I just ordered Easy Kefir for my brother who has High cholesterol, I worry about him taking poison into his body, I hope that kefir helps him and he can get off Statins drags. I know what kefir, kombucha, and cultured food have done for me. My blood pressure is on average 116/70 not bad for 73 yrs. young. I just found a doctor that is a medical and a naturopathic doctor and my hopes are that he can work with me to take me off blood pressure medicine, I will let you know how that works out.

Donna, I just received your books Cultured Food For Life & Cultured Food in a Jar. I also received my kefir grains 3 days ago and was told not to drink it for the first 5 - 7 days. It started looking right right away but I'm afraid to drink it yet. Why would they advise me to wait? Can you do a detailed video on what kefir should look like and how to tell if its ok?

Wouldn't stress too much, I started on it right away.
Just try a bit, assuming milk kefir it's a sour yoghurty taste but not super thick like yoghurt.
This is a reasonable pic of how it looks : thehalalfoodblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/Kefir-SG-05.jpg
Thickish liquid, and on the container you'll see residue as the kefir adheres around the container, like the front bottle in the pic.

Hi! You can certainly drink your kefir right away. I have no clue why anyone would tell you not to. But my kefir grains are live and active and you can start enjoying kefir as soon as it's ready. I have a whole video on this channel on how to make kefir and I also have this article that may help you from being scared: www.culturedfoodlife.com/dont-be-afraid-of-your-ferments-they-know-how-to-do-this/

The kefir is safer than eating canned foods because of the process of fermentation. You can go for it!

Donna Schwenk ...Thanks for your reply. I did try it and it seemed fine. I now have a 2nd ferment in my fridge with the lemon rind that you say is delicious and I can hardly wait to try it!

So, one can lower cholesterol with probiotics, but dairy kefir is not essential ? I don’t want IGF in my body , fueling cancer cells! Also, why did my bad cholesterol go dangerously high after drinking lots of raw kefir?

I know this is an older post, but I'm curious about your comment on IGF. Did you know your body makes IGF? It's only when you have to much or too little that will produce problems. There is even studies to find out if IGF can help diabetes. Do some more research on this topic.
