i was wondering u mentioned that u could override the fans via motherboard software if the motherboard had 3pin 5v connectors, my mother board does but i do not understand how to connect the molex to the 3 pin 5v, could u explain that to me as i really dont want to spend more money to change the fans. my motherboard is asrock b660 pro rs btw

    • @nerdonabudget
      @nerdonabudget  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@mich1904 The molex has to be connected to the power supply, not the motherboard. The additional 3 pin connector coming off of the case, that is what connects to the motherboard. Molex primarily is there to spin the fans, and the 3 pin to control the colors. If there is no 3 pin connected to the motherboard, then the molex ends up also powering the controller to create the rgb effects built into the case

@@mich1904 i’m wondering if you ever got a solution of this. I’m having almost the exact same predicament. I’m using an external controller that’s plugged into the motherboard argb header, and also have the RGB from the fans connected to my other RGB header on the motherboard, but I still can’t control them even with the controller’s remote, or with polychrome RGB. Are we supposed to remove maybe the white molex from the centipede chain? What’s crazy is that all my fans and devices are in sync, but I don’t have control of them, and even the ones that are completely independent, seem to be overwritten by the case?

Definitely 💯 helped! I went with the green/Mint version of this case! For the price you can’t go wrong. I did end up going with 9 fans from a different company and that company’s controller instead just so it was maxed out with cooling and lighting ! I also went with the same white theme for coolers and fans as well! I did all white cooler and white housing argb fans ! I will show a update as soon as the rest of the parts arrive! Waiting on the new CPU , Ram & SFX FULLY MODULAR psu comes to get rid of the non modular psu out as well as the sleeve cables I went with! Thank you for your review 😊

The V2 went to a slightly better controller, The DIYPC ARGB-Q8 was also quietly upgraded to the slightly better fans as well. It seems they are phasing the Molex crap out of all their cases, But going back 5 years ago I was getting cases from the same brand, at the same price point with real 6 fan controllers with remote and 5v passthrough. So they just went way backwards, just to realize they cheeped out to much and trying to find the "acceptable" line with corner cutting. So the v2 is better, but I've seen better from the same company.

🤔Interesting and at the same time a bit confusing for me that especially in North America so many PC builders are so interested in absolute budget cases. I currently own 3 ALL AMD systems myself and with a rather average income of 1500 € I still used a real Lian Li case for all 3 and have always handled it like this before 😌 of course I won't use an O11EVO for the 2 and 3 system 😌 But it ended up being a Lancool II Mesh and a Lancool 216. One of my rules is never skimp on the power supply unit and the case, one ensures the system has a solid power supply and in the other I have to be able to work and build sensibly and nowadays also look at it every day, which is purely aesthetic but an important point. In addition, cases from brand manufacturers are not much more expensive than the low-budget compromise solutions, as you can see very nicely with a Lian Li Lancool 216. For around €100 or a little over $90, I think you get a lot with very good features 🙂👍🏻👍🏻

None of the cons are big deals for me, I just ordered one. Went with the green because it's the cheapest option, $50 on sale right now, and it's not white or black! I don't have anything about white or black cases, but seeing those colors almost exclusively for twenty years now, they're kind of played out. I have extra fans and controllers already, so that part is a non-issue for me.
I'm kind of with you on how they mounted the glass panel, but I don't think it's that huge of a thing. Heck, my current case, a wood one, uses _eight_ screws on the side panel that you have to undo every single time, even to access the PSU switch because it's internal.
Now let's just hope it gets here in one piece.

Were you ever able to get the RGB to work? I just set up this case for my daughter, and I expected there to be the difficulty with the fans and RGB… But even after plugging in through a controller to the motherboard, they still continue to do the cycling thing and polychrome can’t take over. Was I supposed to remove a connection or a molex or something?

I've done a couple of builds in this one, it's a good deal at under $60 but frankly over that and there are higher-quality options. I do love the concept of a MATX O11 clone. But of course this is a cheap, relatively low-quality case meant for budget builds.
The RGB control is definitely disappointing. It's fine for a new user who's unlikely to care or fiddle with it too much, but for anyone who wants real control, it simply isn;t good enough.
It's a good option for flips, overall, simply because of the price.

Understand the glass mounting due to recycling an old case design, but the controller and fans are a whole other issue. I think the DIY PC building community as a whole has increased expectations for case features while not wanting to pay more for more modern tempered glass and rainbow unicorn case options.

this is the style of case a lot of prebuilds are moving to. as for fans I'm going to have a radiator there anyways. im going to use the biggest liquid cpu cooler I can in this case lengthwise, so it cancels the fan issue out. as for the way the tempered glass was mis mounted i had a panel just spontaneously explode in my hands. that was mostly my fault. i was just too lazy to do cable management and had to buy a new case. the case on my other computer had kind of a lip on the glass that catches on the metal fame then 2 thumbscrews on top. it's still an old design and that case isn't made anymore. so, I didn't have that issue. las i saw it i saw it for $!5 and it had bad reviews but i haven't had any major issues.

Despite the horrible RGB controller, I like this case. It looks good, the fans themselves work, and this makes any build look better. I can deal with the niggles, I build something it stays that way (as in I rarely if ever open it up again). I get the points you've made, but for most folks it's really not that bad. Monotech cases were my go to for flips...but I hardly flip anymore so something a bit above that for myself to use is what I'm after now. Good review s always Danny!

It does seem to be the way where you find a case that you really like the look of at an affordable price & there have been some annoying corners cut to get there, with some of them like the side TG mount just making you go ???🤷‍♂???
Ps we spoke about you getting video sponsors to help support funding content in Livestreams & I think Brilliant was a very good choice.
It is not only inline with what you hope to achieve with the channel educating about PCs, but Promoting Real Educational Content is very important these days with so much misinformation/Blatant Lies to push a narative or to scam people using Social Media & the Internet.

I build and sell PCs as a side hustle, and I am right now building one in a DIYPC case and the fans are just like the ones in the case in this video connected through molex, and they are AWFUL. Worst fans I have ever encountered in a case. Absurdly loud, and you of course can't control the speed nor the RGB. And for being as loud as they are they don't really manage to move all that much air either.
I will never buy an entry level DIYPC case ever again. I'll stick to Sama, Raidmax and Gamdias and the like for my affordable builds (which are by far the ones that sell that fastest). None of the aforementioned cases are great, but for the same money (40-65 dollar range) they are in my opinion much better than DIYPC cases.
