The unexpected cry from Austin depicts the type of music you might hear from the area where Jesus was born. I love the syncopated parts and the kind of chaotic chords you get oftentimes. The ending was so awesome with the beautiful harmony. I enjoyed the looks on your face, and especially when you could hardly catch your breath when the song was so busy. I listen to Home Free everyday. This song is a favorite song of mine and their version is the best. I listen to it the whole year round. Loveddddddddd your reactions and analysis to this one.
If you want to hear more Chris, he's featured as a soloist in Feelin It, even if only for a bit. Best to check out during the summer though!

You should check out some of Chris Rupp's solo work or 7th Avenue or...the other group he's in, the name of which is just escaping me, right now. He has a wide range (like all of these guys) and can do bass up to tenor.

Going to see them again live in Nashville at the Ryman Friday! Cant wait! Homefee is amazing all of them. From Austins highs to Tims lows! To Robs sweet tenor voice to Adam Rupps amazing beatboxing. And lets not forget the versatile Adam chance who can sing in the tenor range when needed or take over for Tim on the low notes. They are an amazing group and if you get the chance to see them live do it!

Please please please react to 'Wonder As I Wander - Epic Version' by Simon Khorolskiy. Its an underappreciated Christmas song and he really does make it epic.
I admit it! I knew this one was going to be a pause fest! There's just so many yummy things to pick apart. I still love seeing people react to this one because of its complexity! But it retains such beauty even with so much happening. It never comes across muddied with so many moving parts! I'm so glad you did this one! ❤
Adam Rupp's original introduction to this song got thoughtlessly deleted to be replaced by the standard tour date boilerplate. I managed to recover the introduction, which I believe gives some great insight to his thoughts on making this arrangement:
On the surface, this arrangement of "Do You Hear What I Hear?" sparks the imagination with different musical themes, and brings life to several different scenes or imagery about the birth of Christ. However, a deeper understanding of the song reveals a call for peace in a chaotic violent world under the simple truth preached by Christ: love. Originally written during the Cuban missile crisis, a parallel can be drawn to any time when the world needs a reminder to love not hate. The theme of competing voices is echoed in the execution of the 4 different vocal parts that come to clarity at the 4th verse and unify with the same message in 5 octaves: "Listen to what I say. Pray for peace, people everywhere."

Jenn, I've watched this one a few times... and I always feel for you around the 19:00 minute mark. You're doing "vocal coach Cirque du Soleil" keeping up with what Tim and Austin are doing at the same time! 😳😉 Those boys are going to give you whiplash if you're not careful! 😉
This is supposed to be a song where Christian’s are CELEBRATING Jesus’s birth? This song feels more like a true CELEBRATION compared to the Traditional (Fuddy Duddy) version!
Fuddy duddy ? It's was written before everything was turned into rock. The original writer of this song wrote as a Christian Hymn honoring the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It was not meant to be a song that you can get up and dance to.

Jen - never complain about stopping so much - even though I've seen this video dozens of times, it's your amazing critique that allows me to hear so much of the intricacies of their harmonies that my ears just can't pick up all the "yumminess" the first few time I hear the song.... They put so much thought and preparation into each of their songs it blows my mind and never ceases to amaze me. You my friend bring that out and to boot, you're so funny and cute it makes watching your channel so much fun - no matter how many times you stop...
You are by far, my favorite reactor of this group - I've seen them in concert twice and will see them again in March 2023 in Atlanta. I also am highly impressed with your musical videos as well and I concur, they should take you along on one of their tours and you'd fit right in with their craziness...A UK tour with Home Free and Jen G - I would definitely take a flight across the pond to see that!!

I LOVE this version soooo much! Add to it their version of “Go Tell It On The Mountain” w/Texas Hill, “Cold Hard Cash”, “Hairy Christmas”, “Full Of Cheer”, “Christmas In Dixie”, “Mary Did You Know”, “What Christmas Means To Me”, “Christmas Medley”, “O Holy Night”, & even “Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer”, (& pretty much any other Christmas song Home Free does!), & I’m set!!!! ALL of their songs & arrangements are just incredible! I love them all. I can’t wait to see them again in April-front row seat w/a UVIP ticket!!! I probably shouldn’t have spent the money, but I couldn’t help it!!! The last time was so incredible & just tons of fun. Great review, Jennifer! You should hit Austin and/or Tim up for an interview to put on here! They do a lot of stuff to promote other artists, too, so maybe you could join them for a song or two? Keep the faith! He doesn't do many arrangements because these he does do it are spectacular, and the others in the group dread recording them because they are difficult *because* they are spectacular. The results speak for themselves. This is far and away my favorite Home Free production; the music itself and the setting are next level amazing.

Live this is stunning! My favorite version, always come back to this, always. Adam Rupp did a fantastic job arranging this.
This is *such* a satisfying composition.
Super atmospheric intro, the 4 octaves in 4 seconds round is such a fun flex, Tim's bass work is great (as always), Austin busts out an amazingly accurate quacky Strat-NO-caster funk guitar line (crazy!), & that Stevie Wonder -esque key twist 3/4 in is #ChefsKiss!! So much to keep the ear entertained. Adam deserves some kind of award for creating an arrangement this special from a much less interesting original. :)
I've got to say that I get so tickled at you with your crazy antics and beautiful smile and your constant apologies for doing what you do with all the stopping...but I absolutely love it. I'm just short of 70 years old and I've been a mediocre music nerd most of my life. And though I've listened to this many times over the last few years, YOU always seem to bring out things that I've missed, so...Thank you , young lady. I hope you get your chance to sing with these guys. Please keep doing what you do...your way. You, and Home Free, make my heart sing!

Love, love, love it! It’s so creative and Adam arranged it. They often don’t let him arrange too many songs as they say they’re too complicated. I can’t believe Tim’s notes didn’t collapse the ice castle. Really cool version filmed in a really cool place. The ice castle was in Minnesota in the freezing cold. Just so much fun. One of my favorites. Try Angels We Have Heard on High, Silent Night, What Child is This and Auld Lang Syne for New Years.

For me one of the best arranged songs, or perhaps the best, of Home Free. So impressive! The so great harmonies, the sound effects, colors, etc. in such a beautiful but cold environment. When I saw and heard this for the first time, I did repeat it a few times. Just amazing.

This is my ALL TIME FAVOURITE Home Free song, and all time favourite arrangement of this song. And your analysis has been the best I’ve seen so far!! My favorite arrangement of any Christmas song, ever. I was lucky enough to see them do this live last night. Just as fabulous in person. One comment about the bass. Chris Rupp says that when he was in the group and they did this live, he would do the bass line when Tim had the melody, but in the studio recording, they doubletracked Tim because he had a fuller low range. In any event, it's amazing and fabulous. Outstanding vocal percussion from Adam, as usual.
Jen, no one analyzes songs better than you. Love this arrangement by Adam Rupp!! Never was my favorite Christmas song, but this arrangement makes it one of my favorites! Happy Christmas as you Brits say and have a wonderful New Year!

To hear more of Chris Rupp, you should react to Children Go Where I Send Thee with Kenny Rogers. Home Free sang this with Kenny soon after they won The Sing Off. They all have a lead except for Adam who is doing the beat boxing. Austin is also sharing with some of the beat boxing.. Kenny of course sounds great. He also is able to blend with Home Free effortlessly when others take the lead. It's an African American spiritual which is a Christmas song. It showcases everyone's talent.
You should listen to Angels We Have Heard On High, one their best and overlooked. It well drive you crazy listening to the harmonies and changes.

12/15/22 concert Austin was sick so when the four of them did the 4 octaves in 4 seconds Tim started at his low notes then Chance, Rob and Tim used his highest falsetto to hit Austin's note!

adam Rupps arrangement was so killer
The sweetest answer to your question about why Austin looks so warm would be 'his naturally warm heart'. I suspect the real answer is that woolly scarf and thermal underwear. What Tim is doing without a scarf, God alone knows. Makes me feel cold just to look at him.
It's no wonder Tim complains about Minnesota winters if that's how he dressed for them. Not only no scarf, but not a proper coat either.
I think Austin had his mouth covered because he was doing the "electronic" tones in the background during a cpl sections - if I remember correctly. I cd be wrong - someone correct me if so :)

Fun fact. They filmed this is New Brighton Minnesota at the ice castle there. It was -13f(-25c) when they filmed it. So it was actually as cold as it looks.
