  • I installed a 5.2 magnum and a 46RH/A518 trans in my 1955 plymouth plaza wagon. We bought a wrecked 1995 dodge ram for $150 and moved the drivetrain over. If you are interested in this swap i have the whole swap on my channel in detail. On this video we are making the overdrive and lockup torque converter work with a few pressure switches and a vaccuum switch from PATC. transmissioncenter.net/shop/p...

    That car is just beautiful, so many curves and that color is perfect. And it’s just my opinion but in a way as nice as it is it’s kind of a blank slate, you could only make it prettier is what I’m trying to say!👍

    That PATC kit is the same kit I used on my 75 D100 that I swapped to a 46RH...I just wish mine had lock-up. Once I got the vacuum switch dialed in that kit works perfectly

    • @somewhatfast
      @somewhatfast  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh man it took a lot of fiddling to get the vac switch working properly. Mine kept going in and our of overdrive. Another thing is I have 3.73 gears and smaller tires than the truck it came out of so my overdrive kicks on at around 40 mph which is way too early! I need to buy an adjustable switch.

    • @MoonBuiltGarage
      @MoonBuiltGarage 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@somewhatfast Yeah, it took some adjusting of the vacuum switch to get mine to stop going in and out of O/D...I used a hand vacuum pump to set my switch to about 5 psi or so, and that seems to be where my switch likes to be at.

    I have the same setup. I ended up adding a switch to kill power to the OD/LTC when driving around town. I could not get a good balance and it would kick in and out of OD rapidly at certain speeds.

      You have to adjust the vacuum switch very low. Around 6 psi and even then it's a little iffy

    That car is becoming so sexy I love it. I can’t wait to see more about the $350 wagon as well. It would be cool to build a tube chassis with a modern 57 hemi in it and swap the body onto it.

    • @somewhatfast
      @somewhatfast  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I looked into the 5.7 hemi I found some chrysler 300cs with hemis and some clapped out dodge chargers with hemis. Tube chassis would be too expensive and time consuming, maybe one day. I was looking at dodge dakotas to use for the frame since they have disk brakes and came with 5.9 360 magnums.

    • @geoffreyb3337
      @geoffreyb3337 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@somewhatfast that is an excellent idea not only especially if you could find a late model Dakota that had a 4.7 in it

    • @somewhatfast
      @somewhatfast  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @geoffreyb3337 I have a 2003 ram with the 4.7 in it that motor is TOUGH. 220,000 Miles. Also a hemi 2003 truck 207,000 miles!! If i can find a 1990 or older dakota it would be a perfect frame because they are narrower and the lugpattern is 5x4.5 so you can use stock plymouth wheels, and hubcaps! And then I can go from there and make whatever engine I want fit. Idk yet have to sit on it that 1974 plymouth satellite needs to get back on the road first

    Don't care for lowered vehicles either! maybe drop 1 inch via a change in tires, etc, especially on any trucks. That takes away the main purpose of any truck!

    • @somewhatfast

      2 inches will give it a little better handling and smoother cruise on the highway!

    Works out pretty cool that the overdrive & lockup can be controlled that easily.
    The 'other guys' needs aftermarket controllers - believe me that $100 kit is a bargain compared to the controllers!

    Is the adjustable vacuum switch in all their kits? I was looking at their ads and I thought they had adjustable pressure switches as an option, rather than an adjustable vacuum switch? After some initial confusion it appears that the 96 transmission I have is indeed a 46rh so I should be able to do the same thing. I hope..

    So this is probably a silly question but do these transmissions shift and run like a 727 with no computer? The electronics are just for overdrive and lockup?

    • @somewhatfast
      @somewhatfast  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes! Lockup and over drive are literally just a switch on the transmission. You could install a toggle on the dash for od and lock if wanted.
