- It's time to put all my Sonic creations to the ultimate test! You've all been wanting to know if Sonic 2 Recreation is up to the challenge, but are Sonic Bash and the others up to scratch? From my earliest work in 2002, all the way up to my latest and greatest, we examine if these really do work on a real Sega Mega Drive / Genesis.

REPLAYS:
To view these replays, make sure you're in Normal Sonic mode first. On the Level select, using a RAM editor (like Regen 0.97D has), insert the hexadecimal data from these files into offset F100 ($FFFFF100). Once completed, in level select, highlight Emerald Hill 1 (or Death Egg, whichever RAM data you've inserted), hold A + B + C and press start. Enjoy the replay! Note, these will not record the new times. Also note, if you go into options or the times menu, the RAM will be cleared and you'll have to reinsert the replay data if you want to view them).

If you want to save your own replays, finish any level/act with a time, then while still on level select, using a RAM editor, dump all data between F100 and F5FF ($FFFFF100 - $FFFFF5FF). Note, if you go into options or the times menu, the RAM will be cleared and you'll be unable to save your replays until you set another new time.

I like how well you've progressed through your Sonic rom hacking journey. The backstory behind Sonic 2 Time Attack from a technical point of view was interesting to reach the final conclusion. Yes, we all learn from our mistakes after re-testing and oversights.
Overall, fantastic video where a lot of hard work has been put into all this. Still looking forward to seeing a live stream of you and Millie do Sonic multiplayer hacks.

Man Sonic 2 Recreation looks amazing! Seeing how good it is almost makes me want to try and make a Rom Hack myself but I doubt I ever good. I have no idea how to code in Hex or anything like that.

Did Redhotsonic ever finish part 2? I heard it was in the works a while back but damn ,this is so good it feels like a official Sega game, and that's the dream. Ive never been able to figure out to properly disassemble and create my own Sonic games, and there's no Mario Maker equivalent in our future likely so, I'm at the mercy of the amazing modders like RHS :) :)
I think you should try the sonic adventure 1 and 2 prototypes and trial versions on real hardware. I would love to see more Saturn and Dreamcast stuff in this awesome series.

Several times I have thought "I bet I could make a finished version of Sonic 2 Recreation in a level editior with some tinkering."
But I never thought if I should.
I'm not saying its a bad game, would love to finish it, but it takes a lot of dedication to make a full game. Even in a level editor, without any coding, except for the cutscenes in a seperate program, it still would take a while.

These are all Mega Drive (Genesis) games but I can confirm they will work and get the exact same results within this video if you play them through a 32x :)

I just wanna point out, all the faults with RHS v0.90 here also persist on Fusion 3.64, like the Hidden Palace graphical corruptions, Medievel lacking collision, etc.
I still remember all this from when I experienced playing said hack (alongside Sonic 2 Recreation) on said emulator like, 7 years ago. I also enjoyed Sonic Bash, even before it's v2 upgrade.
I believe this was the first time I saw Sonic 2 Time Attack in action, and might I say, I don't think I ever saw anyone put that much effort into a "cheat trap" system, and specifically for emulators in mind, no less.
Another awesome red hot, tongue licking video from the master of owning every Mega Drive, Genesis and EverDrive model you can think of! And I disagree with a few things that were said in this video, for one, you're not an idiot far from it, you're a very skilled editor at learning the code who has matured over the years and has also become a loving husband and father in the time since these hacks were made. To become the awesome video creator you are today it took a some what retirement route from the hacking scene to achieve the status you have now. We only get better at learning the technology of what we love as time passes so most of the mishaps from your hacks can be forgiven as it was from a time when EverDrives and split modifications were very hard to come by.
I'm not trying to upset anyone but the only gripe I have is when you give the verdict of (partially), to me it either works or it doesn't, having to reset and continue from the next playable level just to pass the crashed level or corrupted title card glitch shouldn't really be a passable oversight in the slightest, i'm referring to ''Sonic 2 Time Attack'' mainly as it crashes at the end of Wing Fortress with Super Sonic cancelling out. Any glitch, error handler or crash that breaks the game and hinders you from continue on a normal play means it's f--ked! And believe me I know hundreds of Sonic hacks that do this. But at the end of the day that's just my little nit-pick, I fully respect yours and everybody else's opinions and as I said above, any mishaps these hacks have are to be forgiven as they're made from a time of inaccurate emulator cycles when EverDrives were not fully available.
As for the crown jewels, ''Sonic 2 Recreation'' you bet your arse it works on real hardware! That hack is a magnificent gem in the library of great and interesting Sonic hacks. Looking forward to more of your videos redhot Sonic.
If there was another level that also crashed that you couldn't pass, then I'd probably would have said no, but I thought in this case, that would have been too harsh. But clearly it's not 100% either; hence the partial rating exists. I was very close to even giving S2TA a partial rating. Also, thanks for the kind words! :)

I remember now - It's an unused theme from Sonic Advance 2 (Leaf Storm, I think), but it's the rendition you made for Recreation.

It bothers me so much that the Model 2 Mega Drive has a slide switch instead of the Genesis 2's latching pushbutton.
Such fond memories of ragequitting with a peck of the index finger.
Only the Japanese MD2 is a slide switch due to its locking mechanism. The European MD2 is the same as the Genesis 2 with its push-in button :)
Try Omochao edition on the US Genesis.

Because BDIWORH is less than a year old and I wasn't sure about doing mine until I did a poll a few months back but over 95% of people voted yes.
