Found most interesting that you distorted some facts. Historians aren't actually sure if Maine was where the breed originated, Maine Coon average full grown: 3 to 5 years, chirping Rather than meowing, super affectionate are true in some but not all Maine Coons. That said, I do appreciate Maine Coon footage

I can not believe that a maine coon was cloned. I never knew that. That is perfectly amazing!

I love this breed of cats and for the most part, I enjoyed the facts. However, it takes 4 to 5 years for a Maine Coon to be fully grown. Another fact that is inaccurate is the Maine Coon is not the largest domesticated breed of cat. They are one of the largest breeds. Please check the Siberian cat and the Ragdoll. I have been fortunate to have had 3 Maine Coons in my 60 years of life. I had two males. My first cat named Tubby lived to be 17, my second male cat, Aladdin passed away this past January, and I have a new female Maine Coon Kitten that I named Raja. I also have an 11 year old domesticated short hair named Jasmine. I wished when I was looking for Raja that she would have only cost $1,000. I searched all over Central Texas and here the cheapest I found was $1200. I paid $2100 for Raja. She is only 10 months old but she is worth every penny.
Thanks so much for your videos.

Great video. Except, I don't think you do justice to just what a great lap cat they are. They sit quietly for hours and are content whether you pet them or not. At least, the two I've had were like this. They may be big but, especially when they're on your lap, they're super gentle. I've had many, many cats in my life but Maine Coons are the only ones that will sit with you quietly for hours.

The second cat to wander into our farmhouse was a maine coon. He is a foot weaver, and a snuggle bug. He was in fairly rough shape when he got here. He loves his people. We have an Autistic girl here who has never liked cats, but tolerates, and will pet him

Actually cat's are a very very good therapy for lots of people including myself. After losing my wife 3 years ago I don't think we'll I know I would not have been able to make it through without my kitties. There not Maine coon kitties but I don't really think breeds have anything to do with it. True some breeds are better suited for different families but all in all all animals are special and deserve to be loved and cared for

I knew Maine Coons love water. Sassy Girl loved to go swimming. She was very talkative and mischievous. I thought $325 was a lot for a female pet quality kitten. I guess we got a bargain. She loved going for walks and riding in the car. She'd ask for her collar and leash and waited patiently until it was put on. She would drown her toys in her water bowl. She loved being brushed and was a ham when it came to having her photo taken. I miss my girl.

One thing you didn't mention is it takes 5 years for a Maine Coon to fully mature. Sassy girl took the whole five years. Every few months she'd have a growth spurt and would eat like there was no tomorrow. The last spurt was when she lost her kitten fur and grew her adult coats. She used to walk like she couldn't figure out what to do with her huge paws.

Since I've lived in Maine and have owned a couple Maine Coons I can say these are by a long way the best pet for most people. Awesome cat. They were cheap back in the 90's when we got them. We actually got a full bread Maine Coon from the shelter that would up being more than thirty pounds. It turned out he had feline leukemia which most shelters didn't test for back then so his life was short but he had a good one.

I lost my Teddy a few weeks ago 😢 He was 17 and had travelled around the world with me. Ted’s was 5 when i rescued him in Dubai and when I moved back to the UK at the start of COVID he came with me.
He was amazing, my big buddy, following me around the house and garden like my shadow. He loved nothing more than to follow me into the shower to drink the water off the floor when it was fresh our of the tap. He would literally roar like a lion when he had had a nap and woke up to realise you weren’t nearby. A little call of ‘Ted’s’ would calm him right down and you would get a meow chirp in return as he trotted downstairs to find me.
He loved doing Hi 5’s for Dreamies, and would fetch crunchy balls if you threw them for him. In the 12 years he was by my side he never hissed bit or scratched,
At his peak he was just over 10kg, which you knew about when he walked over you or your head at 2am to curl up contentedly around your head on the pillow.
I loved him so, so much. I miss him, he wasn’t a pet he was family. My Buddy Teddy, sleep well 😢

I have a main coon tuxedo kitten, he’s so clever, and definitely a love bug, he wants to be with me all the time.
He has a toy box that he goes to and takes out the toys he wants to play with.
I had a border collie when I lived in Ireland who was more intelligent than most people I know.
This little kitten is starting to make me feel like, omg I’ve got the same feeling again.

Congratulations on your new kitten. I am 60 years old, and I have had 3 Maine Coons. My newest Maine Coon kitten is a female who's only 10 months old. I hope that new kitten brings you many years of Joy. In my experience with my three cats all of them are very much in tune with you emotionally. Recently I lost a life long friend. When I heard the news I just couldn't keep from crying. Aladdin, my grown male cat, jumped on my lap, put each one of his paws around my neck and licked the tears from my cheeks. They're amazing animals.

I have had a LOT of cats come and go over the years. I always favored the Tuxedo cats. They seemed to be the most playful. Go fetch and such.. but they also seemed the ones that attracted predators because they would disappear mysteriously sooner or later. I now have a Norwegian Forest cat.. very much like a Maine Coon. He has no problem with other cats.. they cannot get through his thick fur. Do you have a Tuxedo Cat with the thick fur of the MaineCoon?

I bought my Maine coon two years ago and paid $1800. the next litter she had for sale she upped to $2000 because she had added the black smoke color to her available cats. I live in Ohio and it is very seldom that you can actually find a real Maine coon cat at an animal shelter. In fact in the contract when I purchased my MC stated that if I was no longer able to take care of him that she would like to have him back instead of go to a shelter. I think that’s a pretty common request. They may be easier to get at shelters in Maine though. I would also like to add that I love every cat I’ve ever had but my MC is extra special, he is by far one of the most intelligent cats I have ever had and in the top five most loving cats I have ever had, and I’ve had a lot of cats. If you’re thinking of getting one you won’t regret it.

We got a black MC male from the SPCA. Apparently he had been returned twice and was not in good shape. Well, he has turned into the most amazing cat and has a HUGE personality. Smart, WELL BEHAVED and he is a hunter. We have had him for several years now and he has blossomed. He hid for the first week we had him but he flops all over the place now. Such a handsome gentleman, NEVER demanding and has the sweetest trills. Follows us all over the house.

Maine Coon Shelter cats can also be found when my adopted Grey tabby male had to be put down I saw quite a few adult males available........................Female Maine Coons not so much PS you'll have an easier time adopting one if you don't get your heart set on a kitten, Those will be the most sought after. Got mine a 10 year old Sr when his person went to jail and the man wanted to see Kitty Boy(his name for him)go to a good home and I must say out of the 7 cats over 40 years Pretty Boy a black and white Tuxeedo markings has been my most unusual. One of the most surprising things to me is how many of these Maine Coon informatories has left out that DNA analysis has identified Norwegian Forest cat,An unknown extinct species of cat and the common domestic in their DNA make up and that brings in another possible origin which yes has been brought up before, "Genetic testing suggests the Maine Coon is a descendant of both the Norwegian Forest cat and a mysterious extinct domestic breed, so it's likely the Vikings are responsible. As for how Maine Coons got their names, one theory involves Captain Charles Coon, a British sea captain who kept long-haired cats aboard his ship.Jan 20, 2021

I have a female cat named Bingo who is half Maine Coon and at least part Turkish Angora. She's also a polydactyl, or six-toed cat, with big thumbs. She's very silky, surprisingly doesn't shed much, has a gorgeous feathery tail and is a chonk with a sweet belly flub. Itty bitty head, big body, and very loud when she wants something. I got her as one of my family's many foster fails for my birthday, because Bingo bonded so well with our other pets, and she was quite unique. She's almost 7 now, and is the only one of my three cats who wears a collar, which she loves.

Here in Central Texas there is a Maine Coon rescue center. I recently adopted a female Maine Coon kitten from Austin Animal Center, which listed her as a long hair domestic cat, but since I have had two pure bread Maine Coons I new by looking that AAC did not realize that she was a Maine Coon. I bet that you will be able to find one to adopt. I have also paid $2100 for a pure bred registered Maine Coon, and I would do it again if I could not find one to adopt.
I hope you're able to find one.

But totally loves the fam at the same time. He cost me $40 but I had no idea what he was besides his very short, ridged tail and a "primordial pouch" under his belly 😄. It's quite funny watching him run! Best cat breed I've ever had.

WE GOT OUR FIRST MC FROM A LADY WHO RAISED THEM FOR GOOD HOMES (TRUE CAT PEOPLE). WE WERE LIVING IN LOLO, SHE WAS IN TURAH. MY WIFE WORKED WITH HER IN MISSOULA AND WERE GOOD FRIENDS. WHEN "MOOSE KILLER" (HER CAR TAG AT THAT TIME) FOUND OUT THAT WE WERE CAT PEOPLE, SHE SUGGESTED A VISIT OUT TO THEIR LITTLE PLACE OF WONDER OUT IN THE MOUNTAINS. WE HAD OUR PICK OF SEVERAL, I CHOSE A SMALL TAWNY KITTEN, BUT AS WE WERE WALKING TO MY TRUCK, A 3 MONTH OLD MALE THAT WE HADN'T SEEN, CAME RUNNING FROM UNDER A SHRUB , LATCHED ON TO MY BRITCHES LEG AND PROCEEDED TO CLIMB RIGHT UP TO MY SHOULDERS. NEEDLESS TO SAY, HE PICKED US FOR HIS NEWLY ADOPTED PARENTS. I WANTED BOTH, BUT WIFEY SAID ID THAT KITTEN CHOSE US, THAT IT WOULD BE OUR ONLY NEW HEARTBEAT. WE NAMED HIM D.J. WE WERE TRANSPLANTS (MY JOB) FROM THE SOUTH AND WERE NASCAR NUTS, SO WE NAMED HIM "DALE JARRETT THE 88 NASCAT" AFTER OUR ROBERT YATES FORD ENGINE BUILDING MAIN DRIVER. ALMOST 18 YEARS LATER, AND 3 STATES LATER, I HELD HIM CLOSELY AS HE WAS PUT TO SLEEP. I TALKED TO HIM TO BE SURE HE KNEW HE WAS NOT ALONE (I CRIED FOR TWO SOLID WEEKS, AND THEN SOME) I'D BEEN RETIRED FOR A FEW YEARS, AND WITH AN EMPTY NEST (OUR TWO KIDS HAD FLOWN THE NEST MANY MOONS AGO), I DECIDED I WOULD SEARCH THE STATES FOR ANOTHER MC TO FILL THE HOLE IN OUR HEARTS. I FOUND A MC RESCUE IN TENN, APPLIED FOR AN ADOPTION, STRUCK OIL (BACK IN THE FUR BINNIS, LOL!!) DROVE FROM NEAT MOBILE TO NEAR NASHVILLE TO GET ROSIE, A 5 YEAR OLD GUERNSEY BLACK AND WHITE 17.5 POUND LADYCAT. AND IT WAS LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT. SHE SNIFFED AROUND, TAIL DRAGGING FOR 4 HOURS OR SO, AND HER NEW KINGDOM WAS HERS COMPLETELY. SHE IS THE BEST THING SINCE DJ, BUT A DIFFERENT PERSONALITY. MORE VOCAL, WANTS WATER FROM THE BATHROOM SINK, BUT DOEN'T SNIFF OR TASTE OUR EATS LIKE DJ DID. IN CLOSING, DJ HAD THROAT CANCER AND HE WAS IN SEVERE PAIN. HE COULDN'T SWALLOW WATER, LITTLE FOOD. HE'LL BE WAITING ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RAINBOW BRIDGE FOR ME FOR HIS FAVORITE BOO-HINEY SCRATCH. 73 AND A BAD TICKER, 7+YO ROSIE MAY BE THERE TOO, BUT I FEEL I WILL BE WAITING ON HER WITH DJ FOR AN INTRODUCTION TO HER NEW PLAYMATE.
    To my dearest friend.
I stood by your bed last night; I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying you found it hard to sleep.
I spoke to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
    "It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."
I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today; your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.
I was with you at my grave today; you tend it with such care.
I want to re-assure you, that I'm not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you; I smiled and said, "it's me."
You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.
It's possible for me, to be so near you everyday.
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."
You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...
in the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.
The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning
and say "good-night, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."
And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.
I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out...then come home to me.

I thought my cat was a Maine Coon, but after doing some research I figured out she was a Nebelung. She basically acts like a Maine Coon but she's a little smaller, still pretty big though. I'm a dog person but I have to admit that cats are very enjoyable to have around.

I have 4 ex-male Maine Coons (Grandpa, 2 sons, grandson/nephew). The grandson, Sebastian (tuxedo), has chosen me to be his favorite. Actually Sebastian was named after one of the characters in an Anime called (something) Butler, which of course, they wore tuxedos.
My thumbnail picture is of his mom (another tuxedo) she was truly my heart & soul. I miss her (Mini) so very much.

Three years ago a large cat attached himself to me at the bay where I walk. Skinny, could see his ribs. Friendly. Got him trapped and to the shelter. Not neutered, no chip. They vaccinated and neutered and I brought him home. Huge. Did DNA. 25% Mainecoon. Follow me, sleeps on my lap, runs, plays, eats and sleeps on bed. 22 lbs. probably 5-6 years. Goofy, klutzy and so loving. Delightful. He is my sunshine.

First time ever of having Maine Coon Kittens for ive never owned one nor have ive come across them in Cali since leaving Wi. in the mid 80s. 2 weeks old they already showing their features of being larger than most kittens i had of previous breeds. The biggest one has HUGE head and they all have extremly big square like paws as being thick at legs end. Their markings of patterns us evident of markings along their eyes along with body much like raccoons thou some Coons have solids as whole coat but all hairy mane as Maine likely associated with Mane like a lion's. Unique cats to have around in a climate being tropical in San Diego so obvius they be inside air conditioning rooms in Summers.

I got a chuckle out of the drumroll cymbal you added after that (not so corny) joke! haha! Although 1/3 of the cats you display look almost exactly like mine.. your description of them being vocal does not match mine.. he is a fixed male recovery cat that now weighs in almost 12 pounds! His purr is almost inaudible though and he never asks for anything.. but just looks me in the eye or pokes me in the face if I sleep too long. He most likely is a Norwegian Forest cat and NOT a Maine Coon. Right?

How can I tell if my cat is a Maine Coon versus a domestic longhair or a Norwegian forest cat??

  • @JohnGone-wl8uo
    @JohnGone-wl8uo 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Vocal is right! ....and strange sounds! My Kitten was 8 1/2 lbs at not quite 5 months. Sleeps on his extra long tail, chases/catches it, grooms tip laying on it!
Talks, jumps n leaps at feeding time as if he's starving, lays in wet shower, tracks through water bowl, keep toilet lid down or plays in it & no qualms about baths, dries off fast and chirps, squeaks, whistles at birds deer outside window.
Escapes, slyly waiting for open door. Has climbed 20 ft up tree, caught and killed a big mole at 4 mos and is bigger than older cat already.
Leaps on and attacks her.... still working them getting along... he will also jump small dogs and I thought he was going to be mellow.
He's a Terror on cat trees, going after laser lights like no cat I've ever seen... runs full force after laser light doing brodies, sliding, spinning and attacking it!😄

    • @kathyhague1867
      @kathyhague1867 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Different breeds have different traits that are more noticeable in certain breeds. I have five cats right now and yes they are all playful but a few of them are more playful than others. I have one that likes to drop toys in the water, I have one that likes to watch me cook, I have one that wants to sleep with me every night and nap with me in the daytime. All these traits happen to be the same cat that is my MC. Do my other cats like to play of course. Do my other cats like to nap with me? Mostly. Do my other cats like to watch me cook, no. My Maine coon is the most curious and the most intelligent and the most loving. He happens to have the traits that I like the best in my cats. And then my other cats have traits that he doesn’t have or not as much of. But they’re definitely not all the same!

$1000?? Ridiculous! I’ve never, and neither did my parents, ever pay for a cat! It makes zero sense when you realize how many cars are KILLED EVERY YEAR from over crowding in shelters, mostly. IMO if you really love cats & want one, why not RESCUE a cat instead?! The fee you may be asked for at a shelter is much less than the annual cost of running the shelter & supporting your new friend. IMO buying an exotic breed is a tad selfish.
