I'm 33 years old. I grew up watching Robert Osborne - he was a teacher for me. I swear I was born in the wrong era, as a child I was always drawn to old films. And still to this day, I appreciate the stars of the Golden Era. I shock myself and other people when I share what I know about films and the stars of the 20th century. Things you wouldn't expect someone to know down to the least expected detail. I would have loved to be in Mr. Osborne's shoes - I live my fascination and appreciation for film through him. Continue to rest in peace, Robert Osborne. Thank you for your talent. ❤️

I watched him TCM for many many years and I always learned something new an interesting from his programs. I have to say I especially enjoyed his programs with Alec Baldwin and I feel that those two had a very special bond. I just watched and listened to this three-part special about Robert Osborne's life and I was amazed at how lucky he was but he did take the best advantage of every opportunity and he deserved everything good that happened to him. What a nice man, a humble man, and he is greatly missed. Thank you Alec Baldwin for this spectacular retrospective of a truly gifted man.

Just love Robert Osborne, I feel as though I lost a close friend. Didn't realize he was so tall and broad, what a wonderful smile, that says it all. Great respect for a great man. Rose

I don't have cable anymore, but I do find myself missing Turner Classic Movies the most. And I miss Robert Osbourne. I am not going to trash talk current hosts, but it's been two years, and I still miss that familiar face that provided an education for me into the history of film.

Well said.. before I moved to Lugano the last movie I watched was North by Northwest.. and Robert Osborne did the 4 minute preview of it.. he always made me interested in something I never thought I was interested in.. thats saying something.. time flies people... enjoy it..

Don't miss TCM too much anymore - I have been a watcher since its inception in '94 and there is less and less to DVR - it's now mostly '60's-80's. It is certainly not the same.

Yes, I remember Robert Osbourne and TCM. I even ordered their catalog before. That book was huge and it had just about any movie I could think of.

I literally cried when Robert Osborne died and I had NEVER done that before about someone i had never met. He meant that much to me I had realized for years that "something was wrong" but his death hit me hard. It's mid-COVID 2020 and I still miss him. TCM is NOT the same.

Robert is a living example of how treating others the way you wan to to be treated will bring you success every time . The Universe always answers to love and kindness . We can all learn something from Robert. He had Faith and believed in what he wanted . He scripted his life right out of his imagination in full technicolor . He never gave up and his love of movies propelled him father than his need to pay the Bills . He wasn't driven by fame and fortune . Because of all these things he never worked a day in his life he simply loved living it, when you love what you do you'll never work a day in your car life

I have to say that I was lucky to have grown up in the suburbs of Chicago. Old movies were shown almost daily, and from the time I was 12 years old I LOVED them. I still watch them regularly now that I'm 67, and will never tire of watching the classics. 99% of the movies made today don't interest me in the least. Sad that "The Golden Era" is gone...

I didn't know Robert had passed away and feel sad about it, you could tell he was a really special person, he had good vibrations around him. Alex really brought out the real Robert Osborne in depth and really enjoyed this conversation between the two of them.

I am 54 years old and have been a classic movie fan ever since I can remember watching those films with my mom and dad as a toddler. I have observed that most people my age do not share this interest, but they are often impressed and amused, if not at least tolerant, about my knowledge of all things classic cinema; many have remarked that I could have done Robert Osborne's job, which I always find highly complementary, albeit quite ludicrous. I am deeply saddened by Mr. Osborne's death and actually cried when I heard the news of his passing; it's a strange feeling because I never met the man. I felt the same way when Roger Ebert died; both men enriched my love, knowledge and enjoyment of "the movies," and are two people with whom I would have loved to share a drink and discuss all things cinema. At least their books remain. God bless you Robert Osborne; may you rest in peace. You will be missed.

I totally agree with you, sounds like me telling my story, but I'm older than you by 10 years. My Mom was such a movie fan, so I grew up with the Classics, that was my most fun as a child, watching the old movies, especially with Mom, who knew so much about the stars and told me their stories. I feel like I was a friend of Robert Osborne and am sad he is gone. So many people love him as well, what a wonderful thing. Thanks, Rose

1:10 Ha! I was watching this and kept thinking he *had* to have known Roddy McDowall. They were both such avid lovers of film and the creative people who made them and also seemed to know everybody and made friends with the big and sometimes forgotten leading ladies. Roddy would have made a great host too imo....
Robert was such a charming, gentle man. I'm so glad he found his perfect spot in life, and that we benefited for so long

I LOVE the point that Alec Baldwin makes at the 7:49 mark.....as humble, and as classy as Robert Osborne was, and the fact that he keeps saying throughout this interview how big a role 'luck' played in his life, it is Baldwin who reminds him that though luck MAY have played a role in his success, it was ACTUALLY Robert's charm, and talent that ALLOWED those "lucky breaks" to eventually get him to TCM, and the 'Wonderful Life' that he SO clearly cherished living!
Had Robert Osborne been some unlikeable, completely talentless hack, who just happened to show up at all those pivotal moments in his life where luck just magically seemed to somehow then get him to that NEXT pivotal life moment (eventually leading him to TCM), do you REALLY think ANYBODY would have EVER taken him seriously........much less ever wanted to hire him? Absolutely not!
In other words......Robert Osborne MADE his own luck! And for that, we can be FOREVER grateful !!
    .

I agree - the clip when Bette Davis looks at him for the firs time at that showbiz dinner - even before he kisses her hand you can see that look of a person thinking wow who are you i think i like you - its an instinct thing that all of us experience from time to time when we meet someone special for the first time

Robert Osborne was the host on Turner Classic Movies from its inception in 1994, in large part due to his deep and abiding love and knowledge of film. Osborne got his start working for Lucille...
