    Great video! Doing this project today and I don't think that my master cylinder is done it's just the line broke going into it. I couldn't find new lines anywhere and I'm probably going to have to go to a junkyard to get them. This video will make the job a lot easier making sure I get everything back together the way it does! Thanks bud!

    Having done a few of these in quick succession (only buy LUK master cylinder) this is a VERY good guide.
    I did find that my bottom pipe has rusted and expanded into the plastic housing so it was a pain to remove, made easier by spraying with Kroil,. I also cheated and bent the bracket holding the pedal switches out of the way, and bent it back afterwards... yours is definitely the correct way though!

    How cool, I'm doing this tomorrow and Horus Works has posted a fresh video! Good to see there is still interest in MK1/LR's!
    I'm going reverse bleed it by emptying the reservoir to min and use a hand pump brake bleeder tool to pump 90-100ml of fluid through the clutch bleeder which will refill the reservoir.
    The new master cylinder was expensive in Australia, @$630 for a protex auto shop one. Since the FOMOCO original had served the car well I got one from the USA for @$200 AUD, LUK, Febi were also cheap from the UK.
    I have 3 LR's with one more in the family, two have over 250k and the others have @150k on them, and I have found that LR parts can be shipped from the USA or UK far cheaper and with better options than Australia.
    The USA has Carid, Massive Speed Systems, Summit Racing, Central Florida Motorsports. I also found fordpartsgaint that seem to have the things only made by motorcraft, but haven't used them yet.
    Beware of the difference with left hand drive parts, a new Motorcraft air-cond compressor and clutch plus new pulleys were incompatible due to pipe placement and pully diameters. The correct PS pump, air-cond and alternator must be sourced from Aus or the UK. A cheap chinese OEX 90a alternator was only $300 from repco and it was possible to replace it without undoing the RHS engine mount like some videos say, maybe because the USA one has a bigger casing?)
    The UK has pumaspeed, burtonpower, and a few others if you can dig through the poor search engine results to find the relevant small businesses.
    Ford forums have a good database of (Left hand drive) factory workshop manuals if you join up.
    With useful videos like this I can repair and maintain these excellent cars, which deliver so much enjoyment and reliability as my daily drivers.
    Thanks Horus Works, I hope to see more vids from you!

      Malcolm thanks so much for your useful insights! I appreciate your support and help with making this video post as rounded as possible. Hoping your comments will further help make this job and working on the Mk1 Focus easier. I too am finding it cheaper to source parts from overseas compared to buying in Australia, that's a great tip for anyone located here. The cheapest parts are in the US and UK - you're right! Stay tuned for more videos to come mate! Thank you.

      @@Horus_Works I couldn't reverse bleed it myself, so I'll try your method tomorrow, it looked simpler anyway. The St170 master cylinder has two bolts holding it to the pedal assembly, it was difficult but they were reachable with the pedal assy in place. The steering column was the only thing I disconnected, a very handy tip thanks to your video.
      Your Zetec looks neat, even the foam rings in the ac ducts are intact and haven't disintegrated! I saw it had stability control, that's a very rare option.
      The US LHD master cylinder I fitted had a different part number (1M5Z-7A543-AAA) than what I took out but It looked identical, the original started with 2M5Z and had a Right hand drive sticker on it.
      Supercheap have a bosch part for @$260 still a lot more than the UK but a good option If it's needed quickly.

    • @Horus_Works
      @Horus_Works  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the update Malcom. Sorry to hear about the bleeding problems. To offer some help, try bleeding the brake lines too - it's all one system. Mine was fairly straight forward as I didn't lose a lot of fluid, but I know others have struggled. Once the system is bled the clutch pedal will feel very light on the first depress, but give it a few more pumps at is should firm right up.
      Yep I ordered my master cylinder from the states too, and it went straight in. I like that the lever mechanism on the new aftermarket unit was made from metal too, and not plastic like on the motorcraft unit!

    • @malcolmgray.5913
      @malcolmgray.5913 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Horus_Works Hi HW All went well. since I had to solo it I opened the bleeder then pumped up the clutch and held the pedal down with stick wrapped in a towel that was jammed against the seat, then closed off the bleeder which was still pushing out clear fluid.
      I'll do the brakes and clutch again in a few weeks time since the fluid was pretty funky and old.
      The car feels angry now since it has been let off the leash after being grounded. The ST170 engine has a valve timing solenoid that was clogged and not sealed against the valve cover so fixing that gave me back the kick that comes in from 5500rpm and stopped a bad oil leak, I put abut 3-500k on this car every week so it is good to get some maintenance and repairs done.

    Hi! After watching your video, I noticed that you have the backlight of your legs installed from the factory, watch the installed cartridge under the lamp in the wire harness under the tape on the video at 12:52 p.m. I also had it installed and hidden, there is also a regular place for this lamp in the console above my legs, you just need to turn this socket in it and insert the lamp will all work.

    One major thing to be aware of , is that when you bleed the clutch the brake reservoir must be at the max mark. As the brake reservoir has 2 separate chambers and the clutch chamber is only fillable at or near the max mark or over. If you try bleeding the cluch at or near the min on the reservoir tank mark it will not work and you will run the clutch dry with air ( ask me how I know ) as the chamber inside the brake master cylinder will not not start to fill clutch portion of the reservoir untill its near the MAX mark or over. Its a saftey feature Ford added to allow the brakes or clutch to sill operate if you lost fluid in one of the componets. ie if your lost fluid in the brakes and they fail , the clutch still works , or if the clutch lost fluid and fails the brakes still work.

    • @Horus_Works
      @Horus_Works  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rafik, thanks for your comment. I'm not sure about the position of the retracting spring, but in my car they are not adjustable? I think as long as the spring is in good condition, you shouldn't need to adjust it. Mine was completely fine after I installed the new master cylinder, no adjustment to the spring was needed. Sorry I can't be of any more help then that, but let me know how you went with the install. A quick tip - try to limit how much brake fluid you lose, the more that stays in the lines, the easier it will be to bleed the system.
