Wonderful video, G! I have also encountered that "let's hide the toilet paper in plain sight" placement, although it was a Scotrail 170 for me. It's great that you and Sam bumped into each other too amidst all the disruption!

Melons Up! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 that should be a T-Shirt! I am honestly jealous trains that you went via Bristol Parkway on a Class 170 Turbostar! But seriously all the puns, jokes and banter to one side it does look like you had one hell of a trip to get to Cardiff and there the kind of trips I like to enjoy in person but can be stressful, Also heard about those Zip hotel but never been in one, I haven been into one of those Hub Hotels that Premier Inn done. just a small rectangle room. Great Video G and nice to see Sam Vlogs Trains and More as well.

I had a nice upgrade sort of thing last year. I was on a HST from Weston to Bristol. It was 20 minutes late so it was sent non-stop to Bristol, just like the good old days when they ran to London Paddington! Also only one section per coach is usually first class on a 170, the bit just behind the cab. Also one thing to look out for, ex-LNER mk4s may be operating a few of the TfW services to Manchester in the future
With all the diversions it was an extra long way round to get to Cardiff. Awesome video. 🙂

Great vlog down to Cardiff G amongst all the disruption & chaos north of Crewe. Reverse the train at Warrington then again at Gloucester on your 2nd train from Tamworth, that sounds more interesting than my diversion via Manchester on 390125 lol. Which I’m glad the 350 from Crewe was delayed slightly as otherwise I wouldn’t of got that train from Crewe. Also it was great to bump into on the train. Really enjoyed watching! I’m looking forward to the vlog from Cardiff especially in that funky looking hotel.

I am glad that you enjoyed your ride on a Cross Country 170 and you actually went through the Seven Tunnel too.
Tamworth - the two tiered station. You've to be quick when changing there when your Nottingham train is late!
CrossCountry Trains do run amazing long journeys from Southwest England to Scotland and from Wales to The Midlands and East of England via changing stations. Maybe CrossCountry should run extra services in England.

With Crosscountry trains' 170s, the 1st class section is near towards the Coach A's driving cab. Roughly 9 seats. I believe majority of the 170s have 1st class sections at one end (or some cases like Scotrail's units, both ends) apart from the WMR units which has none.
With 170s the vestbule doors will open if you hover your hand over the sensor (little black square) towards the top of the door.

Well G certainly no snoozing on that fabulous journey so much to see on your diversions off the normal route! And then to get to yours and my favourite place cardiff👍🙂 I've done many a days trainspotting on those platforms over the years! It's a fantastic area we used to stay just along the coast at Southerndown near to Bridgend, looking forward to the next part with you on the bike probably going round the Cardiff bay area? 🤔😉🚲👍

When you were walking to the hotel I was wondering if it was going to be the Zip you were heading for. I was supposed to be staying at that same hotel last December for a Stereophonics gig that unfortunately got cancelled. I’m looking forward to seeing more of what I missed out on in the next video.

Gloucester is the station of reversing trains. My local station and happens regularly.

Top video fairplay. Nice bike ride down Cardiff bay but also another bike ride is along the Taff's trail all the way up if you go to a place called tongwynlais your not far from the new depot where they are building for the new trams in Taff's well.
I’m pretty sure GLT that First Class in a 170 is just a few seats behind the driving cabs. Certainly not a whole carriage. I’m from Cardiff so it will be great to see the city on the next video.

If leave from say Machynlleth in Mid Wales to go to the nation Capital , Cardiff , the only way of reaching Cardiff is by going via Shrewsbury in Midlands and craven arms etc ..then after 2 hours you end up in Llandrindod Wells .good ol Rail service

Fantastic Vlog as always G my gosh you did experience some diversions not just on your first train but on the 3rd train too I must admit Cardiff Railway Station looked absolutely stunning all lite up at night and you cannot beat peanut butter sandwich trust me there a favourite of mine too and that premier inn looked awesome too and it looked like you had a fantastic adventure by bike while you was there taking in all that stunning scenery until your next Vlog G care on being awesome keep up the good work take care and stay safe

Have got a variety of train journeys coming up over the next couple of months using TPE, East Midlands Trains, Avanti and LNER which I'm looking forward to using plus the London Underground
Nice video. I've not ridden XC south/west of Birmingham (although have done from there to Reading before), but I'm used to the 170s because they run Birmingham to Leicester and Stansted Airport, services I often caught while at Uni.
That was brilliant G, thanks. You did get diverted a lot but it made a great journey. I like watching your vlogs because they remind me of my early 20s in the early 90s. I spent a lot of time travelling all over on trains. Spent many a happy hour on a Sprinter. Sam seems like a nice guy. Glad you got to meet him. The Zip hotel looked great, looking forward to the next film. Your enthusiasm is just great to see.

Brilliant video G, the disruption that day was unfortionately cause by some unhappy events and I am of course very sorry to hear about them. But on the bright side it's so good you got to meet Sam. Tamworth station is one I have indeed been too and I love it. And the CrossCountry turbostars are a unit I'm so used to as I have to use them to get from Leicester to Birmigham New Street (which does get rather busy alot). Worcestershire parkway is a nice station, I went there at the end of last August. I wonder who that lovely conductor on CrossCountry you met is and I wonder if they've been on any trains I've been on. Looking forward to the next part of this video. :) Also since when did you use a bike helmet to go swimming? lol

Unfortunately I know what the disruption was caused by. I think I were at North Western when you were. If I'd have known I'd have come and said hi. 170's are ace. The FC section on AXC's 170's only takes up the section between the can and first set of doors
170 on Crosscountry only have a small area in the front on coach A for Ist Class. 9 seats per unit.

Nothing wrong with Birmingham, we have some awesome Train Stations in the City (& West Mids County as a whole).
I used to like going to Birmingham but stopped going when the Ian Allen Bookshop closed down. Now the John Lewis there has closed down as well!

Used to take ScotRail 170s a lot before you know what. However, I’ve never seen one with a whole carriage that was 1st Class. So, that’s interesting.

xc 1st class seats coach A behind drivers compartment through the glass doors . some of the traincrew do not sign via bristol parkway so you were in luck TfW services just get caped between cardiff & gloucester the line is prone to bank slips along the severn at purton. closed this year in summer school hols to stablise the bank from slipping

Travel to Cardiff regularly often delays cancellation of trains in n the south Wales area the valley services are often hammered with problems my local line to ebbw vale is a favourite for disruption our local train service in South Wales is a shambles and the buses not much better 😥🏴
