I had a Main Coon for 12 years and she was THE sweetest cat ever. She slept with me and never woke me up. She would talk to me and follow me around, but i found that quite endearing. She passed away a year ago and I miss her like crazy. I absolutely love Main Coons!
I own COONPALS MAINE COONS in Florida. All my Maine Coons do all these behaviors, plus... bite straws & QTips; knock things off tables & counters to test higher thinking skills "cause & effect," drink out of sinks, buckets toilets, bathtubs & pools; trip us while we're walking by getting under our feet or zooming between our legs; zoom outside when door is open; scratch on things not their posts or towers; pull anything within arms reach into their condos; shred paper towels, napkins, bags, paper ... all in all Coons are super smart, loveable & funny, so these behaviors make me laugh & smile! I call them my "Doggy Raccoon Cats!"
Absolutely! Buddy was ours a massive huge cat of equally very fuzzy furry mass lion mane. orange marmalade.he was a doll and so cute talkative and smart.very funny and sweet cuddler .really quite intelligent.could understand everything well. Oh what a foodie noodge! Yes you could not stop his whole head noodging all the way into the hagen daaz and the yoghurt.otherwise a health nut veggies and nonfat foods no junk food just prime cuts of chicken breast and halibut salmon tuna and peas a bit of lettuce broccoli cauliflower and carrots greenbeans .was so distraught seeing the sudden new baby rescued kitten until I told him it was for him--Buddy YOU got a new kitten. YOU needed a PET of your own too for yourself!! Ha ha! It worked!! He right away was so thrilled and cute as pie going to get the new kitty like his favorite toy and babied it and slept hugging and cuddling it. Ever after they did! Was perfect too because he was solo all thru our workdays m-f. Until this! Other cat was half Siamese and grey tuxedo with white paws adorable!
Same thing! One exception was Buddy would play sneak and peek and tap us on the nose early a.m. then lay back down pretending to be asleep like no it wuddnt me. Then one of us wake up and look around then fall back asleep and the other person watching him as he'd teally super sneak and creep up slowly and tucked low and the pull another fast paw slap on the nose of whichever person still sleeping...then duck down "asleep" and peeking slyly to check fir noticed or not!!! You could HEAR his paw slap popping right on top of the nose! What a total clown! And purring and snuggling too.
Always load them into their crate for vet visits on the kitchen counter. Check/clean boo-boos on the kitchen counter. Apply flea medicine on the kitchen counter. Anything the cat hates happens on the kitchen counter. Trust me, they will decide entirely on their own that they don't like the counter.
I researched for 2 months and talked to our local vet before purchasing my maine coon. I have always had bad sleeping habits and it's difficult for me to fall asleep. I knew I didn't want any animal waking me up all times of the night, since I got so little sleep to begin with. So I turned my spare bedroom into a catopia. I purchased an extra large cat tree for maine coons, and anchored it to the wall, beside the window. I purchased a water fountain, so he would have clean, flowing water. He also has a cat bed on the floor and in the opposite corner is his litter box. The best purchase I made was a 40 dollar box of cat toys from amazon, that came with 2 different tunnels, that I tacked to the floor. So once I put him in "his" room at bedtime, he never cries. Sometimes I can hear him playing before I fall asleep. Everything has worked out well. Maybe this will help someone.
Mines my foot warmer whenever I sleep 😴 oh and he’s an early riser 🤪🤪 I don’t think they understand the concept of night and day, they are just happy to be with you.
That is cool that you made a room for your fury kid!Ive got a spare room full of stuff i need to organize.Id like to do the same as you did for my furballs.Give the baby some lovin for me!
I had a Maine Coon for 16 years. He was smart as a whip, dog-like, affectionate, oily and constantly ate odd things. I loved him dearly and want another cat just like him.
Our Main Coon died two days ago, at the amazing age of 19 and seeing this vid reminded me so much of her. Especially the part about them not wanting to be alone. Great vid.
One of my coworkers came running up to me at work an said there was a bobcat cub behind a pallet. When I first saw her, I thought the same thing until I saw her tail. It was 3 years until I found out she was a Main Coon. She was a big cat for a female, 18 and a half pounds and startled a few people that saw her for the first time. She acted a lot like a dog and listened better than some dogs we've owned. She lived until 16 and I miss her every day. I went out and adopted another cat that's half Main Coon. She's so much like my other one, just smaller. They are also very affectionate, and as people say, they pick you.
Same here. When mine died I swear she came & checked on me periodically. The first time was several days after & I was crying, she peeked around a post at me (I could see her), later it was just a blur, a slight movement of air enough that my other cat saw & tracked her movement. Sounds a little crazy but I swear it happened. She was my heart & she knew me inside out. She would look into my eyes & read my mind. Never had another one like her. I feel lucky to have her in my life. They are goofy, sometimes clumsy, always wonderful.
I love Maine Coons - they are the best - my brother adopted a neighborhood kitty and Baby was just like a baby - he was the gentlest kitty. Why do people adopt a certain breed if they are not interested in the cats nature?
I adopted my main coon 3 weeks ago from a shelter and have experienced most of these things. But he is by far the sweetest cat I have ever met. I love him so much, I wouldn’t trade him for anything. He is bonded to a little tuxedo we took home too. They bring such joy to our home.
Thank you for sharing some of the realities, the “cons” of your lives with your beautiful Maine Coons. I know you are loving your cats, and so grateful to see your honesty in explaining truthfully to us other cat lovers the dilemmas you face. I had hoped to get another Maine Coon, as I had one many years ago, but as my age is advancing (now just turned 77 yrs) and living in a one bedroom apartment, I realize that my Maine Coon days are now to be enjoying videos like yours and visiting my friends who have Maine Coons. They are truly worth caring for as you have shown us. Thank you again, i so enjoy seeing your beautiful cats in your videos.
No your Maine Coon days aren't over. I have strokes because of brain strokes and actually Maine Coons seem to only live 10 years or a little older. And they help me be happy in my last years on this Earth. You can read my story above. Also you can just find a relative or friend who loves them and can help care for them now and with your passing. So many kitties need help from the pound and there are lots of Maine Coons their now. Go get an older cat who only has a few years and spoil it rotten. Poor darlings deserve a good end to life. They go through so much pain in their lives. I wish I could take them all home but we do what we can one kitty at a time! It will make your last years SO happy! SO enriched and save a life to boot!
I so appreciate what you are facing. Although right now I have 3 MCs, they are getting older(as am I) and I know these will be my last cats. It’s very painful that my youngest two just turned 5 and my boy has Asthma and other issues. These guys are my everything. If you need more cats and stories I have tons of stories and pics. You can dm me on Facebook!😻
I had two Maine Coons, o..Litlbit..used to ride on my shoulders outside! Got lost for a week, I haunted my neighborhood, & suddenly she showed up,A prayer answered..she lived with us 8 years. My second one Sassee. Talked all the time we had regular chat sessions...very loving, she loved me only...she lived with me 20 years.I miss my sweet Maine Coons.. Now at my age of 91, I have a Torti! She is my comforter.
I rescued a Maine Coon 20 months ago, him living outside 24/7 for 3 years amongst coyotes and cars. My take on him following your points: 1. He sleeps thru the night, no sound, no movement, unusual for a cat! 2. Absolutely obsessed with food. When I'm cooking or eating, why not me? 3. Nope, he is the cleanest animal I've ever had. Meticulous cleaner. 4. Yep, he goes where he wants to, impervious to any 'correction'. 5. I call him a 'dogcat', as he behaves a lot like dogs I've trained. 6. He paws after eating like he's covering it with dirt, that's new to me. 7. Never seen that. 8. Yes, but only if I invite him. And at 20 lbs it's a load on your chest. Thanks for making the video!
I wasn't offended at all and didn't think you were complaining. I thought your description and the way you told us about them, it was hilarious 😂. Thank you!
I have 2 domestic tabbies I adopted because they looked a lot like a Maine Coons. After listening to this video, I've discovered my cats literally, 1-8 annoying things, do everything your Maine Coons do! The food obsession, waking me up, stepping on me, jumping up & knocking things off, following me around everywhere, the poo in the fur, etc. The one thing that wasn't mentioned is my cats habits when I'm on the toilet. I love my cats even though I haven't sat on the toilet for 11 years without having a cat on my lap! 🤣 Thanks for sharing!
The poo problem at my house was fixed with a hand held shower head in the bathroom. Many times I had to wash their bottom. My kitty liked to dig in the water bowl. Finally resorted to putting water in the bathtub filled about halfway back so he could jump in on dry land and Wade into the water, start digging and slinging water everywhere and then he dipped his paw in the water and lick the water off his paw. This was his favorite pastime and he taught all the other kitties to do the same. He was very social and liked having other kitties around. I had to install kid proof locks on my lower cabinets to keep him from opening doors. I loved my Maine Coon! He lived to be eleven years old and I still miss him.
Beautiful cats! I’m a light sleeper too. However, I can’t sleep unless I have a cat on the bed with me. Tiger and Josie fall asleep on the bed and are very quiet.
Our Maine Coon mix was adopted at 2 years old (he's now 8). The 4:30 am wake up calls because he would "converse" with the songbirds at dawn in the Spring was the biggest adjustment. He has a disdain for any human food but will sniff it when offered. His quirks fit us well. 🐈❤️
Kenny even though he wasn't purebred, slept with me from the time he could climb up on the bed (he was a rescued baby) and at the time he would sleep on my chest and I would have to place my hand over his face (or he would slide his face under my hand) and fall asleep that way. Since then he would sleep on my left side with his head on my pillow and he wouldn't stop wiggling until I draped my arm over him and covered his face. I called it 'hiding the kitty'. When I wasn't feeling good and when I had dental surgery he was right there on top of me trying to make me feel better. He was my shadow, my right hand man. He did like water and I could bathe him for the same reasons you mentioned (dirty bum) as long as I didn't get his feet wet. That was a challenge all by itself. Now with him in heaven, I would give anything to do it all over again.
Lol!! Yes, yes! I know exactly what you mean by all of that. My boy ‘pawed’ his hard food bits around the tiled & wooden floors like a footy pro. He not only followed me everywhere, yes into the toilet too, but he would sit on my head when I sat on the couch and then he’d slide down onto my neck and shoulders, and I’d have to walk around with him like a winter scarf or he’d growl if I tried to put him down. Also as soon as I was in bed he’d lay all over me and I’d be trapped. Argh - the poo!! In the end I regularly trimmed off all of his bum fur. And the meowing if I closed a door and he couldn’t see me or be near me, it was as if I was torturing him! I loved him dearly and was blessed to be so loved by him for 18 years. He was my 4-legged, furry, feline son. And I still miss him every day 4 years later...
My sweet girl Haley who is now with over the rainbow bridge was my most loved girl ever! She was my puppy cat that followed me everywhere and loved belly rubs and loved me unconditionally🙏🏻 I would give anything to have her back. She did not have any bad habits. Just enjoy every minute you are blessed with your cats.
I feel like most cats act the same. My cats loves to wake me up early in the morning. They also love to beg for food. They play with their food sometimes. And one cat when he was younger would climb on everything, the doorway, fridge, cabinets. And they also know how to open and close doors. Cats are very interesting creatures.
Bandit comes alive at bedtime. Sometimes if we stay up too late he will start meowing and starts walking to the bedroom. Then when we’re in bed he has a fuzzy blanket he kneeds it while daddy rubs his belly till they both fall asleep.
Omg Leo wouldn't dream of waking me. He'd pee on my comforter...while I'm under it asleep. If he woke me he couldn't lie down on my face and stick his paws in my mouth.
Got a MC rescue mix and can confirm even mixes have strong MC tendencies. Aaron does about everything mentioned in the video. He's also a dedicated digger, which means he will leave half of his litter outside his box after every time he uses it. Not to mention he loves carrying my old teddy bears that are the same size as him, flinching them playfully around. He is very food motivated and intelligent to a point all cabinets and drawers with non-cat friendly things now has child proof locks on them. He opens and closes doors for fun and throws a massive tantrum if the door gets stuck or he cant go through. He doesnt love water, at the same time he doesnt mind it either and will force-fit in the shower so long as someone is there, even with the water running. He also prefers balls, wooden sticks and chewing toys (for small dogs) over regular cat toys. I have never in my 30 y. experience ever had such a dog-like cat with a room-filling personality, constantly chatting with us if he isnt sitting by the window cussing' at the neighbour lmao.
my kitten unsure if hes a MC but i think he may be a mix as well but he like to get litter out of his box as well along with his poop too which can be annoying and he pretty smart. i like to teach my cats a few tricks and this kitten will learn it after a few treats with my other cats it took a few days, and when his litter box is dirty he will tell me. he also is very dog like and will steal any sticks he sees and loves to play fetch, might have to get him some small dog toys as well haha hes also very social and likes my other cats and tries playing with them and he loves looking out the window my other cats do as well but find it cute every time a cat looks out the window
My Nero is a tuxedo MC mix. I’ve had cats all my life, and his personality is definitely different! He is aloof, but follows us around the house on our daily activities. He can open the pantry door, and loves food! He will sit and sit up on command (most of the time) for a treat, just like a dog. He plays in water and loves the cold garage door. He loves hide and seek. He’s only a year old, but is extremely calm. He’s def not a lap cat, but when I don’t feel well, he won’t leave my side (I have a chronic pain disorder). He’s my King Floof.🥰
The yowling while you're sleeping, yes and yes. It doesn't have to be at night, any time you try to sleep, nap or close your eyes and they don't get attention. Glad I'm not alone in that. But, still the nicest pet I've ever been around.
Your babies are beautiful! My Maine Coon's name is Ziggy (as pictured) and he is 17 yrs old. His favorite game is to be chased. He has gone through most of these behaviors throughout his life except for the poo problem. He likes to be clean so if he has one stuck under his tail, he comes to me and cries so I know he has a problem and I'll help him clean up. He also wakes us in the night (most annoying trait) and he LOVES high places! For his first 10 years he would play in his water.... he would spill anything containing water, he would throw his weight against his water dispenser, knock over my bottled water or vases, and he quickly learned how to operate the electric eye facets in our bathrooms. I've had a lot of cats in my life, but Ziggy has been the most social and loving cat I've ever had. He loves people and acts more like a dog than a cat. Love the Maine Coon breed!
This was like going to Maine Coon Parent's therapy for my wife and I. We never knew that these were traits of the breed! You described our Maine Coon 100%. Thank you for making this. 😊
When my husband and I got married we adopted a Maine Coon, I was a dog person till then, she makes me a believer. When we have kids, she acted like they were his kitties and she even save my daughter. I agree with you about the food and the poop, my cat didn't like to be in high places she used to look for nooks and crannies to hide. We were blessed and she was with us for 20 years.
I have a Maine coon and she loves water. She’ll go outside in the rain come back soaked. To drink she’ll stick her paw in the water and lick her paw. Tried teaching her not to do that it’s worked most of the time. She loves to beg for food, will go after human food, tried stealing my chicken one day, took off my plate and ran with it. Super sweet cats. My Maine coon is struggling with having a kitten around that’s not hers. But they’ll get along eventually hopefully.
I’ve had many cats over the years all of them domestic shorthairs. They all did the things you talked about. It made me laugh. I think it must be a cat thing.
My MC does everything you mentioned except hiding his food. He loves playing in the sink. He steps in his water bowl before he drinks it. He will drink from the tap. He wakes me up every night either suckling on my face or laying on my head and biting it. Sometimes he will bite my feet instead. Sometimes he just sleeps on my head. He eats 7 or 8 times a day. He plays in his litter box. Sometimes he just lays in it. Thank goodness he's easy to bathe. He knocks everything off the tables and counter. He just sits there and knocks it off for no reason. He is the most precious kitty and keeps me laughing. He's 6 months old and everyday he does something that makes me love him more. I'm so lucky to have a Maine Coon.
I just got a 6 month old in Aug , and finding he is doing most of those things already in 1 week , loves the sink , bath tub and toilet water , sleeps on my neck and cry's a lot for more food , so glad we got him , his half brother arrives this week , we might get smothered by them both .lol.
My kitty never wakes me up. She’s respectful. She only sleeps with me sometimes (her choice, not mine,) but as soon as I wake up, she comes to me to say good morning! Then goes about her day. When she’s here in the house, she follows me around and talks to me. And she likes to cuddle in the evening while I watch TV. She’s perfect! ♥️♥️♥️♥️
I had a Siamese named Monkey. Something that always bothered me was loud noises and I struggled with patience. My Monkey tested me and made me have quite a lot more patience. It was terrible when he passed, and I miss hearing his loud Siamese yodeling. And so many of his "irritating" traits and habits. He was my best friend. We like friends for their good qualities, we love them for their flaws.
We got a cat 2 years ago from a rescue so nothing was known about his background. I’ve had cats before Max but his behavior was distinctly different from any others. I am now convinces he must be at least part Maine Coon. Hungry or not he demands food in his dish at all times, he wakes me by jumping on my dresser and knocking over anything he can find, paws a closed doors many of which he can open. He jumps from the floor into my arms without warning. The first time he did this I was standing in my living room talking to a neighbor when he jumped right at my arms expecting me to catch him. I learned to watch for this behavior that only happens when I am paying attention to someone else. I love him but the behavior is very unique ❤️
I have a Main Coon mix that is obsessed with food. My Tortie and stray that was given to me could care less. But Bruce my MC mix gets nuts when I eat. So I have to put him in the bathroom when I eat. He also follows me everywhere and won't leave me alone either Bruce plays in his water. Slings it everywhere before drinking it. He also lays all over me. Luckily he is not as heavy cuz he is mixed with a DSH. He is definitely a different cat. He is the absolute love of my life. I want a full blooded MC one day!!
I've actually taught them when it's bed time they go in "their room" , and they do ok until early morning, so I guess I'm blessed in that part, but my Turkish Van does the same as all the other things
I had a male Maine Coon cat that was so smart. He taught himself to pee in the toilet! He was beautiful too, he was 15 when he passed. Now I have one that is 3 years old, so he's still a big baby.
It's good that there are videos that talk about the annoying aspects of living with any animal. Too many people adopt animals while not understanding that there will be at least some problems and then decide they can't live with those problems. Cats are commonly described as being clean, but living with them can be messy. I don't think any of the annoying things in this video are specific to Maine Coones, but they're almost certainly common for the breed. My favorites are how social and needy for attention they are. I've heard a lot of people complain about cats being aloof, unfriendly, and anti-social. Honestly, those things are just a combination of owner and cat personalities and how well the person actually understands cats. If anything, cats as a species are differently social, not anti-social. They can require just as much love and attention as any dog. Also- regarding cats laying on you: The struggle is real. We are their personal heated beds. My cats give me love, companionship and entertainment, so I'm more than happy to make the trade off by putting up with the annoying parts of living with them.
Very informative - I just adopted a Main Coon from a lady who has cancer & I have experienced the "always starving" routine & I need more attention than you probably think. I think the dog chew toys are a good suggestion because my Main Coon wants to chew on everything. Fortunately he sleeps with me all night, but do not try & go back to bed after he has been fed. Thank you so much!
My Maine Coon - Kadjo, is guilty of most of your annoying habits. From poo on his behind and back paw(s) embedded with litter, to jumping on counters and being King Kat. He is notorious for splashing water outside of the water bowl and making a mess on the wood floor (we do have an extra large mat and he still manages to make a mess), to taking over the dog food bowl and chowing down on some dog kibble. Kadjo does sleep with us, or rather with me, and sprawls out lying against my leg so that I can’t move, or he comes over looking for some treat in the middle of the night. The worst is that he is so nosy about everything. Some will say he is highly curious…I say he is just plain nosy. He wants to know what I am eating, drinking, doing, pretty much all day. If it’s food, he’s determined to get at least a taste. Sigh. But I love my furry boy and I would not trade these experiences for anything. ❤️😻🥰
Do you use the royal canin kibble for Maine coons?? It’s pricey but good for their jaws. Kadjo sounds lovely. Would love to play fetch with him. Best game ever. Or throw the thing down the hallway and watch them do a run and slide.. with style mind you 😉😉😉
Enjoyed the video of these precious babies. My cat is not a Maine Coon, but exhibits every one of these behaviors, except the poo one, luckily, because he has a bushy tail. On a rare occasion, he may get a bit stuck on the hair back there. I've always thought most of these traits were "cat things", predstory/hunting instinct behavior traits, like putting the toys in the food/water dishes. I feel lucky to have one that can appear clingy at times, because it shows how much they love us. ❤
Our Maine Coon cat (RIP Gizmo) would help me whenever I was doing any computer repair. The moment I opened up a computer or a laptop, he was there IN the computer or right on top of the laptop. We called him my tech support cat.
Great video! I can attest to every single topic you hit. Nailed it! One of ours enjoys playing hockey with her dry food to chase and eat the kibble. It's a game to her. Cracks me up! I need to actually film it and put it online. I've never seen a cat nor any other animal do that. And another thing, the crossing of their paws when laying down. So funny! ♥️
Our Jeffrey Semi-Maine/Semi-Ragdoll mix is crazy for junk food and Milk. I don't give him milk because he's old but I do give him a few bites of my Cheeseburger sometimes. He is very clean though, he covers his litter carefully without dirtying his paws with poo. He's ultra cuddly and he comes to see us no matter where we are in the house but he knows what "No, Jeffrey sweet pea. Please no. I'm trying to sleep, baby." means unless it's about getting in the boiler room downstairs when I play on my Xbox One Series S. Good thing is when I start petting him he stops. :) Also he's SUPER dependent on us so we take care of him like a kitty. We love him sooo much!
Our kitten is part Maine Coon, but to be honest most of our cats do/have these things, although Cooper certainly does/has all these things. His favourite thing is stealing pens and walking around the house with them then throwing them around and quite often buries them in between our sofa cushions! I found 4 pens in there a couple weeks back!
Our Siamese loves pens and pencils. She loves it when you throw them and she fetches. She also loves to hide little things. We find things in our shoes and she loves to stuff things down a certain floor vent when things are small enough. I clean it out every so often and there are hair ties, bread ties, coins etc.
I absolutely appreciate this video! My husband and I are considering getting a Maine Coon. It's easy finding all the great traits but it's hard finding the negatives. It helps us become more informed & responsible pet owners.
Glad you appreciate it! I got a lot of beef for posting this video and videos similar to it, but I feel it’s important to share my experiences and be open and honest about it. I wish there was a video like this before we got our Maine Coons 😹❤️
@@lifewithmainecooncats Good for you. I agree this is important. I'm finally ready to adopt another kitty and of course would love one of these amazing cats. The poo thing + the counter thing is no bueno but I'm considering toilet training my next kitty so maybe that's a viable work around.
They do indeed fallow you everywhere. So be careful you don't turn around to quickly. You can trip over them. Some people can't handle all the attention they can give you. It's not the other way around. They're the ones giving you the attention.😉 It's true they will snuggle with you contently for hours on end. Summer time can be a little challenging when you want to keep cool.😊
They are very noisy and very curious about everything very dog like sometimes not the most graceful ours sometimes falls off his cat tree when playing very bright smart funny and in tune to what you’re feeling and needing you won’t be disappointed if you get one hands down I’d get a second one in a minute
Your Cats are beautiful, it sounds like the normal things one goes through when owning a Cat! I had a Maine Coon who was quite old when I got him... My sister gave him to me because he would get depressed when I would come to visit her & then leave, it was the weirdest thing, the Cat would latch onto me & never leave my side when I would visit, wherever I went he went... My sister couldn't deal with the poor Cats depression & begged me to take him in... It was the easiest decision I ever made... I've had a lot of Cats in my 62 years, he was the most memorable of all of the Cats I've ever had!
My Maine Coon does all of this. I love him dearly, but my goodness...I can't wash dishes or cook without him jumping on the counter... he'll jump in the fridge when I open it (sometimes I'll close him in there for a minute or 2 thinking he'll learn his lesson, HAHA YEAH RIGHT.) He will jump on me while I'm going to the bathroom every single time just to ask for water out of the sink. It's all annoying sometimes...but deep down I love it because it makes him, HIM ❤️
That was so funny, thanks for the laughs! One of our 3 cats is constantly stealing my office chair (I work from home so that tends to happen very often). It's not like there weren't any options. He could use the cat tree instead, or the 2 cat niches, or the 2-story cat house, or the 2 cat beds, or the basket on my desk, or the couch, or the comfy blankets in the bookcase, or any of the 6 other chairs in the house, but noooo, he wants MY.Freaking.Office.Chair! o_O
Mr. Tibbs, part Maine coon, has 100 different meows for every occasion. I talk to him, he answers back, so funny. He's very affectionate and sleeps on the pillow beside me every night. If I'm upset or if I cry he comes and stays beside me. I love this guy! He was found frozen to the road, weighed 4 pounds, most of his tail was amputated due to frost bite and the tips of his ears fell off because of frost bite. Inspite of all his hardship he is the most loving, sweet kitty boy and I am so grateful and lucky he is a part of my life.
Our Coonie is always with us , likes benches being up high , constantly finding toys in his food or water bowl and loves to eat his food with his paws 😹😹😹
Our mainecoon is more active at night. Also can’t do anything without her, she’s always around 😅 Dislikes: wakes us up at night, jumps everywhere, too active lol, very picky(she always want clean bowl and doesn't wanna eat left overs)- what we do is clean the bowl put the left over food and mix with new food Likes: she rarely meows only if she wants to play/ hungry, she let us know when she's full, she is very sociable, never scratch nor bite us, she let us know after she used her litter, sometimes understand boundaries
My new little girl Willow is doing ALL and EVERYTHING you said in the video!! She's very talkative....and when she plays, she makes these weird sounds it's scary but comical at the same time! We love her to pieces!!!😊❤😊
my girly lavender haze is the exact same way especially when she wakes me up in the morning its like she knows its breakfast time and don't get me started about the way she casually jumps to the top of my closet and knocks my clothes down 😂💜
Ours is waking us every night (morning) at 5am, asks for food and then demand to open door let him outside to the bedroom terrace (huge). After half an hour screaming to let him in and asks for food again. Only by 7am he finally goes to sleep again in his bed. But that’s the time for us to get up for work. It happens every night. Another super disturbing thing is he eats only (!!!) off hands, never dip his face into a bowl or any other surface no matter how hungry he is. We (me and my wife) do for him whatever he wants and crazy love him
OK, you made me laugh several times. We have our first Maine Coon, Mickey Moose, who is now 7 months old. We got him at 8 weeks. He does many of these things also, which is why I laugh at your annoyances. Yes! It’s annoying and adorable at the same time. He follows me everywhere and I too lock myself in my office now and then. If we sit down to watch TV, he plops right down on my chest. It was cute at 2 lbs. Now that he’s pushing 10 lbs, not so much. Yes, he plays in his water bowl, hockey with his dry food, and claims he’s starving. But I wouldn’t trade him for the world.
Feeding: I know how that is. Whenever someone was in the kitchen and hits the can opener, it was electric, little heads would poke out of cabinets, no matter where they were, and come to investigate what's going on in the kitchen.
Well actually it’s very honest and informative video 🙏🙏🙏 you are letting people to think twice before they decide to take a responsibility of an animal 🌹🌹🌹 thank uuuu very much 🌹🌹🌹
I miss my MC sooo much. As an adult cat, and after I retired, he was so much company. Loved to be by me whether sitting on my stomach or chest or sitting nearby in garden watching every move I made..I don’t think adult cats wake you so much at nights and I I never had problems with begging for food. A real chilled cat breed and friendly.
Thank you for this video. Our cat is part Maine and he does exactly what yours does. He lays on us in the middle of the night, wakes my husband every night to feed him, follows him everywhere. He sits on the side of the tub while my husband is in the shower. I should say my husband spoils him rotten. He's not as needy around me during the day, but he does like to sleep against me or he will climb on my back. I'm a tummy sleeper. While it's a royal pain in the neck, I just let him sleep there, a twenty pound weight, but I've gotten used to it. It's nice to know we aren't alone in this insanity. By the way, he is pure white with one gold eye and one blue eye. He's extremely friendly. The vet tells us he is such a good cat when we take him in for shots. His name is Mew.
My cat does so many of the same things!! She is part Maine coon but looks full blooded. She love to follow me around and we talk back and forth, it’s so cute. I have everything in common except the poo 💩 problem (thank goodness). Loved your video, so nice to know I’m not the only one!! 🐾🐾❤️
I love that you took the time to make sure that ppl WILL UNDERSTAND EXACTLY WHAT'S INVOLVED with These Beautiful Babies. Mine is ALWAYS stuck to my hip. He cries if he can't see me. Thanks so much and God bless
I absolutely adored our Maine Coon , we had him for 17 years. I can’t tell you how much I miss him. He was such a chill cat until it was time to eat lol.
The Maine Coon my dad and stepmom had was amazing! I miss him to this day, one mildly annoying thing was he CONSTANTLY hung out by the main entry door "asking" to open the door (they live in the country on a hobby farm) to be let out and do his thing. He'd sit there and look at you (meaaooow) lol. I'd almost give anything to have him sit there and ask me to open the door again :( also whenever I napped on the couch being half asleep you could feel his vibration when he snuggled to you
Flash… most cats do all these things… Maine Coon or not. I have three cats - two calico and one orange and white. They play with their food, play in their water, wake me up at night, follow me everywhere, jump up on the counter… all of it! A cat’s gonna cat!
I'd recommend a slow eating bowl or a ball that has tiny holes that you place treats in, the slower an animal eats the better, it fills them longer, and they do enjoy the challenge as well.
My Maine coon does these things too. He is very very very food obsessed and I have never given him people food but he never stops trying and he is obsessed about going on the counters!
I actually named my cat shadow because he wouldn't get more than 12 inches from me for the first few years. Now that he has other cat companions he's no so clingy
I had a 27 lb Maine Coone and he was the coolest and most talkative cat. Miss him terribly, but I still have deep scratches in my cabinets from him getting on the very top.
Lacey is always opening the cabinets too! When I can’t find her I have to check the cabinets . I am a cracking up. My cat loves the dishwasher, the fridge and the toilet and she follows me everywhere. She also hates closed doors. I love her so much
Something that might help with them getting on the counters, like a shelf and cat tree system that runs high up along the walls maybe in a couple of rooms just to maybe help keep them off the counters
I've had my maine coon mix kitten for 3 weeks 1. She wakes my at night 2. She begs for my food! All the time! (the first few days I thought I didn't feed her enough) 3. She ALWAYS jumps on my desk! Always. 4. She follows my everywhere I go and even waits at the gate when I leave the house- I love it (even if it makes me sad when she cries when I close the door) maine coons do suffer from separation anxiety, that's their nature😊 5. Luckily she haven't gotten poo on herself and she is really well trained with her food: when I go to dish dry food she waits patiently by the bowl 6. She just plays with shoelaces and my pen and haven't found any in her bowl - thank goodness 7. My baby is not that loveable.. She just lays against my back at night or by my legs just like any other cat 🥰 Just thought I'd share my experience as maines are an adventure to have! I've wanted one for years and I'm so happy to finally have one!
I have 2 MC mixes that were rescues 1 does almost all those annoying things she mentions the other only wants attention at bedtime or first thing in the mornings. Won't part with either one of them.
I had a Maine Coon for 17 years. He was huge and very smart. Instead of meowing to be let out he would scratch mine or my parents bedroom door and then we let him out and he would then scratch the front door to be let in. We moved quite a lot one year but he adapted very well. The new house had a screen door and if we let him out before bed half the time we would wake up to him slamming the screen door. But he was also very protective. My Dad couldn't yell or get mad at my younger siblings because Jolie would attack him if he did. He was a 25 lbs cat and liked using his weight.
Hun, Ur A TRU GUARDIAN OF THE ANIMAL KINGDOM, Luuuuv ya just for that 💞🙏🏾🕊️👍🏾, Soooo many fink they are but Clearly Are Not, 😞😐😢😣🤪😕😬
I love my main coon he is still young
Those are wonderful ideas!
I also made like this))
Mines my foot warmer whenever I sleep 😴 oh and he’s an early riser 🤪🤪 I don’t think they understand the concept of night and day, they are just happy to be with you.
Can you post pictures
That is cool that you made a room for your fury kid!Ive got a spare room full of stuff i need to organize.Id like to do the same as you did for my furballs.Give the baby some lovin for me!
I had a Maine Coon for 16 years. He was smart as a whip, dog-like, affectionate, oily and constantly ate odd things. I loved him dearly and want another cat just like him.
I hope you get one. God Bless you.
Alternate title: "Main Cons of Maine Coons"
The most annoying thing about Maine Coon cats is the fact that they're so darn cute.
True.
Our Main Coon died two days ago, at the amazing age of 19 and seeing this vid reminded me so much of her. Especially the part about them not wanting to be alone. Great vid.
So sorry 😿
My main coon baby we had to put down 2 days ago he 18 was such a wonderful cat i miss him already.
You and yours have my deepest sympathies.
So sorry for your loss!!
You did great keeping him that long , luck plays about 50 percent the other 50 you .
My 2 maine coons are bigger than 18 lbs lol. Males are even bigger. They are heavy on my legs when cuddling but I wouldn't change it for nothing.
I have 4 cats Al related the owners before me treated the mum as a breeding machine not as a cat the owners only gave cats and kittens ham
My cats are my world
16 years? That's a long life great job, you remember what you food brand and type you fed her by chance?
A lot of those little pet-peeves are pretty typical of any cat. But Maine Coon's are very clingy by nature, and no cat likes a closed door. EVER.
True! They HATE closed doors.
And that's with ANY cat...not just Coonies.
I love Maine Coons - they are the best - my brother adopted a neighborhood kitty and Baby was just like a baby - he was the gentlest kitty. Why do people adopt a certain breed if they are not interested in the cats nature?
I call mine “Looney Coons” 😹
@@eternal3ntity230 brilliant and apt
I adopted my main coon 3 weeks ago from a shelter and have experienced most of these things. But he is by far the sweetest cat I have ever met. I love him so much, I wouldn’t trade him for anything. He is bonded to a little tuxedo we took home too. They bring such joy to our home.
Mine bonded to our older cat too!
My take on him following your points:
My MC is like yours meticulously clean! Obsessively so. He’s come to love our brush time. Some days he insists on brushing for hours!
Mine is also very clean but likes to throw the litter everywhere but not on himself.
@@TheGamingEevee8 I bought a tall plastic tote a d cut a entry into it and with the taller sides it immensely help with the litter going everywhere.
I wasn't offended at all and didn't think you were complaining. I thought your description and the way you told us about them, it was hilarious 😂. Thank you!
Glad to hear that! 😹
I had a Norwegian Forest Cat which is basically the same thing as a Main Coon. Had the same Poo problem. Broke my heart when she passed.
Beautiful cats! I’m a light sleeper too. However, I can’t sleep unless I have a cat on the bed with me. Tiger and Josie fall asleep on the bed and are very quiet.
I have plenty of kitty cuddles for bed time. Most of the time I have about a dozen on or near the bed. I love the purrs to go to sleep by.
My insulin pump wakes me up when I'm trying to sleep every 15 minutes to make me drink something. At least a cat only wants love.
My MC tries to bite my insulin pump tube! Yay for a T1D and Maine Coon person!
He sounds amazing. I'm glad you found each other if only for a while. X
Lol!!
Sorry for your loss 😿
Same here
My Maine Coon acts like he is starving 24/7, begs for food, and gets poo stuck to his butt and tail. He is 12
Those tails deserve their own names
Feather dusters
My MC can open drawers and cabinets too. He also loves balls and plays fletch
OMG! Tigey used to get a pair of my undies out of the hamper and bring them...in his teeth... into the middle of all/any of my social hosting!
Cussing at the neighbors.😂😂😂
The yowling while you're sleeping, yes and yes. It doesn't have to be at night, any time you try to sleep, nap or close your eyes and they don't get attention. Glad I'm not alone in that. But, still the nicest pet I've ever been around.
Had one dropped off on my door step, He's always hungry and the loudest cat I've ever heard and follows me every where
Your babies are beautiful!
They are unique to other breeds, and mimic canine behaviors .
This was like going to Maine Coon Parent's therapy for my wife and I. We never knew that these were traits of the breed! You described our Maine Coon 100%. Thank you for making this. 😊
You’re welcome!
That is because they are not this is just normal cat behavior. Have cats for 29 years now they all do this
The cat be like you never feed me. Even though you give them a perfectly good bowl of food
Lol Same here!
yes, but my other cats weighed 6-10# while my Maine Coons weight 15-19#!
@@fritterfoof5146 I've since got a female Maine Coon. She is one month younger than Odie. She is just like him. 😂😂😂😂
My mother’s Maine Coon cross was named Snoopy, because he followed her everywhere to see what she was doing all the waking hours!
Rule #1 with cats: NO CLOSED DOORS...
"Beg like we never feed them" looks sideways at my sweet Jazzy "hmpf...sounds like someone i know..." as she purrs along
Our Maine coon was amazing, we were lucky to have her for 20.5years. The thing that drove me crazy was the meowing, constantly!
We had to bungee cord our cabinets shut so the cats wouldn't keep getting in there lol
I have a older Siamese on my lap as I watched the video, purring away. And I have several others that like to sleep on me in bed.
Or throw the thing down the hallway and watch them do a run and slide.. with style mind you 😉😉😉
I finally had to move water bowls into the tub, as I have several that must make the water move before they will drink.
Sounds like every cat I've ever owned... not just the maine coons
What a precious kitten. I love Maine Coon Cats. They are a breed above the rest.
So funny! ♥️
My Mc wants to stand or sit in front of whatever screen I may be watching. Also sit on top of books. I love her massively.
Also he's SUPER dependent on us so we take care of him like a kitty. We love him sooo much!
I have a RagCoon too! She is soooo demanding
That's hilarious!!! Love it!
Hair,Hair,Hair!!! I 💕 my MC, but the amount of hair is astoundingly copious amount. Brush when young and train them to love these cuddle bugs.
They do indeed fallow you everywhere. So be careful you don't turn around to quickly. You can trip over them.
Some people can't handle all the attention they can give you. It's not the other way around. They're the ones giving you the attention.😉
It's true they will snuggle with you contently for hours on end.
It's all annoying sometimes...but deep down I love it because it makes him, HIM ❤️
One day any complaints will turn into fond memories .
That was so funny, thanks for the laughs! One of our 3 cats is constantly stealing my office chair (I work from home so that tends to happen very often). It's not like there weren't any options. He could use the cat tree instead, or the 2 cat niches, or the 2-story cat house, or the 2 cat beds, or the basket on my desk, or the couch, or the comfy blankets in the bookcase, or any of the 6 other chairs in the house, but noooo, he wants MY.Freaking.Office.Chair! o_O
you warmed it up so nicely for the cat ;0)
We know exactly why he wants YOUR office chair! Lol!
Lol my cats steals my office chair Too
it's called on your feet, lose your seat lol🐈⬛☺️
The chair also smells like you. One of your scent areas is on the chair so, it gets there for comfort
Our boy, Moses, liked to sleep under the covers as the little spoon with his head on my pillow. He was the best cat ever. Lived to age 17.
Our Coonie is always with us , likes benches being up high , constantly finding toys in his food or water bowl and loves to eat his food with his paws 😹😹😹
Cats don't sleep deeply or for long periods. When they wake you up, they're checking to see if their human is still alive.
Our mainecoon is more active at night. Also can’t do anything without her, she’s always around 😅
Dislikes: wakes us up at night, jumps everywhere, too active lol, very picky(she always want clean bowl and doesn't wanna eat left overs)- what we do is clean the bowl put the left over food and mix with new food
Likes: she rarely meows only if she wants to play/ hungry, she let us know when she's full, she is very sociable, never scratch nor bite us, she let us know after she used her litter, sometimes understand boundaries
My new little girl Willow is doing ALL and EVERYTHING you said in the video!! She's very talkative....and when she plays, she makes these weird sounds it's scary but comical at the same time! We love her to pieces!!!😊❤😊
my girly lavender haze is the exact same way especially when she wakes me up in the morning its like she knows its breakfast time and don't get me started about the way she casually jumps to the top of my closet and knocks my clothes down 😂💜
Thanks for making the video.
They are “The dogs of the Cat World” after all. 😉
As are my Siamese!😂
Ours is waking us every night (morning) at 5am, asks for food and then demand to open door let him outside to the bedroom terrace (huge). After half an hour screaming to let him in and asks for food again. Only by 7am he finally goes to sleep again in his bed. But that’s the time for us to get up for work.
It happens every night.
Another super disturbing thing is he eats only (!!!) off hands, never dip his face into a bowl or any other surface no matter how hungry he is.
We (me and my wife) do for him whatever he wants and crazy love him
1:09 I'm just here for Molly's sweet little meows in the background ❤️
Hahaha
We just got our first purebred , the first thing I said to him was , where have you been my entire life.
My coon is absolutely obsessed with food.
Special breed of cats. These cats are so smart. They love their people. They talk and they are so charming.
Feeding: I know how that is. Whenever someone was in the kitchen and hits the can opener, it was electric, little heads would poke out of cabinets, no matter where they were, and come to investigate what's going on in the kitchen.
Well actually it’s very honest and informative video 🙏🙏🙏 you are letting people to think twice before they decide to take a responsibility of an animal 🌹🌹🌹 thank uuuu very much 🌹🌹🌹
Maine Coon: “WE’RE SARVING! We’re DYING! FEED US!”
He sounds like my idea of heaven!
My cat does so many of the same things!! She is part Maine coon but looks full blooded. She love to follow me around and we talk back and forth, it’s so cute. I have everything in common except the poo 💩 problem (thank goodness). Loved your video, so nice to know I’m not the only one!! 🐾🐾❤️
I love that you took the time to make sure that ppl WILL UNDERSTAND EXACTLY
WHAT'S INVOLVED with These Beautiful Babies.
Omg, I thought that the food thing was just our cat.
😹
I'd recommend a slow eating bowl or a ball that has tiny holes that you place treats in, the slower an animal eats the better, it fills them longer, and they do enjoy the challenge as well.
My Maine coon does these things too. He is very very very food obsessed and I have never given him people food but he never stops trying and he is obsessed about going on the counters!
I actually named my cat shadow because he wouldn't get more than 12 inches from me for the first few years. Now that he has other cat companions he's no so clingy
I was way to distracted on how cute your cats are
I had a 27 lb Maine Coone and he was the coolest and most talkative cat. Miss him terribly, but I still have deep scratches in my cabinets from him getting on the very top.
OMG....you described my two MC to a "T"... LOL.
I have a kitten that looks like these cats. He just showed up meowing his head off outside my window in the dark. He is so much fun!
I've had my maine coon mix kitten for 3 weeks
1. She wakes my at night
2. She begs for my food! All the time! (the first few days I thought I didn't feed her enough)
3. She ALWAYS jumps on my desk! Always.
4. She follows my everywhere I go and even waits at the gate when I leave the house- I love it (even if it makes me sad when she cries when I close the door) maine coons do suffer from separation anxiety, that's their nature😊
5. Luckily she haven't gotten poo on herself and she is really well trained with her food: when I go to dish dry food she waits patiently by the bowl
6. She just plays with shoelaces and my pen and haven't found any in her bowl - thank goodness
7. My baby is not that loveable.. She just lays against my back at night or by my legs just like any other cat 🥰
Just thought I'd share my experience as maines are an adventure to have! I've wanted one for years and I'm so happy to finally have one!
Having a cat is basically like having a toddler, I’m so glad my cat isn’t super annoying.
Waking you up in the middle of the night, begging for food, almost sounds like you have a dog.
They are so unbelievably pretty. Some of the kitten footage particularly had my heart melting.
