Aloha braddah Andy, I think I shall start up my day now with one of your "Daily Pidgin" videos. Laughter is a great way to begin one's day. :-) Mahalo!
straight up genius mr. bumatai! i was lol's the whole time. i am interested in local comedy and want to know how to get started in the business. thanks
+Whabie Whabligone Sorry about that. LOL The subs are growing slowly. I think I'll do this pidgin thing for a while. It's nice to gets some views. Mahalo.
Nice! Too funny! If can try do a pidgin video with you repping all the different Islands Pidgin, Iʻm from Nanakuli and when I was young I went to Hilo and notice that they use different words there when speaking pidgin, Kauaʻi also had a different way of doing things. Thanks for the videos, good thing I from Nanaz Iʻll have my faddah pick me up some Olelo Maikaʻi voice box...I live in New Zealand now so it going com in handy eh....shootz
I saw people that I worked with at UHH who had a built in Olelo switch. I could tell whether they were conducting business or talking story by the "Voice" they were using. My switch is not that well developed because I did not grow-up in Hawaii. I do a much better job understanding than I do speaking. I tink i'm going buy one:
Ho brah! I wen try "friend" you on Facebookbook but no can! I think da videos so popular your friends list wen hit da limit. Love da pidgin videos! Liked, Shared, and Subscribed!
I grew up in Pearl City...my brothers and I were just about the only haoles at Manana Elem School in the early 70’s. It was an eye-opener to learn proper English when we moved to the mainland but it was fun to say words like *fut* and *she-she* as loud as we wanted to and no one would know what we were saying to each other.😆
I knew I needed one of doze when I wen use da term "hana bada dayz" speaking wit one group of mainland haoles and they all wen "what?". Then I slipped again by saying something like "hamajang" or "bumbye" or "how u figgah?" I really did it wen I asked dem if da poke was "broke da mout." PIdgin, or Standard English no matter which as long as you can communicate good enuff. Can you send me one wit da old style clothes pin without the metal spring?
Ho, brah! I wen' marry one wahine from Canada. She stay always, "Can we please revert to the Queen's English?" Had to hele back to da mainland for one little while and you keep me da kine wen' I stay homesick. Big mahalos braddah Andy!
Andy is doing more with humor to gain understanding for, and reduce fear of, local culture than all those cultural sensitivity trainings. This is important cuse we want employers to hire local. I'm so sick of immigrants from the Continent landing jobs instantly, while locals are looked over because they don't speak "proper" English. My old boss was almost lie-dat. Cood flip da switch errytime. Bumatai's vocabulary in both languages is much broader. He's invented BBC Pidgin.
Hey gang! As of 2/4/24, Andy comes on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3pm HST - 5pm PST (6PM after the time changes) and 8pm EST. (9pm after the time changes). Join the fun by searching Andy Bumatai or Daily Pidgin on TH-cam! COME AND ENJOY THE ALOHA VIBES!!

I want one like NOW,.. I am an island boy, but da island is that little green one off to da left of da big English one. Gettin' tired gettin' my super-haole whitefish-belly face shoved into da poke,.. though,.. I do get lots free(ish) poke dat way.. (( I am studying all your videos intensely so as to infiltrate "pidgin society" and get more "Who said dat, YOU said dat!?" kine responses to my blithering from da locals. Would be fun, might be dangerous. But, hey, I like to live on the edge! :) ))
Oh shoots brah I one haole but I stay Hawaii long time. I for learn talk da kine pigen so da brahders at work for no what I askin dem. You got one dees dat go da uder way cause I tired for try teach da uder haoles. Day not so akami like me.
