engines. For example n 20 woud not let take the readings and i discover that was running on very low oil.
Also the blower fan wasn’t working for a long time ans I was just told I need to replace it but all of the sudden after the clock stopped losing power the blower fan works fine. And yes it’s warmer out but this was always an issue in the summer.
That blower motor may need replacing tho...and theres also a resistor that may be the culprit ....and blower motors often collect debris so it may need some maintenance like cleaned out.
Your Carly does mention the Oil Level Sensor, but its written in German "Oelzustandssensor", BSD Communication (Oelzustandssensor), missing code 003446.
Already replaced it ...brand new one at time of recording...could be battery sensor not sure

I have a similar problem with my wife x5 2007 e70. Battery goes weak and wont start the car. I found that the alternator intermittent when is hot wont put out more than 11vdc out. Now listened to you I am wonder is this can be cause by the IBS and not by the Alternator. I installed two batteries new in the last two years AC Delio. Car wont start Normally about 10 o 15 minutes after shut down, but will start with a jump start with a good battery.
Date and time faults always on the I drive and increase battery discharge
Would like your advise before I change the alternator. (On order)

I change all the oil and take it in regularly I’ve already been through replacing everything in the oil gasket housing etc. now my clock is working all of the sudden but just lagging but no longer going to null. I think it may have something to do with how far I park my car from the key. It seems to drain. I have read tho the ibs can cause sensors to not work properly with the temp sensors and this can affect the cooling long term. It’s 2008 328i manual. 160k miles.
Oh yeah very familiar i use to have one ...mine was a coupe and actually started the channel with that vehicle....you can always have the ibs sensor taken out and have the car run normally with out it...just to check to see if it is the ibs sensor causing the issues in your car...but at the end of the day...and im sorry to say these vehicles become endless money pits ...and that s the truth...to me personally i love them and if the engine good ..and my car is not breaking down , the suspension, transmission, brakes fluids are ok ...i stay happy with it....i also have a second vehicle so im not going to dump my money too much on minor issues is the point im trying to get at....but if im not happy with a vehicle then its time for something worth it🤷🏽♂️ My 335i was worth it...after my 328...and i also have a chevy tahoe 2007 thT i enjoy as well ...gives the bmw some relax time😃
hey guys , i have a 2008 e90 318i. i have problem , when i driving hot days in dashboard starting errors , ABS, Weel , And other check errors , after 2-3 min The steering wheel gets stiff and if I don't stop the car and turn it off, it turns off by itself while driving . when i turn off car after can not start without Battery Jumper, today i have changed to new battery , also not working start/stop i have 95ah AGM battery . i have registered it by Carista app but not working automatic Start stop , it is not problem , the big problem is idk ibs or what ? i have watched many videos and when i turning obd2 live data , i start my car battery V comming 14,5-14,6 but in engine Diagnostik it says abs sensor error . when i deleting errors , turning off car , after when i starting again error ibs sensor. (😢 please if you know whats going on help me .
if i take of ibs sensor (blue plugin) have any problem my car ? because when i try off it car working normaly , i am scarry i dont know if i remove it after my battery power going down ?
I have a 2010 335i and I changed the water pump and now the pump stays on for 25 minutes with the car off, then if I open the door it comes back on for another 25 minutes, if I turn on the ignition the pump turns off until the car is turned on , any idea or this is normal ?? Btw no codes
Sounds normal thats what my car did….its bleeding the system …the IBS on the terminal sends a signal to

Nothing else for me ...but if it were really messed up u can technically remove it and be fine

Same issue in my e90 335i
In my case water pump need replaced.

Does anybody knows if once you register the battery at new installation...does it need to register every time you disconnect the neg terminal
No...and thats because the same battery is still being used....Registration applies to new battery so the ECU knows

I didnt even bother ...but only the dealer or official bmw scan tool can reprogram it ...basically replace the ibs sensor and program it ....im not worried about this because the vehicle already lets u know when its time for oil change
Wondering if you got this fixed. Been faulting the ibs code on ans off for years and I keep having to replace the steering pump, now the radiator, and the oil temp level sensor doesn’t work right away and affects the clock lagging and going to null. I just spend thousands to fix the major engine but the Ibs sensor doesn’t always read and no dealer or mechanic seems to care about this sensor. I’m trying to save my baby and am so upset over this electrical component I fear keeps ruining my car
Its not the ibs sensor ruining your car....it may show codes though...what year is it??? Things wear our over time...bmws are high performance vehicles
And no i didnt get it done...im not worried about it because everything is up to par with my vehicle and the ibs doesn’t concern me....there is still an oil pressure sensor that will still warn me to change the oil or add...plus i keep track of it and know when to change my oil
Same problem facing now I drive showed which was showing in video !!!!but Diagnosed “computer”showed (Bsd data bus communication Faults) is that “IBS”
So yes some where along those lines theres a fault....connections to water pump...ibs on battery...plus most like likely ground connections maybe corroded ...i know for a fact i have a ground that is corroded ...its on the back right side of the engine bay next to intake manifold

Nope im not worried about it...its going to be ridiculous money to fix i bet at bmw...im just going to keep track of when i need my oil changes....if they give me a good price then i will think about getting done on my next oil change

Be programmed by bmw and your level sensor may be the culprit also needs programming
May be it's due to leaking water pump shorting the IBS sensor connector on the water pump. If the water pump is getting faulty then also you will have the same issue
