    Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit th-cam.com/users/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good....however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook.

    Super job Heath. Your crimp technique is spot on. Time permitting, I like to use crimps on line over 60lb. Super clean and strong. Your tip about making the loop at the lure as small as possible was great too. Those are the tips that help all anglers catch more fish and have a better overall experience. Thanks. Jay

      Hi Jay, Thanks a boat load for watching and always being here to support the channel. I truly and sincerely appreciate it and can't thank you enough. I totally agree with you on the pound test line to start crimping... 60... with 40 and under I'll use any topical knot, at 50 I only go with a double clinch... after that it's crimps. When I use a crimp and send it through a lure, like an Ilander I'll use chafe tubing to prevent what is called a crotch break. Metal on metal friction produces heat that compromises mono easily. Thanks again for everything. Tight lines & take care ;)

      Hi Mickey, thanks for watching, always being here and showing some love for my family. I sincerely appreciate it. Yes sir, I am fairly picky when it comes to my lure selection. As humans, we inherently tend to eat with our eyes first, if it looks good, it'll probably taste good. I think the same way with fish. I believe the best possible presentation will get the fish to bite. Everyone says "Hi" and Avi gives you a thumbs up. Weather is acting funny this week. Me and Avi got caught in a storm yesterday. Hopefully we'll get out next week and start putting some meat back on the deck. Thanks again for everything. Hope all is well with you and your family. See you Sunday. Take care :)

      Hi Heath, A big "Thumbs Up" to Avi. Glad you're all well. I went to the gun range on Wednesday and did OK. I haven't been shooting in at least three years, so I was a bit out of practice. The gun laws in MO are more relaxed than NJ. I fished in the pond next to the house on Thurs. The small Bass just seem to be biting at the tail of the plastic worm. I think they are still in the spawning mode. Take care and I'll "See" you on Sunday, Mickey

    Those are great lures. I sadly lost one this morning in about 140’ of water trolling about 10 knots. I had allot of heat on the drag to prevent line creep but I was going for the Wahoo bite.
    I use 30 wide Tiagras with 65 lb braid to a 50’ length of 100lb mono followed by a 6’ length crimp on 250lb leader with barrel swivels only keeping it streamline. Unfortunately I lost a nice fish this morning. The Lure a was a 200 size.. was a nice morning none the less!

    Thank You surprised you do not incorporate chaff gear on your loops up here in NE that limits you to one catch and then you have to rerig the leader for they tend to fray at the split rings and snap swivels

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks a million for watching and always being here. I truly appreciate it and can't thank you enough. So, you are correct about crimps and mono, you have to consistently monitor the loop to prevent a crotch break. However, chafe tubing is not always necessary. I use chafe tubing when sending the crimp through a lure, like an Ilander, turbo slammer or jet head. That metal on metal friction produces heat that compromises the mono on the loop and causes the crotch breaks. On a lure like this one the connection is out in the open, so I feel comfortable that the tubing is not required. But, yes, crimped connections are strong and quick to assemble, but can fail just as easily if not done properly and maintained. Thanks again for everything. Tight lines && take care ;)

    • @milesabove5259
      @milesabove5259 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The extra eye is to rig an assist hook with dyneema cord on the most forward point and then use the second loop behind it to tie the hook to with a cable tie. This is to keep the hook oriented and keep the lure swimming true at high speeds.

  • @chineseeyedgrowr9182

    Heath, thanx again as always great video. What do you think about a short piece of wire with a haywire twist to the split ring on the deep diver and a haywire loop at the rod end to connect to the swivel? Or do you think that would affect the way it swims, cuz I know you mentioned on the 150# at the lure end to make the loop small?

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a boat load for watching and asking a great question. You can definitely use wire leader tied on by a haywire twist without any issue. You'll want to try to get the loop as small as you can, but it's not the end of the world if you don't. The smaller the connecting loop, the deeper it will dive. I use 270 lb cable when I go high speed trolling for wahoo. All works the same. The lure has a powerful diving lip, and the construction of the lure makes it ultra tough. Hope this helps. You know I love the channel Heath! I recently saw the vid about tying (alberto) knot, mono to wire... in my area anything is likely to eat a dtx but most likely targeting wahoo or kings. What do you think about 10' on mono or floro tied a short trace of wire using the method described in the video I mentioned. I hate a long piece of wire, as I feel it hurts your odds of getting bit in the first place. Have you ever tried alberto tied to cable or 7 strand? Will it work the same way?

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. Yes, you can use a short wire on the DTX and tie it directly to your leader. Using cable won't work for that application, it's too thick. You can use knotable wire if you want to also. If you're in the area where there are toothy critters, it's smart to use some wire... the DTX isn't cheap. Hope this helps. Thanks again for your support of the channel, I truly appreciate it. • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks a million for watching sharing and asking a great question. I have not had to tune these lures or had any problems with them acting funny when trolling with them. Aluminum sleeves have worked the same for me as these sleeves that I've used haven't had any crotch breaks or any mythical problems like that. I believe line failure is partially due to incorrectly rigging it. I don't use Chafe gear or anything like that either. I've heard the Bonita's can be problematic but I have not ran into it yet. The most common problem is the hooks getting hung up on the underbelly of it when you get up and rolling. If you're having a problem with it you can either write the manufacturer or take it back to where you bought it from and see what they can do for you. Hope all this helps. Thanks again for taking out time to stop by and chat with me I truly and sincerely appreciate it. Tight lines & take care ;)

    Hi Heath. Just to clarify, when you say connecting the crimped loop to the swivel you're actually referring to attaching with a snap that is attached to a swivel? It sounded like you were saying the loop had to be big enough to attach to the swivel with the loop only but then it seems it would be better to make the swivel a permanent part of the rig and tie your mainline directly to the swivel. Personally, I'm not a fan of snaps because while convient it's just another weak link between me and the fish. That said I recently bought some Hawaiian snaps for big popping and stick baits but haven't had a chance to figure out if I like them or not.
    So, I guess the question is are you using a snap to connect the crimped loop to the swivel or are you attaching the swivel to the crimped loop then tying on the swivel to mainline? And if using snaps, what type of snaps do you recommend for 150-300 lbs class tackle?

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a boat load for watching and always being here. I sincerely appreciate your support for the channel. Yes I am referencing a snap swivel, with a coast lock. Yes, I agree, all connecting points are weak links. I find ball bearing swivels with coast locks to be pretty reliable. For big game fish like marlin and wahoo, I use a 300 lb test swivel. For small stuff like mahi, tuna and kingfish i'll use a size 7 from Mustad. Also, for high speed trolling and planer fishing connections i'll use the 300 lb swivels... the wire they are made from is pretty tough. Hope this helps answer your question. Can't thank you enough for everything. Tight lines & take care ;)

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Top shot is for shock absorbency when the fish strikes. The top shot (aka shock cord) stretches and retracts to help set the hook. If you only use a short leader connected to the lure, you yank the hook out of the fishes mouth... If your 200 lb leader is 25 feet or longer you should be ok with that. Hope this helps

It takes patience, practice and a good bit of being the right place at the right time. Don't give up on the yo-zuri bonito they really do work. As for this lure, the Nomad DTX 220 LRS, it also gets the job done, has great swimming action and dives deep, also is a resilient lure that can handle being bitten into. Definitely works for kingfish, wahoo, marlin and big tuna. But again, it takes time to learn the fishery and how & when to use this lure. You need to let out at least 200 ft... if you use braid mainline with 25 foot leader of 150 lb mono lure trolls best. Unfortunately weeds are all a part of it, once they get caught on your line they ride down to the swivel, or even worse the lure. A little trick to help avoid weeds is pick up your speed... just make sure you have good connections or you lose your $50 lure

    Can I use a penn 7500 for trolling with those type gs of lures

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. Unfortunately even a heavy duty spinner like the 7500 is not big enough gear to handle this lure and a drag it creates. Any of the Penn senator or international reels will work just fine. Hope this helps. Thanks again for your support of the channel I truly and sincerely appreciate it. Tight lines & take care ;)

    Hi, Teacher l miss you. Teacher, What is the use of Nomad extra Port at the bottom? For extra Hook thank you, Teacher!!!

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That extra loop is the wire that runs through the lure to attach the hooks... do not use it... you will mess up the balance of the lure

    Small crimps ull have more croch breaks ,because the bigger loop it will stretch an the more loop the more stretch ,vice versa smaller loops less stretch ,,I catch gbft Atlantic gaint bluefin tuna ,so u can take this as truth ,

    I prefer to burn my mono end and use chafe for less crotch breaks. The nomads are fussy though..you do need a real small loop like you did. I like the halcos and mag bays better for high speed. You go higher than 9 knots or so and you need to use titanium wire for a super tiny connection point or the nomads don’t swim right.

      Thanks a million for watching and sharing. I do use chafe tubing on crimps that I send through a lure, like Ilanders, turbo slammers and jet heads... that metal on metal friction produces heat that compromises the mono and causes crotch breaks. crimps out in the open I haven't really ran into crotch break issues. But the connection needs to be maintained and the crimp needs to be done right, or yes, it will break. Thanks for the info on the other deep divers, my collection isn't huge, but it gets the job done, so I'll have to look into them. Thanks again, I appreciate the support for the channel. Tight lines & take care ;)

    How can crimp hold 140kg tuna ?

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have caught a tuna that big. But I've caught sharks that are. Crimps work. You just have to trust the technology, and practice fastening them properly.

      Sorry , I am confused because the dorado colored lure in this video with the treble hooks does not look like a Nomad DTX220.

      Thanks a million for watching. You don't really have to change the settings. You can just add 10% to MPH reading and you are about there. Hope this helps. Thanks again for supporting the channel. Tight lines & take care ;)

    Spray WD 40 on your lure. This will get the fish excited. WD 40 is fish oil. I have caught hundreds of fishes using WD 40.
