TF904 to 46rh Transmission Upgrade | Part 2 | Getting the Overdrive to Work

I scored at the pic-a-part! There was a 1991 Dodge Ramcharger with a 46rh transmission that needed to be plucked...For those that don't know, a 46rh is a 727 with overdrive...this one happens to be a 2-wire, so that means it has overdrive, but not lock-up...In this video I'll explain the parts needed to make the overdrive work

It good that you put this video out on it .because I was going to use the oil pressure switch and run the disconnect wire to my brake pedal switch that way I just tap the brake and it disconnects the overdrive and then when I get back up to speed it kicks overdrive back on and I still might do it to see how it works first before I buy that kit for 95 dollars

That might work, but I like the idea of having the O/D work as close to "factory" as possible, and not have to do anything special to get it to engage or disengage....my O/D kicks in right around 50, and will turn off when I press the Go pedal to pass or climb a hill....no extra steps or thought needed

@@MoonBuiltGarage I was thinking of putting the oil pressure switch on it but was going to do the brake switch until I saw your video because I didn't know someone had a kit like that and I was going to try the brake light switch just to see if it would work or not like the original way of working

I like the way you went with your upgrade. I'm considering an overdrive swap in my 88 Chrysler Fifth Avenue. I've seen the Gear Vendors units, but swapping my A999 for a 46RH, pricewise, is looking very comparable. The 46RH swap is seeming to me, the better route as this way, all the wires and switches are kept underneath the vehicle and inside the engine compartment, with nothing to add to the interior of the car itself, unlike the control box for the Gear Vendors unit. How happy are you with your swap and the performance of the PATC kit?

Getting the PATC kit to work right was a lot of trial and error....just due to the vacuum actuated switch. My cruising vacuum level is a bit low, so trying to get the vacuum switch set properly was a chore...I ended up using a vacuum pump to set the switch...I have a video on it here: th-cam.com/video/CyW8-odNpfk/w-d-xo.html

Do you have a link for the termination block you have for 12V ignition?

I don't...but they are any number of Chevy/GM trucks for the early 2000s...I grab some from the Pic-A-Part just about every time I am there
