  • What's the most important offshore fishing lure you MUST know how to make? Most anglers would say The Sea Witch, and this video, Capt. Ron Edwards shows how to custom-make a Sea Witch, with a step by step process explaining the different materials you'll need, the brands he prefers, and the techniques he's mastered over the years.

I always love rigging. That was very informative. What's your recommendation for leader length / test, and hooks?

Good job guys. One of my favorite things to do is tying up rigs!

Good video! I think it is very informative for rigging a sea witch.
One thing that you say several times in the beginning of your video is that this is a “bait” which is not really correct. This is actually a “rig” and does not really qualify as a bait until either a ballyhoo or other strip of bait is attached to the hook and chin weight if used. A very good alternative to using a bally is to use a strip of belly from a false albacore (I have even used chicken mahi belly strips in a pinch) that is cut from just behind the anal fin of the fish. It holds up extremely well to billfish strikes and even wahoo were a bally is usually destroyed on 1st strike. The colors of the rigs I use and have found over the years some days certain colors work better then others. Cloudy of overcast days can require different colors then bright sunny days. Sea conditions also can change color and chin weight used to attract fish. I also will use or add a few strands of crystal flash or other shiny hair added to the rig can attract fish on sunny days. Will used a few drops of supper glue also on the threads tied to the skirts to finish off the rigging thread. Have even used clear hard nail polish to just put a little extra coating on the thread.
These rigs as you have shown are probably the most productive rigs to attract almost every species of fish all over the world. I have seen and used them from NY to Florida, Mexico, Bermuda, Puerto Rico and even in Lake Ontario (very small heads).
Thanks for showing this rig system!

Any tackle shop that has offshore fishing gear should have it. And I’m sure it can be ordered online.
