    Looking at the galactic map for an SW5E campaign, I was like, "some of these in the northern Outer Rim sound really familiar.
    ... its because they were from the Heir to the Empire trilogy and the Specters duology.

    It’s interesting how in Zahn’s original interpretation of post-Endor Star Destroyers were a big deal and in very limited quantity. I’m unsure if that is because most were destroyed during the rebellion or if in his mind not that many were made in the first place. I doubt know if there was any ever indication either way, or any way at all really.
    But the explanation later writers came up with to contextualize why he had so few star destroyers what with the politicking, paranoia, and selfishness of the imperial warlords is very clever. Thematic even. It’s the kind of thing that makes me wish there were actual novels about these other warlords, not just guide books and magazine articles. Ah, alas. At least I can play Greater Maldrood in Thrawn’s Revenge.

      @EbonyManta 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It's hard to say. Zahn would have been justified, I think, in assuming that Imperial Star Destroyers were rare. Vader's fleet in Empire Strikes Back had 5 plus the Executor. The Battle of Endor was supposed to be a big operation for the Empire, and how many Star Destroyers did we see there?
      At the same time, some writers have proposed that the Empire had about 20,000 ISDs at the height of its power, which *sounds* like a lot - I certainly think its a bit much - but Sci-Fi writers have a habit of underestimating the scale of a sci-fi setting, especially when an entire galaxy is involved. I don't think there's a solid number on how many inhabited worlds or systems there are in the galaxy or in Imperial space, but it may be the case that 20,000 ISDs really is what's required to police-state the whole Empire.
      Of course, generally speaking the exact numbers don't matter for most stories. But Star Wars seems to be a franchise that often gives precise details like that, either because the fans want them or because so many writers are willing to deliver.

    • @RoyalFusilier
      @RoyalFusilier 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I do like the idea of capital ships being far more scarce and meaningful, but scale things are a trap. 20,000+ star destroyers makes it hard to believe the loss of individual ones could matter, but tons of people have had a go at the Grand Army of the Republic for featuring a single-digit millions number of Clone Troopers for a galactic-scale war, even a rigged one. If I was in charge of lore stuff, I'd refuse to give specifics as often as possible, especially overall numbers, scales, power outputs, etc. People do clamor for it, especially the nerds that love this genre (like me), but what people say they want and what they actually want and what they should get from your story are all different.

    The New Republic could never get a massive Win in Legends without the writers always *somehow* managing to turn it around on them.

    Neat seeing some comic book adaptation pages here, especially 9:05.
    I really wonder how Maarek Stele, Thrawn's finest ace pilot commander, was doing during all this. Maybe the same goes for his New Republic counterpart Keyan Farlander, before he joined the New Jedi Order sometime later.
    Also, I wonder if Ace Azzameen had ties with what will eventually be the Smugglers' Alliance.

    You think Feylya had a vendetta against Ackbar? I never saw it that way, it never seemed about Ackbar to me, it was about Feylya wanting more power for himself and Ackbar just happened to be in the way - but anyone else who was successful could easily have gotten his ire, if they didn't work for him. I felt like he'd have thrown about anyone under the bus if he thought it would work.

    • @CoreysDatapad
      @CoreysDatapad  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      That was part of *why* he had the vendetta against Ackbar, but the end result is him having a vendetta against Ackbar, which remained even after Ackbar wasn't an immediate obstacle.

    • @heavyarms55
      @heavyarms55 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @CoreysDatapad Did he still care after Ackbar retired? I guess there were a couple points when he does mention Feylya didn't want him coming out of retirement so I suppose that makes sense. From that POV, that's totally a vendetta. That's personal at that point.

    If Thrawn had, had the active and whole hearted support of the empire political and military establishments instead of their grudging support. During his campaigns, then those resources combined with the actual Resources at his disposal, would certainly seen him conquered the new republic instead of just falling short.

      Such is Multiversal Theory. One man can be capable of something where another iteration can't; an example would be the DC Animated Universe Batman not having very good relations with the Bat-Family as many years pass compared to The Batman 2004's and The Brave and the Bold's.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Vader "give" the Noghri to Thrawn well before the Battle of Endor? That's what I always gathered from how it was presented in the Thrawn Trilogy, but that might have been clarified later on down the line by something I haven't read.
