I grew up listening to my mom’s side of the family speak Pidgin! They’ve all passed now but it’s so refreshing to hear it spoken again! Thank You so much for sharing this! Mahalo Nui!
Hey Andy, my family wen move to Oahu in ‘66 an enroll me to Washington intermediate where I get lessons in pidgin, crack seed, and lunch- “You like beef?” I say “ We’ll I guess so”. Da bugah wen laugh and became my friend. Love Hawaii!
Enjoying local talk. My 5 yr old hapa haole nephew came home one day many years ago and said to his haole auntie (me),.... look what I can say. He then spoke in Pidgin to me very proudly. I grinned and said can you teach me.....he looked up and said NO! Next I asked him how am I going to learn Pidgin.....at which point he said you have to listen. End of conversation. Mahalo so we can listen and learn for those of us who love Hawaii.
