    I love the house. People have to understand, settlers back in 1840, were self sufficient. Went to town, maybe once a year. Had chickens, pigs, milk cow, horses and utility wagon, plows. God Bless them. They made a strong, self reliant nation, called America The Beautiful.

    Boy if i had the money i would-buy that property in a second. It is beautiful. Just beautiful. So relaxing. Boy if those walls could talk..... if I bought it I would take a metal detector I bet you would find some treasures. Does anybody know how much it is. That would even make a good retreat. Like rent it out to couples or people who just want to get away. A lot of hard work went in that. A lot of blood, sweat, and hard work. The wood inside is gorgeous. Just one of those special,special places. Thank you for the video Very beautiful

      Hey Dena.....,sorry to contradict your statement...I love this idiom and I spent quite some time concerning its origin.....its first appearance in writing was in
      Grahams Americans Monthly Magazine , Jun.1851 and you will see- it is refering to a body of water......no risen indians there :-)
      Sorry again Dena,I myself would have liked the "Indian" version more......

      From what I just looked up Kentucky is a Commonwealth state.

    • @BradSimmons
      @BradSimmons  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +OldHippieChick - you might need to explain why... I've been living here for decades and I can't tell a difference -
      except low expenses. Regarding the differences - here's what I found.
      The United States of America is composed of fifty states and several territories, but four of these states and two territories are officially called commonwealths although there is really no difference between the four commonwealths and the other states. Kentucky, Virginia, and Massachusetts were the hotbeds of revolution, taking pride in their fight against British rule. They departed from the Union and adapted the name “commonwealth” to show the difference in government.
      Summary:
      1.A commonwealth is a politically organized body of people which is under one government while a state is a territory which is controlled and governed by a particular nation.
      2.Examples of commonwealths are the members of the British Commonwealth like Australia and New Zealand and the four states of the USA composed of Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Virginia, and Massachusetts while examples of states are the other 46 states of the USA like Alaska and California.
      3.Some associated territories of the USA are also called commonwealths, but none are called states because they do not enjoy all the privileges that other states have.
      4.The four states which are officially called commonwealths retained the title they had when they departed from the Union rather than adopt the title of “state.”

    • @patrick7mary
      @patrick7mary 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Yes, so now I had to look it up, fascinating stuff. Benjamin Hawkins, an Indian agent (principle agent for the Creek Indians) is noted for this phrase. He (b15aug1754-d6jun1816) was a planter, statesman, delegate in Congress and a Senator- NC. appointed by President George Washington as General superintendent of Indian Affairs(1796-1818 / but he died suddenly in 1816)... he negotiated one of the longest running peace treaties with the Indians... but unfortunately the Indians were losing so much land, they had an uprising coinciding with the War of 1812... the Creek war 1813 - 1814, Andrew Jackson defeated the Red Sticks (Indians from the Creek Indians that formed The Red Sticks) in the battle known as the Battle of HorseShoe Bend. Interesting history ... I found two really nice sources just learning this by reading about it from this post. A wealth of knowledge our internet today, the biggest library at our fingertips;)

      Know that you have to adapt your lifestyle to live this way. Work from home or self employed? Central Kentucky can get some winter weather but it won’t be on the ground long. More of an inconvenience than a problem. If you take an income hit that may work out since your taxes and other expenses go down. Your wood stove saves energy money. Have a nice manageable garden then can in the summer. Wish it was mine!

    Love the Cabin its just too dark inside for my taste. I would of added bigger windows so you can enjoy the outside scenery awhile being inside with a nice view and also for more light. The drive to it was intense but it's the perfect place for privacy and peace. I would love to vacation at a place like that. Amazing!

      @Dr. Michael Johnson Jr Hey! Don't judge! Bobby Jean Price and Billy Joe Williams are the only guys on the road crew, they do their best, last year the county spent an extra couple hundred dollars and rented a back hoe from Tractor Supply Company, but they only had the machine for four hours, and it's an hour drive to the darn store, so they only got about an hour on the machine because the words on the buttons and levers got worn off so they took an extra half hour via the time tested trial by error method, so they did a good job, bless their hearts...

I have loved my New York City life for these past several decades, but as things slow down within me, I think more about having things slow down ~around~ me too! It's beautiful! But you would need a full time grounds keeper just to keep it mowed.
    A tractor with a snow blade would have to be your family vehicle in th wimter.
    Altho as lovely as it is, it is very impractical in case of an emergency, being that far out, with bad roads on top of that. A person would need to be life flighted just to get to an emergency care unit.
    If it were me, I would prefer having at least one neighbor close by in case you needed help.
    Beautiful but just a tad too secluded for me.
