  • Join us and fellow guests at the naming ceremony at Caerphilly Station of class 231001 "Sultan". Sultan the Pit Pony is a modern sculpture here in Caerphilly. The young man who suggested the name is included in this video as well as senior executives from TfW and the trains Swiss manufacturer.
Despite heavy rain a good gathering enjoyed the mornings event.

Nicely done Morgan....memorable words indeed and very well said Champ. In these days of over blown celebraties and sport stars it's good to see a "true " Welsh legend, and thousands like Sultan who spent much of their lives underground being remembered in this way. Keep up the good work MD.

Always nice to see a naming ceremony. Trains might be lifeless compared to yesteryear but it's still good to have some pride in them.

A bit different to the 143s Mike.

It's all very nice having trains with names but all the traveling public want is a decent reliable train service. I think their focus should be in that direction rather than this vanity nonsense.

Have you travelled on these new units yourself ? They're Swiss build/design and travelling from Penarth to Rhymney was a delight. The naming was a good PR exercise
